Vista SP2 killed my PC

Well, it's certainly very bad. SP2 fails to install.  After the initial failure, my PC stops after a random period of time up to 2 hours. He keeps trying to install some other updates, so the problem is not hardware. I have also now bad performance sound and nervousness. Failed installation code is:

WindowsUpdate_800B0100

Any suggestions?

    Hello.
Whenever I have install Service Pack 2 on a computer running Windows Vista (32 bit), he kills the features of Windows Update and stuck on "Looking for updates.

I tried 3 times from zero (clean Windows from recovery DVDs).
Up to Vista Sp1, I can install all updates from Windows Update... but if I install the SP2, Windows Update stop in the works.
I tried Microsoft Fix program, manually delete the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution, catroot2, ecc
"Windows Update Readiness tool" and http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/windows-update-error-8000ffff too.

    This is a known bug?

Apparently, if you enable automatic updates, a little incontinence appear... (also if it does not work) If you leave it alone for a while (a few hours, a large number of hours) and after rebooting your computer, you will receive updates in the background and it patch the Vista operating system. This solved my problem (a hidden patch?).

  • Tecra M9-136 - BSOD during Vista SP2 update

Tecra M9-136 asked this morning to upgrade to the Vista SP2 and in the process the BSOD 0x0000007E arrived. Restarted in Mode safe and continuous Setup and then finally reported that the update failed - and came back to SP1. It took most of the morning.

It will start in Safe Mode, but on a start normal, Vista SP1 gets through fingerprint recognition and then fails with the same BSOD (there is regarding the display of the desktop).

The laptop has BIOS 1.80 level. I tried in safe mode to install 1.90 but he told me that the battery has insufficient charge and the AC adapter is not attached. Both wrong.

Stuck - need advice. Could this be a hard failure? Can't see how I can update whatever it is if it's a soft fault.
    Thank you

Have you tried to make back the OS to an earlier time before the SP2 installation started?
You can do it in safe mode.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? I tried to disable MS Windows Indexing. I see no obvious problem. No other changes have been made. This occurred immediately after the installation of Windows Vista SP 2.

    Any tips?

I think you're the first person who has posted it here in the forum.
I looked for similar topics but I found nothing.

If you have noticed this after the Vista SP2 so I guess it has something to do with the new MS. patches Maybe there is a problem of compatibility between some patches and the pilot.
But have you tried reinstalling the driver?
If this is not the case to do this and check what's happening

  • Blue screen after Windows Vista SP2 installed on my TouchSmart IQ770

All, I came across this thread, after having the same problem (constant BSOD after Vista SP2) installed.  The fix referenced by MS that contains a placeholder file.  However, this most recent patch http://support.microsoft.com/kb/975163/ contains even more recent versions of all the files in question.

For this installation, I went to safe mode and disabled the wireless network card.  I copied the fix of a usbstick on the desktop.  After the reboot of the machine was stable enough to install this fix (before it would break before the fix might get installed).  After the restart, yet once again, I have reactivated the wireless card.

The system seems to be stable again (its place for over an hour now, the previous record was 5 minutes approximately from SP2)

I hope this helps someone to another Google search for Vista SP2 IQ770 BSOD USB

  • Vista SP2 error 8007371c

Hey guys.  I tried to install updates to windows on a CLEANING system, which means that I reformatted before that I installed the windows updates.  After reformatting my computer, I went ahead and downloaded and installed every single update Windows update throw at me.  Vista SP1 was not available, so I installed it successfully.  After that, I got more updates and install them, and Windows Update prompted me to download and install the Vista SP2, so I did.

After you download it, he tried to install it, but it failed because error code: 8007371 c, an unknown error.  Of course, I took the necessary precautions before installing the Vista SP2, which is closing all programs, running system preparation tool, try in safe mode if all else has failed and ultimately using Selective startup.  I should not REALLY have a problem with the installation of SP2 since I was on a clean system.  Then, I downloaded the standalone version of SP2 on the microsoft Web site and tried to install it.  I got an error saying: error: ERROR_SMI_PRIMITIVE_INSTALLER_FAILED (0x8007371c).  I posted this on a Vista forum and a user told me that since I can not install it on a clean system, it may be a problem with my drivers as they may be exceeded.  Well, I went to the Device Manager and pretty much checked almost all of my devices and found them to be up-to-date.

    Any ideas?

  • Error 80004005 by installing Windows Vista sp2 x 64

I tried to install this updated 4 x I read an answer in this forum which is similar to my problem and I tried the solution, but it would not install.
I noticed something this last time because I saw the installation process. We all know that the system can reboot several times during the installation. During the 3rd part of the installation, the user account screen asking for the password. However, I had no time to type the password in it, because it jumps to a screen saying that the computer is to install the updates. Then, when the updates for the 3rd party are finished 100% it is said that they can not be installed. Then the computer uninstalls them and puts the computer in its preinstallation State. Is it possible, because I didn't have a chance to enter my password, the computer refuses to recognize me as the administrater during the last part of the installation.  Therefore, maybe stop the installation process of the necessary changes and it returns to the previous state. I'm probably grasp at straws here, because I have never had a problem like this before. Does anyone know what I need to do to remedy the situation?
I don't know if it's important but I installed another update after the 3rd time. The update has been successfully installed and working. So I thought that everything was ok and tried to install sp2 again. It's the same thing. Why can I install other updates, but not as an individual? Other than this problem installing, the computer works pretty well. I didn't notice a slow or something else for the past two weeks. I'm puzzled.

I have an (office) Packard Bell imedia x 5705 Intel Core 2 Quad 4 x 1 GB (RAM) 2.33 GHz
    1000 gigabit hard drive
Type system in Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit
    Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GT130

This computer is connected to 2 other computers with a D - Link KVM Switch. One of the other computers has a 32-bit system Intel dual core Vista sp2 running without any problem. They also share a router for internet access broadband.

Should I try to reuse the recovery disk? I don't want to make things worse.

Thank you, Debbie - the technical support for all your help.
I went through all the steps mentioned above in the correct order. However, they have not corrected the problem.
I used the Packard Bell Recovery Management options and restore my computer to its original state. Then I installed all necessary updates including sp2. I was not activate the preinstalled anti-virus software, or change programs or settings up to that later. That's the good thing. Packard Bell Recovery Management also creates a separate file for all personal files. Thus, when the computer has been reset, I still had my personal files.

  • After the upgrade to vista SP2, windows does not start.

I have download and install vista SP2, everything goes well with the installation, no error, it ends without a problem, then it restarts my computer and after reboot, it comes up saying that windows didn't start (or your computer might not start)

I have 2 choices, start windows normally, that does nothing when I pick it up, the other option is to fix the problem, when I choose that it restore my computer to until I installed SP2, ive tried 3 times now with no luck.

also on a note related, when I try and open internet explorer 7, it crashes, it is said that she is looking for a fix for the problem and suggests so I run windows update, which is what suggested I download SP2.

any help anyone can give would be most appreciated.

  • The installation of Vista SP2 broke my computer

I've lived in innumerable discussions on this site and many others to solve this problem the Vista SP2 has caused my computer to have. I have a Toshiba with Vista x 64 Home Premium computer and after several attempts failed to download SP2 months ago, I tried last night and after that he was 100% and restarted my computer it actually ruined my computer to be useful. I don't have a vista disc but a recovery partition. I already tried to use the restore point created by vista before installing SP2, but of course since it is vista this restore point fails and I have created several others before, but as if by magic, they are not put at my disposal. What is even more galling it broke my partition Ubuntu separate to be able load as well which makes absolutely no sense.

I get the same error again and again as hundreds of others after SP2 installation on the black screen: ! 0xc0190036! 3029/89361 (dsound.dll) , I found a solution involving the use of partitions recovery tools command prompt to use this code:

    C:
    CD windows
    CD system32
    faultrep.dll.old Ren faultrep.dll
    output

now, it worked the first time during this first stop in 1316/89361 on the startup process when he stopped to faultrep.dll, then of course another stop to dsound.dll happened and I tried the same thing, as advised in a support forum and it worked in the command prompt, but loading at startup it will pass fine faultrep since the fix but will not pass the dsound.dll portion.

I ran a test of memory and a hard drive and it is absolutely not she. It was absolutely the installation of Vista SP2 all screwing.

A lot of people with this problem have been very well when they could use their restore point, but of course vista is still inconsistent and would not allow me to restore my computer so now I have a $1200 thanks to the crap service Pack2 weight. I can log on to the recovery tools command prompt and open notepad.exe and file open to view my computers content together intact so much, I would like to know a solution for this problem. I also found a command line to uninstall SP2 with high fees, but because I can not connect via the mode without failure of all or the safe mode with command prompt, how am I supposed to use the instructions to uninstall sp2 via command prompt?

Any help would be greatly appreciated since windows makes my computer a waste of money.

The page I used to solve problems has been directly for the support site for windows and for exactly the same problem I have but he did nothing. http://support.Microsoft.com/default.aspx/KB/975430 is the link, I tried method 1 is the system restore and that has failed, because it fails just about my only point that shows that I did much more than restoration. Method 2 is to rename the file that stops the boot process, who worked for the first file but not the second. Method 3 is the startup repair that does not work.
