Any ideas of how I can find out what it is and get rid?
Hello!
My experience with Norton is not very good. You should try AntiVir. It of freeware and a good antivirus program. Try it!
But you should use an antivirus program on the laptop.
In addition you can to find the virus with Adaware.In the worst case, you must reinstall the laptop with the Toshiba recovery disc.
Good bye

I really need HELP! I received the nugel.exe virus on my laptop. I have Windows XP and I was reading how to remove it. They told me to go to click on the Start button in it, then click on run. type msconfig and on the Startup tab, uncheck everything that ends with TSSD. Well, none of which ended in TSSD was there, so I was told everything that had an UNKNOWN manufacturer in buttons SERVICES and STARTUP uncheck. I restarted my computer and the NELSON was always there. Then suddenly my computer shut down on its own and restarted with a screen that says now "Windows didn't start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \system32\hal.dll

Looks like you have made incorrect changes in system configuration utility.
See the Microsoft articles below to solve the problem by installing the recovery console and use the Bootcfg.exe tool to rebuild the Boot.ini file.

Probably what you see is a fake windows alert activation. Please read the article on the link below to see if it applies to you.

They will help you when repost you in Forum Vista security at the above address.
Data recovery:
1. slave of your hard drive in another computer and read/save your data out there.
2. put your Hard drive in a USB hard drive case, plug it into another computer and read/save from there.
3 Alternatively, use Knoppix Live CD to recover data:
http://www.Knopper.NET/Knoppix/index-en.html
Download/save the file Knoppix Live CD ISO above.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
Download the Vista software from the link above.
After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.
Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.
Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1st in the boot order.
Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.
When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.
Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.
Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).
Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.
See you soon.
Can I get XP to reinstall CD riddled virus computer Tecra laptop?
I pulled Security Essentials due to poor execution. Now the machine is suddenly so riddled with viruses that it can reach any websete - not even AID work. I got the computer second hand a copy legitimate XP Home Edition on it but not the disks. Can I get the disks to reinstall the OS?
The former owner should have you the software. It was a PC provided with the operating system already installed, if the OEM software, which is the responsibility of the manufacturer. You can try to contact their support, but I wouldn't hold your breath.
How can I find and remove the 'eco antivirus' virus from my laptop?
I recently contracted computer disguised as «eco antivirus» virus I can't find the files on my computer to remove them. I also tried to do a system restore in the hope of eliminating the virus. What can I do?
Eco Antivirus is a rogue security program. Here is the removal instructions:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-eco-antivirus-2010
If you can't do the work yourself (and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea), take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). Please be aware that not all shops are skilled at removing malware, and even if they are, your computer may be so infested that Windows will have to be properly installed. If possible, have all your data backed up before taking the machine into a shop.
HP laptop: HP telephone scam? Regarding the laptop computer viruses
I just got a phone call from someone claiming to be with the HP support. On my phone caller ID showed as unknown caller. The man said that HP has determined that I got a virus in my laptop via social media.
Anyone got some these calls? I'm pretty sure it's a scam, but do not want to double check. I asked the man on the phone to give me a call back number in case we were cut off. The number he gave me was 888-883 - 6944.
Thank youHello there @paularose,
It has come to our attention that the person who contacted you is not with a valid HP company we know, nor the 888 number is affiliated with what be HP. Please, don't try to contact the number or give the appellant any information regarding your personal or your products. HP is aware of these false figures and it is not recommended to give them all the information.
We apologize that you are getting these calls.
Thank you
Laptop HP 15-R203TX: open source of the best Anti virus
is their any better anti open source of virus for my laptop HP 15-R203TX
Please suggest me
If you are looking for free antivirus programs, you might consider Free AVG or AVAST. Both are highly rated. I use AVG on most of my computers at home but is currently using AVAST on my main computer. AVAST has a tendency to be a little less intrusive, it does not require reboot as often as AVG when it only updates frequently. Lately AVG is requiring a restart, every month or more often, seems, I don't remember the last time AVAST was forcing me to restart the machine, at least, it's much less common than AVG Free.
I got the virus Trojan on my laptop G56, AVG has tried to remove it didn't work!
Can I get help to eliminate this #^ % $# % @$ Trojan Virus from my laptop... Help!
Hello
Try the following.
On another PC, follow the procedure below to create a CD bootable, allowing you to scan your computer and if all goes well remove malware. This utility analyzes the hard drive outside Windows and therefore has a better chance to eliminate malware.
Windows Defender in offline mode.
Once this done, start in Windows, then download and install the free version of MBAM and SUPERAntiSpyware on the links below.
When it is installed, perform full crawls with these two utilities - if malicious software is detected, remove/quarantine it and run the scan again until both applications are own return.
Kind regards
Laptop starts up. Using Windows XP. Possible virus.
Is anyway to remove a virus from a laptop myself. I have a Dell Latitude c510 using Windows XP. Can not get it started. Just keep to this unknown hardward message prevented windows from start, then it counts down to 30 seconds to restart and the same thing/message happen again. D & lc = 1033 & urlnum = 0
skee40,
It could be the hard drive, but it could also just be that the OS was corrupted too badly to start properly. If you have a recovery disk or the XP disk, then you can perform a repair installation, see if that fixes the problem. If it's a recovery OEM installation of repair disk may not be an option and you may need to do a factory restore (which will erase the drive). You should consult the manufacturer of PC on the food options they provide. Mike - Engineer Support Microsoft Answers
