  Try the following.  Stop the laptop, unplug the AC adapter unplugged, remove the battery and then press and hold the power button for a minute.  Plug the power adapter (leave the battery) and start Notepad - see if the touch buttons now respond.

  As far as I know, these models are manufactured for Apple devices. There could be some compatibility issues at a Xperia device with buttons and the microphone. For example, if you click on the following link:

  It looks like maybe a whole lot of file system got corrupted (those that control windows functions) - and it's kind of logic because it would make sense that they are somehow in the same place.  I hope that SFC or chkdsk can repair corruption and fix the problem - otherwise we will have to do a re-install (but we'll wait and see what happens with the rest of the procedures before launch us the firearm).

  I'm sorry the system restore does not work - this is one of the best tools to deal with this type of problem (this is why I normally suggest it first).

  To my knowledge the Toshiba control buttons work that with windows media player if audio CD has been inserted. If you watch DVDs, you can use these buttons with the WinDVD software.
