Volume Mac name adds 1 NETWORK

This is not a crucial problem of the mission, but that makes me just scratching my head.

I have a Time Machine volume on a Mac server, which is called "Saiph."  It mounts and dismounts automatically interpreted the Time Machine backups (usually once a day because it's a Time Machine custom app TimeMachineScheduler backup).

On the computer with the backup Time Machine, the drive is called "Saiph."

However, sometimes I'll be reviewed volumes of the server via AppleTalk on a Mac client, and I see the volume listed as 'Saiph 1.'

And no, there is no other volume named Saiph on a Mac.  And Yes, I stopped and restarted both machines.  I'm really not the disparity, how this happened or how to fix.  Once again, not deadly in any way... but weird!

You will not use AppleTalk, that was abandoned years ago long before the introduction of Time Machine. You probably want to tell AFP that means Apple file sharing protocol.

There are two typical scenarios that can lead to a - local drive or the network with a number for example 1 appended to the name. As you mentioned that the first is already have a disk with the same name connected/mounted. As you say you have checked that we will assume that this is not the case. The second hypothesis relates to how the disks are connected by the underlying software, they are "attached" to a folder in the /Volumes directory, so in this case it should be "attached" to/Volumes/Saiph. When you stop or eject or unplug the player this entry in /Volumes is normally automatically removed. This process uses the feature "automount".

Sometimes things can you trick and lead a folder remains in /Volumes i.e., it was not removed successfully. So next time you connect the same Volume the automount facility see Saiph is already in use and automatically adds a number to avoid a conflict - where 'Saiph 1'.

In order to check and if necessary clean up this problem, follow the steps below.

  • Make sure you are not connected to Saiph
  • Launch Terminal.app in the Utilities folder
  • In Terminal.app, type ls-l /Volumes
  • If it has an entry for Saiph, this suggests the problem I described, this is what happened
  • If you are absolutely, completely, 100% certain Saiph really, really is not connected, then do the following
  • sudo rm - r/Volumes/Saiph

This will remove the broken entry remains.

If you do this when the real Saiph is connected you may delete everything on it.

How can I add a network printer?

The printer has a wired connection to a router.  Its local IP address is 192.168.1.105.  The name of the printer is NPI64867B.

My laptop has a wireless connection to the same router.  Of course, access to the network works fine, since I can submit this announcement.  Also, I can ping the IP address of the printer from the laptop.

I have in the control panel printers, click Add printer, select "A network printer", select "Browse for printer", then click Next.  The following text is displayed:

Note that NPI64867B does not appear in the list "shared printers.  Does?

If I manually enter NPI64867B in the box of the printer and click Next (which should work?), I get the following error:

If it's important, I have another printer in network configured on the computer.  It's for another domestic network, so it is not connected now.  The name of the printer is NPI6AAA13.  I deselected the option 'Always print to this device, even if its IP address changes', nothing helps.

The port of the existing network printer name is the name of the printer, HPLaserJet200colorMFPM276nw product.  The printer I am trying to add has the same product name.  Is this a problem?  If so, can I change the name of an arbitrary name (currently unused) pre-existing port?

    Do this way:

    1. Open Printers and faxes
    2. Click on add a printer
    3. Click "Next", select "local printer" and make sure the box "Automatically detect my printer Plug-and-Play" is NOT checked
    4. Click "Next", select "create a new port", then select "Standard TCP/IP port" in the drop-down list (Note - If the printer that you are adding is an HP printer and if the drop-down list includes "HP Standard TCP/IP Port" select that instead; more details later)
    5. Click 'Next' in the standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard Welcome screen
    6. For "printer name or IP address" type 192.168.1.105; the "Name of Port" box is filled in automatically, but you can change it to something more useful, like Office LaserJet or a printer room bedroom, etc..
    7. Before you click 'Next', confirm that the printer is turned on
    8. Click 'Finish' to complete her Add Port Wizard and return to the add a Printer Wizard
    9. Select your model and the manufacturer of the printer and the wizard

A very common problem with the printers on a network that are left at the default setting for automatically an IP address is that they have a different IP address by the DHCP server on the router if the printer is turned off for a period of time.  The Windows printing system does not detect IP address changes, and therefore the communication with the printer is lost.  'HP Standard TCP/IP Port' has the ability to detect the printer, even if its IP address changes.  You should definitely select this option or - and this is the best practice - assign a static IP address for printers all in network.

  • Add a network printer by using different credentials in Windows Vista Home Premium

    Hello

I am trying to add a shared network printer (from server) of a computer running Windows Vista Edition Home Premium. The user must authenticate by using different credentials, but I can't find a way to force Vista to connect with different credentials.
In Windows 7, it's easy, I just add an entry in the credentials manager and everything works, I can connect to the server, access to all of the actions that the user has access to and add the printer.
In Windows Vista, I can't do that. "" If I try to add a network of credentials in the "stored user names and passwords", I can only add a "a Web site or program identification information. "A credential to Windows logon" is greyed out.
When I try to access the share in Windows Explorer, I get an access denied. Instead of having Windows pop up a dialog to authenticate, he tries just to the help of the currently connected user credentails, which isn't what I want.
If I try to add the printer using the Add Printer Wizard-> add a network printer, when I enter the path to the printer, I also have an access denied instead of bring up a Windows authentication dialog box.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thank you!

  • Add a network printer

I'm trying to minimize the huge footprint of the hp software and drivers for my officejet 6500.    Once, I use the hp officejet 6500 for control panel connect to the router... can not just add the printer to each computer using windows (and MAC os) add a Printer Wizard.   I have done so with the printers and servers without any printing problem.   It seems that requires only the most basic method for each pc drivers.

In my view, there is a downloadable HP basic driver, but even what is 25 MB.  Seems a lot just for a driver.   Any suggestions for networking simple and minimal.   I just need the full suite of scan and fax to the main pc.

Thank you the instructions say to select "local printer attached to this computer.  Seems strange when it is respectable printer connected to a router.

  • SRM plugin: Add a network mapping

    Hi people,

Maybe someone can help me with this question.

OK, so there's this new plugin SRM for vCO for use with MRS. 5.8. I can start a workflow provide the necessary entry and it does what it says it does but I don't understand how I can link some of these new workflows in my workflow because miss me a lot of methods. As an example lets observe the workflow "Add a network mapping", lets say that I have my existing workflow, which creates a portgroup and now I want the newly created portgroup mapped in SRM so I want to call the workflow 'Add a network map' and it expects input from me three settings, SRM:Site, RS : LocalNetwork and SRM:RemoteNetwork, but since there is no method like getAllRemoteNetwork I do not know how to pass this value to 'add a network mapping' workflow other than me as a man rolling through the UI vCO.

Thanks for any help on this.

I'm not too familiar with vRealize Orchestrator (SRM being more my field of activity), but you may be able to use the Server.findAllForType method in a scriptable job (from for example the SRM:RemoteNetwork type and the name of the network as the two parameters) to retrieve a table of correspondence of the remote networks. I don't know more accomplished orchestrator experts can provide more details on that.

  • Changing the MAC address of the network management

    Hello

We have 2 servers ESXi 4 in our network. We do not know why, but both have the same MAC address on the network card virtual for the management network. That's a lot of problems with the connectivity of one of ESXi servers.

Is it possible to change the MAC address?

    Best regards

    Robert

Removal and addition of the vswif of the service console should generate a new MAC address.

    esxcfg-vswif - l

    Note the detail.

    esxcfg-vswif vswifN d

where N represents the number of vswif, d Deletes

    esxcfg-vswif - a n-i < IP > < vswifN > < portgroup > Pei, netmask

is the command to add a new vswif, even when N is the number of vswif.

  • HP office jet pro 251dw: find the name of the network printer

    Hello

I want to create a shortcut of the queue for the ability to quickly cancel a print job

To do this, I need the name of printer network such as:

    C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe printui.dll/o/n HP6CC21747B66E

The above is incorrect. How to find the correct network name

    Thank you

    Frank C

I found the Brink tutorial on creating a shortcut of printer queue:
Shortcut of the print queue - create in Windows 7 and Windows 8

In my case, the name of the printer is "Printer HP Officejet Pro 251dw PCL 6 (network)"
It must be in quotes because of the spaces.

I did create it a shortcut in the location target using the following:
%WinDir%\System32\rundll32.exe printui.dll/o/n "Printer HP Officejet Pro 251dw PCL 6 (network)"

I ran a test with no paper in the printer, so it couldn't print.
I have performed the shortcut, the print job in the queue. I canceled it
    And it worked!

  • When you add the network printer

When you add the printer network TCP/IP port option is not in the drop-down list

The TCP/IP port selection will not be on "Add a network printer" it will be on "add a local printer.  You want to feed the printer directly.  In the printers and Faxes folder, click on 'Add printer' > next.  Select "local printer attached to this computer.  Do not check "automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer."  Click Next.  Select "Create a new port" and choose "Standatd TCP/IP Port" in the menu drop-down.  Click Next, click Next again (in the "Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port" Wizard), enter the printer's TCP/IP address, click Next, and then finish.  You return to the add a Printer Wizard.  Select the driver, and then complete the wizard. • Sharing of readers do not reconnect - error "an error occurred during connection [drive letter]: [share name] Microsoft Windows network: the local device name is already in use." This connection has not been restored. »

Original title: Shared readers do not reconnect

I have two PCs connected wireless. A laptop (Vista Business) was the drives mapped to actions on the other PC (XP). Whenever the Vista PC is started or out of hibernation, or after only a short period of time these discs are not available. Click on the drive in Explorer to display the message "an error occurred during connection [drive letter]: [share name] Microsoft Windows network: the local device name is already in use." This connection has not been restored. »

If I click on 'Network' within Solution Explorer, the XP PC is not visible. The only way that I can "reconnect" these disks is to go into my anti-virus (Trend) and open the network map. This shows the XP PC and then the shares are available through Explorer - XP PC is still not visible by clicking network however.

It started only happens in the last two months - cannot locate exactly when, but quite recently. I use connections to store small files and backup critical files a few before nailing the laptop away and it is quite annoying to have to go through this routine every time.

    Any ideas?

Just in case it helps others - I found that if I make sure that my XP PC has a fixed IP address, and then set up the shares so that they are defined using the IP address and not share names, then I do have more problems - seems like it's something to do with Windows solve the share names rather than something to do with the personal firewall after all.

  • Remove or replace the name of the network (Vista, wired to the router)

I have 4 computers on my network home (a new laptop and Windows 7 desktop computer and an older laptop and desktop Vista, which are replaced - laptops are wireless).  I had a LOT of problem with printer sharing, especially after a reboot printer goes offline, and I can't find any way to get them back another remove printers and reinstalling (disappointment, disappointment, disappointment) online.  And then I started having problems with one of the Vista (cables to the router) computers access the computer Windows 7 new, also wired to the router.

Then I will begin first with the last problem.  Trying to get the old wired Office Access/recognize the new desktop windows 7 Wired, I ended up resetting my fairly new Linksys router e2500 to its factory setting - and in the process gained a new network name.  I finally understood how to get the laptops wireless to recognize the new network (should be easy, but it wasn't), but the old wired Vista insists on the use of the former name of network, one that appears in the network and sharing Center implementation.  The other funny thing is that even though she seems to be using the former name of network, I put on Jack autour with her so I don't have Internet access on my old Vista computer.

I guess that because it is trendy, it seems not to worry about the network name, but it's bothering me because it's not fair.  However, I can't find any way to delete the old name of network.  I spent the day on that and am still confused.  Baffled because it is working and baffled because I can change the name.  I also get a lot of mistakes "Windows cannot access \\myWindows7computername" when I double click on the name displayed in the network folder of Windows Explorer (probably more serious problem).  In any case, I want to address what should be first the problem of easire.

I discovered enabled network, public folder sharing, which transforms file on the computer discovery and Vista network, sharing the printer and sharing active files (but only on the printer and all the other things of file not checked), and sharing files public computer to Windows 7 (the one with the printers connected to it) - and passwords disabled on both (all computers).

So my first question is how to make the network name on the Vista desktop wired old deleted/changed/replaced for the new name of the current network.  Why it does not insist in using the former name of network that no longer exists.

    Ron in round rock

Sorry about that, but I got my answer from another forum, a Linksys Forum - and I will talk about a few things in case other people have this problem/question.

To remove the network name that appears on the Network Center and sharing, click on the link to customize to the right of the network type - and on the next screen, click on merge or delete network locations, you will / should be able to remove (don't know what fusion done or means) the network with the wrong name, EXCEPT that you can't remove it If it is being used (which is / was the problem I had).  When I unplugged the cable between the computer and the router, I was able to remove the network location (the one with the old name of network), I tried to get rid of.

Now for the confession.  All this has nothing to do with the name of the network - and most of the things in my original post is just smoke also.  I was going down the wrong path.  It turns out that with computers connected to a router, there is only one network involved and you can call it anything you like and it will work.  There is no selection of a network involved as in the case of a wireless network.

Network with wired computers name is determined lby network name "you enter" on the screen to customize network settings, the screen you get when you click Customize on the screen of the Network Center and sharing - and you can type in anything you want here.  I'd so go through all this.  I simply had to re - enter the network name on the screen to customize network settings, that is simply a name that you can use for your own reference.

  • Change the name of the network printer wireless

We have several Officejet Pro 8600 in our building.  We are printing wireless on their part and need to change the name of the printers so that we know who is who.  How can I change the name of the network to a printer?

You can RIGHT CLICK on the printer in PRINTERS AND DEVICES. There will be a tab RENAME you can choose to change the name.

You will have to do it on EVERY COMPUTER in the building. The printer itself has a HOST name and is the name of the NETWORK.

It's about the only way that you can change the name of the printers.

    I hope this helps.
