  If came preinstalled winxp either you should have a recovery cd or a hidden restore partition. Only PC manufacturer can provide a restore disc.
  If you purchased a retail version of Windows XP, you must provide proof of purchase, i.e. a receipt until you receive a replacement disc

If you intend to restore the PC using the disk, the disk may completely format the hard disk and to restore. But, you can start the recovery process from the PC, without the need to restore disc, because the PC contains a separate recovery partition. You can begin the process of recovery of the partition of hard drive also. Consult the manual of the PC user for more information.
