Upgrade VMware ESXi 6.0 Update 2 VMware ESXi 6.0
Hello I am running my PowerEdge T110 II with VMware ESXi 6.0 - Dell customized image. I see that from April 15, 2016 Dell just introduced VMware ESXi 6.0 Update 2 and I'd like to update my system.
On the download page , I see there is an option to download and the ISO file. I wonder if this installation will completely be wipeout my existing VMware ESXi 6.0 - Dell custom and all the settings and I have to start all over again or update 2 ISO just 'modernize' my network?
Hello
You can use it to update without doing a new install. KB.VMware.com/.../Search.do; cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2109711 #Inter

R710/R720 - Dell customized Image of VMware ESXi 5.5 Update 2 - megaraid_sas version specific?
That I improve a R710 and two v5.5 (Dell image) to v5.5 U2 ESXi ESXi R720 using the image of Dell here:
www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails
The documentation "Upgrade Guide to ESXi 5.5 using Dell customized Image" here:
www.Dell.com/.../manuals
indicates that a specific version of the megaraid_sas driver must be installed.
Is the version megaraid_sas that installs with the image of Dell U2 v5.5 not the right version?
I just ran the upgrade on a R710 and it's the megaraid_sas version installed:
~ # vmkload_mod s megaraid_sas | grep Version
Version: Version 06.803.73.00, build: 1331820, Interface: 9.2 inspired: August 22, 2014
Thank you.
Hello
It lists the R720 and R710 systems supported and both link to the same page, so the customized version is the same for both servers. Is the version listed in the reference guide for A02
megaraid_sas - 06.803.73.00
Page 5 ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_software/esuprt_virt_solutions/vmware-esxi-5_Reference%20Guide6_en-us.pdf
This is the same version that he shows for your installation on the R710 so that seems correct.

OpenManage for VMWare ESXi has no possibility of tasks of virtual disk
OMSA v 7.1 and 7.2 for Windows (and earlier versions) allow the user to perform many tasks on virtual disks, including reconfiguring - expand a RAID array with a new drive.
This is not true for managing open for VMWare ESXi - although you can monitor the status of the RAID and disks with the browser of the OMSA interface type, you cannot perform tasks - can not even make a high beam Flash.
It is a huge problem, because the PERC controllers (H700 and H800, for example) don't allow you to develop virtual using hard drives not Dell disks when you try this during startup in the bios. (These controllers only allows you to create new virtual disks using drives not Dell).
This test was conducted using the latest firmware (12.10.4 - 0001 A10) and drivers for the H700 and H800 and multi-server r610 ESXi 5.1.
Other people with VMWare have been affected by the present? The only solution is to have two player networks connected to the computer, and create a simple Windows with OMSA, boot in Windows Server to expand the table using OMSA for Windows.
I would be interested in the comments of others, including those of Dell. We spent hours on the phone with Dell; This seems to be the only solution. (Yes, Dell released a firmware version last year that has ceased blocking non Dell readers, but it only works for the creation of a new virtual disk, do not expanding one existing).
Yes. It came through a discussion in the Dell | Servers | Discussion of the RAID community.
en.Community.Dell.com/.../20263442.aspx
There is a CD bootable linux called OMSA Live that you download from PowerEdge (linux OS) systems management.
This OMSA PERC H700 and H800 control and allows you to do everything. When you reconfigure the RAID and the PERC card starts the reconstruction, although it seems risky, you can restart under VMware and the reconstruction of the RAID continues on. And you can analyze with OMSA for VMware.

LSI MegaRAID Storage Manager on VMware ESXi 4.0
Hi guys,.
We tried to install on VMware ESXi 4.0 MegaRAID Storage Manager (IBM x 3550 M2) and it uses Controller RAID MegaRAID SAS 8808E to monitor the hard disk status but could not be able to install and it returned the error as attaché
We followed the procedure as shown in the following ibm Web site
1.6 MegaRAID Manager storage system to a VMWare ESX Server
Follow these steps to install the on a MegaRAID Storage Manager
VMWare ESX Server:
1. download the latest MSM to ibm.com
2 unzip the and copy MSM_linux_installer - 501.01.tar.gz on a USB key.
3. from the ESX Server, in the console root, type the following command
to identify the USB device: fdisk-l
4. type the following command: mount/mnt/dev / {name of the USB device}
5. type the following command: cd/mnt
6. type the following command to copy MSM_linux_installer - 501.01.tar.gz in the occupied Palestinian territories
file: cp MSM_linux_installer - 501.01.tar.gz / opt
7. type the following command to decompress the package gunzip MSM_linux_installer - 501.01.tar.gz
8 type the following command to unzip the package tar - vxf MSM_linux_installer - 501.01.tar
9. replace the directories with the path/opt/disk
10 tapez./vmware_install.sh to install MSM
11. Select version of VMware
a. enter 1 to install Vmware 3.5
b enter 2 for VMware 4.0 install
12. Select the storlib option
a. Enter n If you want to use the Inbox storlib driver
b. Enter y if you want to install the storlib delivered with MSM
IBM recommends 'y' is selected for use packed with MSM, storlib by selecting "n" can
cause some features of MSM does not function properly
I would like to know if I use the correct version of the Storage Manager Application MegaRAID for VMware ESXi 4.0
If not could someone please advise on how to proceed with the installation and troubleshooting
Please find the file of errors as attaché
Greatly appreciate your help
Thanks in advance,
Vignesh

Installation of VMware ESXI 6 in my server
Hi all
I have a server that I have configured with raid 1 using the disk on the Server utility.
When I try to install VMWare ESXI on the server, in the part of the selection of the disk to install the ESXY appears only the physical disks and not the virtual drives configured in table mode. What should I do?
Concerning
Milton Aguiar
You are probably using some (aka 'false') 'software' edge RAID controller. These controllers require additional driver software to work. However, VMware supports only the real hardware RAID controllers, which are transparently logical volumes to the OS. Unless your hardware provider offering dedicated to ESXi drivers (HP as much I know as fact for some of theit controllers of Type B) you may not use the RAID on board.

Drive HARD physics add to VMware ESXi 5.1
I came across a configuration of a Dell Power Edge ii one T110 Server VMware ESXi 5.1
It was built not by me, I found it here. I came across the need to increase the storage of VMware, but I need to add a new physical HARD disk.
I'm afraid to make any changes to the system, because there is no backup found for the virtual machine.
If I stop the physical machine and connect the additional HARD disk, how can I declare to the VMware, in order to define the backup of the virtual machine?
Thank you in advance.
Sincerely, George I.
When you restart the server, you should see an option to create a matrix of storage before the ESXi begins to start up (this option is available for almost all servers and appears between POST process and startup). Select the option and create a RAID 0 array on second HARD drive. Start the ESXi server after that. You have to be sure that the second HDD is not in use or it will be formatted.
When the ESXi has started, go to Configuration-> Storage-> rescan all. After the news of the analysis is complete, go to storage add and you should see the table that you just created. After you have added storage, it will be visible as a the ESXi data store.
Let me know how it went.

VMware ESXi 5.5 and HP ML310e gen8 v2 lose the license and the password after restart
I've updated my HP Proliant server with the latest drivers and I have the BIOS version is here: VMware Compatibility Guide: search system
but after I entered my license in vSphere and adding a virtual machine to the host, where I am restart I lose the license, the password to connect to the host (his game empty) and all virtual machines (I have to add them manually and fix the network, because it is also reset to the default setting).
Any ideas why is this happing? I'm doing something wrong?
Other info: I have 2 hard drives put in a logical drive (Raid 1) and VmWare log does not work without saying anything...
Hello
is it a stand alone esx host? If yes try asking another key on the wmare site
hp custom image you used to install the esxi? If not download the latest version of the hp site or vmware and perform a new installation or level and keep the data store.
also update the firmware of the hp for the later levels site

Configuration of IPSec in VMWare ESXi can be applied to virtual machines running?
Hello
I have an operating system running inside VMWare ESXi 5.1. Let's call is "MyLinux". It is a modified version of Linux which does not support IPSec. So I try to get VMWare to manipulate IPSec for MyLinux.
I used esxcli orders to successfully create configurations for IPSec between VMWare itself and other systems.
However, I wonder if I can use the same esxcli commands to configure IPSec between MyLinux and other systems? In my tests, VMWare does not perform tunneling IPSec data between the running machines and other virtual systems.
It is an illustration of the configuration I created for MyLinux in VMWare. I also have a security policy that is not visible.
Name Source address Destination address State SPI Mode Encryption Algorithm, integrity algorithm to life
-------- ------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- ------ ----- --------- -------------------- ------------------- --------
MyLinuxToExternalSA MyLINUX.IPv6.ADDRESS EXTERNAL. Mature IPv6.ADDRESS infinity 0 x 300 transport 3des-cbc hmac-sha2-256
ExternalToMyLinuxSA EXTERNAL. IPv6.ADDRESS infinite mature MyLINUX.IPv6.ADDRESS of hmac-sha2-256 0 x 256 transport 3des-cbc
When I captured a trace TCP ping between MyLinux and the external system, MyLinux never sent the IPSec packets. Everything was sent in the clear. This suggests that VMWare does not apply the rule for MyLinux, but I would like to confirm. Thank you.
Kwabena
When you configure IPSec on ESXi, you sécuriserez the VMkernel traffic, not the virtual machine... If you want to protect the traffic of the virtual machine, you will need to enable IPSec on guest operating system.

Network configuration / routing / two network interface cards / NAT - leased / dedicated Dell R210 running VMware ESXi 5.1.0 build-799733
Network configuration / routing / two network interface cards / NAT - leased / dedicated Dell R210 running VMware ESXi 5.1.0 build-799733
Hello
I'm trying to understand how to configure a dedicated server of Dell R210 rented running VMware ESXi 5.1.0 build-799733
This dedicated server is rented www.online.net and sits somewhere in France. One of its network adapters have an IP public 62.210.177.20x. The other NIC is here, but I do not understand how it is configured. According to the www.online.net portal, the other NETWORK card has or should have an IP 10.90.116.20x. And I am obviously set up is to have some virtual machines running and be able to access the Internet. I have access to the console of the server Dell through iDRAC and since I could see, one of the network adapters in the IP is 62.210.177.20x defined, and the other has been shown out of service. I managed to make it appear the other interface but I cannot find anywhere how to assign the IP address 10.90.116.20x to this 2nd network adapter. But then again I don't even know if I should or if I need to assing a IP address to this 2nd network adapter. What is the cable connected even for this 2nd NIC? I do not know. Should it be - I'm not either. I don't know French and manuals/instructions on www.online.net are in French. I can try an online translator, but I don't think that what I'm looking for is explained. How do I get this set up? I have to do something about the ESXi on the server console? This interface 2nd should be in place, or it must be down as if it was originally? Yesterday after watching someone videos on YouTube, I added the second virtual switch and moved the virtual hosts of this switch 2 and he entrusted the 2nd NIC. But that 2nd NIC had a red X next to it probably indicating that it was disconnected the 2nd form virtual switch. Today and now I have managed to access the ESXi console server through iDRAC, I bring the 2nd NIC, and now both network adapters are assigned to the virtual switch 1st . But I think that a NIC should be attributed to a single switch and the other card NETWORK on the 2nd switch. I'm just a desktop guy with enough knowledge to be dangerous J if you / someone put in steps how and where to set them up it... PLEASE
Thanks in advance

Network configuration
- VMware vSphere Hypervisor is an "operating system" for pure virtualization and support NAT or routing. Therefore, only a real bridge configuration can be used.
- To use a subnet additional IP must be configured as a router VM.
If I understand the above, I need to show some VM and set up as a router? If the virtual machine that will act as a router must have two network interfaces, where it is connected to a switch and the other to the other switch network card. Am I do? The YouTube video that suggested, but I thought that maybe / somehow ESXi can route packets between the two network cards, but from what I read, ESXi can route packets. Do I need to order an additional / extra / 2nd IPv4 address so that it can be assigned to the interface of the router?

Hot migration is possible with VMWare ESXi 5.1.0 without an ESX server management
Hot migration is possible with VMWare ESXi 5.1.0 without an ESX server management?
I wonder for a future issue, a scenario where a system administrator must build a Win2008 + DC on local storage, server
then, once the physical box is integrated into the class network, the physical box is connected to the classified SAN storage.
Is it possible to hot - migrate the server Win2008 + CC local storage to SAN storage at this time, with only the
free version of VMWare ESXi 5.1.0?
Welcome to the community - I guess that you are looking to do this, while the virtual machine is currently running - this is not possible without a management server, also called vCenetr, but all is not lost because you would be able spend the VM local storage to the San with the VM posered using the client storage management features

VMware esxi 5.0: Samba datastore
Hello
After searching for a thousand and one ways I found no results for my problem.
Let me explain:
I recently bought from Dell a server on vmware esxi 5.0.
My virtualization works wonderfully well and I have no worries about the virtualization itself.
Given the cost of the server I preferred a server with little storage... And now everything works fine I heard 'need' more storage (Miss near 100 go).
I have a server iomega Linux ubuntu 11.02 with more than 1 TB of storage. That had more but accurate, so I decided to use it as storage type NAS dedicated only to my virtualization.
It is configured so that it is accessible to all (public mode). It is visible from any position, it is on Linux or on Windows. I have the opportunity (in any position) to create/delete/run the files it contains.
Ook, impossible pour me to make this server a data store. :/
Indeed after searching for tutorials on the Internet I don't have until then not found solution...
Apart from "http://www.tuto-it.fr/ESXDatastore.php." When I get to select my server (IP put) I don't have to worry about this one is clearly visible. However I don't have a 'target' (target) available in what makes me unable to create a new LUN disk on this famous server.
I ask myself several questions:
1. is my request possible?
2 samba is he took into account by Vmware as a NAS Server?
3. a more advanced version of the it takes VMware pour UTI UN datastore 'distant '?
4. should I use another operating system and/or USE another software for sharing?
Someone would have it an idea pour me troubleshoot?
I thank in advance anyone willing to give me some advice.
[EDIT]
I also could find attached 'http://www.vclouds.nl/2012/06/24/building-my-superfast-home-storage-with-nexenta-ce/' but this one speaks of "Nexenta. Therefore, pour me possible to a server from a data store. Remains to be seen how! :-(

Hello
Pour you could mount a store of data that Linux server on your infra vSphere, it takes you to introduce United Nations either NFS or iSCSI volumes.
A the of my opinion, simpler and faster is that you turn to the NFS, just have to be careful to set the right parameters pour export.
Keep us updated,.

Why VMWare ESXi 5 slow down access to IBM M1015 / LSI 9240-8i RAID?
I build servers for virtualization and wanted to go with VMWare ESXi 5. I configured RAID10 on 4 discs attached to the IBM M1015 internal RAID controller (similar to LSI 9240-8i) and installed ESXi without any problem. Only problem is that copying data to the data store (on the RAID array) on the host is slow - about 20 MB/s. And I get about the same speed when you try to copy data to a shared folder on the guest virtual machine. The host network is auto-négociée with switch 1000Mbit 1000Full and I used vmxnet3 vm card in the guest computer.
When I install MS Hyper-V on the same exact server with the exact same table RAID10 I get around 110 MB/s speed to copy data to the Hyper-V host.
I used the latest drivers available for each system:
ESXi 5 - LSI_5_34-455140.zip\scsi-megaraid-sas-5.34-1vmw.500.0.0.406165.x86_64.vib
Windows - 5.2.112
I have even updated the firmware card 20.10.1 - 0077.
This card is entry level but recommended on different places for ESXi. What I am doing wrong? Am I missing something?
Thank you
As I mentioned earlier, ESXi does not have caching at the level of the BONE, unlike HyperV.

Cannot find a device supported to write image vmware esxi 4.1.0
I have a Dell Poweredge R410 (service tag XXJ1FQ1) with a Raid 10 for PERC S300 controllers with 4X250GB drives.
I downloaded the iso 4.1.0 ESXI and can boot from the DVD, but after agreeing to the terms. The installation program will fail and I get this error:
«Could not find a device supported to write image VMware ESXI 4.1.0 to.»
I checked the compatibility Web site: http://partnerweb.vmware.com/comp_guide2/detail.php?deviceCategory=server & productid = 4932 deviceCategory = server & partner = 23 & releases = 24 & keyword = poweredge % 20r410 & systemTypes = 2 & page = 4 & display_interval = 10 & sortColumn = Partner & sortOrder = CSA
And my system should be OK.
Has anyone experience this problem? And how to do this?
Easy. You cannot use the card s300.
S300 work only in windows environments. I also learned that the way lasts. (Thanks Dell!)
Pick up a Perc 6 / i and you will be ready to go.
