1000v VSM cluster separated with no VEM?

I was reading some documentation Cisco Nexus 1000v and it seems best practices recommends against VSMs running on ESX host computers that have VEM manages. For example, the environment could be a cluster of ESX 4 nodes with two VSMs and each node has a MEC. If it's bad ju - ju, it seems that I have two main variants:

(1) implement a cluster 2 ESX nodes that uses only standard vSwitches that host two VSMs. This group would have full network connectivity to the ESXi hosts that have the MEC and make full use of the functions of 1000v. All the other VMs production would go on the active cluster 1000v.

(2) buy a pair of Cisco Nexus 1010 s, which would host the redundant VSMs.

If the VSM/VEM have addictive tightened on vCenter to work, then it would probably make sense to vCenter/SQL host and an ad server on the VSM 2 nodes cluster so that it is self-sufficient? Basically, 2 cluster nodes VSM is the control center for the management of your network and virtual machines, which manages the main primary production clusters virtual machines?

There is absolutely no problem with your VSM running on your cluster of production.  Do you really want to burn two hosts to host just your VSMs?  If your VMware infrastructure already devotes a cluster for the management of virtual machines and devices - this might make sense, otherwise let them run with the rest of your virtual machines.  VSMs come preprogrammed with reservation of CPU/memory so performance should not be a problem.

I've seen hundreds of clients running like this.  It was a configuration fully supported since version SV1.2.

About the Neuxs 1010, yes they are great, but only because they offer features such as Vietnam and other blades of service on the horizon.  I'd rather take the efficiency and mobility of a virtual Sup (VMotion), then having to devote two servers consume more power.

Kind regards

Robert

  • Nexus 1000v VSM compatibility with older versions of VEM?

    Hello everyone.

    I would like to upgrade our Nexus 1000v VSM 4.2 (1) SV1 (5.1) to 4.2 (1) SV2(2.1a) because we are heading of ESXi 5.0 update 3 to 5.5 ESXi in the near future. I was not able to find a list of compatibility for the new version when it comes to versions VEM, I was wondering if the new VSM supports older versions VEM, we are running, so I must not be upgraded all at once. I know that it supports two versions of our ESXi.

    Best regards

    Pete

    You found documentation, transfer of the station from 1.5 to latest code is supported in a VSM perspective.  Which is not documented is the small one on the MEC.  In general, the VSM is backward compatible with the old VEM (to a degree, the degree of which is not published).  Although it is not documented (AFAIK), verbal comprehension is that MEC can be a version or two behind, but you should try to minimize the time that you run in this configuration.

    If you plan to run mixed versions VEM when getting your upgraded hosts (totally fine that's how I do mine), it is better to move to this enhanced version of VEM as you upgrade the hypervisor.  Since you go ESXi 5.0 5.5, you create an ISO that contains the Cisco VIBs, your favorite driver async (if any), and the image of ESXi 5.5 all grouped together so the upgrade for a given host is all of a sudden.  You probably already have this cold technique, but the links generated by the Cisco tool below will show you how to proceed.  It also gives some URLS handy to share with each person performing functions on this upgrade.  Here is the link:

    Nexus 1000V and ESX upgrade utility

    PS - the new thing takes clones your VSMs offline.  Even if they are fairly easy to recover, having a real pure clone will save some sauce secret that otherwise you may lose in a failure scenario.  Just turn off a VSM, then right click and clone.  Turn on again this MSM and failover pair HA, then take to the bottom of it and get a clone of it.  So as a security measure, this upgrade, get your clones currently out of the current 1.5 VSMs, then some time after your upgrade some clones offline, saved from the new version.

  • 1000V VSM lossing contact VEM after vMotion

    Hello

    We have installed 1000v VSMs as virtual machines on a Server Blade HP virtual connect modules.

    This worked well and we migrated most of the VMS to 1000v. Same HA between the primary and backup VSMs worked.

    Now, we see that if you live migrate the active MSM is loses all contact with the MEC, but backup VSM is supported unless you turn off an asset, the same thing happens when clients trend Deep Security Manager did some update to the VSM VM.

    We have the 1000v deployed in L3 mode with the help of control interface and the MEC have their own vmkernel IP address, which in this case is on the same IP subnet as the VSM control interface.

    Yes, the problem is that any port-profile with "l3control of ability" is supposed to only works with the vmk interfaces.

    You want to put a VM interface on port-profile with l3control. We used to allow this, but for some reason any, he was shot.

    Create another port-profile just for control 0 and see if that fixes the problem. Yet once make identical except for the "l3control ability.

    Your version is good. I'll have to play in my lab. I'm kind of confused why your VSM2 gets blocked while quick loading when you vmotion VSM1. That shouldn't happen now.

    My new Apple Watch has a problem with iMessage and I know how to fix this on my iPhone but not watch?

    On my iPhone, that my ID apple is connected to more than 10 devices and sometimes when a new device is added, it adds the addresses on my apple for iMessage and FaceTime ID and I always fix by unchecking the addresses that I don't want in the application settings under "Messages" and "FaceTime." However, this isn't the same thing to watch because there is no option in the settings on the Apple Watch and the watch App on my iPhone.

    I would like to help please?

    Hello

    Apple Watch uses the same parameters (for how you can be reached and how new conversations are started) for Messages as your iPhone.

    If you have two interviews separated with the same person, the following steps may help:

    • On your iPhone, check if there is more than one contact form in Contacts of this person (if so, remove duplicates).
    • Delete old Messages conversations with this contact on each of your iPhone and watch:
      • iPhone: app Messages > swipe to the left on a message thread > delete.
      • View: Open the Messages app (from the home screen, which is accessible by pressing the digital Crown) > swipe to the left on a message thread > tap on Trash / delete.
    • On your iPhone in the app Watch: Watch My > general > reset > press reset sync data:
      • You won't see anything happen after pressing it (the process runs in the background, invisible to the user).
      • Leave a minute or two to allow the course ends.
    • Restart your iPhone and your watch (turn the two together off the coast, then restart your iPhone first):

  • How to associate cluster esx with the data report store

    Hi all

    I'm running a repore that displays data stores less than 50 free concerts. The storage team would like a coloum for esx clusters associated with the LUN. I can't see to find it and what is possible.

    Thanks in advance,

    Scott.

    I would create a WCF function, script type, with a timeRange parameter and a new data store VMWDatastore context parameter, required, not a list.  Set the output in common: string.

    Add the following script:

    QS = server. QueryService

    Query = "!" "VMWCluster where esxServers.datastores.uniqueId = ' ${datastore.uniqueId}"

    cluster = server. QueryService.queryTopologyObjects (query)

    clusterNames = clusters? collect {cluster-> cluster?. name}?. Join(', ')

    return clusterNames

    You can then use this in your report, feeding the entrance of context for the current row data store.

  • Cisco unity conn cluster integration with cucm cluster best practices

    Hi all

    I'm trying to integrate a cucm with a cluster of cuc 9.1 9.1 cluster. Some confusing points that I hope can be clarified.

    for cucm

    1. I created a voicemail with 48 ports server that will satisfy both servers of cuc

    for cuc

    I created a phone with two groups of ports system.

    two point of Group on the same server port voicemail prefix but different servers cuc. each pg also has a different sequence of the tftp servers.

    the problem with this design is that voice on the cucm ports not recorded with the port group that is configured to point to the cucsub. port groups cucpub point fits very well.

    Is how to configure the integration of a cluster of cuc. I saw the guides but it is more oriented towards stand-alone configurations.

    Help please!

    The SRND for CXN stipulates that all calls should be directed to the Subscriber with the Publisher handling overflow beyond the capabilities of the Subscriber and/or failover when the Subscriber is offline. They should not be balanced alternating.

    You can create two servers of voicemail with the wizard and give them separate device classes if you need to register for the various nodes of CCM.

    PS - You can also avoid this mess of all of the port on CUCM by integrating on SIP instead of SCCPS. In this case, you still have the CXN ports but they are only logical entities; CUCM has just a SIP trunk to each node. There is a separate for this integration guide.

  • Move cluster configured with replication SRM and Vsphere

    All,

    We go 2 groups in the near future to achieve a geographical distance between the 2 sites.

    A cluster is equipped with VMware 5.0 replication SRM and vSphere and the other cluster running VMware 5.5 and SRM in combination with replication of vSphere.

    What is the best way to move these clusters, I must stop the replication or interrupt the replication process and are these action to perform on SRM or we need to perform any action on the virtual machine itself?

    I read that a stop is setting the State to not configured including destroy all files in the target directory.

  • Can rotate us items separated with one click (Jquery)

    Hi guys,.

    I am trying to create an interactive dial. It contains three layers. Ideally, I'd like that the end user to be able to drag each layer separated from the dial and turns each separate to 60 degrees on each drag element.

    Otherwise, I wish that each separate element (the different layers in gray below), once clicked, to rotate 60 degrees.

    So far, I've been able to turn each element on a click once, but I'm unable to solve how to make that happen again and again with every click.

    Here is my code in step:

    (function ($) {}

    $. fn.rotate = function (degree, maxDegree) {}

    //...

    };

    (} (jQuery)); <-call

    Here is my code element:

    SYM. $(«_2dial») .animate ({'down': "60px banner"},)

    {

    Duration: 2000,

    step: function (now, fx) {}

    SYM. $("_2dial") .css ({"-moz-transform": "rotate("+now+"deg)", "})

    ' - webkit-transform ":"rotate("+now+"deg) ",

    "- ms-transform": "rotate("+now+"deg)",

    ' "- o - transform":"rotate("+now+"deg)"}); "

    }

    (}, 'linear');

    My file can be downloaded here:

    Hello

    I posted an example of dragging a wheel and snap the ends directed to the bottom of the page in the link below. It is 2 years old, but the calculation has not changed since then. I also highly recommend using GSAP for any animation based on the code, rather than jQuery animate. You can download GSAP here: GreenSock | GSAP. And you can import the code of the script of Edge panel. If you master the GSAP library, your life will change for the better!

    Rub a wheel and turning a pot with edge animate!

    Example:

    http://www.timjaramillo.com/code/edge/drag_rotate/test.html

    Source:

    www.timjaramillo.com/code/Edge/_source/drag_rotate_wheel.zip

    About the rotation-click does not, I would start by moving all the functional code to the Stage.compositionReady event (instead of keep this code on each dial. Reason being that each click event, your values are to be replaced. In my sample pseudo-device code below, when you click on a dial, you call a 'rotateDial1', 'rotateDial2' func (create a function for each dial), etc., that you would create in the event Stage.compositionReady. This function would be track/game to your var of rotation for each wheel.

    Pseudo code:

    Add to Stage.compositionReady event-

    var _dialRotationAmount = 60; / / angle you want to rotate on every click

    var _rotationDial1 = 60; / / rotation track for call 1. Create a variable for each of your dials

    called on the click event of the dial 1. Making a function for each of your dials, change the values inside the function to match your dial #.

    sym.rotateDial1 = function() {}

    Add to the rotation value

    _rotationDial1 += _dialRotationAmount;

    Rotate the dial

    var _dial1Symbol = sym.$("_1dial");

    TweenMax.to (_dial1Symbol, 1, {rotation: _rotationDial1, ease:Power1.easeOut});})

    }

  • Cluster SOA with BigIP as HTTPFrontEnd - deployed WSDL and XSD composite files are not accessible

    Hello

    In our SOA environment, we have an architecture like that.

    We have a Cluster with two nodes of SOA. Each node is to have an OHS. There's a BIGIP which is the HTTP of SOA Cluster interface.

    BIG IP load balancing and HTTP Port 80 and HTTPS 443 port.

    All access to BIGIP is over HTTPS. With HTTP, we are not able to access the artifacts.

    Here, we are faced with a problem.

    All WSDL, XSD, deployed on the server files have as - ends http://bigiphost:80 / soainfra / .....

    These end points are not accessible, and we have to manually convert URLS to https://bigiphost:443 / soainfra / ... for testing.

    Main question is coming when we're trying to raise our composites to RJO. Because the WSDL and XSD files is seen port http endpoints and they are not accessible from the harvester tool. Where a failure.

    Can you please how do ensure that all composite end point and endpoint WSDL are generated as Https://bigiphost:443 instead of HTTP Port.

    I tried two options

    (a) setting serverURL to https://bigiphost:443

    This option modifies all the endpoints and the localities of XSD in a wsdl to the https address document. but it does not composite point endpoint and endpoint WSDL. They are still Http. so not accessible through harvester or browser.

    (b) setting HttpsServerURL to https://bigiphost:443

    It makes a difference.

    Please suggest how can I convert a composite and endpoint WSDL (protocol header) end point to https://bigipport:443 instead of http:bigipport:80

    Thank you

    Jessyca

    Finally got the fix.

    Changed the HTTPServerURL property in the EM Console > SOA-INFRA > SOA Administration > common properties > more advanced properties

    Https://bigipport:443the value HTTPServerURL.

    This helped and all the endpoints and composite WSDL endpoints have been generated with https://bigipport:443 instead of http.

    So overall, I used two properties.

    (a) a HTTPServerURL - change the endpoint WSDL and the composite end.

    (b) ServerURL - change endpoints in the wsdl file with the value set in the present.

    Thank you

  • Cluster MS with VMFS - why only Cluster in a box of decision-making support?

    Hi all

    Ive been reviewing the KB of Microsoft Clustering on Vmware here: -.

    http://KB.VMware.com/kb/1037959

    https://www.VMware.com/PDF/vSphere4/R41/vsp_41_mscs.PDF

    And noted that VMFS is taken in charge for shared storage, but only clustered in a box configuration, so that the two nodes of the cluster are on the same physical ESX host.  Anyone know why this limitation is in place?

    Why can I not have a VM on different ESX host?

    See you soon

    Stewart

    It has to do with the fact that two ESX / / ESXi hosts cannot access a VMDK at the same time - that of why a Cluster across Boxes can use a VMFS fo the VMDK quorum data store and data shared VMDK.

  • migrate to esxi free host in the cluster paid with minimal downtime

    Please excuse my ignorance, I am very new to VMware and I am familiar with the concepts of other virtualization software, I used, but not some of the termininology, and maybe that's why my research are not turning to the top of what I need.

    We had been using the free esxi hypervisor based to host some server hosts.  These servers are running a copy of our database and are used for reporting applications.  They are also setup with files VMDK provisioned very large and thick (> 300 GB!).  They were spread great for a year now.  However, we just bought the VMWare "vSphere 4 Essentials Plus" kit for the creation of a cluster of 3 machine, with a few redunancy and other features we wanted.  We also have a new san to go with it.  We are very pleased with the product and move to her!

    On the other invited VM running on this host, (and several other hosts, its amazing to see how they arise) I stop the virtual machine and the vCenter Converter allows you to migrate the virtual computer to the new cluster.  At the same time, I would like to convert it to the thickness of a provisioning. However, because these clients have very, very big thickness provisioned HD, its research as they would take five hours or more to migrate. (other VM moved to essentially 1 GB/min)  These report servers can go without updates the master DB for several hours, but servers should always be available. I can't have them down for 5 hours. There are a lot of historical reports are refreshed by the end users.

    Is it possible for me to do what follows somehow? I can't understand:

    • disable the DB update
    • closing comments, take a quick snapshot and then launch the guest.
    • While his copy running (and not updated) main and VMDK files file to the cluster (therefore only changes to files in the snapshot file)
    • on the new cluster, once copied (or during the copy) convert the VMDK to a thin provisioned (given that only about 85 GB of data is used in fact to this topic).
    • Finally, bring up new comments on the cluster at the same time I get comments on the old host (and ignore the changes that have taken place on the snapshot file, since its mainly a readonly report server)? and re - activate the DB update.

    For end users who would be about 5 minutes total of downtime (basically, two reboots) which would be much easier to deal with than the 5 hours (each!) of how we are past other virtual machines would.

    If the stand-alone host has the same type of CPU and family, you will be able to add it to the cluster otherwise just add to vCenter. You will always have access to other features.

  • Cluster marked with a warning icon

    vCenter is down my main kernel with the small triangle yellow/exclemation point icon usually associated with the warnings of the alarm.  However, I'm unable to find any warnings or alarms active on any of my guests or guests.

    I suspect that it is declining because I've no connections redundant management throughout the cluster.  (Host xxxxxxx currently has no redundancy management network).  Due to the nature of the environment, I had not planned redundancy for these connections - but it wouldn't be impossible to configure.

    Does anyone know if the management connections non-reduntant is enough to trigger an alert to the cluster level?

    If so, double adapters would be swarmed together (but only a single IP address) be enough to eliminate the warning?  Would be two IP / VLAN on an adapter be enough?  Or do I really two IP on two separate maps.

    If it is not likely to be the origin of the warning, if not where should I look?

    Thank you

    -Ken

    If you click on the cluster and select the Summary tab it does not show you the reason of this warning? I also think because the redundant network - and, Yes, a secondary NETWORK card team with one should eliminate the alarm.

  • P2V microsoft cluster (file) with shared PV220s (SCSi) storage

    Hi guys

    I'm quite new in the VMWARE world. So please forgive my ignorance. If it's my third message in the last 2 days.

    Scenario: basically, we have a MS cluster running on two windows (our file server) server that is attached to the DELL PV220s matrix raid (scsi) with 11 drive running raid 5 config... Now it of almost complete @ 1 TB and also will be out of warranty soon.

    We want to virtualize these two servers (essentially the cluster), and then move all the data to the DELL EQUAlLOgic SAN we have on our site as well.

    Now, I've read that MS Clusters are supported in Update1 of VMware 3.5.

    So, how is it less setting this up. What I've read so this option seems like the next three - provide details of them my knowledge in VMware/SAN is very limited at present, but in the hope of picking up very soon.

    1 P2V cluster as it is

    2 break the cluster, then P2v each.

    3. create a new node 3 in VMware. (how we should go on the PV220s San data movement) - we should create a new volume-LUN of the SAN?

    I read that the signatures of discs cause problems etc..

    Please discuss your experiences and your thoughts on P2V ING a MS cluster.

    I'll be very be very thankful to you guys if you can answer because it will speed up our project.

    Hello

    Moved to the forum of the Virtual Machine and the guest operating system.

    Read http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_35/esx_3/vi3_35_25_u1_mscs.pdf very very carefully before you P2V a cluster, there are things you need to do to create the virtual hardware correctly. If it were me, I would not use P2V but fresh start installs correctly configured virtual hardware.
