CV of power virtual machine after a failure to esxi 4.1
I have a server ESXi 4.1 which is loss of power in the middle of the night. When the server takes over, the virtual machines on the server do not resume. Is it possible to have virtual machines to resume after a power failure? I think remember me this as an option on an earlier version.

Hi all
I installed openSUSE Tumbleweed last updated with the 4.3.0 core - 1.
uname - a
Home Linux 4.3.0 - 1-default #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Nov 2 15:35:09 UTC 2015 (7b374a4) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Note, I've been on 4.2.4 - before kernel 1.2
After updating, I rebooted and I manually compiled the vmnet and vmmon modules.
Unfortunately, the two modules do not have to compile.
In previous versions of the kernel only vmnet module compiled with errors.
I corrected manually the file vmnetInt.h in the module vmnet as suggested here on the forum and it compiles and loads OK
I am at a loss on how to manually manage the change in kernel version of 4.3.0 - 1 in vmmon files so that I can get to compile correctly
The compile error is shown below. Any help, suggestions or fixes would be greatly appreciated

Hi James,
What version of Workstation do you use? Even if Workstation is not yet officially supported any host OSes with 4.3.0 core I think that this issue should be fixed in the Workstation 12.0.1, so if you're on 12.0.0 Workstation and have not yet upgraded, give that a try.
See you soon,.

I was trying to understand what the problem may be, but I can't find so put my VM in your hands.
It worked perfectly until I updated my x 64 Ubuntu 8.04 to:

State of the virtual machine after the host failure
Hello
If a virtual machine is running on a host and that host suddenly powers off dirty, like a power failure or a remote access card power the server due to a fault, overtemp etc., what happens to the virtual machine?
My guess is the virtual machine is actually difficult, dirty off too and if HA is configured, etc it is going to do a full power on sequence. Or is it restart on a new server and be automatically in the same power state with the same States of memory and cpu until the host has dropped dead? So if I got a connection of the DRC in a vm of windows server and the host dies suddenly and it restarts, reconnect to the session even State immediately before the breaking of the host?
Thank you
When ESX\ESXi fails due to power failure:
No configured HA:
1. all virtual machines is also faces off against the sudden stop. SMV will lose data runtime and all communications (including the RDP connection) will be interrupted.
Configured HA:
1 VMs will be powered - on on a different host. However, its the same as a reset of the virtual machine, we will lose any unsaved data.
VMware FT:
We ensure 100% uptime for a virtual machine using VMware Fault Tolerance. In case of failure of the host, next time school resumes VM in FT. More details on IP are available at the following link.

Disable the network interface on a virtual machine
Hello all-
Is there a way to disable the network interface on the network adapter in the virtual machine? We have a group of applications who want to simulate a network in collaboration with MSCS failure - I don't necessarily agree with the fact that this type of test, but try to determine if this is possible from the functional point of view.
Our ESX host have networks of virtual machine set up off the coast of 4 port nic mezzanine card, and I don't want to touch the VM network vswitch as any part of this test.
Thanks for any help you can provide-
Steve
Is there a way to disable the network interface on the network adapter in the virtual machine?
Yes, in the virtual machine settings, for each NIC assigned to the virtual machine you will find a checkbox 'connected '. Unchecking it's like pulling the network cable.

I got a 5.1 cluster with some problems HA.
a few virtual machines are showing this
This virtual machine to become protected vsphere HA and HA can not try to restart after a power failure.
When I try to reconfigure HA on the host. It times out and fails.
any idea?
Instead of reconfiguring HA on the concerned host, have you tried to disable HA on the cluster and enable again? See: VMware KB: State of the virtual machine changes from protected to Unprotected

Run a virtual machine with a graphical interface on a host without GUI
Hallo
I want to install a simple Windows 7 for some tasks bit where I need Windows on my server Ubuntu 14.04. This server has no GUI (no X) and should have any.
Already, I've installed the virtual Windows machine on my workstation to 12, so I would just copy the vmdk on my linux server and run it, maybe put something in the vmx file.
But I do not know is that it's all means possible.
Is it?
Is there any player or any application for ubuntu VMware when there is no X system (on ubuntu), where I can run virtual machines with GUI inside?
Maybe another virtualization tool, vmware not?
I think that this exact question already somewhere, but I haven't found much question where comments lacking a GUI, but not the host.
I need a guest-gui on a host without gui (where I have only the terminal).
So maybe it's not possible at all, so please tell me a 'no', so I won't expect more
Thank you to
Frank
EDIT: oh, this seems to be another question unanswered it is too difficult or too stupid?
Hi Frank,.
Now that would be stupid, having a text Installer, and then not allow the virtual machine to run. I think it should work, but you must pass the nogui option.
Vmrun help:
beginning
(Supported only on teams
Workstation.)
Starts a virtual machine (.vmx file) or team (file .vmtm).
The default graphical user interface option starts the machine in an interactive way,
What is necessary to display a user interface of VMware.
Nogui option suppresses the user interface,
including start-up, to allow dialog box not interactive
writing scripts.
[gui | nogui]
refer to the manual of vmrun: VIX API Documentation
Edit: hmm... Now, I see that you have already tried the nogui option. You might be able to install the package libxinerama, but he could hang out in a lot of dependencies.
FWIW, vSphere is pretty much what you describe a system not GUI to run GUI invited, so it shouldn't be a problem at all.
Unfortunately, I don't have a host linux without X installed handy here, so can't test here without the implementation of a server without head myself.
You can also try to run the client via the command vmware:

How the Virtual Machine port group communication?
How the Virtual Machine port group communication?
Port group is virtual aggregation of ports on vSwitch. A vSwitch can have multiple Port groups which separate the different network traffic. Port groups communicate with vSwitch, and we have physical network maps on vSwitch which establish communication with the external network. We can configure security, NIC teaming, traffic shapping nework political and at the level of the port groups. Once the port group is created, we can assign to vNIC
How to establish communication?
Public network > Switch L3 Core > ESXi physical adapter > vSwitch > groups > virtual NIC > Virtual Machine
Virtual machine connect to the physical map using vNIC coming on Port groups. This is how it works.

vMotion is a failure for virtual machines
I'm trying to migrate virtual machines to one ESXi to another in the same cluster, it fails in the first stage. Storage and networking are shared and other same cluster different host machines have been migrated successfully. One could suggest?
Are you a specific error when migrating?
It's a failure at the end of specific percentage?
Have you checked reverse migration between different host and no host work?
Check if the nucleus of vMotion port is accessible from both ESXi hosts.
If vMotion IP is not the ping requests, check if the IP configuration is correctly performed according to the standard.
If the IP configuration is done correctly, try unchecking and rechecking vMotion core port of two hosts, it should work.
Also check that vMotion does not work on dVS and Standard with different IP configuration.

VCo workflow to clone a virtual machine of centos. Network interface problem
Hello
I use vco workflows to clone a virtual machine of vcenter. The virtual machine is running centos 6.0. When cloning is complete. I see the network eth0 and eth1 interfaces set correctly the static gateway ip and address information I provided. I deleted the 70 - persistent - net .rules on the basic vm form which I clone. So, I get the correct interface names. But when vm powers on and I run "ifconfig eth0" I don't see the IP address of this interface has all the details. same for the other interface also.
But if I do a system restart network without changes to networking and then do an ifconfig I see the IP with the previous information. I don't know why the service network restart is necessary so that he can recognize the ip address.
Any ideas what I could do wrong. or to avoid this manual step of the execution of the service network restart command on the creation of the vm.
Thank you
Kiran
Yes I'm restarting after after the application of customization.
Has been able to solve the problem... In CentOS, the network service does not work by default. This is why it does not have network interfaces at startup. So now the machine instant, I started the network services and stop the Network Manager service
using chkconfig network on
chkconfig NetworkManager off
and then cloned from this virtual machine... and apply the customization settings. during the start now it shows the interfaces properly without needing a service restart

Configure the Infiniband interface on virtual machine
Hi all
I installed the driver Mellanox Infiniband on ESXi 4.0 U1.
Now, I want to create a virtual machine using the Infiniband interface.
I added the networking hardware (VM IB Network) in configuration-> hardware-> networking.
I then added new VM IB network on a virtual machine network adapter. Should what type of adapter I use in this case? VMXNET 2 (improved) or VMXNET 3
This procedure is correct?
Kind regards
Bibo
You host does not support the pass through.
This is unrelated to Mellanox drivers.
Please check vSphere help pass-through requirement.

Error during communication with the remote host when you create the new virtual machine
I'm under 7 ESX servers on IBM Blade H22 there is a mistake to invite while I create a new virtual machine
on the vcenter Server
At the end of 30-35 minutes, it gives an error
"Error during communication with the remote host"
The existing machines are working well... I tried to create virtual machines to other ESX servers as well
but the same question. I also tried to make the clone of existing machines, but without success
Can anyone help?
You rescan the LUNS once?
You've restarted the management agent?
You've restarted the vpxa?
If this isn't the case, please perform the step above and check out them.

Disable communication between the host and the virtual machine
I have VM Server 2.0 and one of the virtual machines has the same name as the server and even if the virtual computer is connected to the host only network it generates the Windows error message: duplicate names exist on the network.
is there a way to disable communication between the host and the virtual machines? I just need a virtual network that is isolated from my network complete and host also.
Thank you.
The GUI Server2 is not to choose the other unused vmnets. Then edit your file VMX use a different vmnet of 0, 1 or 8. (which are bridged, host-only and NAT)
Thus, for example, if your VMX has a line that says:
Ethernet0.VNET = "VMNet0.
change to:
Ethernet0.VNET = "VMNet2.
(This assumes that you have not used the network Editor to fill the vmnet2 either).
