Virus + HIREM ceased from Windows startup - SP2 disk stolen - options?

A virus stopped my work of Windows XP.

I managed to activate an installation folder of Windows XP prior to make it work, BUT

I used what I found later be a non registered hirem fix CD -.

HIREM then something deleated in the programs/Windows structure now means that I can not get this boot disk.

I plugged a plu smaller drive that gives me a Windows XP and Internet - access with my now non bootable XP disk attached and legible on the USB port.

How can I replace the files on the disk that has no working Windows?

My Windows XP CD was stolen while I was in South Africa!

Keith

Hi Keith,

There are the dangers inherent in the use of any software found on the Internet, and Microsoft cautions you to make sure that you completely understand the risk before retrieving any software from the Internet.

Therefore, I recommend you to get a replacement CD by contacting the Microsoft Supplemental Parts team.

For more information, see:

How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals

Also, I suggest you use the Microsoft safety scanner to keep your computer clean.

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

    Hello

Welcome to the VMware community forums.

Looks like you have already tried a few things!

You're right, normally a 7 b error is related to not having the correct scsi drivers installed, but that your virtual machine using IDE disks, is not what causing errors.

I did a quick search on google and you should be able to disable the mup.sys (multi unc provider) that is used for novell networks using the windows recovery console, the problem is more likely to be due to a corruption of the windows registry.

It's probably better/easier to run windows repair installation of windows.

I guess you have your original windows machine always there in case that you need to return one step? If this isn't the case, so always make a backup before proceeding with the steps like these. Of course, you can also use the capture feature instant molten, but is never the replacement for a real backup.

  • My computer guard direct me to the Windows Startup Repair loop. Is this a virus? If this is not the case, what should I do?

    OK, here's a little history:
When was surfing the Internet (using Mozilla Firefox), he froze and said that he "did not." Then I left the computer alone for a good 15 minutes, but to realize that nothing happened. From there, I decided to disconnect the computer to see if I can re - open Firefox. But when I tried to connect it back, the computer take me on the desk. It was stuck at the screen that says 'Welcome' (the form that appears after clicking on your user name) in the end, I turned off the computer by holding the power button, because there was nothing I could do. When I turned on the computer a few minutes later, it was time that I met a huge problem.

    The problem:
When I turned it back on, a black screen appears that gives you the ability to boot your system with a repair on your computer, or start normally. I chose "start normally. After that, it took me a blue screen with a window that says "Startup Repair". He began to scan the computer saying «attempted repairs...» "When I saw this, I turned immediately shut down the computer, thinking it was some sort of virus that pretends to fix the computer. Nevertheless, I decided to turn it on for the second time. Of course, it's the same thing. But this time, I allow the scanning process to complete. When it was over, he said that the system could not be repaired and advised me to contact Microsoft, with my "contact information." I took this as a red flag, and click Cancel. I suspected it was an attempt to identity theft. (Though, I could be wrong, of course.)

Honestly, I don't know if if there is indeed something wrong with the computer or if it's a virus.

I tried to find out by going online and looking for solutions. From there, I tried a method where you press F8 several times until the Advanced Boot Options go up and selected "Last known Configuration" that did not work. I also heard on the "chkdsk" method, but I don't know how to do and there is no guarantee this will work.

After that, I did more research and realized there were several ways to solve this problem. But when I went through the tutorials, the steps have been very confusing to me. I felt like most of these tutorials aimed computer technicians or people who knew in fixing computers. The steps were so confused until I found myself referring more questions than real answers!

So now I'm reaching out to help, and I really need! It would be greatly appreciated! I really don't want to format all my data.

Please keep in mind that I am a lover of computers operating. The two programs I normally use are Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Word. So please don't be assuming that I know my way in and out of a computer. I'm no where near, in every sense of the term, an 'Expert '. If you can, I would like a simple, easy to follow, simple tutorial, step by step, which is not turned to professional users. Still, I am not very competent in operating computers.

  • Restore files and settings from my old Windows XP system to the newly installed Windows XP SP2.

My old Windows XP no longer works correctly - it would start to Windows, but that restart. Otherwise, all data and system files on the hard disk are completely legible [no error reported by various scans].

I made a copy of that old hard drive [with the problematic Windows XP] on a partition of my drive hard [second] another [using EASEUS Partition Master to copy the whole thing - it created an image of all the old hard disk on a special partition of the second hard disk].

That I took a third hard drive and installed a new Windows XP [SP2] on it. How can I transfer my files and settings from this partition of the second hard disk [which is the image of the original hard drive] third hard disk [which I now use as the bootable hard disk instead of the original one]?

Can I use "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" for whom? If so, how?

    AVI,
I think it's a little late for the transfer Assistant.  You should use it while the other drive has been started.  But you can try the wizard.
Run it and tell him that you are on the new PC.
So say no to create a wizard disk.
Then on the location of the files screen, select other and see if it will let you access the info on your another drive.
In my view, it will look for the file in the wizard, but it is worth it.

If this does not work then you need to just reinstall your programs and manually copy the data to your new drive. Typing of my new Windows 7 64 bit and love it! Soli Deo Gloria!

When I boot with the CD it displays the original message "Setup inspects the configuration of your" then the screen becomes black and does nothing else. instead of the standard blue screen with the loading of drivers.

Has anyone seen this problem? Any help would be really appreciated.

    Thank you.

PS: The CD is fine. I tried in another laptop from another provider and it starts and installs ok.

    Hello Nonak

I've never seen this kind of question, but I heard that standard SP2 cannot be installed on the tablet-PC because of some special characteristics. I'm sure that the installation process may not recognize the tablet pc screen.

In my opinion, you should use recovery DVD for installation of the laptop. It is in fact the professional version of Windows XP Home edition and all utility and specific tools will be installed correctly.
