Vista thinks my CD are white

It is a problem I've seen many, many different places online - with just as many solutions and tried them all to nothing does not.

My laptop has Windows Vista and whenever I put the CD in it think they are empty - but they are not, as my desktop XP works fine.

I tried the registry fixes, and they seem to make no difference.  I tried almost everything I found, and it does not help.

Hello

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as it is often the total process
which solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double-click on the device - driver tab - click
Update the drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then RIGHT click the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
This will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a loose cable or
slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

===============================

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD
Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
do it right.

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are some registry
entries that do not fix the resolution of problems and those who "could" be the cause.

Check with your Maker system and a device for the two possible firmware updates and the
correct registry entries for your car.

Here are the keys in my opinion, are those in question - for the CD/DVD drive of course subkeys as
There will be other subkeys in these keys. Do not forget to ask involved specific keys as well as the

Thanks in advance for your answer.

    Hi Gerry

I also have the RTM version, but to my knowledge, this is not an original version finally.
You are a customer of Microsoft and tester?
As far as I know this customer gets this version ;)

In any case, I read on the Microsoft website that the official launch of Vista has been defined on January 30, 2007. If you don't have any original final version.

By the way; I put t found any what Toshiba laptops that come with the Vista operating system at the moment so I think it is the reason for no driver Tosh at the moment.

  • Vista think webcam is a xerox scanner

Hello gurus of Vista... I have a laptop MSI P600 with a fresh install of Vista. All drivers from the installation of notebooks disc have been installed and all recommended Microsoft updates have been download and installed. The problem seems to be with built-in webcam of my notebooks. It is not recognized correctly in Device Manager. It seems that Vista thinks that it is a "Xerox WorkCentre Pro Scanner".

Thinking that I have buggered things during the new installation I repeated the whole process two times with the same result.

I visited the MSI download for the drivers section based on the P600, but the camera driver is apparently included in the software of the operating system, so is not available!

I did a search in all kinds of forums without success on a software fix or work around.

If I new the name of the driver file, I need for the webcam to work maybe I could just set up myself, but I don't know how to go about finding a solution.

Someone at - it ideas how to sort it? I really want my webcam back.

    See you soon

    tRev.

Oops, sorry for this Trev. I did not notice the screen name.

You could try updating the chipset drivers to see if it helps the BONES to identify the webcam, looks we're available for this laptop model.

A scanner and webcam are considered "imaging devices", which perhaps explains why it rises not properly as a scanner.

You can also remove all instances of the Device Manager to try to reinstall another.

Additional copies of the device could cause a conflict.

  • Windows vista 32 bit progams are installed twice!

    Microsoft Sync Framework Runtime Native v1.0 (x 86) 624KB

and the last is: Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 ATL update KB 973923-86 8.0.50727.4053 installed on 06/04/10

Do I need all these programs on this computer?

I made a full recovery from this computer on 04/04/10 and constantly updates are installed. SP2 was installed today. I watched the KB articles and found that some of these programs were not made for this vista. Is this OK to uninstall?

I don't think these programs are duplicates there are has some differences in the size or number of KB?

Short, if it is not correct, answer is that if they went down via Windows updates, then, Yes, you have probably them.

You can confirm this, if you wish, by creating a system restore point, and then uninstall programs.  If Windows Update when it is run manually tells that you need, then I guess you really need.  You use the system restore point to return to the front you have uninstalled, or the download via Windows Update.

    Hi, Frédéric L.Jackson,.

    1. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
    2. Are you referring to completely white desktop icons or icons changed?
    3. You have security software installed on the computer?
    4. What happens when you try to access white desktop icons?
    5. Are the program of white desktop icons or any file?

    Method 3

If the problem does not persist in safe mode, then it is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you configure the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

  • Windows Media Player - WMP11 for Vista - error C00D1169 problem - area Code

I am actually answering my own question here in case someone else can benefit from my own frustration.

I recently started getting this error region code using WMP11 to open a DVD, but only if the DVD was stored on my hard drive.  And it didn't matter if it was an internal or external hard drive.

    • I checked the DVD region coding, and it is multi-region.  I tried to change to region 1, just in case a recent update has had an effect on the ability to play multi-region DVDs.  Still no luck.
    • I tried to play a DVD stored on a different hard drive - still nothing.
    • I checked that I had possession of all the records and files, and I did.
    • I tried to open WMP as an administrator (suggested by a single site) - it did not help.
    • So I went home the other end - I played a real DVD from the DVD drive - that worked.
    • I created an ISO file from the DVD to the hard drive and open the ISO in a virtual DVD-ROM.  It worked, too.
    • I opened the DVD to the hard drive using another sweet drive - who also worked.

So now I'm very frustrated.  I scoured the registry looking for anything that be something having to do with the DVD region.  I determined that WMP will play a real live DVD and even a virtual DVD.  I spent hours searching the Web for an answer, when I came across a page that suggested, almost as an after-thought, turn ON User Account Control.  Well, I thought: UAC is already on.  But then it dawned on me that I don't have to confirm before you open the registry editor, that UAC should require at any time, because RegEdit is always an administrator-level program.

A month ago, in my startup routine I had added opening Process Explorer (an invaluable program) at a high level.  Well, it turns out that, by confirming the UAC for Process Explorer in my boot sequence, I was indeed disable UAC for the whole session.  I logged out and back again, except that I cancelled out lifting Process Explorer when connecting.  Voila!  WMP opened the DVD fine.

Now I don't really understand why disable UAC would affect WMP it - and frankly, I do not why.  I'm just glad that I found the solution to my problem.  However, it raises a serious security problem.  If raising a program to administrator level when starting effectively disables UAC for the whole session (which I understand as), all those who do not realize that could do the same thing that I did and leave themselves wide open to an attack, while thinking that they are protected by the UAC.

So, a quick way to check if UAC really does its job is to open the run (Windows key + R) dialog box, type regedit and click OK.  If you get the screen greyed with UAC confirmation request dialog box, UAC works correctly.  If RegEdit opens immediately, UAC is not.  To enable it, go to the Start Menu > Control Panel > accounts user and family safety > user accounts.  I recommend seen UAC on all time - it was designed for a reason.  Yes, it's a bit annoying having to confirm operations before they will run, but it's nothing compared to the inconvenience of having your whole system destroyed by an attacker.  My brother and I have had this happen under XP without UAC, even with an anti-virus update.

I hope I could help someone.  I wouldn't think that I lived all this frustration for nothing :)

    Hello.

Just to let you know that your answer was very helpful for me. I had the same problem and I was bit surprised to discover that it was the solution.

    Thank you very much.

  • Icons are white or invisible at the start of windows 7.

We have just upgraded a laptop Sony Vaio running Vista 32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium. There were not problems by installing the software and Windows loads fine but once it does all the icons on the desktop and in the menu start are either a box white or completely gone. The icon shortcuts seem to work when you double-click. The same problem occurs in windows Explorer. For example, in the pictures folder, none of the thumbnails are viewable. It's the same thing with the white boxes. We have updated the drivers and it doesn't seem to help. I also reset the icon cache and who still doesn't seem to help. The interesting thing is that if I start the computer in safe mode icons ARE visible. Any ideas on what can be causing this and what can we do about it?
