    Hello everyone,

I have a question about Veeam Backup and VmWare:

Fact the license "vStorage API" (contained in the "essential package") is necessary to use Veeam Backup & Replication?

If 'Yes', I don't know why...?

We have in the ESX servers of my company 2 with 2 VM on each of them, with version 4.1.

We will buy VeeamBackup but I wonder if we should also buy essential Kit...?

Thanks to all the people who will give me some information about this,

And sorry for the possible mistakes (I am french)

  • Veeam Backup and the Mode of free features

    People,

I started a support with Veeam call after the installation of their new backup and replication 4.1.1 after getting an error "free ESXi is not supported" after some troubleshooting tech me determine what level of license Info Service is listed, ESXFull, or ESXBasic. After determining that it is ESBasic they advise that we are 'free' feature mode and call the VMWare licenses.

I'm missing somethgin here, I thougth all ESXi were free, a matter that deals with this and how do I get this to ESXFull?

    Thank you

Free ESXi is free. It can be licensed for use with the rest of the vSphere product suite. In free mode, there are several things that are not available, including the storage API. Veeam backup uses the storage API, which means that you must have a licensed version of ESXi. The simplest version of a bundle under license is http://www.vmware.com/vmwarestore/buyvsphere-small-business.html

  • Refreshing Temporary\Backup license

    Hello

My University has a campus license - that works when I log onto their network.  When I work somewhere else without a network connection, the screen rises initially saying: I have a temporary license for 30 days (or less)- and after I click on through this works very well.  Unfortunately, it is not updated back to 30 days when I me re - connects to the network license - which is a problem because I have work to do in the next week where I'll be without network connection and I have only a few days on my backup license.  How to reset to 30 days?

  • ReSTOR vCenter Veeam Backup 5

Veeam backup 6.0 allows us to save all our virtual machines.

    We use VMware ESXi 5.0

Our vCenter 5.0, I installed on a virtual machine.

The vCenter server is backed up every night of Veeam Backup.

    My question is:

If our vCenter server crash, is it then possible to restore I have the backup that was night done previus?

We whant to do a restore complete the vcenter our Backup Server.

I don't know how our ESXi servers will react when see her sudden an older vCenter, we restored backup.

    Hello

    We use Veeam B & R v6 for the last 3 years.

Lets say you have a failure of your vCenter server and there is no quick way, you can solve the problem.

    1. turn off the vCenter server crashed.

    2. go to the B & R Veeam

    3. click on restore, then select a restore point for that perticular Server

    4. replace one of the ESX hosts.

Now in the case where this happens Veeam can see vCenter and if he can't have not all hosts to restore. Then you just 'Add Host' and add the ESXi box, that you want to restore.

Now you can move on to step 3.

Wait for restore to finish, and you're done.

Some settings that you can select are "lit VM after restoration" "connect Newtorking.

  • VMware VDR or VEEAM backup choice for backups and restorations of VM

    Hello

Can someone suggest the best solutions to choose from-VDR or Veeam Backup.

I know there are limitations with VDR as appropriate in the middle of small infrastructure...

My infrastructure is 1 VC, 4 guests. 50-60 VM in a cluster. and I usually tape backups.

    Thanks in advance.

You may ask why I need that? for example, if I have 3 disks for a virtual machine - C: D: E:, c: what is 20 GB contains windows OS and other two are huge disks and data (files I need) are saved by my TSM software. I would then backup that only the OS disk and the remaining disc are copied by TSM. I don't want to copy complete D: E:...

It depends on your backup strategy.

In my humble OPINION, I prefer to have a backup of the complete VM image... just to have a real "disaster recovery system. Of course only the system drive may suffice, but you need to document what other drives were present.

And don't forget that VDRS and Veeam (and another backup product) can operate in "extra" mode, so that new data is copied, not whole disk (except the first, of course).

  • Veeam backup or vmware consolidated backup?

    What is the best?

    Thank you

    RJ

We will all live a virtual life...

    Hello

Certainly VCB is not as rich in features as Veeam but you can compare the two, they take data outside the ESX host and place it on a backup server. You should necessarily not a script to do this with VCB, but it will certainly help! For environments really small hand vcbMounter orders will pass data of the ESX host to your backup host. Then you will need a (even when using Veeam) mechanism to move the backup to a kind of Ribbon, blu - ray or a another backup device.

Granted in some cases Veeam will also make use of the VCB to make its backups and Veeam combined with VCB is a pretty good combination.

  • How warns 'space' error, make a backup with veeam?

    Hello everyone.

I have a 300 GB virtual machine in a shop 305 GB data, so there are only 5 GB free. I use as backup Veeam software. Its working directory is another store of data with 300 + GB free.

I thought that have 5 GB of free space in the data of the VM store was enough for configuration files and such things, but maybe I was mistaken. The problem happened when I found the following error last Monday:

    Welcome to the community,

If you can confirm that the snapshot is created in the location workingdir when you take a snapshot manually, you must open a call with Veeam. Otherwise, check the settings (http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1002929) and make sure that the virtual machine is charged to the inventory after changing the vmx file.

  • Is the license needed to hit the backups on tapes?

    Hi all

Our Organization is planning to have Oracle implemented in our business processes, and we plan to have RMAN to hit backups.

Our application server, Oracle database and applications are allowed. As you know there are 2 ways to hit the tape via the Oracle secure backup backup and media management layer, I wanted to know because we have the "HP DL380 G6" server can we use the media management layer to hit backups on tapes and do we need licenses for it.

I think that we need secure backup licensing Oracle, but my question is what is the case in the media management layer.

    best regards,

    Most welcome :)

Will the procedure mentioned below if management limited in case out for a third-party media management layer (most likely they used), but as an alternative will be the following:

1 perform RMAN backups on record (as backupset).
    2. take these backups copied to RMAN through OS command.
    3. copy backups on disk to a tape if the tape backups are necessary if the backups on disk are not available.
    4. run the RMAN catalog command to detect the backup
5 restore and recover the database

    Yes it will work...

  • two different backup based CBT products can save the same vm without affecting the other?

POS and Veeam use CBT for backups after the full initial.

What will happen if they save both the same virtual machine?

I checked on this several years ago and the information available at the time seem to indicate that it works very well (the details seem to have fled my organic storage)

right now I use veeam backup replication and vsphere production Dr. (partly because I had hoped to go back to SRM).

Several years ago I used WTP (when it was new) and it worked perfectly to recover from a failed san (luckily I had just updated to the first version of the direct recovery so it was easy and very fast).

stop using POS due to problems of maintenance cycle in progress where he had run more and more long and never ended.  redeployed several times and even had not involved with support no resolution therefore had to move away from the product.

now, I would like to back (especially since it is included with the enterprise license), but needed if ensure that it does not affect backups of production using the CBT.  I can do some testing of course, but thought ask and see if anyone has any information to share.

    Thank you

From a technical point of view it should not be problems, unless the application of different run their backups at the same time.

CBT marks the changed blocks using a ChangeID which is incremented whenever someone creates a snapshot. Applications determine the blocks changed since the most recent backup by requesting a list of blocks with a ChangeID higher than that of their last backup/replication.

  • Virtual appliance for Veeam

If I use the free version of Veeam backup mV, I don't want to use a Windows license to install Veeam.  Is there such a thing as Veeam backup virtual appliance that runs the veeam backup software without requiring a Windows operating system?  If this is not the case, this is intended to be released at a later date?

At the moment only Windows Version exists.

Backup free edition is the same basis as the paid versions of code. So, it benefits from the software main cycles of quick and immediate release supports new VMware and Hyper-V Versions.

Yes, the device is very easy to deploy, but to me a problem of security in an organization. You are at the mercy of sellers (security) update deployment.

I think that the idea of the Windows Version is so easy to use (everyone knows Windows) and can be integrated in your existing patch, antivirus and monitoring environment.

If Veeam will add the unit or support for Linux I think it will double/tribble close R & D and quality control effort and will slow down the publication cycle.

I m not Veeam management product, but I think that you won't see backup free edition in the form of appliance in the next time.

On MS Outlook license, you can use Backup free Edition also on a workstation OS (XP-8: 1) on a PC/computer/laptop virtual. But for VMware vSphere 5.5 support you need a 64 bit OS.

    Best reagards... Andy

Edit1: You can add a feature on http://forums.veeam.com request. Veeam product management is very active in the Forums of Veeam and the Forum will have an influence on the priority list.

  • Creation of VM in local ESXi datastore for the backup of the data SAN with VMXNet 3 VM store

    Hi all

I would like to know how you have configured your server to backup as a virtual machine?

My idea is to use the local data VMFS3 store on my 3 x ESXi servers,

by installing the application of part 3 (such as Veeam Backup 5 or Backup Exec 2010) in Windows Server 2008 R2 VM

equipped with size of very big hard drive (OS 8 GB + 1 TB VMDK data partition) on each of the local data store to save the computer virtual within the SAN.

    What I have:

VMware vSphere essential 4 - ESXi 4.0 (not hot add)

    Dell Power Edge 2950 with 2.5 to multiple VMFS3 extended on top - RAID 5 (6 x 500 GB SATAII 7200 RPM)

Reference Dell MD3000i iSCSI SAN on Gigabit Ethernet

The configuration of the Windows Server 2008 R2 VM:

    2 x CPU @ 2.33 GHz

    4 GB OF RAM

VMXNet3 NIC-> for better connectivity to the backup between the local data store ESXi and iSCSI-SAN data store.

Here's the reason why I'm doing this is that:

    1. I don't have the additional NETWORK card to connect my physical server in iSCSI SAN THAT switch, so I can't use - SAN backup mode.

    2. I only use the available lowest VMware license that can't stand the Hot-add the device function.

Would it be an optimal configuration?

Any kind of help and suggestion to implement backup VM VM would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Kind regards

    AWT

From what I see of you think to do, you will get no advantage of using the VMXNET3 NIC, compared using an e1000 NIC... All your traffic will be on the connections of 1 GB, because you're leaving SAN local disk... If you had the VM on the SAN, or the same storage, the VMXNET3 NIC were going at speeds of internal circulation (could get you better than 1 GB, but I advise to test before committing)...

In addition, you will not be able to use a volume of OS 8 GB in Server 2008 R2... Bare minium is 32 GB (use plus 40 GB, which is that vSphere will use when you tell him to 2008 R2 for the operating system of the virtual machine)...
