VMware tools not installed

I installed 2 5.0 esxi servers. I installed a Server 2008 r2 on the esxi server. I can't stop or to do anything whatsoever in the toolbar. I have cliick innovations in the window to the mouse in the virtual machine. So I know that the tools are not installed or does not. I looked on all the menus and that you can find no option to install tools. the error is the guest OS can not be stopped because VMware Tools is not installed, running does not, or does not. How to solve this problem?

If you open a console prompt, you should see the toolbar superior VM-comments-installation/upgrade at level of VMware Tools

  • VMware Tools not settled in XP Pro Sp3 invited

I think that VMware tools is supposed to install drivers for these (SCSI), which are of unknown devices in my device manager and Vga adapter but it crashes in normal and safe mode on my xp after manual installation running.  Have also tried to folder on the drive.

Anyway to get these installed and get VMware tools running?

Also MY XP hangs after logging in normal mode and in safe mode I get error blue screen after awhile 0X0000008E and similar.

Yes I am the administrator also - I'm using the official XP administrator account (account first when it was setup) but still the problem.  There maybe some group policy or the registry thing/permissions setting (I have set permissions as approved for the application installer and still issue).  Don't know what else to try.  In any case thanks for trying to help.  Let me know if you think of something else.

Hi I think that question could have been set by the combination of responses - I tried to configure the virtual machine through my windows 8.1 host VMWare converter standalone 5.5.1 - selection only add Vmware Tools (later) and remove restore points and after responsible for this virtual machine without register suspended or system crash or wedging.  VMware tools of the 6 worm drive was also loading and installation had to find setup.exe and run it from ISO loaded manually (when selected for the installation of the player window - Player - manage - install Vmware Tools).  However obtained related permissions errors and install the first roll back (see attached screenshots).  Then I loaded the regedit and set of local service, service network and administrator name real current user in its entirety with all permissions to access these key: HKLM system services and under software - perflib under Microsoft - Windows NT - current worm (although the latter do not know if it had to) - missed me the perflib key being added if it based on another doc help on the internet.
Then restart may have helped also but Vmware tools installed without error and in Device Manager I also removed any? and unknown devices, but my SCSI and VGA drivers now loading properly.

Thank you and thank all those who contributed to this issue - so seems a problem now solved.  Your answers have helped keep research regarding permissions and versions of vmware and reminded me to try to reconfigure etc. have been so helpful.  I hope that these positions help others facing similar problems.

Bought a new iMac and bought Fusion 5 Pro.  I have a 5 year old and reclassified iMac Fusion 4-5 fusion and had no problems.  The new computer is for my wife and I tried and tried to migrate the laptop and it failed every time.  So, I did a clean install of Windows 7 and before I downloaded everything that I installed VMWare Tools.  For the past 2 days, I was passage of the files from the laptop and install programs that she had on the laptop.  Problems with Word and excel as they sit a spin.  Money went to re - install VMware Tools and it launches the installation program and then comes up with an error message... Error 1606: Could Not Access Network Location \\<host>\users\administrator\my documents

Went into Windows to uninstall VMware tools and he started the uninstall program then stopped and got the same message.  I can not uninstall tools and cannot re - install the tools.  I need help to solve this problem.  I'm a guy of plug-and-play and if there is code to do, in my opinion, I'm sunk.

The file is not missing, I'm interested in it right now in archive of gun zipper VMwareTools - 8.8.4 - 743747.tar.gz located in the VMware Tools for VMware Workstation 8.0.4 linux.iso file.

FWIW, I always install VMware Tools on Linux from a root shell (su - (including Ubuntu)) and the cd vmware-tools-distrib directory and start the installation simply with ./vmware-install.pl just like the instructions say to do, and it usually works without problem by providing that the prerequisites are met.

  • Ovftool from VMware is not install/work on VMware vMA 4.0?

Tried to install 64-bit ovftool on VMware vMA 4.0 today and he could not install or give any useful information:

    [vi-admin@scofield]$ ./VMware-ovftool-installer-1.0.0-166674-lin.x86_64.sh

    VMware OVF Tool installer script
    Copyright VMware 2009
    .........extracting archive........

    Checksum validation failed for archive.
(If you use FTP, make sure to set it to binary mode)

As far as I know, the binary is actually included in the installation script, but I'm not sure why "FTP" is referenced here unless VMware is expected to download the actual source? I hope that, as the vMA is a VMware virtual appliance that it should support utilities "VMwae", but from what I've seen in the past with VDDK and VIX, is not always and not is generally not the case.

Can someone comment or know how to install?

    Thanks for your time

  • Get the Guest OS family and full name of PowerCLI VM Tools not installed OS?

OK, been looking for this one, but need help...  If a virtual computer is turned off, or do not have installed VMware tools you can not get the OS or OS full name family?  Who can simply not be right... it's in the VMX file, in the UI Client VI, PowerCLI must so be able to get some how, right?  Someone has tackled this one!  Right?

    Partly right.

The operating system that you see in the VIC or the VMX is what the creator of the host defined during the creation.

It corresponds with the parameter - ID on the New - VM cmdlet.

For more information on this ID, see errors during the GuestIDs of New - VM specification .

The problem is that the creator of the prompt can define what he wants here, it does not match with the actual OS installed on the client!

You can get this entry like this

    (Get-VM | Get-View).summary.config.guestFullName

  • VMware will not install

    Hello world

I downloaded VMware 5.0.2.1031769. After I press on enter on the installation package all that I get is the configuration blocked at this window:

    vmware.jpg

    And nothing else.
    Tried several times without success.

I tried even with 4.0.5.89893925 but with the same question. Whenever I have to call the Task Manager and complete the installation.

    Host computer is equipped with an AMD64 3000 + @2 GHz, 1 GB RAM DDR400 under Windows XP Professional SP3 (x 86).

    What's wrong?

    Welcome to the community,

Please take a look at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1027986 to see if that solves the problem. This is often caused by a registry entry incorrect for the Internet areas.

  • VMWare Tools installed and not installed...

    3.5.0u4 ESX3i

I created a Ubuntu VM. Then I added VMWare tools via the settings / installation/upgrade of VMware Tools

Yet, when I look in the summary of this Ubuntu VM tab, it says:

Why is it (a power power off of the virtual machine does not change it)?

What you were doing just before the guest system the VMware Tools CD .iso image file. On the host Windows installation should start automatically. For Linux, you will need to mount the CD, copy the files from there to the directory and use the .tar and .rpm to install the tools.

  • FreeBSD on ESX4 VMware tools

Is that what someone has successfully installed vmware tools on a FreeBSD virtual machine under ESX 4?  I have a vSphere 4.0 test environment I am doing an upgrade from 3.5 to 4.0 on before this on my production servers and have problems vmware-tools on FreeBSD 7.1 and 7.2 to be considered good working condition by vCenter.

Specifically, I installed the tools of the file vmware-freebsd - tool.tar on VMware-tools-freebsd-116369 iso, which is the package tools currently referenced, on FreeBSD 7.1 and 7.2 facilities.  It's the same setup file that I used successfully on several FreeBSD installs under 3.5.

The Installer seems to install fine, and the demon starts normally.  But for these virtual machines, I have improved on 3.5 to 4.0 hosts, vCenter (4.0) reports "VMware Tools: not installed".

I also tried new construction FreeBSD 7.1 and 7.2 virtual machines on the 4.0 hosts upgraded, and this, after installing the vmware tools, report "VMware Tools: obsolete.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I just spent a week working with VMware support on this same exact question, and we found a resolution that works.

Their official response, it's because of FreeBSD do not supported on older versions of ESX 4.0. The new freebsd.iso included with vSphere awaits a guest with version 7 of material. Because the machines were created before the upgrade to vSphere, the hardware version is 4. VMS also appear with a guest operating system type of "Other Linux", because FreeBSD is not possible before.

Their solution is to uninstall the existing tools of the VM and stop the FreeBSD Guest. Then right click on the computer and upgrade virtual hardware. Then you will be able to change the type of operating system asked the new option other > FreeBSD. Start the machine and mount the iso freebsd and install the tools. It should show OK now. I know that sounds a bit risky to force the upgrade of equipment without the tools are installed, but I did it on 4 machines so far and they run a lot.

    Hope this helps you.

  • VMware tools are not installed

I have vmware player v6 on a windows machine

I installed windows 7 as a virtual machine on a windows computer, but I can't get vmware tools to install - because the installation process does not start.

In the vmware window, I click on manage/player/install VMware tools and nothing happens, never. I get no start installation upward. So I tried also to start/run/D:\setup and I get "Please insert a disc into the dvd drive. It's so useless, nothing I will get the installer to start and after trawling google ages each page says the same thing, which is what I tried already and who never works. WTF |. I have to do to get the vmware tools installer to run?

Edit: I also tried to download and tools-windows - 9.6.1.exe running and who has done sweet FA as well.

If you are using VMware Player 6.0,1 on a Windows host and you want to install VMware Tools in Windows 7, then do what follows is workaround to which question you encounter that does not automatically download the VMware Tools.

Tools-windows - 9.6.1.exe.tar on the host, not the comments, download and unzip it.  Then run the file tools-windows - 9.6.1.exe.  This (silently) installs VMware Tools for Windows (windows.iso) in the working directory of VMware Player.  You should then be able to install VMware Tools normally on the Menu, but if it doesn't work then fix the windows.iso of CD/DVD virtual machine and run the installation from the Windows virtual machine.

I've tried versions both 6.0.1 and 6.0.2 darwin.iso for VMware Fusion. but the same error.   I wonder what VMware is actually audit to determine the versions of operating system.   I have in the past summer success install the same software on the same computer, but I have tried to reinstall from scratch (more than once) and tried many changes of setting on both hosts and guests with no joy.   Anyone know how to fix?

who was happy to install VMware tools...

I'll tell you one last time...  When clean install OS X 10.9 Mavericks under VMware Fusion 6.0.2 VMware Tools are not automatically installed!

In addition, it turns out that the "internal" or "removable" made no difference that I was able to move the vmdk from SATA, SCSI (appears inside the system) but that made no difference either but has been tested

I have mentioned that the drive internal vs external because VMware Fusion before 6.0.2 has not created a good installer for OS X 10.9 Mavericks nor was it settled the case, and the fact that it was not properly installed may have been a contributing factor to the VMware Tools install problem not necessarily imply that the disk shows as external!

I wonder if there is another way to install VMware Tools manually?  I can see the directory structure exposed within the darwin.iso but don't know if I can cp

This straight out of the iso, but not being is not a Mac OSX expert... don't know if I can run alternate and no package installer idea what files are changed by install VMware Tools.

Still confident enough, I can work around the issue of the installer.

I just tested this on a clean build and with the help of pacifists opened the VMware Tools.pkg (Install VMware Tools.app/Contents/Resources/VMware Tools.pkg) in the bundle 'Install VMware Tools.app' on darwin.iso (VMware Tools for OS X) and "Selected files.pkg content" then clicked on install and check 'use administrator privileges '.  He basically just moved the files in places and then after that I restarted the computer virtual VMware Tools seem to work.  I tested VMware shared folders, copy & paste, drag & drop, and change the resolution of the screen... all seem to work fine, however it was simply intended as a test and not a recommended method to install VMware Tools and I don't know if it is essentially a complete installation.  I don't have the time now to analyze the two occurrences, one made appropriately and the other using pacifists to see if there is in fact no difference.

I was also going to take the vmdk to another platform and see if any difference (doubt it will be)

Any platform with not brand hardware Apple is a direct violation of the SLA products and may not be discussed in these forums!

VMware has removed the applet of the control panel and system Notification in VMware Player 5 and VMware Workstation 9 icon so that you see is normal and expected.  Some features of VMware Tools are available in the configurations of the Virtual Machine on the host side.

How can I properly install VMware Tools in the virtual machine again?

If you have already uninstalled/reinstalled you don't need to do anything.  If you can drag and drop files between the computers in office then VMware Tools are installed and working.  Also if the unit and the VMware shared folders work (for supported operating systems) once again here are the signs that VMware Tools are installed and working.
