  • Cannot change the power state of VM: cannot...   (VMWare Workstation 7 on Debian Lenny)

Hi all, I am new to this community. I recently installed VMWare Workstation 7 on a Debian Lenny (kernel 2.6.26.2 - amd64). I had no problem with it, but when I tried to start a Virtual Machine Windows Vista, which I created it, does not start. Error says windows "cannot change the power state of VM: could not find a peer valid to connect to". "" Any idea, please?

    Josber.

It seems that the virtual machine has been suspended when your host is using a different screen resolution

either change back to the resolution that you used when you suspenmded the machine virtual or delete the VMS.

This will force the VM to do a cold boot

Hi, I use workbench 3.0.2 to run VMware Esxi 5.5 U2 NIC certification.

  • Cannot change the power state of VM: internal error

    Hello

I freshly installed OS elementary which is based on Ubuntu.

VMWare Workstation installation worked fine, but after creating my new virtual machine with a Win 10, the same message comes to me:

Cannot change the power state of VM: internal error

I looked a little in the log file, found this dump was set to zero, they changed in etc/security /, but that's all I've managed to find.

    Here is my log file

Thanks a lot for your help

PS: I'm leaving a beginner in the Linux world, so explanation would be welcome

    Hello

Welcome to the VMware community forums.

I don't think that the problem is related to a beginner linux user, it's a problem triggered by a specific hardware configuration.

If you look at your log file again, there is an error just before the vmware process attempts to core dump. The dump is a reaction to the problem.

If you then put the bug number into google, you get:

Which indicates in return you can set a configuration file to specify the actual frequency of your processor.

Your processor is an Intel (r) Core i5-3570 CPU @ 3.40 GHz

The linux variant of the config.ini file they speak on windows hosts is/etc/vmware/config

  • Moved from VM with Snap Shots, doesn't start: cannot change the power state of VM: internal error

    Hello

Last week, I decided to move from a Windows host based Linux system. So I went through my VMs their power off and copied to another drive. I then installed 7 Centos and reinstalled VMWare Workstation 12 re-imported the virtual machine in VMWare and I tried to start.

    I received the following message...

"Cannot change the power state of VM: internal error.

Suspicious, I looked at the folder that contains the machine virtual and noticed it contained snapshots. DOH!

I guess it is pretty bad, not sure where to start?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    James

I copied VM, with and without clichés, without problems. Have a few running on OSX Fusion so

The first thing I would check would be for folders and .lck files. If so, remove them.

  • Drive HARD physics add to VMware ESXi 5.1

I came across a configuration of a Dell Power Edge ii one T110 Server VMware ESXi 5.1

It was built not by me, I found it here. I came across the need to increase the storage of VMware, but I need to add a new physical HARD disk.

I'm afraid to make any changes to the system, because there is no backup found for the virtual machine.

If I stop the physical machine and connect the additional HARD disk, how can I declare to the VMware, in order to define the backup of the virtual machine?

    Thank you in advance.

    Sincerely, George I.

When you restart the server, you should see an option to create a matrix of storage before the ESXi begins to start up (this option is available for almost all servers and appears between POST process and startup). Select the option and create a RAID 0 array on second HARD drive. Start the ESXi server after that. You have to be sure that the second HDD is not in use or it will be formatted.

When the ESXi has started, go to Configuration-> Storage-> rescan all. After the news of the analysis is complete, go to storage add and you should see the table that you just created. After you have added storage, it will be visible as a the ESXi data store.

Let me know how it went.

  • Configuration of IPSec in VMWare ESXi can be applied to virtual machines running?

    Hello

I have an operating system running inside VMWare ESXi 5.1.  Let's call is "MyLinux".  It is a modified version of Linux which does not support IPSec.  So I try to get VMWare to manipulate IPSec for MyLinux.

I used esxcli orders to successfully create configurations for IPSec between VMWare itself and other systems.

However, I wonder if I can use the same esxcli commands to configure IPSec between MyLinux and other systems?  In my tests, VMWare does not perform tunneling IPSec data between the running machines and other virtual systems.

It is an illustration of the configuration I created for MyLinux in VMWare.  I also have a security policy that is not visible.

Name Source address Destination address State SPI Mode Encryption Algorithm, integrity algorithm to life

    --------                              -------------------------------------      -------------------------------------  ------      -----     ---------     --------------------               -------------------           --------

    MyLinuxToExternalSA MyLINUX.IPv6.ADDRESS EXTERNAL. Mature IPv6.ADDRESS infinity 0 x 300 transport 3des-cbc hmac-sha2-256

    ExternalToMyLinuxSA EXTERNAL. IPv6.ADDRESS infinite mature MyLINUX.IPv6.ADDRESS of hmac-sha2-256 0 x 256 transport 3des-cbc

When I captured a trace TCP ping between MyLinux and the external system, MyLinux never sent the IPSec packets. Everything was sent in the clear.  This suggests that VMWare does not apply the rule for MyLinux, but I would like to confirm.  Thank you.

    Kwabena

When you configure IPSec on ESXi, you sécuriserez the VMkernel traffic, not the virtual machine... If you want to protect the traffic of the virtual machine, you will need to enable IPSec on guest operating system.

Here is more information on IPSec on ESXi: VMware KB: IPv6 and IPsec configuration on vSphere ESX and ESXi 4.1, 5.x ESXi

  • VCenter Server with VMWare ESXi free 5 5

    Hi all

Test the VCenter Server 5 Evaluation (60 day trial) to management all my 5 of VMWare ESXi (free license). It works with restrictions. These restrictions aren´t a problem for me. I need only to move (power off of virtual machines), clone, create templates for and organize my servers in a single interface VSphere Client. So, I would like to know what type of license of VCenter Server 5 woks if VMWare ESXi 5 free. Buy the VCenter Server 5 Standard?

Another doubt is if VStorage works with VMWare ESXi free license I.

    Best regards

    Fabio Sobral

Unfortunately the free ESXi hosts in vCenter management is not possible (except for the eval). The hosts of ESXi need a vCenter Server Agent license that is only available in editions 'paid' of ESXi.

  • Problem the appliance USB VMware ESXi 4.0.0-4.1.0

    Dear Sir

I have a problem for my server to recognize USB devices.
VMware ESXi is installed 4.0.0 and 4.1.0 and in both cases, these devices don't notrecognize me.
The machines that I tested on Windows Server 2003, 2008 and even Linux and there nocase.

    Any solution or idea?

    Best regards

    Sebastian

I had the same problem. You will also notice that there is no power to the USB

    Look at these two links:

    http://www.VM-help.com/esx40i/VMDirectPath/fix_config_issues.php

    http://www.VM-help.com/esx40i/VMDirectPath/USB_Setup.php

NB NB NB: the host chipset must support the passthrough option

After you have added all of my usb devices and after a reboot, my local host console was frozen and I could not access anything whatsoever. I did a repair and everything went quickly up and running and will now add each device for passthrough successively. (you will need to reboot the host after addind devices)

  • VMware ESXi serving SMB to a windows network?

I have a friend who has a small business. It has about a half dozen windows on desktop machines. On the backend, it has a pretty Beefy Server (AMD Phenom X 3, 8 GB of RAM, RAID 3 to matrix). He runs VMware Server 2.0 on a box of CentOS 5.x, and he has two XP VMs on this box. It also has a very large partition on this machine, which he is serving as the several stock through Samba for desktop computers.

Unfortunately, VMware Server got a little, uh, flaky with current versions of Linux. I had problems with it on a Debian installation and there has been a power outage a couple of weeks, and the server would not be back for two or three days. Then he called me.

Now I would like to convert him on VMware ESXi (3.5 or 4.0, since the machine is 64-bit), but remains the problem of the samba shares. Is it possible for esxi for a second or subsequent data store and serve as actions for windows machines? I had thought to build an another VM to serve these files, but that is not good. Looks like another layer of obfuscation, it is a bit nervous about trusting to its archives (some date back to 1992) of VMware with the experience he had with the server. Does anyone know of another (better?) way?

    Thank you

    -Storm

On ESX and ESXi, it is not the part of 'server' of file server protocols.

And as noted before, the best choice is to create a virtual machine that act as a file server.
