VMWare Tools/Ubuntu 9.04 edition - "Failed to generate the vmhgfs module."

Because vmhgfs have not built correctly during the installation of VMWare tools, I can't access my VMWare "Shared Folders".

I tried to create a new virtual machine in VMWare Fusion 2.0.4 (159196) run Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) using the installer of ubuntu - 9.04 - desktop - i386.iso. When creating the virtual machine I HAVE NOT used the "Linux Easy install".

Once installation is complete, I tried to install the VMWare tools. Everything was going along fine, until the VMWare tools installer gave the error "failed to generate the vmhgfs module. Now I'm unable to access the "shared folders" through VMWare.

It's the relevant output of the installation of VMWare tools:

Could not generate the vmhgfs module.
The filesystem (vmhgfs module) driver is used only for the shared folder
feature. The rest of the software provided by VMware Tools is designed to work
regardless of this function.
If you want the shared folders feature, you can install the driver of
running vmware-config - tools.pl again after making sure that gcc, binutils, make
and your kernel sources are installed on your computer.
These packages are available on the installation of your distribution CD.

A blog at http://laptopbisnis.blogspot.com/2009/04/ubuntu-904-beta-in-vmware-fusion.html this problem and the solution is to change a line in the file page.c, re - tar file updated the and then restart the installation of VMWare tools. When I try to re-run the installation of VMWare tools, however, I get the following error:

The following VMware kernel modules were found on your system that have been
not installed by Setup of VMware.  Please, remove them and then run this
installation program again.
vmxnet
vmblock
VMCI
vmmemctl
Be - ' rm /lib/modules/2.6.28-11-generic/misc/ & lt; ModuleName & gt;. {o, k}'
The execution is canceled.

Any help would be appreciated.

The instructions in the blog worked well to solve the problems of hgfs.

However, I'd suggest the following sequence:

a. run vmware - uninstall - tools.pl (if you get what other messages on modules installed)

b. create the vmware-tools-distrib directory

c. apply the hotfix according to the directives of the blog page

d. run vmware - install.pl

If all else fails, follow the suggestion of the error message to delete the modules 'by hand' and then re-run the installation

This article was created when users have faced problem with old drivers for AMD graphics card.

Yes, you can upgrade to the last 16.1 pilots and who should work well however, you should have 1 GB VRAM or more to take advantage of the GPU processors.

Do not use shared folders to access the virtual machine.

Use a drive letter - or
just start the virtual machine and use the remote clone function

Any ideas when we have an updated which will build on the latest kernel WMWare tools or how can I fix?

    Necator americanus-NB https://bugs.Launchpad.NET/Ubuntu/ source/open-vm-tools /bug/598542

Experience, both VMWare and Parallels tend to do updates to their tools to release the release of these operating systems is set up.

There is also a chance that the version of the kernel or X may be updated as new builds of Ubuntu 10.10 become available. I guess that they do not want to spend time to update tools and then find two weeks they need to do it again.

If your spending a lot of time using UNIX/Linux product beta, I would recommend running VirtualBox for those, as the tools are updated more quickly. Just be sure to not try and run a VirtualBox VM and a VMWare Fusion virtual machine at the same time - you will get a Mac OS x kernel panic.

  • Problem installing vmware in Ubuntu 11.10 tools

I've upgraded from vmware workstation 7 to 8 on a windows 7 pro workstation. I've added to my VM - 11.10 Ubuntu guest. Now I have a problem installing vmware tools.  That's what I did:

((1) installed Ubuntu 11.10 CD in the drive, 2) open vmware and Tools CD added to office.  (3) connect you open terminal window.and.  Since I'm new to Linux, I'm stuck on how to set a password.  I type sudo passwd root, and I can't type anything in the window.

Ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

    You have two questions unrealated

    (1) with respect to the OS - Ubuntu 11.10 - these shoud guest invited on ubuntuforums.org Creafe a connection there and ask in the beginner's forum.

Tip - You don't really have need a password for root in Ubuntu.  Use you sudo to run root permisssions wherer programs are needed.  He said on top of each terminal.

    (2) you have any questions on how to install VMware Tools in a Linux (Ubuntu 11.10) Guest.  You most certainly need assistance with this.  In the toolbar of the program, you will see a tab called "Help".  It only contained other information you are looking for.

See the sections on VMware Tools.   They are really useful!

Tip: You do not use the OS installation disc that you used to create the virtual machine. Look closely under the VM tab at the top. There will be an option in the drop-down list that says "The Install Vmware Tools" you need to select this option.  The insatll will be mounted as if by magic in SLE directory/Media in the comments.  Copy the tarred on this cdrom in / tmp.  Then naviagate (carefully) in / tmp and unpack the file you copied.  Carefully change (look at you spelling - do what I say - not as I do in this post!) to the directoyrf that was created.  Exceute as su (i.e. root - like in the 1 trick.)  the .pl program wiil be contain breast.  Technically, this is called a "script" don't forget to put a. / before the script name or the bad dthing don't know he lives there.  He will ask youj on many issues.  Answer Yes to all these thatg you can.  Most likely, he will say he does not find the gcc compiler (gcc to learn more about the new program of thisbrfand the man.  He complains of missing headers.  Exit the script (Ctrl + c).  Run a progarlm (as root!) called apt - get.  Type the command apt - get install build-esseential.  Thatt is going to install the compiler you need!   Yes still needs to install the header ogical file well! Phew!  The best way I found to do this is to install a nifty program called synaptic. Use apt - get install synaptic.  I think that Ubuntu even comes with a somewahat more easy to program called apt - get it will tell you and have fun there no Super Powers mean if you type an incorrect order!   I digress from the subject.   So, you can use use "sudo aptitude install synaptic l.  Now issue the command uname - r.  He sleeps on the same kernel you use since I use Ubuntu 11.10 asI type while I'm about to uplgrade to the very scary Ubuntu 12.04.  You don't want to do it yourself.

    3.0.0 - 12-Generic

Now launch Synaptic.  There will be a message the first time on the program expalining.  If you want to see it every time to understand this program if y0ou forget don't check the box saying you don't wang to see this every time.  BTW youi will be asked for your root passworfd to run the program.  Hope you rfemembered it!

In any case in the search box copy, then paste the result above (one that ends with - generic - but anything copylthe) there will be l be a long list of items, but choose the one that has the string above and the word "headers".  Insatll who.  After all it can return to the order which took end. / pl and run it once more.  Answere questions.  It will end with the encouraging words (you can take advantage of the VMware Tools.  Then, run the command - vmware-toolbox as it says.

F well there you have it in short.  My price for Linux and Mwar advice is reawsonable please contact me at one of my addresses, alias - [email protected] and we can talk about payment.

    What should I do?

Looking at your mistakes, you seem to have an earlier version of the tools which are not uninstaled or tools are coming from another source when the installation program checks the files are already claimed. I first uninstall everything that claims these files and possibly clean/regen your db packace if necessary. Then, reinstall the tools and see if you still get errors with no alert clobber.

  • VMware Tools obsolete. update problems

I use VMare Fusion on my MacBook running 10.6.4 2.0.6; Windows OS is XP Home Edition SP3

I find more applications that previously did not work well in OSX now running on my MacBook (i.e., various applications of Garmin) and I rarely starts in Windows.

However, not long ago I started in the Windows and saw the alert, "VMware tools is obsolete. Choose Virtual Machine > install VMwre Toold Menu. "I did it and it failed miserably. I lost tools completely, everything was a bloody mess.

I moved my folder of the Virtual Machine to a backup on my MacBook to MacBook; I'm back to a point where everything is fine but I am also, of course, get the "VMware tools is obsolete. Choose the Virtual Machine. Installing VMwre Toold Menu. "

When I choose "VM Menu > install VMwre Toold", I get this alert: you cannot install the VMware Tools package until the guest operating system is running. If your guest operating system is not running, click Cancel and install the VMware Tools package later.  But if I did the merger and then logged on to Windows, the comment system IS running; or am I missing something here?  My problem arises because I ignored this warning the first time I saw and click OK.

Some good soul has the time and patience to explain what I'm obviously missing here so I can do and to update the VMware Tools?

Thanks a lot, a lot, if anyone can

  • problem of rookie when installing vmware tools

I installed VMware Tools successfully, but when I try to configure the real GUI, told me that I must be an administrator to perform tasks. I tried to change (what I thought was root) my login to an administrator and tried to do a su - root in Terminal mode. Order root authentication fails. I tried this in Ubuntu and Fedora when I know that the only created account was the one I use. I have to redo the installation and create the first user "root"? I don't get a sign # in mode Terminal - just the sign $. My main goals are to allow a reader to CD-ROM and full screen.

    Hello, try

    sudo su

    instead of su - root

  • Catch 22 tries to install VMware Tools

I created a Windows 7 VM from a physical PC. I 'play' on a Player 10 Windows via VMware Workstation 12 host, connect to the guest and then click on the "Install tools" button in the player. I see this error message:

"The virtual machine must have a virtual CD/DVD device to install VMware Tools."

OK, so I turned off the guest who also ends the player, rerun the player, select the virtual machine and click on "Edit virtual machine settings". On the Hardware tab, I click on the Add button, select "reader of CD/DVD", click Next, select the "use ISO image" radio button (because I guess that's what the error message means by "virtual CD/DVD"), and then click Next, and then I get invited to an ISO image. And that's the Catch 22 - the error message indicates that the player has just need a virtual device, not an ISO, but when I try to add a virtual device, the player wants an ISO.

How to break this vicious circle and install VMware Tools?

I thought about it myself the answer to a question on the superuser. Here are the steps:

    1. Stop the virtual machine
    2. Run the drive and select the virtual machine
    3. Click on "Edit virtual machine settings".
    4. Click on "Add..." "in the Hardware tab
    5. Select "CD/DVD Drive", and then click Next
    6. Select the "use ISO image" radio button and click Next
    7. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x 86) \VMware\VMware drive and double-click windows.iso
    8. Uncheck the box "Connect to light" (probably any) and click on finish
    9. Click OK
    10. Click on "Play virtual machine."
    11. Log on to the virtual computer
    12. Click installation tools
    13. Follow the instructions in the installer
  • ESXi 5.1.0.u2 lost vmware tools

It is a host vmware House. I run ESXi on a USB key.

I've created a guest today and went to install vmware-tools and this message is returned:

Call 'VirtualMachine.MountToolsInstaller' of object 'Fedora20' on ESXi 'esxi-mgmt' failed.

Cannot install VMware Tools. An error occurred trying to access the image file ' / usr/lib/vmware/isoimages/linux.iso ' to install VMware Tools: 0 (no such file or directory). If your product comes with the module of VMware tools, VMware ESX to reinstall, then try again to install the VMware Tools package in the virtual machine.

I ssh'd in the host and it is isoimages->/productLocker/vmtools listed in Red listed, but does not seem to exist.

A few days ago, I created a machine virtual windows and installed the vmware-tools very well.

don't know what happened. the House has had a power outage, but I thought I shut the servers down the fine.

I need to reinstall this version of ESXi? If I did, will current mt vm s run yet?

Yes. If you copy the ISO images in this directory. ESX server will be able to install tools
