VMware Mirage storage security

Hi all

I found the article (#2031614) the Mirage of safety storage configuration are not accessible (see URL).

  • URL: kb.vmware.com/kb/2031614

Is there an another Mirage from VMware documentation (or KB article), including the measures of security for storage of Mirage ?

Thank you and best regards,

Tony

Hi tonyyeung420,

Sorry for the inconvenience. Article is available again: VMware KB: configuration of the Mirage storage security

    Hello

during a Migration with USMT Mirage will succeed user profiles etc.

Profiles user, or at least as programs will not be crushed by Mirage if they aren't in the Baselayer / Applayer.

But, if so then programfiles and configfiles will be overwritten. This Mirage is allowed to replace, and which do not configuret in the rule layer.

  • VMware vSphere Storage Appliance license

We about to buy the enterprose version is VMware vSphere Storage Appliance referred to the esxi we about to buy?

    Thank you

The definition of "instance 1" is located at http://www.vmware.com/products/datacenter-virtualization/vsphere/vsphere-storage-appliance/faqs.html#licensing

What the Storage Appliance (VSA) vSphere license?

When buying on a stand-alone basis, vSphere Storage Appliance is licensed per instance (similar to vCenter Server). Each license supports the creation of a VSA cluster, with up to three knots.

  • VMware vSphere profile focused on service of storage AND VMware vCenter Storage Monitoring Service alerts

    Hi all

I installed VC 5.5.0b in-bound on a Windows Server 2008 mode. The Installation goes very well and everything looks good, but when I check the service of vCenter status it shows that both services have an alert

    The Services are

    Hi all!

I have a problem with 2 Server vCenter (in bound mode). Do not start monitoring services of storage with the licensing of services...

How can I start this service?

At the service of vCenter status, I have an alert 7 (screen attached).

VCenter Server 5.1.0 version; build 1064983.

So, I find the problem in config file vcdb.properties to vCenter server (c:\programdata\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\). Have been exposed to the wrong type of data and the driver to use - replaced by db2 for mssql... and the start of the service. Thank you all for the silence

  • VMware View 5 Security Server

    Hey guys,.

I have a problem with the Security server. I have installed A Windows Server 2008R2 in the DMZ.
To install the view security server, the Win2k8R2 must be in the field. This does not work because the server is in the demilitarized zone. How can I get the server to the domain?
Without doubt, I need to open ports... But wich ports i open?
and is not a security risk to open ports on the DC?
    Or is there another option?
    Best regards
    Best regards

There is no requirement for a security to a member of the domain server, these controls was only for the connection to the server or replica server role when you run the Setup program. You will need various open ports for connection server that you are to match, those that are detailed in the documentation under https://www.vmware.com/support/pubs/view_pubs.html

  • EA3500 USB storage security

I am the administrator of my HOME network and I would be the ONLY access to certain folders on a USB storage device.  I know that there is an administrator account and guest, already established which cannot be deleted.  As my HOME network admin I just type my user name and password in the admin area and then click on share?

If you use a PC open a file browser and enter the following in the address bar

    \\192.168.1.1

If you use a Mac open a browser and enter the following URL in the address bar

    SMB://192.168.1.1

You should be prompted to enter a user name and password.

In some cases, must be added the part about the end of the URL.

    Ex: \\192.168.1.1\my-share-name

  • License of VMware mirage

While performing the unit commissioning on a pending device pause difficult scenario. Mirage follows the process of centralization of endpoint after provisioning, which we cannot ignore.

For example, we have 10000 points of total endpoint in the infrastructure in which only 2000 machines are centralized (due to the limit under license purchased by the customer) to 10000, 8000 machine is waiting for the list of devices.

If a machine is not booting and lacks established CVD so can we use USB to supply the machine without any additional license?

You must have a license to provide a machine (even if you start the process with USB).

For a free license, you can archive or delete an existing CVD.

  • VMWare security

I to assess the safety of our VMware Infrastructure companies and have downloaded the tightening of security for VMware Infrastructure 3 (ESX3.5 from VMware and VMware Virtual Center2.5). We have recently improved the majority of VMware VSphere 4.0 servers. They have a Security Hardening Guide for VSphere, or is it sufficiently similar so that I can use for VMware Infrastructure 3 security hardening.

Hello and welcome to the forums.

As far as I know, there is not yet an updated version of this document.  I was looking for too.  Most (if not all) the information contained in the guide still relevant to vSphere vi3 is.  Obviously, some of the new features such as dvSwitches will not be covered, but for the most part, it's still a solid guide.

    Good luck!

  • Securing VMware Tools

Wanted to see how people were securing VMware Tools. I unchecked showing VMware Tools in the task bar, however, I'm wondering if others control the access to the executable VMware Tools.

    Mike

    Hello

    Moved to the Security Forum.

VMware Tools is secure by disabling the VMware Backdoor parameters by guest by the Guide of strengthening of VMware, DISA STIG or reference rate CISecurity.

The problem is that even if you have disabled user access to VMware Tools (which is suggested) you cannot lock a direct access to the back door, you will need to disable certain aspects of the backdoor to better protect your virtual machine.

    Hello

I am designing my first VI3.5 environment in the face of internet and I was wondering if there are problems with sharing a single SAN network between a data center VMware internal and an external datacenter, VMware.

Use different LUN for internal vs external

Do not use the iSCSI initiators in DMZ VMs

Do not use NPIV in DMZ VMs

Set your virtual computer security settings.

At this stage of design I'm not concerned with the network, just a storage security.

There usually no problem as long as your security policy supports these actions, because everything goes through ESX (with the advice above isolation). Your concern is to make sure that your San is separated from any hostile VM. IE if the CF is to be default. If it's iSCSI then separate your networks/VMs VM iSCSI networks. I would not use VLAN for that, but that's just me.
