VMware tools

When I decide to use the style pension RHEL based tools vmwrae, I take a step back, he me reason not to do so, update-tools-NoReboot - RunAsync, pls correct me if wrong

I think that only works when we have the tools are installed using the mount traditinal CD

Also it is a big limitation, Vmware release new patches every 2 to 3 months, now, if we have repo in a central nas mount, we need to upgrade this repo often so if you said Chief revenue you must update etc, update-Tools is so much easier with update-tools is easier and does not need updated repo & updated recipes from the head (for that matter puppet thing), all entries or suggestion or am I missing something here?

Thank you

As far as I know, Yes.

RHEL based repository is intended for virtual computers that run a Linux guest operating system.

And Yes, you will maintain this directory.

The advantage is that you can install/upgrade VMware Tools in your Linux virtual machines in the same way as other SW packages.

The cmdlet Update-Tools works only in ESXI ISO files.

    Hello

I tried to update the version of VMware FOV tools, but all that seemed to do is strip out...  Any ideas on how to retrieve and update, including the virtual hardware version also?

    Thank you very much.

    Alex.

    Hi Alex,

Installation of the tools is a feature of vCenter and VMware would better understand if there is a problem with the installation.  Their support may be able to help solve the problem you are experiencing.

That being said, I would like to offer assistance if I can.  I installed VMware tools in the same way that you have described.  In the past, if I had a problem installing, vCenter would let know me the reason why.  It would also seem that if tools have been "stripped" of the existing virtual machine.

I suspect that something similar is happening in your environment.

I can't be sure this link applies, but we found this VMware.

VMware support should be able to help you further with the installation of the tools. Unfortunately, because it is not our product, I can only offer advice on how to solve the problem with the installation of the tools.

HI - not sorry that it's not, you will have to do it in vCenter. (there is no such thing a stupid question on these forums!)

  • Update the vmWare tools in VoP via vCenter

I'm still new to this community and I hope I'll catch up here soon, but I'm not sure of the update process the vmtools on the device of VoP. I know once I spunt'sand he upwards and configured the IP etc, the vCenter as the tools were obsolete. Tonight is our night of patch management and we'd get VoP abreast, as far as tools go. What is the process to get this done? Do I just shoot vCenter or are there steps to perform on the server of VoP so.

Thank you in advance for your help!

    Hi David,

You can update VMWare Tools on the device in the same way as you would for any virtual machine of OpenSUSE Linux.  This can be done manually from the console if vCenter may not withdraw that, alone.

    I hope this helps!

  • Create a workflow to upgrade VMWare tools

We have an alert to tell clients VMWare tools is out of date, can someone create a workflow that would allow them to begin the upgrade.

ActionPack for VMware vCenter does not provide the necessary steps to create this workflow from including 5.5.8 release with vFoglight 6.5.1.

We CAN fix this in future versions. Stay tuned.

  • VMWare Workstation 12 and 18 of Linux Mint (Ubuntu 16.04) and vmware tools or open-vmware-tools

I created a new virtual machine using VMWare Workstation 12.1.1 build-3770994 with a guest OS from Linux Mint 18 (which is built on top of Ubuntu 16.04). I have two monitors on my system, the two 2560 x 1440. I am unable to get this virtual machine Linux Mint 18 to cover all of my two monitors when I disable "Accelerate 3D graphics" in my vm settings, I get an error. I have another Linux Mint 17 VM running on the same VMWare Workstation 12 on the same host machine from Windows 10 and it is able to expand on my two monitors very well with "Accelerate 3D graphics" disabled, but he does not open-vmware-tools.

I have read instructions telling me to install open-vm-Tools-Office in this guest operating system of Linux Mint 18. I did it. Then I restart the guest operating system. When starting, I can click on 'Enter full screen mode' in my menu of VMWare Workstation, and the guest OS has a monitor as expected. When I then click on "Cycle multiple monitors", I get the following error. "The virtual machine could not be changed to the selected screen layout. If you add a monitor to the host computer, you must turn off and turn on the virtual machine to use this monitor. »

    vmware-monitors-error.jpg

I can optimize my VM to automatic adjustment, only one of my two screens, but not both. I tried to uninstall and reinstall open-vm-tools, open-vm-tools-desktop and restart. I tried to use /vmware-tools-distrib/vmware-install.pl's original vmware tools and who does not work either.

In my vmware.log, I get these two lines that occur when I get the above error.

    2016 07-12 T 15: 43:19.068 - 06:00 | MKS | I125: ToolsSetDisplayTopology: send rpcMsg = 1 DisplayTopology_Set, 0 0 2560 1440

    2016 07-12 T 15: 43:24.853 - 06:00 | vCPU-1 | I125: TOOLS of the call to DisplayTopology_Set failed.

When I activate "Accelerate 3D graphics" with the configuration described above, I am able to use both of my monitors. Why is this the case?

I think remember having to disable "Accelerate 3D graphics" in my Linux Mint 17 comments vm because it would crash randomly. I try to run this VM Linux Mint 18 with 3D acceleration and see if it crashes, but why is there a difference with spanning multiple monitors?

    Thank you.

I didn't experience this problem for a few weeks. I don't have a definitive answer to my original problem.

I installed Mate instead of cinnamon 3 to my MINT 18. Then, I created a new VM with Ubuntu Gnome 3 16.04 running as the OF. I did have problems with both approaches. I also tried using Firefox as my main browser instead of Chrome, as I read that Chrome can have problems of memory. It could be a combination of several of these changes that have allowed me to work without problems.

Knowing what I know now, I think the move away from cinnamon 3 is what seems to have fixed my problems. I can certainly say that you use Firefox consumes less memory, as I can monitor the monitor system under Ubuntu. Chrome would eventually eat all my system memory, that I could see. The extent of the why? I'm not sure at this point.

    I can't find any explanation of VMUICOM error 0 x 80004005.

Note that this error occurred before before the 12.1.1 update and is still ongoing.

I think that building tools that currently is 10.0.1.357.

No idea how to solve this problem?

It turns out that the problem was caused by McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention 8 running on the host computer. It is the firewall component, not the component virus protection.

Part of intrusion detection is 'VMware Workstation shielding - file Modification. Probably there's some bad signatures, because he sees any attempt to change the files .iso in VMware Tools as an attack.  This includes:

    • Installation of VMware Launcher, as when VMware is modernized
    • Windows Installer that are managed by the system, for example when VMware tries to download and install new tools
    • User who attempts to remove or rename files

So the tools .iso files are frozen in time: they cannot be changed even by a complete uninstall and reinstallation of VMware Workstation, and still less a version upgrade.

The surprising thing is that a change to a file is blocked by the HIP, which is well beyond what you expect normally to a firewall.  That's why it took me so long to realize it was the root cause.

Work is about to open the HIP interface, and then temporarily disable Host IPS in the IPS policy. While the IPS is disabled you can go forward with VMware Workstation or tools to level, then turn on IPS.

The permanent solution would be to get McAfee to fix the signature HIP. There are release notes that say that this is not the first time the functionality of VMware Workstation armor has had false positives.

  • How the news works of linux vmware-tools associated with the support of actions HGFS?

Just to clarify, if it is possible to get from VMware Tools for Linux Guest users qualified/developer/maintainer.

If memory serves me right, from 12 Workstation, VMware Tools for modified Linux related with the way it handles stocks HGFS.

Installation of VMware tools on many Linux guests, I always see the same behavior.

In some installations it build hgfs module, in others it seems fair to connect on vmhgfs-fuse executable. No module hgfs not charged in this case of the kernel then HGFS works as expected.

Exactly how it works under the hood, how to install VMware Tools/config, can determine whether it is necessary to build the module or just run vmhgfs-fuse?

Well, strange person, not even VMware guys come on this subject. IMHO is a really interesting thing, I almost always use shared folders between guests and hosts, it's so easy and simple WHEN IT WORKS.

The fact that no-one comes on this thread, show what I think always: products like workstation are profoundly less used, average people IMHO use 30/40 per cent of the potential software.

Then, with a few hours and a few Linux guests many kind in hand machines (work with tools in both modes, hgfs.ko or fuse), investigated and found how it works by myself.

    This is what I found.

Recent versions of VMware Tools for Linux now seems to check the fuse package installed on guest system installed and when they found him, they try to use vmhgfs-fuse (formerly an Open-vm-tools executable) to mount hgfs actions without the need of the hgfs.ko module and so without needing to compile the module often broken kernel. For example, hgfs.ko thin build up to kernel branch 4.4 and it is broken again on 4.5.

The script vmware-config - tools.pl also seems power - also when it detects the fuse package - properly configure autostart for hgfs share.

That's all, and it's very useful for me. Hope it will be for others.

  • How to prevent the VMware Tools reset the size of my text on 4 k display

    Hello

I use 12 Workstation on a Dell XPS 15 9550 with a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 (4 k).  I was able to move on virtual machines running Win 7 from another system where the virtual machines were running at a resolution of 1920 x 1080.  These virtual machines are now running at 1920 x 1080 on the Dell.  (I did it by using the VM settings > display and set a max and running full screen resolution).  The problem is that the text and icons are displayed at 150% the size. I can use the Win 7 Desktop > resolution to 100% and everything is the way I need it, but when I do this change, VMware Tools appears saying that I need to log out and back in.  If I do this the text/icons are at 150%.

How can I get VMware Tools to stop the reset of this size from 100% to 150%?

    Thank you.

    Here is the solution:

    > Turn on the virtual machine.

    > Click VM > settings > select view.

    > Uncheck the option scale to display "automatically adjust the size of the user interface on the VM.

    > Disconnect and connect when VMware Tools invites.

    > You can now change the font size in the virtual machine to 100%.

    > Disconnect and connect.

  • VMWare tools really necessary?

    Hello community,

I got a very generic question about VMWare tools. I have a few Ubuntu LTS server only without X 14.04 deployed machines. I don't require any USB. I still need to install VMWare tools? Who helps me somehow outside the support of USB?

not technically. He could buy access you to device drivers, nic, etc. It also allows you to access directly to the host Service to run with VMrun commands. But no, it is not necessary.

  • Catch 22 tries to install VMware Tools

I created a Windows 7 VM from a physical PC. I 'play' on a Player 10 Windows via VMware Workstation 12 host, connect to the guest and then click on the "Install tools" button in the player. I see this error message:

"The virtual machine must have a virtual CD/DVD device to install VMware Tools."

OK, so I turned off the guest who also ends the player, rerun the player, select the virtual machine and click on "Edit virtual machine settings". On the Hardware tab, I click on the Add button, select "reader of CD/DVD", click Next, select the "use ISO image" radio button (because I guess that's what the error message means by "virtual CD/DVD"), and then click Next, and then I get invited to an ISO image. And that's the Catch 22 - the error message indicates that the player has just need a virtual device, not an ISO, but when I try to add a virtual device, the player wants an ISO.

How to break this vicious circle and install VMware Tools?

I thought about it myself the answer to a question on the superuser. Here are the steps:

    1. Stop the virtual machine
    2. Run the drive and select the virtual machine
    3. Click on "Edit virtual machine settings".
    4. Click on "Add..." "in the Hardware tab
    5. Select "CD/DVD Drive", and then click Next
    6. Select the "use ISO image" radio button and click Next
    7. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x 86) \VMware\VMware drive and double-click windows.iso
    8. Uncheck the box "Connect to light" (probably any) and click on finish
    9. Click OK
    10. Click on "Play virtual machine."
    11. Log on to the virtual computer
    12. Click installation tools
    13. Follow the instructions in the installer
