VMK-VMNIC relationship

Hi guys,.

I know VMK is a virtual interface to core services and VMNIC means the physical interface of ESXi.

I did it under configuration and then I confused:

  1. Configure the new server esxi, select 1st physical interface as a management interface (192.168.1.1)
  2. Configure vcenter and test virtual machines using VSS (192.168.1.x subent)
  3. Migrating from VSS for VDS
  4. VMK0 ip is 192.168.1.1 and VMNIC0 seems to get an IP address from my DHCP server.

I want to know why it happened and if this is correct behavior.

Thank you!

Any physical interface (vmnic) that you select, the IP address is assigned to port VMkernel (vmk). Vmnic are essentially uplinks to the vSwitch only to the physical (s) switch. Think of it as connecting two physical switches. You would not assign addresses IP interconnections, wouldn't you?

  • ESX 4.0 - how can you tell what physical NIC vswif is linked to?

    Hi all

Noobie question here, but how can you tell what NIC card connected to the service console? We have ESX server with 6 NIC cards on all of them and I need to be able to say what NIC is the service console. I googled my brains but no luck. esxcfg-vswitch - l does not show what NIC is on, because, I guess, we lack vCenter.

  • Binding VMK to vDS portgroup

    Hi guys,.

I try to add iSCSI to ESXi storage. It's on vCenter 6 device and ESXi hosts that have been upgraded to ESXi 5.5 6.  I have created 2 Exchange iSCSI in a vDS, the vSS vmk migrated vDS (it was on a different set of physical NIC in vSS). Configured the 1:1 relationship between vmk and physical NIC but I don't see the vmk trying to link it to a storage card. What I'm missing here. I've done this many times before, so I'm sure I did it correctly. I also checked using esxcli, if there is anything related to the vmhab - nothing. When I try to link the vmhba, interestingly I see the physical NETWORK card that was previously attached to the vmk. I think that there is a link between the vmk and the NIC physical. If so, how do I remove the link to it?

    Update *.

If I move the vSS or vDS vmk who has the old physical NIC, I'm able to bind the vmk to vmhba. So, it seems like there is a connection between the vmk and the NIC physical. Someone knows how to remove the link to them?

    SOLVED!

Simply put a note that I managed to solve this problem. It may be useful to someone. There was a configuration error in the NPAR configuration in the BIOS of the host. Even if I had changed the NPAR to accept unloading iSCSI on network cards, it has not been applied. I had to change to new NPAR and thereafter, I managed to connect iSCSI vmk.

  • Ports vmk NFS considerations when you move a host of distributed 1 switch to another

Hi everyone, I wonder if you can help with the following...

I currently have a number of ESX host that accompany the dvswitch0 for connectivity management and NFS.  VM networks has already been migrated to new dvswitch. The following assumptions are correct?

I need to remove a vmnic from the current dVS, so that I can create a standard vswitch and migrate vmk0 (network management) to it before removing the host of dvswitch0?

When I did it and I delete the host of dvSwitch0, I lose connectivity for my NFS vmk? Or will they continue to work as I have the info ip configured locally on the ESXi host? I've recreated the PG for NFS on the new dvswitch bearing the same name and config like dvswitch that I want to spend

If the connection is lost, I guess I need to migrate a vswitch standard before removing the vDS, identical to my management network of my NFS vmk. And then migrate them all using the wizard when I add my host to the new dwswitch

If the connectivity will not be lost, I guess when I add the new dvswitch host and migrate my vmk0, the vmk NFS will appear in the PG on the new DVS as my exchanges were confiigured with the same name?

    Is that correct the above?

    Thanks in advance

If the connectivity will not be lost, I guess when I add the new dvswitch host and migrate my vmk0, the vmk NFS will appear in the PG on the new DVS as my exchanges were confiigured with the same name?

As long as there is a valid vmnic attached to your destination vSwitch and a group of ports on the VLAN, the migration of your NFS vmk interface will be successful.

I suggest doing this kind of work, while the host is in maintenance mode; There will be a small window of time during the migration where the host loses connectivity to the NFS data store.

  • Addition of nic to vmhba vmk

Regarding iSCSI, is it best practice to bind your vmk port HBA software?

This command will list the NIC find for the vmhba:

esxcli swiscsi nic list vmhba33 d

And in my case, he finds nothing, since I have not linked all NIC to the vmhba, and yet he seems iSCSI traffic works well without it.

What is the use of adding a nic to the vmhba vmk? What Miss me?

    Thank you!

If you want to take advantage of the new iSCSI with vSphere multipathing, you'll need at least 2 VMkernel interfaces to use multiple iSCSI sessions and you'll want to link a given vmnic NIC VMkernl. • Best way to make the physical NETWORK card-> vmnic number?

Is there a known way to understand the link between the vmnic0, vmnic1... logical names and their relationship to physical network cards of ESX/ESXi? In other words, if you get on a new server with, say, 6 physical ports and a config on one vmnic, how do you know which translates to correct physics?

The means that I can think of are:

    • Check the MAC address within vSphere Client, but then you must somehow know the MAC of the physical NETWORK adapter

    • check the number of PCI of vSphere Client, but this seems a bit difficult to understand?

    • fix pull cables and are looking for "plugged" or not.

So, how do you do this, if necessary?

In fact, it is quite easy to see which port on a teddy bear refers to things in the VMware environment...

Look under configuring the host tab/Server/network element equipment adapters... This will show each NIC and what vmnic # are assigned to the ports. It will also show the MAC address of each port. If they are assigned to vSwitches, it will also show this info...

You can also see the Networking section (still under the Configuration tab) to see the vmnic # assigned to each vSwitch...

Multiport NIC generally have markings on the plate PCI to let you know which is which... All you really need to know is what is the beginning of numbering.

  • identify MAC VMNIC side addresses physical switch (cisco)

I have several VMNIC connected to 2 network switches to balance the load of the guest computers.

On ESX server if I run 'ifconfig - a' and can see the MAC addresses of each vmnic, but these are not the MAC addresses shown on the side of the cisco switch.

How will I know what vmnic is related to what physical switch port?

Another issue is on the support of the CDP (cisco Discovery Protocol), I see that ESX server has a status of 'listen', what do I need to activate 'advertising' for the cisco switch identify? Any relationship between?

    Thanks in advance.

Take a look at this article for more information about the CDP: http://blog.scottlowe.org/2009/03/24/viewing-cdp-data-on-vmware-esx/

You must activate this in the CLI by using the following:

    esxcfg-vswitch -B {listen,advertise,both,down} vSwitch0

    (e.g.)
    esxcfg-vswitch -B both vSwitch0

To see what it is defined, you can use:

    esxcfg-vswitch -B vSwitch0

Looking for info on the relationship between libraries, albums and photos in the Photos app.  I can create several libraries containing photos and unique albums.  Can I put the same photo in libraries and the different albums?  By making a copy it creates a link to the original or a new photo?  Where are located the photo files?  When scanning photo to my Mac Pro files are placed in a folder structure, copy these photos in an album Photos using the original file or he places a copy in a database?

  • What is the relationship between the library of Photos and the iPhoto library?

I'm asking this question here because I can't find all the relevant information online.

I was dealing with imac a client recently who had a full boot drive. I noticed that his old iPhoto library used 126GB while she had already made the transition to the Photos. His photo library said that he was using a lot more (200 + if I remember correctly). I copied the iPhoto on an external drive library and deleted. Then, I opened the contents of the package and imported pictures remains in program pictures to make sure that I wasn't actually remove all of his memories. Once the work is finished, I was surprised to see that there are more than 6 GB of free space on his computer. What gives? Is there a relationship between the old iPhoto library and new photo library? If so, what is it? Is what I did without danger? I understand at the time that she will not be able to return to iPhoto. But what I'm missing?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

No - they are totally separate - connection or relationship of any kind is not

or the other can be deleted without any effect on the other - but it won't save much space at all and is not recommended - which is exactly what you have seen- Photos saves disk space to share images with your iPhoto or Aperture - Apple Support libraries

  • Inaccessible customer for compliants written relationship

2 years ago, I bought a Sony KDL - 40 S 4100 LCD TV for 1 700 USD. Now, the screen shows a black vertical bar. The technician of the store came to the conclusion that the screen must be replayced. The cost will be very high and is not profitable to be repaired. I think that such a product must be durable and should last a lot more then 2 years.
I send the information by e-mail to the Sony Support, because I live in Suriname (outide U.S.). But they said that this Department another team of relationship client Sony is responsible for this case. I ask them to send my email. They responded that this Department has no (strange?) email address. I ask them to send a print to the Department. Then they sent me a link to fill out a form, so customer can remember. This link does not work.
Now after a week, I couldn't connect with Sony on my broken TV. Why is it impossible to send a written in line with the company. How I have to reach Sony on this case. The TV was bought by a shop in Suriname, who bought at Bestbuy.usa.

  • Extending DataFinder to include the entries Non-donnees and relationships between

I am trying to create centralized custom data and the management software for our laboratory with DataFinder Toolkit.  In addition to storing data acquisition data, I want to be able to store additional information with data such as images, PDFs, word documents that is easily accessible after finding data.  My current idea is to manage external files by storing the path in a property of an object vs trying to store the data itself in the datafinder database.  My code would know how to open these files, so that the user can see with external software or a custom labview application.

I also want to be able to store data objects such as an object that describes a piece of test equipment or a sample with external files and properties.  Images and documents are still important here.  And then create relationships through with unique barcode ID which is a property in the datafinder entry.  So not only could look at the data I could find information on samples and lab equipment. Or anything else that we think needs to be saved.

The code I write around DataFinder would be responsible to maintain the unique ID and know how relations between these identifiers to generate appropriate queries. As a 'Get used material Test' button next to a search result.

For the external data items, I use Labview code to create a file that contains information about the object (unique identification, properties and paths of the external files) and create a plug-in the datafinder will index the file and make it searchable.

This seems reasonable? I like the idea of working with a single system and have everything be updated based on adding, deleting and editing files in a folder. Also, I like the idea of not to split the management of data in several technologies and having to do this work together.

From the description you gave the system seems plausible. Data elements not - you discussed when broken down are just additional data associated with an object.  Store the paths seems plausible, as in the example of community below:

  • How to build a table in a master/slave relationship?

    Hello NOR community,

I can't build a table in a master/slave relationship. I want two paintings to be built for a fixed amount of iterations, once press the 'pressurization '. (This data acquisition would occur only once per program). I am new to Labview so I apologize in advance for my layout disorder.

I want the slave program to create two tables and analyse the slope of pressurization to arrive at the same time as the master's program and the master program to continue to acquire data of pressure.

Master slave relationship is even necessary here? How to pass a variable (pressure main once a loop without getting stuck in a nested loop situation?

Here is a small example, just to show an idea (many things is not optimal in this example!). Based on your VI you have attached, you miss a lot of basic concepts of LabVIEW, you go through online training.
