VMFS and VMDK compatibility

Hello

I have a number of ESX 3.0.2 - Update1 host I do fresh installs of ESXi 4.1 on. The 3.0.2 hosts are connected to the external storage where is stored the VM and data warehouses. ESXi 4.1 is compatible with the version in the format/VMFS and VMDK/version of the format of the existing data? Guests of ESXi 4.1 will be able to set up warehouses of data and power ok the virtual machine?

George.

There are two things to look at. The first is the version of the VMFS file system, which is - as you say - 3.21 VMFS, so it's ok. The second is version of virtual equipment of the virtual machine, which must be at least 4. (see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003746) With ESX 3.02, this should be the case.

    Hello community,

    We are studying now "Zero detect' function on IBM SVC Thin provisioning.

    SVC Thin provisioning Volume is unable to note removal of file on VMFS, so we need a way to fill blocks, we don't use on VMFS with zero.

    Can we apply "vmkfstools w" command to VMFS?

    We know that this command is vmdk, so that we can create or translate vmdk format to another.

    but we do not know that this order may apply to VMFS or not.

    We managed to run this command for vmdk(/vmfs/volumes/xxx/xxx.vmdk) and cannot run a VMFS (/ vmfs/volumes/xxx) on our environment.

    Anyone know this specification?

    afalk, vmkfstools you can only ask vmdk only.

  • Microsoft enhanced Point and print compatibility driver printer driver is not installed on this computer

    We are running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit (using VMware View 6.1) virtual work stations and the connection of users to a printer Xerox 4 Type driver/file being hosted on a Windows R2 server in 2012. The driver on the server is listed as "Xerox WorkCentre 7970 V4 PCL6" and when the user of Windows 7 connects the driver appears as "Microsoft enhanced driver compatibility point and print. In the "Print Management" client Win7, it appears as the 6.3.9600.17415 version

    The Printer works fine during their Windows session, they disconnect you and when they connect in the print queue is still there but when you right click and go to "Printer properties", he throws the following error

    "The printer driver ' improved point and print compatibility Microsoft driver" is not installed on this computer. " Some printer properties will be unavailable, unless you install the printer driver. You want to install the driver now? »

    Deleting the queue and then add it again resolves the problem for Windows session, you're.

    Note: we use Persona management of VMware to save data from the user profile of the disconnections from the virtual offices are non-persistent. I've been able to reproduce this in Windows 7 using a virtual office, I can't reproduce it on my physical Windows 7 machine.

    We get around this by using Group Policy and a vbs script to delete the queue on logoff, then another script to add back on logon, but it's just a band-aid.

    In addition, a Type 3 driver works fine in all of disconnections but we need the Type 4 driver in this case.

  • ESXi 5.5, 5 VMFS datastore / vmdk size question

    Trying to check that I understand the vmdk for esxi 5.5 size limitation.

    If I have a VMFS 5 existing on my 5.0 esxi hosts, data store once I update my hosts to esxi 5.5 that I would then be able to have vm with vmdk is greater than 2 TB?

    I don't have to create new warehouses of data VMFS 5 after the upgrade to esxi5.5 take advanrage of the change in file size limit?

    Thanks for any help.

    That's right, at least in part. In addition to the upgrade of the host, you must also upgrade the hardware version of the virtual machine (Compatibility Mode) to take advantage of larger virtual disks (up to ~ to 62). However, always keep in mind the time needed to restore the virtual disk together where this is necessary. With 1 Gbps - assuming that you have the full available bandwidth - 2 TB will require more than 5 hours already! Then maybe organize the data in several virtual disks may be a better solution.

    Hi VMware experts.

    You need help to solve a problem.

    I sda.vmdk the file next to the vmdk descriptor and the sda flat, the hard file

    Disk DescriptorFile

    version = 1

    Encoding = 'UTF-8 '.

    CID = 1eed866e

    parentCID = ffffffff

    isNativeSnapshot = 'no '.

    ddb.longContentID = "4270b56ea10a34306eb588651eed866e".

    ddb.virtualHWVersion = '8 '.

    The sda-apartment has two partitions linux below

    Sda - flat hard disk: 0 MB, 0 bytes

    Heads of 34, 61 sectors/track, 0 cylinders

    Units = cylinders of 2074 * 512 = 1061888 bytes

    SDA - flat .vmdk1 * 3 1011 1046333 83 Linux

    SDA - flat .vmdk4 1 2 2043 83 Linux

    Partition table entries are not in the order of disc

    Can you please how can I resize this disc. Also, I'm confused about the disparity between the hard disk geometry information in the descriptor vmdk file and the output of the fdisk.

    Concerns

    Ivan

    I always used to gparted to expand the vdisk, I don't think that you can recreate the partition as it already of the filesystems on it.  You will have to destroy the current partition and recreate if necessary.  Be very careful because this could result in loss of data.

    Is there a reason you want to recreate rather than simply extend your existing partition?

    How is it that a laptop that isn't so old or so cheap does not have to be compatible with Windows 10?

    Concerning

    How is it that a laptop that isn't so old or so cheap does not have to be compatible with Windows 10?

    I guess that in this forum from a user to anyone will be able to answer this question, but from my point of view of a few each notebook / computer manufacturer must decide which models would get additional software support...
    Toshiba released still many laptop models in a short period of time, and in my opinion that it is not easy to provide support for all series laptop... so somewhere it is necessary to make a clear cut...

    But you can still install Windows 10 laptop and I am sure that the system will work perfectly, but probably some portable devices is not available due to lack of software...

  • Satellite Pro L10 and Vista compatibility

    Hi all.

    Being a 3rd year computer science student I feel like I should be able to answer this myself, but since this is a laptop and not a desktop computer, I'm stumped.

    I'm looking to upgrade to Windows Vista when it launches and I ran the compatibility for her Wizard and its lifting to the top a major - the graphics card. Now, I know that it is not possible to switch from a graphics card on a computer laptop because its actually on the motherboard itself, but it says that my Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller has 64 MB of memory and requires 128 mb.

    So here's my question - is - a can move the memory associated / assigned to this card?

    In addition, he said that it must have the support of 32 bit / pixel which once again is not my card. An update of the driver would help or should I resign myself to the fact that Windows Vista won't be compatible with my laptop.

    Bravo guys,.

    Scott

    Hello

    The fact is that this card was delivered with a 64 MB shared memory graphics card.
    This is a maximum value of the memory that the card can manage.
    I wonder every day on the question about Windows Vista and compatibility issues. The fact is that Windows Vista is not official on the market.
    I'm sure that Toshiba will support the Vista in the future, but right now, there is no drivers Toshiba for this OS.

  • Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Racing Wheel - Vista and Win7 compatibility

    I just bought a good condition Sidewinder Precision Racing Wheel from eBay. I didn't know he was as old as it is and I wanted to know if drivers exist that will offer all the features for the wheel. I saw messages in various forums of 2007 saying that no driver is for Vista which will offer all the features. Posts here I have a problem with the default Vista driver who has the throttle to 100% all the time - is not ideal.

    Having just bought a Dell computer with a free upgrade to Win7, I just saw this

    say that this material is taken in charge, but when you follow the link to the software in is not what needs to be downloaded. It say that it is supported under Win7 makes me hope that driver for Vista situation has been resolved, but I see no mention of those on the web.
