  I decided to use the recovery disk that was created at first boot. According to all the manuals that I found (on - and offline), it is just to put the recovery disk in the DVD-ROM and restart.

  The problem is that nothing happens. The computer does not use the disk when it reboots.

  Anyone experienced the same problem with the recovery disk?

  You may need to change the BIOS to do first the CD drive in the boot sequence to boot from the CD.  To do this, hold the screen that tells you the key F to push to enter the menu start or start of installation.  Push it quickly. Make the changes, save your work and exit.  Put the CD in the drive and reboot.  When you are prompted, press any key to boot from the CD.

  You can change your password to something you remember (or use a white) another administrative user account. If you had only an administrative user account, all is not lost.   You absolutely don't want to have only one user account. As XP and all the other modern operating systems, Vista is a multi-user system with integrated system of accounts as default Administrator and comments.   In particular, you do not want one account user with administrative privileges on Vista because the administrator account integrated (normally only used in emergencies) is disabled by default. If you use as an administrator for your daily work, and this account is corrupt, things will be difficult.  It is not impossible to activate the built-in administrator to rescue things, but there may be more that you want to do. Better not to put you in a bad situation at first.

  The user account that is for your daily work must be a Standard user, with the extra administrative user (call it something like 'CompAdmin' or 'Tech' or similar) only it for elevation purposes. After you have created "CompAdmin", connect to it and change your normal user account Standard. Then log on to your regular account.

  Windows Vista does not start.  It shows the horizontal scrolling green bar with microsoft (c) and then goes to a black screen with the mouse arrow that moves. Start in safe mode loads the drivers to the extent of the crcdisk.sys but meet once again at the black screen with the mouse arrow.   Have not the SATA drives connected.  Impossible to get to the command prompt to delete all files.  No work from safe mode.  Restore computer does not work.  I have looked at other posts regarding the renaming/deleting files, but cannot get to the command prompt to resolve this problem.  The computer is less than 2 years.

  Toshiba Satellite A205-S5831, dual processor running.  Running Windows Vista BASIC.  Hard drive seems to work, lighting, well working properly, no error at startup.  No perifpherals or a mouse, or a USB attached.  Disabling USB does not boot.

  Problem solved. Recommendations by e-mail has helped. I had to use 'Device Manager' from the Vista Control Panel for adding new hardware. I also need to add a new driver. The Kodak in Windows Vista camera driver worked. The camera is now recognized. Thanks for the help.

  I actually had this problem for a long time, but I'm just now to a point where I'm ready to take a lead in fixing it.

  I can't identify when it started, but Windows Vista does not start upward, with success of a full stop. He gets to the screen where, in general, the green bars will travel across the screen, but the green bars will not come. The screen looks dim and sits there, with the text of the copyright of Microsoft Corporation. So, after not having on the mound, I have to manually shut down the computer by holding down the power button. When I try to start again, told me to go through the Startup Repair tool.
