VMware esxi 3.0 cpu limitation free version?

Is there a number of cpu, you can use the free edition with vmware esxi 3.5?

We're going to get a server who is 2 x processors intel quad core and I wondered it esxi will see a single processor even if there are 2.

Thank you.

The maximum number of processors can use the free version of ESXi is identical to purchased versions - http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_35/esx_3i_e/r35u2/vi3_35_25_u2_3i_server_config.pdf which is 32 hearts

  • Error after upgrade to ESXi 5 Update 1 on free version

At all a ghettoVCBg2 got another run properly after the upgrade to ESXi 5u1 via vMA 5 when it's the free version?

I have a couple of free machine and they are the only ones having problems. My verson licensed production work very well.

The error I get on free machines is as follows:

Failed to get vim_service - the session object is not initialized or not connected to the line /usr/lib/perl5/5.10.0/VMware/VICommon.pm 1654
Perl came out with active threads:
    1 running and spare
    0 finished and spare
    0 running and detached

I find autour and trying different solutions to simular errors (for example, by adding the debugging of CARP), but nothing works.

None of the 1 post update fixes fixed either.

ghettoVCB works very well on the free servers however.

So, I'm curious if anyone has seen this problem?

I guess that the reason is that ghettoVCB2 was built for the paid editions that allow write API access.

There was some editions which do not restrict this access, as you can see in "Support of ESX/ESXi Version table" at http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-9843. The initial version of ESXi 5.0 is / was one of them, considering that the update 1 is even more restrictive.

  • (Beginner) Service of ESXi console... .free version?

    Hello

Thank you for taking the time to read this...

Is there an equivalent free in the Red Hat "Service Console"... perhaps as a version of Fedora/CentOS?

    And,

If you guys have any advice - or - recommendations that isn't already in Raid 5 configuration documentation (ESXi hosting multiple operating systems), I would really appreciate it.

(I was using VMware Server & prepairing to switch to ESXi)

    Thank you!

You can use devices RCLI or vMA (aka VIMA) to administer your ESXi hosts.

Not really... at least with the free version of ESXi, you will have only read only access that doesn't give you a lot. Take a look at this article: http://vmetc.com/2009/03/31/esxi-u4-ends-free-version-read-and-write-access-from-the-rcli/ and Yes, it extends to something newer than ESXi 3.5u2/u3

If you license ESXi at least the license to the Foundation, then Yes, you can use vCLI, vMA, PowerCLI to manage your ESXi hosts, but if you use the free version you will no CLI access to manage. You can still use the vSphere Client GUI.

  • R710/R720 - Dell customized Image of VMware ESXi 5.5 Update 2 - megaraid_sas version specific?

That I improve a R710 and two v5.5 (Dell image) to v5.5 U2 ESXi ESXi R720 using the image of Dell here:

    www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails

The documentation "Upgrade Guide to ESXi 5.5 using Dell customized Image" here:

    www.Dell.com/.../manuals

indicates that a specific version of the megaraid_sas driver must be installed.

Is the version megaraid_sas that installs with the image of Dell U2 v5.5 not the right version?

I just ran the upgrade on a R710 and it's the megaraid_sas version installed:

    ~ # vmkload_mod s megaraid_sas | grep Version
    Version: Version 06.803.73.00, build: 1331820, Interface: 9.2 inspired: August 22, 2014

    Thank you.

    Hello

It lists the R720 and R710 systems supported and both link to the same page, so the customized version is the same for both servers. Is the version listed in the reference guide for A02

    megaraid_sas - 06.803.73.00

    Page 5 ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_software/esuprt_virt_solutions/vmware-esxi-5_Reference%20Guide6_en-us.pdf

This is the same version that he shows for your installation on the R710 so that seems correct.

  • VMWare ESXi hypervisor of 5.5 Free Edition on a server explosion 2

    Hi forum,

I just installed a hypervisor 5.5 ESXi on a HP Server a test socket.

It works great and I could license with free ESXi license.

Now, I would like to upgrade an acual ESXi 5.1 Fujitsu server with two explosion (2 x Xeon E5-2630 6 c/12 t) and 64 GB of RAM.

The server is in eval mode 60 days of ESXi 5.1 because of the 64 GB of Ram. The license hypervisor free ESXi 5.1 only works for 32 GB of Ram, so I couldn't activate it.

Is it possible to update AND license the machine two struggling with ESXi hypervisor from 5.5?

My housing a real test-system shows that the license is valid for a power outlet. Can I register two free hypervisor 5.5 licenses on the Fujitsu 2-socket-server or is a license enough.

In the worst case, it does not work with 5.5

I only have a single ESXi server, so I need a vCenter and so on.

At would be in your opinion?

    Thank you very much

Is the limited number of virtual machines? It takes about 15 virtual machines.

The free version of ESXi 4.0 and the free version of vSphere supports withot server according to constraints?

  • ESXI free Version host failure - how to recover virtual machines?

    Hi all

I ran a VMWare lab at home with a free version of ESXI 4.1.

My server does not and I have to reset all the settings management of ESXI and I lost my virtual machines.

I solved the problem, but I lost the virtual machine.

When I navigate through the data store I can see the virtual hard disk for my servers.

Is there a way to recover these virtual machines?

I guess that I'm not the first to ask this question, so if you could point me to any page with some instruction, it would be great.

    Thanks in advance,

    Fabio

Welcome to the VMware forums communities.  In each folder of the virtual machine, you should see a VMX file for the virtual machine.  This is the configuration file.  Right-click on it and select Add to the inventory.  Then follow the instructions of the wizard and after the virtual machine market.  If your network configuration is the same as previously, then you should be good to go.

  • Free version of ESXi can support for configuration of start and stop virtual machines via vSphere Client?

I have read and found some documents on ESXi.

According to the documents, I know that ESXi free version does not support some advanced virtual machine configurations and does not support write to ESXi host permission. But when I download ESXi from vmware.com, I can't find the free version. He will always be a trial of the licensed version edition because I can always do the configuration of start and stop virtual machines via vSphere Client installation. I can also run scripts (lamw) pl in vMA to stop the ESXi host (authorization to write ok?)

Then I confused. How can I get the really free version of ESXi? Or will the free version after 60 days of evaluation?

Start/stop above configuration is in vSphere Client via 'Configuration'-> "start/stop VM"-> "Properties"... «-> "Allow the virtual computers start and stop automatically with the system" actions setting and stop virtual machines can be configured to "comments"turn off computer"or"Suspend".» Can any body tell me if it's supported by ESXi free edition?

Is the free version of vSphere Client too? Because when I use the vSphere Client, he told me that I have 60 days of evaluation. This confused me again. I think that vSphere Client is always free, am I right?

Any suggestion or advice is much appreciated.  _

    Micky

Configuration of start and stop virtual machines is available with the free version and licensed, with the free version you would be configured everything via vSphere Client, where as with a licensed version, you can optionally use scripts to configure it and also issue restarts/stops using scripts.

Second, shutdownHostViaSOAPAPICall.pl for the version licensed and free of ESX (i), this script will work in both free and licensed because it uses direct SOAP calls emulating the vSphere Client communication. Take a look at the documentation for details, but this of course is not supported by VMware.

  • Help - what is and what is not available in free version of ESXi 3.5 U4?  VIMA?  VI Toolkit?

    Hello

I'll try to find a (web page perhaps) summary of what is and especially what is NOT available in free version of ESXi 3.5 Embedded U4.

Like many people I guess, I spent hours looking for a way to perform certain operations on virtual disks, to see that these operations have been banned in the free version of ESXi 3.5 U4.  It is reasonable, after all, if someone gives you a horse, don't look in his mouth!  But while I'm happy to be an ESXi 'amateur' to a certain extent, I'm starting to feel like a pirate, and I'm doing this a bit more productive experience.  Here's what I found so far:

-Some of the most useful features in VMware Tools (such as 'narrowing of the virtual disks') seem to have no useful effect in ESXi 3.5 U4 Embedded free version

-L' operation-e vmkfstools.pl RCLI to rename the virtual disk (moving) and the i - operation to clone (copy / import / export) a virtual disk seem to be disabled (due to lack of return. RestrictedVersion.summary)

-vim - cmd does not provide what be good beyond what you can do in VI Client

In particular, can someone tell me if it is interesting to study the following, that is I'll be able to do anything discs at all useful to the virtual with them in ESXi 3.5 U4 Embedded free version:

    -VIMA

    -VI Toolkit (for Windows)

    Thanks for any help/pointers.

Take a look at this article: http://vmetc.com/2009/03/31/esxi-u4-ends-free-version-read-and-write-access-from-the-rcli/, it should provide general information on the ESXi set and the problem of read-only.

As ESXi never was intended to provide full access to the VI API, you get what you pay for and in this case, you use the free version so that you can accomplish all of these tasks with the VI Client, if you want more, you'll have to pay for it.

So first off, vim-cmd is only available with the unsuppoted SSH console and you can probably do most of the basic tasks through some scripted as a shell script automation, also in the console Busybox unsupported, you have full access to the very familiar vmkfstools. Now, you mention vmkfstools.pl is the remote version of the tool, because it is not available by default with ESXi (as the console does not support is not supported by VMware). To manage and configure your remote host ESX and ESXi, vCLI was created that replicates most of the popular esxcfg-* commands that use the API of VI

This VI API is not free, you have full read access but if you want to set up/perform all operations that aren't will not be played, then you will need to have a license appropriate and which is at the Foundation or higher. The API is exposed as WSDL/SOAP and there are various scripts/languages with links that hang in the VI API to provide a level of abstractions for programmers, administrators, some of these languages include Microsoft Powershell, Perl, c#, Java, etc.

PowerCLI (officially VI Toolkit Windows) is such a link that uses the VI API, i.e. to use it you will need to have the appropriate permit to change the configuration of other you will have only read access, it's similar to Perl called vSphere SDK for Perl bindings. So, if you're going to explore other routes, you will always encounter the same fundamental question.

Okay, vMA (officially VIMA) is just a VAPP VMware RHEL that provides administrators a way to centrally manage / to distance your servers ESX/ESXi and vCenter. It comes by default with the vSphere THAT SDK Perl and a few other utilities to help manage/configure your systems and once again they depend on the VI API which access set based on the licenses that you have on your hosts.

So all the options are options, but you need to know if you are going to get a license, because without the most basic, you will not be able to use one of these toolkits. Note that the license NOT only does full read/write access to the API but other features depending on the license you buy.

There are other tools that provides VMware which, for now, temporarily has functions of management for virtual machines ONLY, this may change in the near future but take a look at this thread for more information post: is not happy with lockdown 3.5u4 VI API/RCLI ESXi? Worry not, VMware VIX to the rescue... for now =)

I hope that this clears up everything.

  • Management EFXi 4.0 free version

    Hello

Is it possible to manage virtual machines running on a server ESXi 4.0 automatically?

I have the free version of ESXi 4.0 and a free version of vSphere. This combination works very well, but I want a solution based on a startup script, stop and backup of all my virtual machines. I tried "vSphere CLI" and 'VMware VIX', but it seems that they do not work in combination with the free version of ESXi 4.0.

If there is no way to do it with the free version: what license should I buy?

    concerning

    Robert

Free ESXi is limited to read-only controls.

Less expensive license is vSphere Essentials - 1 k$. You will have licenses for 3 hosts dual CPU and vCenter Foundation.

And of course, you will be able to start and stop virtual machines with scripts.

There is unfortunately quite hard limits, for example 8 GB vRAM, it's the total amount of RAM to virtual machines. I suggest that you look at version 4.1 and not 5.0.

(VMware is however always claim that the virtual machines on the free vSphere Hypervisor could use unlimited RAM. It is probably not correct.)
