VMware VIew 5.3 with SQL 2008 R2 Express
Hello world!
I'm about to deploy VMware View 5.3.
I'll use a linked clone pool with 100 workstations.
Can I use SQL 2008 R2 Express X 64 for the composer?
Y at - there any restrictions I can find in the future?
Oh, I give bad link VMware View the database to screen sizing & #187; myvirtualcloud.net . Yes, he should be allowed to use Express even for 100 clones, but only for the View Composer database. AFAIK it is recommended not to use SQL Express for vCenter database if you want to run more than 50 virtual machines, BUT it is old recommendation and with the current SQL Express limited 10 GB and 1 CPU or 4 cores, you can also use it to vCenter database I think.

What version of VMware View is compatible with vSphere 5.1?
Greetings,
I checked the compatibility tables and I watched that indicated that no version of VMware View was compatible with vSphere 5.1.
Tom
You will have to wait until VMware releases a hotfix or an update that is compatible with vSphere 5.1. Usually short gap between the release of vSphere and a compatible version of the view.

SQL 2008 r2 Express, create a database in a local file
How can I create and CONNECT to a database that is not stored in my PROGRAMS folder. SQL 2008 R2 Express allows me to create a database in the subdirectory of PROGRAMS located in the subdirectory SQL 2008 R2 in the PROGRAMS directory. I want to keep the database in C:/MyDataBase I can't seem to connect to a database except those that are stored in the subdirectory SQL. Is this a limitation of SQL 2008 R2 Express?
Hi jvcommander,
Your question of Windows is more complex than what is generally answered in the Microsoft Answers forums. It is better suited for the public on TechNet SQL Server. Please post your question in the TechNet forum.

Update Manager is not compatible with SQL 2008 Standard edition?
I noticed in the documentation for compatibility, all in vCenter Server 4 shows also compatible with standard SQL 2008, vSphere Update Manager not compatible with her poster (if it does not say that it is compatible with the version of the Enterprise edition). Is this correct? I've seen other discussions here, which indicates that, in some cases, the documentation is wrong. Someone at - he here tried running vSphere Update Manager with a SQL 2008 Standard database and I can confirm that it does or does not work?

Can VMware View - I connect with Microsoft RDP?
Hello world
Can I connect via the Microsoft's RDP client Vmware View environment? No view, just Microsoft RDP client. I have a thin client model and just support Microsoft RDP Protocol. I want to connect environment seen through this customer.
Thank you.
Grosbois
You MUST have a client of VMware view. Then you can connect through it to view desktop using PCoIP or RDP Protocol.
You will be able to connect to the desktop using RDP display if your thin client is located in the same subnet (and if RDP is enabled on the desktop to view server and you know its ip address) but would not use vmware view (if you want to connect directly to your desktop from RDP Why would you need to notice), which would also directly access to a machine as you access all the other Windows VM.
And its always advisable to disable direct RDP on view desktops.

DG4MSQL v11.2.0.1 certified with Sql Server 2005 Express Edition?
We are working on a proof of concept and to do database gateway for MS Sql Server - DG4MSQL version 11.2 - Oracle on 64-bit Linux to connect to a Windows database that uses SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. I have reviewed the matrix certification for database gateways and it indicates that SQL Server 2005 is certified - but does not specify what editions.
We have some problems to connect to the SQL Server database and want to make sure that we should be able to connect to the express edition.
Thank you.Yes, DG4MSQL 11 is certified with SQL Server Express Edition.

Configuration of SQL 2008 R2, Enterprise Edition for vCenter Server 5.1
Greetings to all seasons.
Kind of a newbie here. That's my lab environment.
I have always used the vCenter Server install Simple option that also installs the shipped Microsoft SQL 2008 R2 Express edition.
Now, I do an eval of vSphere 5.1 and I want to manually configure a database server using the Microsoft SQL 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition.
I know how to install the database server and it works. But I do not know how exactly set up a database for vCenter Server.
I looked at the guide Configuration / Installation of vSphere and I don't seem to be able to follow the preparation vCenter Server databases section, because I'm not a person to the database. Y at - it any other guide or a blog, I can follow? I searched a lot and found everything I was looking for. Thought I would ask here.
Here are the virtual machines I have.
Lab - DC1 (domain controller)
Lab - DC2 (domain controller)
Lab-SQL1 (SQL 2008 R2, Enterprise Edition)
Lab-SQL2 (SQL 2008 R2 Enterprise - subsequently configure failover clustering)
Lab-VC1(vCenter Server 1)
Any help is appreciated!
Happy holidays. Here is a link to another site with a nice installation guide for SQL 2008 for VMware. Version 4.x, published in lonesysadmin.net was very helpful, so I'm sure that the 5.x update (have not read through it again) must be all too packed with useful tips.

Hello
I have here a nice problem. We had a former TMS (v.13.1) Server installed to MS 2003 R2 with SQL 2005.
The export of the DB has been problem free.
Now, we need to upgrade the operating system to MS 2008 R2 64 bit. We had installed the TMS Version 13.1.2 with SQL 2008.
How can I import the old DB for new MSDS?
Who has an idea or if it is?
Greetings

Hi all
We plan to spend our SQL 2005 a 2008R2 server. In the Installation of TMS and Quick Start Guide (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/telepresence/infrastructure/tms/install_guide/Cisco_TMS_Install_Getting_Started_Guide_13-1.pdf , page 6), they say that all versions of SQL 2008 are supported, but we must be sure that this includes the SQL 2008R2. Are there restrictions or considerations?
Thank you!
I seem to TMS doesn't run well with SQL 2008 R2 no problem

Names of certificate VMware View 6.1
Hello world!
I intend to install vmware view 6.1 with two connection on the LAN Server and security server on the DMZ.
I wonder what names I need on the certificate?
my login server names will be VDI1. MyDomain.Local, VDI2. MyDomain.Local
my security server will be VDI3 (not domain joined server)
my file on my public DNS is seen. Mydomain.com that guide to the Security server.
I have internal CA server that can issue the certificate for VDI1. MyDomain.Local and VDI2. MyDomain.Local.
I have a wildcard certificate for *. Mydomain.com (it does not contain one of my internal server names)
1. can I use my wildcard certificate to connect to security without needing a server error?
2. where should I install the generic cert? on the Security Server and all servers connection?
3. what happens if I want to connect to internal network VDI do I have to install my certificate of internal CA with the internal names to my connection servers?
4. because my login server will be connected both internal external, it uses internal cert (VDI1/2.MyCompany.local) for internal connection and external cert (*.) Mydomain.com) for external connection?
Thank you.
Taylor.
I do not recommend to use a certificate with wildcards on connection servers.
Instead, you can issue a certificate for each connection to the server: VDI1. MyDomain.Local and VDI2. MyDomain.Local
In this way, the connection will be reliable when connection from inside.
On the internet you connect on the server for security only, so you only need a trusted certificate installed on the Security server.
If you issue a certificate from your CA, it will work but the clients that connect from the internet will not approve this certificate.
If you want a certificate approved by anyone connecting from the internet, you must purchase a certificate of a CA like verisign etc.
In both cases, the certificate must be issued with name: see . Mydomain.com and installed on the server for security only.
Hope this helps
Kind regards
Claudio

VMware View 5 PCoIP get a black screen on wide AREA network
Hello community,
I got a VMware View 5 Infrastructure with a vCenter Server, a connectionserver of view and some clients such as VMs.
Internally, everything works - connections PCoIP and RDP do their job very well.
Know that we want to publish the vDesktops over the WAN. Users must connect to the virtual machines in their laptops or iPad (or iPhone) at home. So, we have configured our firewall to open the IP Wan (194.209.166.xy) to the internal IP (192.168.199.xy). A DNS entry for view.xy.com shows the IP WAN. If the WAN connection to infrastructure display RDP works - but PCoIP connections shows a black screen after 10 to 30 seconds after logon. We never see an interaction of oder break Windows. The screen is black after the logoninformations in the client view.
We have configured the connectionserver display settings as described in some articles here... 7
The external url HTTPS: https://view.xy.com
checkbox activ: tunnel connection secure user desktop
PCoIP external url: 194.209.166.xy:4172
checkbox activ: use pcoip gateway secure for pcoip Desktop connections
We have forgotten to do some settings or is it an another workaround to work with PCoIP over the WAN?
Kind regards
Freddie
