  I use a network SAN OpenFiler as a VMWare Datastore.  The current size of the data store was 1 TB and I decided to increase the size of the LUN via OpenFiler to 2 TB.  However, this increase in the logic unit number size is not reflected in the VMWare Datastore and I cannot increase (extend) the size of the existing data store.  I seem to be affected by the same problem as described here:

  Any ideas on how to increase the size of the data store in ESXi?

  Then, it might be a problem of presentation. try not represented this LUN from the storage host and re group - present.

  Ensure that the data store is dismounted and detached from everything first.

  Hi all

  I have a problem with the CF 1 logical unit number which can be seen as a device through several paths on all 10 hosts in a cluster, but it appear as a data store VMFS on 6 of the hosts. Other LUNS of the same Bay appear correctly on all hosts. 10 guests see the LUN with the same LUN ID and all hosts are identical regarding the version of ESXi (5.0 Update 2), HBA and firmware models.

  On the 4 hosts who can see the device but not the VMFS data store, it seems that he sees the LUN as a snapshot: 'list of snapshot storage vmfs esxcli' translates into:

  The UUID VMFS above matches the UUID VMFS seen on 6 guests who can see the VMFS data store.

  When I try to use 'Add storage', the device appears with a lambel VMFS: LUN101_SAS2(head). I don't know why (head) was added to the label of VMFS. Oscreen n the following signature to keep 'existing' and "Assign a new signature" options are grayed out. The only option is "Disc Format. I need to keep the existing signature because it run virtual machines that have their files .vmx and hard on this LUN.

  Would the fact that I have virtual machines running on this LUN, I cannot choose the option to "keep the existing signature?

  I need to Storage vMotion these virtual machines to a different LUN before I add the VMFS datastore to 4 guests?

  I have a virtual machine with two partitions. Partition for the system (IDE) and (SCSI) partition for data. The partition of SCSI has there own underlying the LUN on a storage. LUN capacity was 50 GB where the VMFS data store uses almost the full ability of LUN (49, 75GB). So I developed the LUN on the storage of 60 GB and now I want to extend the data on this LUN VMFS store and add a few more GB. But although I can see the raw capacity (60 GB) of the LUN in storage/properties for this VMFS datastore I can't expad the datastore to VMFS himself. When I click on expand I get no device/LUN to use.

  Any suggestions?

  It's exactly what I got. When you log on to an ESXi host (using the vSphere Client and the root user), you will have the same storage Wizard dialog box as in the screen shot you posted before. After logging in, go to 'Configuration'-> 'Storage', select the datatstore VMFS, you want to develop and run the wizard.

  It contains a logical example creating VMFS data warehouses, you should be able to adopt it for specific volumes.

  Can someone explain to me why the general rule concerning the number of clones linked by VMFS datastore is supposed to be 90, safer at 60? (39:00 in the video)

  My VMFS data store can handle more IO wise and wise, so why would I limit this number of storage? Numbers wise, I can run 120 VM out of a 2 400 GB data store.

  Here are estimates based on the data accumulated on the ground.  If you can get a larger number, it's fine.  These figures will be based on the IOPS / s, its use for the end user, locking, back-end storage, etc.  Basically the storage i/o profile of the entire group of the Active Desktop disk activity goes beyond what the back-end data store is able to provide.  If there is no offset in a desktop experience virtual because the affirmation of storage, revealed by tests or the use of your actual deployment, the number of clones linked by the data store can be merit to be studied.  For starters, these figures are given for the initial orientation.

  The reason is that the data store is not presented to all hosts in a cluster. When you create the VM in vCenter Server, only warehouses of data visible to the host on which the virtual machine is created are displayed.

  Make sure the presentation on your storage system is correct and rescan your hosts.

  To check the above, take a look at the Configuration-> Storage for guests.

• Mounting volume VMFS datastore on Centos/Redhat?

  I have a SAN and a LUN is the VMWare data store.  The SAN is taking snapshots of each volume, and I can export a snapshot as a volume to be mounted on another machine.  I did this and mapped the snapshot to another host (running Centos 5) and I reread the bus and it showed up as/dev/sde, and when I ran "parted/dev/sde" volume was there, but I don't know how to ride this ONE because I don't know what type of file system.  I guess that's vmfs or something like that, but I don't know how to get on Centos.

  What I try to do ultimately is to copy files hard etc. from one host to another for purposes of backup - it's a long story, but wants someone on a DVD.  I could download it to my computer through the VI client, but it is a picture of 100 GB and my connection is not the greatest, plus I don't have 100 GB of space on this machine.  I tried to SCPing files hard directly from the ESX host to another host of the data center and I had a lot of mistakes ' device or resource busy ".  I guess it would work if I stop the virtual machine, but I don't do that on all of the time it takes to transfer the file.

  A virtual machine can run if you make a snapshot first, your 'scp' and then commit the snapshot. Don't forget the validation like this can be a serious issue on the line.

  First, string vs enum debate is probably the version of LabVIEW vim vs emacs. There are good arguments on both sides, and I doubt that there is always a "winner".

  A brief summary of our reasoning for the current state of the project examples:

  1. We used enums for the state machine because it is self-contained. A state machine will never tell himself to enter a State, he does not know. Knowing (as the programmer) all possible States with the help of an enum allows you to enlist the compiler in order to help us avoid mistakes to change the time (because you can't quite out an enum and LabVIEW can be said if you are not covering all cases to a structure of the case, etc..).

     Enums provide greater protection and rigidity by ensuring all withdrew at the time of publishing. This is often the 'default' recommendation that we do.

  2. We used strings for messages in queue manager because the producer of message and the message handler could be independent processes that are reused or traded. Channels avoid the need for the compiler to be able to connect the orders and push this responsibility to the programmer. This allows you to develop some sub-components independently as long as you agree to a series of channel commands that you can manage - you need not to share a file 'messages.ctl' or 'states.ctl '. It is conceivable a loop of message management a message it does not, how you can decide to either silently ignore it or will trigger an error (as we do in the model). The strings make it also easier if you want to swap the queues of LabVIEW outside by a TCP implementation for network vacilitate or intra-Processuse communication where the other end may or may not be written in LabVIEW.

We know that we can not design for each situation there - our goal is to get useful models against new users to make them aware of what well thought LabVIEW programs are similar to experienced users know their applications better and I hope they do not hesitate to change what we provide or create their own designs, when they feel it's necessary. (On a side note, please share what you come up with - a community of experts sharing models would be really useful to us all LabVIEW users).

  Hi Bruno.

  I'm not sure what you mean with single Liaison Bulletin Board.  I guess you mean a cluster or the MP configuration?  And is it really a clustered or just a single machine of the MP configuration?

  About the configuration, you use Tuxedo services as well or just Tuxedo Message Queue?  The biggest problem with the configuration of the BONE is the IPC resources.  If you do a-c tmloadcf on your UBBCONFIG file, it will help you to determine the required minimum IPC resources.  In general, I suggest configuration much more resources than the minimum to allow for the changes to come and for some of the parameters for heavier loads.  In particular IPC message queue settings are strongly dependent on the load.  So make sure that the maximum message size and the size of the queue are big enough for your expected workload.  You can monitor the slot load using the ipcs command.

  We don't certify virtual machine environment, but support also a long time the VM vendor to ensure compatibility, obviously VMware and Oracle VM who both do.
