Vista won't start! gray screen

When I start my computer, windows error recovery comes with 2 optoins.
Start the reboot system (recommended)
Start windows normally.
When I click on startup repair "windows loading files", and then black screen for a minute or 2, then a gray screen with message
"system recovery options" the installed program cannot start. Click ok to turn off the computer...

I put the boot to boot from the cd/dvd and using a recovery disk, "press any key to start from the cd/dvd.
then "windows loading files" then it goes to a blue screen with some white thick vertical lines.
After about 5 minutes or more, the "install windows" screen.
I enter the language/time andcurrency/keyboard and click Next.
then repair windows.
"system recovery options" appears, but there is nothing in the box operating system for me to click to fix?
"If you do not see your operating system listed, click load drivers to load the drivers from your hard drive or click on the next button... what should I do to reslove this as im going nuts! Please help me.

(I don't have a vista disc (pre installed on the laptop), I have the recovery disk is one that I downloaded on the net)

"I would contact the manufacturer of the computer, if under warranty."

I have alread advises you to contact the manufacturer, as the disc of startup repair does not; which you say Toshiba:

http://www.CSD.Toshiba.com/cgi-bin/TAIS/support/JSP/home.jsp

Read the background information:

How to get Vista recovery Media or the Vista recovery Partition on your computer back to factory settings.

There is no Vista free download legal available.

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...

Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.

Ask them if you can also make recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.

They will tell you how to do this.

Every computer manufacturer has their own way of making recovery disk/s.

Good luck with Toshiba.

See you soon.

    Hello

I have a Toshiba P200 - 17 c of the vista computer and it won't start, freezes on the splash screen. I have
used iso image to boot from and ran repair disk, makes no difference.
Machine will not get beyond microsoft loading page (with yellowish scroll bar).

My question is: How can I replace / repair the boot.ini file to get the machine to start or disable all applications / drivers for applications in order to get the machine to start.

I have not (my fault) create a back up or restore disk.
After booting the machine from cd, system repair running and try to run the system restore doesn't work...

Can anyone advise on a way to replace/repair boot.ini or turn off the drivers?

Try to avoid to pay another £30 pounds for a recovery disc that I already paid for the licensed software, don't know why.
If you pay because you do not get a copy of Vista with machine...

    Hello

    > How to replace / repair the boot.ini file to get the machine to start or disable all applications / drivers for applications in order to get the machine to start.
I doubt that this could be done under Vista cannot modify the boot.ini as on Win XP OS.
To edit the boot.ini file you must use the BCDEDIT command.
However, I put t think it would start the Vista correctly.

    In my opinion you have two options;
You can use the safe mode and might attempt to start the Vista slim or you have to reinstall the entire operating system yet.
But I doubt you'll be able to start in safe mode if the system repair and system restore didn't work too.

So in my opinion the last real solution could be the new facility.

  • Vista won't start and F8 does not work

I got a SONY VGN-SR140D laptop, when I try to start the system. It behaves as follows:

After past the Sony logo it enters a black screen with an indicator of underscore flashing on top of the left hand and remains there goes no where.

I try to press F8, it does not work. However I still be able to get into the bios.

I use windows vista DVD to start the system and perform the Startup Repair, but it shows that there is no error. Can I use the memory diagnostic tool to check the memory, but it will not display any errors. Therefore, I use the command prompt to perform the disk check, it displays no error.

After all, I'm trying to restore to the last point, it shows that I don't have a restore restore point. As a result, I am stuck here, please help.

    Hello

Looks like there is some kind of hardware problem. Check with a real store of the computer (not the leeks and pics
at a Best Buy or other department stores) or the Sony Support.

Data may be saved by placing the hard drive on another computer as 2nd car, or in a
box external USB drive - or you can copy the data to removable media such as CD, DVD.
    or other USB keys.

You should be able to do a clean install of Windows which would require programs to be reinstalled
and the data restored from backups (see above). That might not work system exists without repair.

    Hello

Do you not see repair option before going through it or the (repair) process starts by itself?

You get to advance boot menu options if your computer stopped unexpectedly on the previous session. Do you have any external device connected to your computer?

Since it is a random question, I recommend you remove all external devices except the keyboard and mouse and check what is happening. Also, you can try to use his computer in start state in minimum mode for a period of time and check if you are experiencing the same.

To perform a clean boot on a computer that is running Windows Vista, follow these steps.

    1. click on start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.

    2. in the general tab, click Selective startup.

    3. under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.

    4. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all.

    5. click on OK.

    6. When you are prompted, click on restart.

    7. after starting the computer, reinstall and run the program and see if the problem is resolved.

  • Windows Vista won't load - black screen each laptop time starts

I have a Dell Insipron 1525, which does not load Windows Vista.

I can't go past the Recovery Manager screen every time you start, and although I tried all the options available, it does not open in safe mode or normally.

I tried the system restore (even if it says that it cannot find valid 'points'), as well as the repair of the system, and I have also run the Diagnostics, who said there is no error (although I could not see the final report). All paths lead ultimately to the black screen and although I can see and move the cursor, it is that I can get. Any ideas please?

  • Equium L40 - Vista won't start after installation of product recovery

    Hello

I had to realize a product uses recovery provided restore disk on an Equium L40 computer laptop (PLS41). The recovery procedure done his job to the end, reformats and copy all the files and then restarts. Now the problem starts...
The pc gets in front of the BIOS boot screen, then it goes completely black with only a cursor to underscore flashing in the upper corner of the screen. No HARD or CD-rom drive activity.

I did the cover about ten times now. All with the same result. I tried the repair procedure using a Vista boot CD and I also tried using another disk supplied with the computer, anytime upgrade from Vista. Here they are without defects, see the hard drive and shows that the vista files are on it, also sees the winRE partition.

I tired even fresh install from the disc at any time. It also reformats the disk, copies and decompresses all files needed, begins to install the updates on the disk and then said: he needs to restart. It restarts and goes to black screen with flashing underscore cursor. What happens if I press the 'coup of any key to boot from CD' or leave it to boot from the HARD drive.

I tried to fix this for two days now, including endless hours of forum to research, the computer belongs to my friend gets very angry I am. I need help. No one knows how to fix?

    Hello

According to your message, I think that the HARD drive is faulty.
I think there's a defective recording of MBR (MBR) of the drive and therefore the laptop refuses to boot.

One question; have you tried to set the BIOS default settings? If this is not the case, try this.

If it doesn t help and the laptop still does not start upward, then you should ask ASP for verification.
I think it s a problem of HARD disk and, possibly, the HARD drive must be replaced!

  • Vista won't start after the last update of Silverlight - restarts constantly

I installed the latest version of Silverlight from Microsoft Update, July 21.  There are 2 updates, but the other would not move.  My computer worked nomally and later when I stopped it, I got the "Configuring updates... do not turn off your computer" message.  It seemed to take a while, so I went to bed and the next morning, I saw that the computer had finally stopped.  I started it and I got the message "configuration updates stage 3 of 3." 0% complete.  Do not turn off your computer. "After anywhere from 10 seconds to a few minutes, it restarts.  She's constantly - he keeps just reboot and it displays the updates configuration message.  In the System Recovery Options, Startup Repair indicates that everything is OK.  "System Restore" to go to the restore point previous does not work.  What can I do?  The only other option and restore utility is all erase and install the drive from the factory.

I have Windows Vista, the latest service pack and updates.  I have F-Secure anti virus/firewall.

He has also failed to the previous Microsoft Update a week or 2 but it gave an error code of that time.  I looked at the error to Microsoft code and it says that the update log was full and there was a command to enter to remedy.  I did that and installed the update and everything was fine.  Unfortuately I have more error code or order more.

Perhaps related to this problem?  My computer is pretty much dead now after Silverlight updated because it constantly restarts.

Don't boot from the XP CD.

Do an ERD of VistaBootable of the info below:

As is the case with most computers/laptops these days, they do not come with good Vista disc to repair only the recovery disks.

As your grave in the category above, download the ISO on the link provided and make a bootdisk of it.

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

You can make a tool to restart system, System Restore, etc. with it.

    Hello Buzbyb6,

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Forum.

I have a few questions to help you solve your problem.

    • When you try to start you get a blue screen? If so, then try to get the error code number that appears. This will give us more insight as to what might be causing your problem.
    • You can start safe mode? Press F8 boot to Vista. then select Safe Mode.

Some of the things that might cause this problem would be a corrupt file system, bad Ram, or a defective hardware.

    • If you can access the SafeMode. Run CHKDSK to fix the file system. Go to a command prompt and type chkdsk/r
    • Check the RAM with Memtest since a bootable floppy or CD. www.memtest.org
    • Check the disk for bad sectors.
    • If it's just a damaged OS, backup your data and run recovery to restore Windows to its factory condition.

If please post again and let us know if your problem is resolved or if you need further assistance.

  • HP Pavilion A6700y Desktop using Win Vista won't start up

I bought a HP Pavilion model a6700y desktop running Windows Vista in November 2008. I plugged it in for the first time June 2014, after the installation, I registered it with HP and since it has been recorded, it has not completed a full boot sequence. He won ' stay long enough to download and install any updates. She is exceeded for any type of technical support of HP, so I'm on my own. Anyone have any ideas why this computer does not start? FYI - the BIOS battery maintains the date and time.

Buy a used computer from a place like Craigs list is a roll of the dice, you really don't know what you have found.

It seems to me that option 2 would be the obvious choice, at least you know what as your having and it's a reasonable price to pay.  Mark the message that better help as solved if you wish.  The decision is yours.

When you retrieve the computer and it is healthy, I suggest that you make every week a backup image to restore your computer to an exact copy, you have now, including the OS, programs and data.  In this way, you will avoid all the hassles that you had.  I suggest to Macrium reflect free site, Yoda would be proud of you:

  • Vista won't start do not and the Startup Repair tool suspended

    Hello

I just came across some problems with Vista.  I initially became a problem with my network card that he was unable to start the driver.  I made the mistake of unistalling thinking Vista would be to reinstall it when it restarted.  Since then it crashes just as soon as he gets to the start screen.  He did the same in all modes of security and restore last known good configuration.  I dug my CD and tried to do the Startup Repair.  He gets through loading files, but when it gets to the screen where you choose your language input method, etc., it freezes.  I can't even NumLock to switch on the keyboard, it seems to be completely hooked.  I think I installed SP2 and my CD is probably only SP1, so I think that may restrict some of my options.  Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the help.  I ended up out of the network card and could come out in safe mode, and then in normal mode.  Get that far, I plugged the card back and all was well again.  Not sure why she needed a time-out or why that hung near the top of Vista via the CD.

  • No office, no windows task manager Vista won't start

My computer blue projected earlier today. I restarted and it lets me put my password, but it took longer than usual to load. When it finally loaded everything that I had was a grey-white screen and my mouse pointer. I can't run it the future programme and when I try ctrl alt del, I see that the Task Manager is missing. I didn't have time to write the error code given by the blue screen because my computer auto closed after that he ended up dumping physical memory. I tried to start in safe mode and the safe mode with cmd prompt and it's always the same. What can I do to fix this?

    Hi sd_fubar,

Follow the instructions below that may help you resolve the issue.

Let us perform a startup repair that may help you resolve the issue.

Startup Repair is a Windows Vista recovery tool that can fix certain problems, such as system files missing or damaged that may prevent Windows from starting correctly. When you run the Startup Repair, it scans your computer for the problem and then tries to fix it so that your computer can start correctly.

  • my computer laptop presario won't start, the screen is black and a shrill alarm sounds when I turn it on

My laptop is a Presario F700 l PC, Vista operating system.

    Hi Mas_007,

Welcome to Microsoft Vista answers Forum!

I have a few here that might solve the problem.

A.) Firstly, I suggest that you start the computer in safe mode and check if you are able to boot without any problems, safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs do not run in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed that, follow these steps to start the computer in safe mode with networking:

To restart the computer using safe mode, restart the computer and press the F8 key for about four to five times. Appears in safe mode listed in the advanced options of Windows. Select Safe Mode, and then press ENTER.

    (B) I suggest that you perform a clean boot on your computer, to help troubleshoot error messages and other issues; You can start Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

The following link has steps showing how to perform the clean boot: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

    (1) perform the clean boot (check the link to perform the clean boot)

    (2) enable half the services

    (3) determine whether the problem returns

    (4) enable half of the startup items

    (5) determine if the problem returns

    (6) repeat the steps above until you find out which program or service is causing the issue

After you determine the startup item or the service that is causing the problem, contact the manufacturer of the program to determine if the problem can be solved. Or, run the System Configuration utility, and then click to clear the check box of the element of the problem.

Note: Please make sure that the computer is configured to start as usual by following step 7 of article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135.

(C.) I suggest that you perform a scan of the file system [SFC] checker on the computer, the scan replaces the failed system of files with the original files from version of Windows on the computer system, follow the steps below to perform a scan:

I suggest to empty the temp folder and later, follow these steps:

    i. Click Start > type % temp % in the start search box > press on enter > delete everything present in the temp folder.

    1. Click Start and type cmd in the box start the search.

    2. right click on cmd in the list programs and then click Run as administrator.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue

    3. at the command calls, the following line and press ENTER: sfc/scannow

When the analysis is complete, test to see if the problem you are experiencing is resolved.

    Additional information: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936212

    Hope this information is useful.
Let me know if it worked.
