Virtual pc XP to run 7

I am currently running windows xp pro sp2 with 512 MB of ram, I want to install windows 7 via virtual pc, but I can not increase by more than 300 something ram on VPC, how can I DO? How can I increase graphic ram, rather than only the RAM?

You may not, and Windows 7 requires a minimum of 1 GB of RAM, anyway.

  • Max memory to a virtual machine when only running on a host?

    Hello

I have a 4 ESXi host with 65522, 60 MB of RAM as reported capacity.

I have a single VM RHEL 6 64-bit running on it.

It is possible to allocate 65524 MB RAM to it, and I did.

Is this correct? I guess that the host system needs little RAM too, and by assigning all the RAM to a virtual computer, one wonders where the host system gets its RAM from?

Everything works, but I wanted to make a clear, if someone can help bring me some light on that?

    Hej Ko,

you could for example in ESXi approve your memory, running 10 virtual machines with 8 GB of RAM on your specific host. ESXi has some management techniques of memory to manage the most effective possible RAM, however if all your virtual machines (or in your case your single VM) would really need all RAM then it does not fit into physical RAM and should be handled by a few different ways, but could end up with what we call vmkernel swap = poor performance.

For your virtual machine, it is probably better to put in something like 62 GB or similar, as this makes the ESXi host operating system and all your VM fit RAM completely.

  • The virtual machine CPU is running high

I have a few virtual machines that use clients running very high on the CPU. Virtual machines are in a resource pool that has 200 000 mhz allocated with expandable reservation. Is it possible to give these machines more CPU cycles?

It doesn't sound like you are running in contention in this pool - if you have limits on the RP move them - one vCPU only working with unique pool - so if your base speed is 2950 and you use all cycles of the only way is to add an another vCPU

  • Windows Virtual PC can be run on Windows 7 Home Premium?

Windows Virtual PC is compatible with Windows 7 Home Premium?
Everything I've seen indicates that XP Mode only works on Windows 7 Professional or ultimate edition, but I would like to know if I can just install Windows Virtual PC on Windows 7 Home Premium and then install my own copy of my old XP machine.  I know that there is another program called Virtual PC 2007, but I have not seen anything to indicate that it is compatible with Windows 7 Home Premium.
Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks - dani

    Hi Dani,

XP mode only works on the teacher/business or ultimate edition.

But you can install the Microsoft Virtual PC on your Home Premium if your CPU/BIOS support VT and install your old XP in a new virtual machine.

  • Add multiple virtual machines to a running script

    Hi all

    This script below works fine

    $vmtest = get - vm "vmname" | Get-opinion

    $vmConfigSpec = new-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineConfigSpec

    $vmConfigSpec.changeTrackingEnabled = $true

    $vmtest.reconfigVM ($vmConfigSpec)

How can I pass a list of virtual machines in a text file c:\vms.txt for this script?

    Thank you

    Alex

I guess your TXT file has a vmname on each line, so you might do something like this

    $vmConfigSpec = New-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineConfigSpec$vmConfigSpec.changeTrackingEnabled = $true

    Get-Content c:\vms.txt | %{  $vmtest = Get-vm -Name $_  $vmtest.ExtensionData.ReconfigVM($vmConfigSpec)}

  • How many virtual machines can be run using the bridge at the same time?

I'm on Win 7 and XP both in Bridge mode. every time the two machines lights I lose the entire network including the host NIC connection. Once I have change the VM to NAT connection I can resume normal activity. Mode bridge on 2 or more VMs is not a supported configuration? Can someone please clarify? I'd appreciate the help.

    Thank you

The default value for switch ports is often the "Desktop" mode, which limits access to the only 2 (port security) MAC addresses. If you need more the port need to be configured as a port of "access".

  • Does anyone has installed W7 32 bit system opus on a virtual pc running within the professional game in W7 64-bit system?

Original title: virtual machine that is running W7

Does anyone has installed W7 32-bit of the system op on a virtual machine running within the professional game in W7 64-bit system?

I am running XP pro on a virtual pc within the professional game in W7 64 bit system but it became unstable and I need to re - install but thought I would ask this question first.

Anyone think that this can/cannot be done?

Yes, 32-bit Windows operating systems can be installed on a virtual machine, even when the host running a 64-bit installation. Also it is not no specific limitation on versions of Windows, guests can run more recent or the same o/s.

  • Closing and reopening the workstation with running virtual machines

I have recently upgraded to 10 Workstation and I am having a strange problem. In preferences, I have checked option which says "continue to VMs run after the closure of workstation. In workplace planned 9 this option worked exactly, but workstation 10 seems that partially works as expected. In Workstation 9 I could close my computer, and then open then in from the tray icon to always see my virtual machines running with the small green icon play on them. However, in the 10 workstation I close the workstation and all my virtual machines continue to run, but when I reopen it workstation all my virtual machines appear in the workstation as if they are off; but they run because I can RDP for them. If I right click on one of them all is grey with the exception of mark it as a favorite and delete. I can't power off, change the settings, see the console, or anything like that. The shows the icon that VMs are being run, but even suspend, stop or suspend tray icon options or background open VMs do not work either. The only way I found actually to get my computer working again is to use the Task Manager to kill the task of vmware - vmx.exe. As soon as the task is killed for each workstation running, they operate again in the workstation.

If anyone has encountered this problem, or know a fix for this? I have run several virtual machines and never have any idea that vmware - vmx.exe is for what VM when needing to change something on one of them. I make sure that I can kill them all in order to make a change to one of them.

    David Moore

Ok. I have this problem. However, the fix has been an awareness in desperate need of repair. I ended up uninstalling the VMware Workstation and then remove all references to the registry with REGEDIT. I then restarted the computer and reinstalled VMware Workstation again. After this heavy treatment, it works again the way it should work. It seems that the upgrade to the latest version of Workstation 9 to the latest version of 10 break something somewhere.

By the way, Dayworker, it was and is version 10.0.3.

  • All virtual machines running on ESXi 5.1 statement of Rx packet loss

Can some of you please do me a favor? Find a virtual machine of yours running on ESXi 5.1, preferably 1117900 and let me know if you see a Rx packet loss in performance stats vCenter provides. Each single VM in my environment records packet loss. Virtual machines running on ESXi 5.0 are not related that at all. This also isn't a problem at the level of the host that there is no loss of package noted it.

    This is a known bug-

  • List of all virtual machines running on a local storage

Y at - it a script when it is applied to the virtual center would show the virtual machines that are running on a local storage of an esx host.  We have about 40 esx running on virtual Center host and there are some VM running on local storage that we have to go offshore, but I need a list of these virtual machines.

If it helps the naming convention for the local storage data store is "exhostname_local".  This is the norm for all hosts.

    Any Advisor.

    It must be Friday

    Try it like this

    Get-Datastore local* | where {$_.ExtensionData.Host.Count -eq 1} | Get-VM -Location $_ | Select Name

Blackdeerhunter wrote: Ive got further system boots to windows and then asks me to activate now what?

Well, let's see...  Oh yes, activate it!

BTW this is not a question of VMware itself as Windows product activation is a Microsoft problem whatever we're running Windows on a physical or a virtual machine.  Except run the Boot Camp partition as a Virtual Machine where the VMware Tools manages the database WPA to allow a start both in native and virtual mode, it would be the extent of the share of VMware in the present itself and the rest to you as a user to deal with Microsoft with.

  • Database SQL vCenter that is running on the virtual machine within vsphere

Hey guys, I was wondering how many of you are running your database remote vcenter on a virtual machine inside your vsphere environment? We always ran the vcenter db on a physical remote outside the vsphere group box, but I am considering the upgrade to sql 2008 R2 and I already have a virtual sql server computer running within vsphere.

Pro/drawbacks to be aware of the db running on a virtual machine?

    Thanks in advance

    Kevin

We rotated our SQL database in a VM for a while now.

Some advantages are for example the wide use of HA and the ability to easily extend if necessary resources. In addition, if you use backup as Veeam software a restore takes only a few minutes from a physical configuration.

There are a few things when you have to keep in mind:

-Make sure that your SQL VM database begins before your vCenter (the service does not start if it cannot reach the database), even if it can be fixed manually it might be something you want to keep in mind

-If you use the distributed switches power risk since data is stored in the database, of course there are solutions for this (keep the traffic on a standard switch management)

-If you use HA make sure you modify the priority of restarting HA for the virtual machine (you don't want a reboot suddenly)

Howerver, I'm not able to find the option

The log file looks good now.  However, it seems that ESX 4.0 is older than I remembered.  Please, add the following line to your ESX VM configuration file and try again:
