Virus icon
I have install a security program, but it seemed kind of waste, so I uninstalled again. And the program folder disappeared. So the line with the command to run the program when starting. All that remains is an annoying icon who use space as well as the clock and icons for sound, network and solutioncenter. When I restart the computer, this icon always appears with a link to a http page, and I can't find anywhere in the startup programs that says to run safety program more. And when you open the list of icons in the messages area in Control Panel, it is the icon but windows 7 doesn't have no delete option.
I tried looking for the URL of the icon link to in the registry, but it's not there. But then I saw in Panel - Notification area icon has been called the binary Java (TM)... So, I guessed that mysecuritycenter hid their program in java directories and I uninstalled both 32 + 64-bit java platform. After that, there was still some files stored in 32-bit platform directory that the uninstall program does not remove and I had to reboot to remove them, but then the 'virus' icon disappeared also.
Finally, I used CCleaner to remove bad links to this specific registry directory. Now, I just need to reinstall the java platform.

I had the virus 'file system' and ran the Microsoft Essentials who kidnapped... Then the screen turned grat and all my tyop desktop icons disappeared and my files... I tried to use the restore but it wouldn't return back or in SafeMode... also, I get a notice that the Task Manager is disabled? How can I turn back?
Hi David McGeady.
· You are able to open in safe mode Task Manager?
Follow these methods.
Method 1: Scan the file system (CFS) auditor to repair corrupted files.
Description of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 System File Checker (Sfc.exe)
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310747
Method 2: It seems that the virus is still there. Performs a search using the Microsoft safety scanner.

Note: If bad sectors are found in the hard drive, then it could try to fix this particular sector. If you have any data on that, it can get lost.

Programs not responding not / icons disappeared after picking up a virus?
Hi, I recently got a virus (XP total Security 2011) it seems who performed almost all of my programs, not race, my favorites and desktop icons disappear. I managed via the taskbar options click on the hidden folders option and now they are visible again, but transparent. If I click on mp3s and Itunes works but practically nothing else.
Ive checked some forums and tried regedit, but that is not responding.
I managed to open internet explore without Add ons however if that helps
all ideas
Many thanks richard
Hello RichardBraz,
You must remove the virus from your computer before we continue to fix the problems with the desktop icons and programs.
I suggest you try a run the Scanner in safe mode of Microsoft. To access Safe Mode:
(a) restart your computer and start pressing F8 on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured to start to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.
(b) select an option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and press ENTER.
You will want to choose "Safe Mode with networking" If you need to connect to the internet or your network.
(c) when the boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom, select the installation that you want to start, and then press ENTER.I hope this helps.

Virus or not? All the icons disappeared and the programs need to be reinstalled.
I turned on my computer this morning to find my wallpaper completely changed to the hp one. Also, half of my icons disappeared from my office. Programs that remained must be reinstalled for some reason any. Help, please. I just want to know what happened and make sure that I do not have a virus. Thank you.
Hello
There is no way sure of 100% to prevent it from happening again, and we don't really know the cause.
A glitch like this is sometimes due to an update (Windows, the utility of the Antivirus system manufacturer, or)
another program) and the cure is just another reboot, as it was this time. Although the actual cause is
still unknown.Good for backups of your data, switch off the machine, and follow these steps.

Hello
I recently accidentally acquired a virus on my laptop (VistaAntivirus 2010). I had all of the malware and starting problem files deleted from my computer by Symantec's Norton Internet Security and malware. Now when I click on an icon in my Start menu or desktop it is said: "this file has no program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the control panel to define the Associations. " (This only works because the dose of short name not mount in the set Associations control panel) where it says "Choose the program you want to use to open this file" accompanied by a list of the programs and the ability to navigate. (If I choose one that will work temporarily but not next time I click on it.) What can I do to fix this? Any tips? I have Windows Vista Home Edition. Help, please!

Use above message for intense and thorough check for malware.
To restore the ability to run any .exe programs.
1 make a Restore Point so that you can come back if necessary back although probably not required.

Viruses such as the behavior of the Acrobat Reader software. I have a laptop running WIN 7 and kaspersky AV. yesterday when I started my laptop I see all the icons from the browser on my QuickStart bar have been changed to the adobe reader icon and also observe that many other programs on my desktop have changed to the adobe reader icon. If you click the icon it opens adobe reader. I deleted Adobe reader using Add or remove programs and the icons back to normal. Yet once, I downloaded and installed Adobe reader 11. the problem has resurfaced. then again, I've uninstalled adobe reader software and installed Adobe Reader version 10 with the same question back. I have now uninstalled Adobe Reader. Please advise on how to install a working copy Adobe reader which will not infect or impinge upon other programs in my laptop.
Hi imoorthy,
Please follow the troubleshooting steps mentioned in this document KB Application, file icons change in Acrobat/Reader icon.
