Vista - Cannot install SP2. Cannot install checksur.exe

For Vista 64 SP2 fails to install on my machine (I have SP1). I get error 0 x 80040002 (no such interface - wish he told me what interface on which object but it is too much).

After trying all sorts of things, I have downloaded and run installation for "analysis of system update tool." After a very long period the installation came back and said it was successful. But I can't find the checksur.exe anywhere on my machine.

Everything I found was a new dir, d:\windows\checksur. This directory contains only 5 .cab files. I have not found the checksur.exe in any of them. Windows desktop search fails to find the file also (is not surprising given that I searched all c:\ and d:\ and came up empty.) Note: c:\ is my 64 bit XP and d:\ where my Vista 64 SP1.

So, where is this tool or do I have to do now that I have installed these .cab files?

Hello

We will try the steps below to solve problems installing SP2 for vista.

Step 1: There are a few steps to keep in mind before you install service pack 2.

For more information visit:

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-GB/Windows-Vista/learn-how-to-install-Windows-Vista-Service-Pack-2-SP2

Step 2: Close or disable any applications that may be running, restart the computer, and then install the service pack

Important These steps may increase your security risk. These steps may also make the computer or the network more vulnerable to attack from malicious users or malicious software such as viruses. We recommend the process that this article describes to enable programs to operate as they are designed for, or to implement specific program features. Before you make these changes, we recommend that you evaluate the risks that are associated with implementing this process in your particular environment. If you decide to implement this process, take additional measures to protect the system. We recommend that you use this process only if you really need this process.

During installation, one of the most frequent causes of failure occurs when a third-party application holds open a file or locks a file that the service pack installer should use. For example, an application third-party antivirus or antispyware may cause this problem. To minimize this risk, follow these steps:

a. close all applications and restart your computer.

b. Once your computer has restarted, disable any antivirus or any antispyware application that can load during the startup process. You can normally disable the notification area application. This area is located in the bottom right corner of the computer screen. To disable an application in the notification area, follow these steps:

i. right click on the icon of the third-party program.

II. clickClose, disable, outputor an equivalent term in the list of options. If these options are not available, you may open the application and then close or disable in the application.

c. as soon as you close the antivirus or the antispyware software, try to clickhereto install the download package full of the service pack that you previously downloaded from the following Microsoft Download Center Web site.

d. After completing the installation of the service pack, enable the antivirus or the antispyware software that you disabled in the previous steps.

Step 3: Check if the problem persists in the clean boot state.

Put your boot system helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem.

Try the steps instep 1 in the article to put your computer in clean boot mode.

  • No sound on Vista after installing SP1/SP2 with Realtek

    Hello.

I encountered a strange problem on the computer of my parents-in-law office. After an installation of SP1 (and later SP2) no sound stereo speakers that is connected to the computer to an outlet.

The computer is an Acer Aspire T180 with a built-in audio device Realtek HD (5.1, but the connected speakers are two standard PC speakers), and the operating system is Vista. Before installing SP1, the sound was working properly, and absolutely no software or hardware changes have been completed.

    My troubleshooting so far include:

-Tested with a helmet and another pair of speakers that I know works

-I have obviously checked that nothing is cut in all available parameters, or speakers

-Tried each input/output on the back of the computer, as well as on the front

-Checked in "output devices" that the speakers are connected and checked by default device

-Tried the two codecs/drivers available here: http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/desktop/aspire_t180.html

-Tried the drivers of avaiable supplied directly from Realtek: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/

-Uninstalled Realtek everything (both in the Device Manager and programs) and let Vista automatically install the original drivers

-Disabled the 'digital output device (s/PDIF)"which is in the list of devices in output/game

-Unchecked the 'detect connection on the front"in Realtek audio manager program

-In addition, SP2 has been installed, which did not help. In addition, I tried every setting available, uninstalled/installed and so on. During music playback (or test tones Realtek or Windows sounds) all is apparently looking for OK with indicators of volume, jumping up and down, but everything is quiet.

So I'm out of ideas and cannot understand this. I am very grateful for any help and advice. Thank you!

  • Lenovo T61 - 7663-AY2 uninstall Vista SP1 to SP2 and now cannot restart

    Hello community,

I did something wrong with my Lenovo computer.

I tried to upgrade vista SP1 to SP2 in order to continue to receive updates from windows, but I failed to improve.

I read on a forum that to go if you have some difficulties to move from SP1 to SP2, the best thing to do is to uninstall SP1, in order to re-install again and after the update to SP2 is easy.

So I uninstalled Vista SP1: KB936330 from my laptop and now it cannot restart. I'm facing the famous! 0xc01a001d! registry error.

I tried all content restoration factory (MS DOS, restoring from the last restore point), but it cannot restart.

Is there a usual thing do in this case, before the start in the order, he returned with the factory setting?

My warranty expired on September 21, 2010, and I bought my computer in France while I am in England now.

Thanks a lot for your help.

  • How to install Windows XP Home SP2 to a Dell 755 Tower comes with Vista Business installed?

    OK guys,

I aquried a used Dell 755 minitower that had wiped HARD drive, but originally shipped with Vista Business installed o/s. This computer still had the sticker code product key for Vista Business on the computer.

I have a Windows XP Home SP2 OEM disc with a product code and tried to install it on this computer, but I get an protection windows with a blue screen error whenever I tried.

I have a Vista Home OEM disk basic with its own key code product. The computer has allowed me to install this operating system, but not would allow me to use its product key code, but would allow me to use the old Vista Business key product code that was on the computer and complete the installation. Everything was fine, but I just don't like Vista o/s and I would like to install my OEM Windows XP Home SP2 to this computer and high grade it to SP3.

In dealing with this computer, I discovered it would allow me to load Windows XP Pro just find, but I was using a copy borrowed this o/s and had to uninstall if I could return it to its owner. I also borrowed a copy of Windows 7 OEM I installed in this machine and it works just fine, but I had to uninstall it to return to its owner.

I still want to know why I can't install Windows XP Home Edition for this machine.  Does anyone have information about this situation or a way to solve it?

    Btk (billy the kid)

Looks like the drive you borrowed your friend had a SATA driver integrated into it.  What you can do, is go into the BIOS and change the AHCI to IDE mode.  This should allow you to install XP.  Or you could use a floppy disk and install the driver by pressing f6 during installation.

Don't forget: OEM keys are related to the original motherboard enabled on.
