• Question of VMware DRS ESX cluster?

  Just got a new Question that arises for me on VMware DRS need answers from you guys.

  -What happens in VMware ESX DRS if all ESX servers nodes cluster are running on full use of resources. Will be VMware DRS will migrate a virtual machine (which does not receive the amount of resources that he needs / configured) to another ESX base?

  It is a common misconception that HA depends on vmotion - this is not the case. When a host fails to stop restarted and virtual machines on other nodes of the cluster. So when you stop your ESX Server it is treated as if the host is dead and the virtual machines to restart on the other nodes - which is what you see. What you can do is to place the ESX Server in maintenance mode that will give you the opportunity of vmotion the vms to other nodes before stopping the ESX Server or if you have active DRS and in fully automatic mode it will automatically vmotion machines virtual to the other nodes.

  I need to configure microsoft 2008 cluster between 2 virtual computers in 2 different hosts ESX - i.

  I went through the Setup program for the Clustering failover and Microsoft Cluster Service guide available online.

  Need to understand 1 thing "which is Clustered disks, physical compatibility mode (RDM passthrough).

  My question is «I have 2 requirement of clusters, 1 for data 250 GB & 1 LUN for logs 250GB»

  Do I have to create these 2 LUN in a SAN storage, post it on ESXi hosts & create 2 250 GB data warehouses

  or

  I can publish only 500 GB LUNS, create the data of 500 GB store & create virtual drives of 250 GB each and show it to the virtual machines for clustering?

  ... what I have to publish 2 250 GB LUNS each & then select RDM

  I was wondering anyone can help me? Looking for a script that counts datastore space free (only VMFS non-local) and how many virtual machines can be supplied by cluster take the average size of a virtual computer as 50 GB.

  Found various scripts, but nothing indicating the total amount of that virtual machines can be configured according to the available free space.

• Microsoft Cluster in vSphere using RDM disks

  Gentlemen, I have doubts that sounds simple, but it is better to ask than to the hurt things.

  Here, in the company where I started work two weeks ago. We have two servers of files Windows Server 2012, both are part of Microsoft Cluster Services, these two servers are virtualized on VMware ESXi 5.5, each on a host, here we use vCenter HA and DRS.

  Well, these file servers 03 RDM disks connected to the fibre channel, storage only disks are online only on node 1, node 2 drives are present in the computer Manager, but marked offline.

  To my knowledge, my experience of simple Microsoft cluster, the disks must be online on all nodes for disaster recovery is quick, for example through cluster in Windows Server 2008 R2 and Hyper-V Server R2 of 2012 using iSCSI storage and always leave the disks online on all nodes.

  My question is: is there a reason why a node drives remain online and the other node is taken offline? Because of RDM technology?

  Ivanildo, is the normal Windows Server Failover Clustering behavior, since it is an active/passive cluster architecture, where a single node read/write a disk at a time, and is not a problem due to the use of RDMS in vSphere environment.

  The bellow image show two discs a WSFC, where 6 disk Offline on that particular node and the 7 disc is online:

  

  And, do TRY not to put the disks as offline being online on another node through disk management, this task must be performed by using the Failover Cluster Management console.

  I am very new to the vCO (or maybe I should call vRO now) and therefor also very new to script and digging through the API, so I apologize if this is a bit of a noob question.

  I'm currently running below script to find the data store cluster to a cluster host with more available space.

  However, I also want to check for the text in the name of the data store. For this I use indexOf.

  If indexOf detects all matches, it should add the DSC (or pod) in a table.

  But it seems that this operation turns my array into a string.

  Difference between failover and places available slots.

  I have here is Advanced Runtime info in my VMware to Test cluster.

  Available places = 0

  Failover slots = 83

  Like places = 0, this means that I won't be able to poweron the VM more if one of the host is down? Please explian.

• ESXi 5 setting up Cluster after the fact

  I have 4 ESXi 5 servers in VMware ESXi 5 environment; each server has 6-8 Windows 2003/2008 comments servers. It is on for about 1 year. I would now like to create 1 cluster that would include all 4 ESXi servers. I want to do to ensure that we can take full advantage of HA capacity and failover. Now, I know that I should have put in place from the beginning. If I had to do it now is there anything else I should look out for. Should I close all my guests, first of all, if I the not to scream on all clients will there be any problems? I'm looking for the best approach to move forward with this. Also, I found documentation on blogs etc regarding what parameters to set when the configuration of the cluster, but they do not seem to agree so if someone has VMware's official recommendations for the specific parameters of the cluster that would be appreciated as well.

  There is no need of customers stop to add a host in a cluster.

  You just have dark cluster first. (Do not enable the cluster first by tick HA or DRS)

  Drag and drop the hosts one by one to the cluster.

  Once guests are part of the cluster go edit cluster and select the cluster.

  My advice for you is to get some advice on the design of the cluster.

  Since its so easy how vmware did create cluster in vsphere people tend to fund groups and add hosts to them and a difficult time finding the cluster settings and some tring to understand why some virtual machines have not restarted because of a faliure.

  We use a distributed deployment of vRA 7 and have 2 devices with the built-in vro. Both devices show the service as running vco-server, and I can connect to each instance of vco using the orchestrator client. Also the asax component can load workflows vro. I am able to navigate to the inventory.

  Also, we noticed this problem after one of our servers of iaas is dead on us. We had to rebuild a starting from scratch and shiv inside. It was the Manager node, then this is the EDO, DEM and Manager of services that run on it. Not sure if this is related, it's just that we noticed after. It could occurred earlier also...

  Any suggestions on where to look to refine this would be greatly appreciated.

  I searched google for the first line in the stack trace 'com.vmware.o11n.web.util.CommonUtil.getServerConfiguration' and came across this recent article from VMWare:

  That fixed it for me, now the collection of data on the endpoint vro works.

• How to configure ESX and vCenter with two areas virtualized?

  Hi all

  I'm quite new to VMware please bare with me, I'll try to get to the point.

  I am building a new infrastructure for a customer which will look something like the image below...

  My questions concern vCenter and the best way to install it and configure it, taking into account the environment below.

  (a) is it possible for vCenter to manage these two areas, even if they are completely separate?

  (b) how to configure the physical server Win 2008 in what concerns an area? If both virtual areas have their own domain controllers is to say 'Live-domain' and 'Test-domain' box Win 2008 won't belong to one, so what do I do with it? I can't join the party to another area because it is not a. And I can't let a working group.

  That sounds right. Yes, the ESX host will meet your virtual domain controller's DNS information. DNS is very important in an active VMware with HA cluster.

  Virtual domain controllers (and, as a result, DNS) are fairly mundane, no worries, I designed / management of environments that were 100% virtual (incudling vCenter).

  Make sure that you do not enable the option "synchronize time with host" on the virtual domain controller VMware tools. Otherwise, you will have a loop (with VM, VM host synchronization synchronizes with host). The option is disabled by default.
