vmfex vem esxi 5.1

I think that a new vib vem is necessary for use with esxi 5.1 - it would be in the new version of 2.0(4a)? I can't find any reference in the release notes...

Hello Naël,

VM - FEX in all ESXi 5 versions use the same driver (v132 - 4.2.1.1.4.1.0 - 3.0.4).  I have the updated interoperability matrix.

  • Script to check the version of Cisco VEM on ESXi host

    Hallo,

I need help, a script to check and report in a CSV file, the version of Cisco Nexus 1000v VEM on all ESXi hosts connected to a vCenter.

Basically, "vem version - v" but for all the ESXi hosts connected to a vCenter.

    Thank you

    Joseph

I suspect you could use PowerShell v1, in this version that the Export-Csv has not had the UseCulture parameter.

Try to run the script without this parameter.

But I would strongly suggest to upgrade your version of PowerShell (v3 is available)

  • Nexus 1000v - Question about VSM and VEM compatibility update

I am unable to find Cisco documentation on the backward compatibility of the MEC when you perform an upgrade of the VSM. I'm looking to improve the VSM of 4.2 (1) SV2(2.1a) to 5.2 (1) SV3 (1.15).

Hosts must be upgraded simultaneously, or they will continue to work with the current MEC? I prefer to leave guests as is and upgrade the MEC as a bundle with the host ESXi 6.0 upgrade to eliminate having two separate windows of failure for the guests.

    ESXi hosts all running 5.5 with VEM cisco-vem-v162-esx (4.2.1.2.2.1a.0 - 3.2.1).

Thanks for the help in advance!

    Greetings.

Click on the link below, you can enter your version of esxi, N1k version and versions of destination and will get a high level not list.

    http://www.Cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/TD/docs/website/Datacenter/nexus1000/upgrade/n1kvmatrix.html

You can go directly from the SV2(2.1a) to SV3 (1.15)

    VSM upgrade notes: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus1000/sw/5_2_1_s_v_3_1_15/install_upgrade/guide/b_Cisco_N1KV_VMware_Install_and_Upgrade_Guide_521SV3115/b_Cisco_N1KV_VMware_Install_and_Upgrade_Guide_521SV3115_chapter_010.html

Please make sure that you check the required CPU, vram, virtual disk space requirements BEFORE, you upgrade the VSM, as demands increase for SV3 versions.

After that the VSM is updated, your MEC will continue to operate at the older level, until you get updated MEC to level.  You usually don't want to change the major config will be running in this mixed level.

After the upgrade of the MEC, remember to update the level of functionality of vem, or features that now get discharged to the VSM VEM (netflow, igmp snooping, lacp, etc.) will be continued to be run on the VSM.

    Take a look at http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus1000/sw/5_2_1_s_v_3_1_15/install_upgrade/guide/b_Cisco_N1KV_VMware_Install_and_Upgrade_Guide_521SV3115/b_Cisco_N1KV_VMware_Install_and_Upgrade_Guide_521SV3115_chapter_0100.html

  • Upgrade to ESXi on NGC

    Hello

I have esxi4.1 installed on a few servers B200 M2, esxi has been installed with the cisco-ucs-esxi image.

the question is I want to upgrade to esxi5, what image should I use now? the normal esxi5 of vmware or cisco-UCS-esxi5 image?

IM upgrading to the formware ucs of 1.4 to 2.0 before that.

I loaded about 100 B200s with ESXi 5 and never used the standard ISO VMware. The B200s were VIC M81KR adapters.

To update to 4.1 I did only reconstructions. Many of them had the N1KV VEM and PowerPath VE so I thought it was the safest route.

  • Replacement of failing on Nexus 1000v VEM

I was curious how others accomplish the replacement of a failed ESXi host who is an on the Nexus 1000v VEM. I did this procedure once and it seemed endless. The goal is to make the swap of the transparent to the Nexus 1000v (VEM even #, just different VMware UUID)

-Transition to the standard vSwitches home

-Remove the switch distributed via vCenter host (host of right click and delete)

    -Swap physically on the chassis

-Find the UUID for new host (got esxcfg-info)

-Install new MEC in the 1000v with this UUID

-Host of replacement over 1000v that assumes the number of Vincent who was installed just to migrate

    Ben,

Note - 1000v in relationship issues are better posted in the «Server network» forum  This forum is specific to the UCS.

    https://supportforums.Cisco.com/community/NetPro/data-center/server-network?view=discussions

The procedure that you use is the right.  Another method is to remove the host of 1000v with elegance, then issue a 'no vem X"that removes the MEC does record from the MSM.  Exchange your hosts, then add back to the 1000v.  Is there a reason that you need the same UUID?

    Kind regards

  • Nexus 1000v VSM compatibility with older versions of VEM?

    Hello everyone.

I would like to upgrade our Nexus 1000v VSM 4.2 (1) SV1 (5.1) to 4.2 (1) SV2(2.1a) because we are heading of ESXi 5.0 update 3 to 5.5 ESXi in the near future. I was not able to find a list of compatibility for the new version when it comes to versions VEM, I was wondering if the new VSM supports older versions VEM, we are running, so I must not be upgraded all at once. I know that it supports two versions of our ESXi.

    Best regards

    Pete

You found documentation, transfer of the station from 1.5 to latest code is supported in a VSM perspective.  Which is not documented is the small one on the MEC.  In general, the VSM is backward compatible with the old VEM (to a degree, the degree of which is not published).  Although it is not documented (AFAIK), verbal comprehension is that MEC can be a version or two behind, but you should try to minimize the time that you run in this configuration.

If you plan to run mixed versions VEM when getting your upgraded hosts (totally fine that's how I do mine), it is better to move to this enhanced version of VEM as you upgrade the hypervisor.  Since you go ESXi 5.0 5.5, you create an ISO that contains the Cisco VIBs, your favorite driver async (if any), and the image of ESXi 5.5 all grouped together so the upgrade for a given host is all of a sudden.  You probably already have this cold technique, but the links generated by the Cisco tool below will show you how to proceed.  It also gives some URLS handy to share with each person performing functions on this upgrade.  Here is the link:

Nexus 1000V and ESX upgrade utility

PS - the new thing takes clones your VSMs offline.  Even if they are fairly easy to recover, having a real pure clone will save some sauce secret that otherwise you may lose in a failure scenario.  Just turn off a VSM, then right click and clone.  Turn on again this MSM and failover pair HA, then take to the bottom of it and get a clone of it.  So as a security measure, this upgrade, get your clones currently out of the current 1.5 VSMs, then some time after your upgrade some clones offline, saved from the new version.

  • ESXi 5 and Nexus 1000v

    Hello

I have an ESXi 5 but only NIC I am migrating the VSS for Nexus 1000v. I installed Nexus VEM correctly and do primary and secondary, VSMs configured uplink port groups all according to the guides from Cisco. When I try to add a host under the link, I have first to migrate the vnic0 for the Group of appropriate uplink ports and it then asks me to migrate the management port (I think it is vmk0) so if I create a group of ports on Nexus to migrate a management port or do not migrate at all I always lose connectivity to ESXi.

Can someone please share the configs of the Nexus 1000v and how to migrate properly vnic0 and vmk0 (with a single physical NETWORK adapter) so that I do not lose connectivity?

    Thanks in advacne.

control is vlan 152 and package is 153.

You can make same vlan. We have supported using the same vlan for the control and the package for several years now.

  • Sync ESXi 4.1 boot images

ESXi 4 boot images was unnecessary.

Often, if I have a hardware problem / GROUP, or a blockage on boot then ESXi will revert to the backup image.  This has a significant impact when executing the 1000v as the second image will not have installed MEC or it will have an older VEM.

Does anyone know how to synchronize the images of starting in good condition?

    Hi polysulfide,.

ESXi is supposed to save its configuration automatically every hour. You may want to use the script backup.sh - auto . Take a look at the following article.

    Good luck.

  • 1000v VSM cluster separated with no VEM?

I was reading some documentation Cisco Nexus 1000v and it seems best practices recommends against VSMs running on ESX host computers that have VEM manages. For example, the environment could be a cluster of ESX 4 nodes with two VSMs and each node has a MEC. If it's bad ju - ju, it seems that I have two main variants:

    (1) implement a cluster 2 ESX nodes that uses only standard vSwitches that host two VSMs. This group would have full network connectivity to the ESXi hosts that have the MEC and make full use of the functions of 1000v. All the other VMs production would go on the active cluster 1000v.

    (2) buy a pair of Cisco Nexus 1010 s, which would host the redundant VSMs.

If the VSM/VEM have addictive tightened on vCenter to work, then it would probably make sense to vCenter/SQL host and an ad server on the VSM 2 nodes cluster so that it is self-sufficient? Basically, 2 cluster nodes VSM is the control center for the management of your network and virtual machines, which manages the main primary production clusters virtual machines?

There is absolutely no problem with your VSM running on your cluster of production.  Do you really want to burn two hosts to host just your VSMs?  If your VMware infrastructure already devotes a cluster for the management of virtual machines and devices - this might make sense, otherwise let them run with the rest of your virtual machines.  VSMs come preprogrammed with reservation of CPU/memory so performance should not be a problem.

I've seen hundreds of clients running like this.  It was a configuration fully supported since version SV1.2.

About the Neuxs 1010, yes they are great, but only because they offer features such as Vietnam and other blades of service on the horizon.  I'd rather take the efficiency and mobility of a virtual Sup (VMotion), then having to devote two servers consume more power.

    Kind regards

  • VEM and VSM

Hi all, I have to install a Cisco ethernet on esxi v4.0updt2 module. I'm a little confused, because I did not understand what exactly the MEC and what exacly is VSM.

I understand that I must first install VEM, which is the cisco module, but because I have esxi, I wonder how without console (I use the hidden console?)

Then I can install VSM whis a device suitable for module monitor VEM cisco Nexus.

Do I understand correctly? How I can installed VEM on esxi? Thanks in advance.

VUM is the easiet way to install the MEC on ESX and ESXi. You can activate the shell in ESXi and hand-jam the MEC in ESXi, but it is much easier through the vSphere client. Simply right click on the vDS VSM, and then add the host. The MEC will then be installed. It's in the YouTube link, I sent you before.

Ensure the VUM has a download path and that path is enabled. The custom extension of 1000v path is http://hostupdate.vmware.com/software/VUMPRODUCTION/csco-main-index.xml.

  • STOR. ESXi and E BASICS

    I have this problem:
We use servers that are virtualized with ESXi Hypervisor.
And the Windows operating system uses the STOR. E BASICS 500 GB to backup their data.

Now a hard drive of this type felt, the hard drive is about 1 year ago.
So I want to swap the drive with one of the same only more recent type, but now ESXi does not realize it.

In a Windows operating system, the drive works fine, but ESXi, I have a chance!
Y at - it a new firmware or something differnet changed?

    Experiences?

The STOR. E BASICS 500 GB 2.5 "is the USB3.0 external HARD disk.
It s a device plug n - and - play, requiring no additional drivers.

Toshiba says that this HARD drive works properly under Microsoft Windows XP/Vista / Windows® 7 8/Windows/Windows 8.1

The HARD disk supports the USB3.0 standard, and this means that you must 900mA can get it recognised correctly.
In the case where the drive HARD isn't recognized on USB 2.0, I recommend you to use a USB cable to Y which allows to connect the HARD drive to two USB 2.0 ports

  • Mac OS x won't start on mac pro esxi host

We have the latest mac pro machine functioning as a construction of host 5.5.0 esxi 2718055.  We have setup the virtual Mac machine of the as a waiter in a magic triangle to our Mac OSX windows domain configuration.  Everything was up and running for some time now not really used because we delayed the purchase of our projected deployment Mac until this year.  I logged on today, and he says he has several updates and necessary to restart, so we issued the command reboot. Now the machine won't start upward.  It starts the boot process you see the Apple logo and progress bar starts moving on a 1/4 of the way and then it just turned off. I tried several of the commands below in the link, but nothing works, it just turns off. I tried to use my mac with vm ware fusion and the connection to the host and always change. I have triple checked that I am in the comments window active when you press these commands, but the problem is it only stays on during approximately 5 seconds then stops. I have removed from the inventory of esxi and re added, as well as restarted the ESXi host as well.  The virtual machine is sitting on the local storage of the esxi server.

    https://support.Apple.com/en-AU/HT201255

Has anyone else had a problem similar to this?  I'm getting to this section and the progress bar starts to go, but then stops and turns off virtual machine.  How can I enter in address this further.

Okay, so I went through the list and now I got using the command option r. tried before but maybe I press the keys long enough.  I was using my mac book pro and pro fusion to do all this. Couldn't make it work when you use the client heavy vsphere on my windows machine. Repair disk permissions is grayed out. I ran check disk permissions and got a ton of errors, ran check disk and he stopped saying repair the disk. Ran repair disk and he stopped to say that he cannot repair the disk, backup as many files as possible, reformat the drive and restore your backup files.

Is there another way to try to fix this sucker, or is he at this point a POS and build a new one?
