Vostro 230 RAM - 4 GB max memory upgrade? True? Why?

I am ungrading model of my father-in-law and I go 2x4gb or even 2x8gb, but Dell site says it's 4 GB (2x2gb) max for this machine. Where is the problem? The motherboard does not allow for the 8 GB or 16 GB of RAM? It is the operating system? The BIOS? Any help would be great, because the Dell Chat guy was a numbskull.

Hi Jeff here

Thanks for the update on ddr3 8 GB = taken in charge in the motherboard in windows 64-bit.

I was looking for this exact information when you posted today.

If anyone is wondering; a lot of the vostro support higher than the maximum ram official series

We have vostro 200 at work that can support 8 gb (officially only 4 GB supported).

with confirmation of jeff

the vostro 230 s can take 8 gb as well supported (but memory ddr3)... The vostro 200 and 220 used ddr2 memory.

For the towers slim; I can assure you that...

Vostro 200 have 4 memory slots and ddr2 (tested up to 8 GB)

Vostro 220's only 2 memory slots and ddr2 (untested maximum)

Vostro 230's only 2 memory slots and ddr3 (tested up to 8 GB)

How can I find the AMT of max memory I can put in my Pavilion a810y?  It of sites that say 4 GB and other telling that to 2 GB.  Is the real answer please stand up.

    Hello:

Your PC would have the Intel 915 chipset.

If the motherboard has no memory, each with 1 GB of memory, 2 slots then you're at the max.

Locations of Intel 915 chipset memory cannot manage more than 1 GB of memory.

The crucial memory upgrade link I posted said your PC had 4 locations of memory, so that the info is wrong.

If you upgrade to W7, I recommend you only go with the 32-bit version on your PC.

A 64-bit system requires more disk space and memory to run as a 32-bit system doesn't work - not double, but, with only 2 GB of memory, a 32 bit OS will perform a little better that will be a 64 bit OS, but who is to you.

  • Max Memory upgrade for Satellite L750-1RJ

I heard that the updated bios to 3.60 will support more memory? So I've updated, but when I tested it on the main website, it shows only 8 GB ram max.

My processor is an i3 2330 m and on the Web site intel 16 GB ram is the maximum.
Buy a kit of memory 2x8gb? This will be compatible with my laptop?

    Thanks in advance,
    Steve

As I know the update of the BIOS will not increase possibility of RAM and it depends on the chipset. According to specification for laptop, that your laptop can be upgraded up to 8 GB and no more than as long as the use of modules of memory 2x8GB will not work.

If you have a 4 GB module inside just buy another with PA3918U-1M4G part number and you get max 8 GB of RAM in your machine.

  • Dv6t 2000 CTO Entertainment Notebook with i7 processor 72QM to Max memory upgrade?

I have a dv6t with i7 720 m build processory about 3 years ago. I think there clarksfield CPU. I have a 2 x 2 gig installed for total of 4gig from the original version.   I wonder (assuming that Win 7 64 bit family premium that takes in charge until 16gig), this laptop only supports 8gig?  I ran a tool and it has a reference to logic/Chipset memory banks maximum installable memory of 32gig and a reference to the controller memory memory install Max 8gig.  So, what gives? The laptop will support the sticks of memory 2x8gig or just the sticks of memory 2x4gig?  The laptop DV6T 2000 CTO Entertainment.  If it supports 16 gig, I would just buy one of the sticks 8gig rather than 2x4gig. And maybe try to use 2 concerts with the 8gig send me a 10gig for now... or just wait to see if I need a 2nd 8gig.  And an upgrade of the bios will support the 16 gig?

I thought I would update my own question with the truth and the response of work that hopefully someone other than stubmles help in this.  But in a nutshell the CTO of 2000 models DV6t you could order 2009 about DO DO support 16gig and NOT only 8 GB. I have 2 slots. I have the quad 720QM first edition, yes first edition. The Intel site and the sites of Auditor memory are FALSE!  The saying has been 1st gen Quad cpu supports no more than 2x4gig = 8gigs.  In fact, one of my tools suggests that I can put in up to 32gig assuming I can find sticks of memory 2 x 16gig I don't even think is still for sale not to mention affordability. Spread the word because I hope this helps others. I bought memory to geek and thought that I would be lucky since I read several comments and observations at various locations, which suggests that they were trying to 16gig and indeed he has worked for the 720QM processor.  I did have to update my BIOS HP offers that I have to install to 2010ish, as opposed to the 4 or so that are available today for my model, but I think that have been updated to support my model didn't require much more. I carried out memory tests too in 5 iterations without problem, and in fact it starts immediately without any problem with WIN 7 home premium, recognizing the sticks. I also checked the CPU64z tool for the memory tab.

  • Max memory upgrade question

What is memory addressable max for XP Home Edition?

4 GB is the maximum taken in charge, 'accessible to your programs' lies between 2.5 and 3.75 GB - with all that above 3.25 GB being questionable.

Though - most of the people who have Windows XP Home will probably never use even a 1 GB full - even with a shared memory video card.

  • Upgrade processor or motherboard on Dell Vostro 230 Mini-Tower

I have a Dell Vostro 230 Mini-Tower, and the vehicle currently has Intel Pentium E6500 processor. I would like to move on to something better, because my current processor does not meet the minimum requirements of some games I want to play. I was wondering what processor I could update? I know that the new processor has to adapt to the taking of the motherboard, but I don't know how to find out what socket has my current motherboard, or even what motherboard it is.

I would also like to know, if I upgrade the processor, but instead get a new motherboard, can't I get a motherboard and plug and it will come with a new processor, or he will have to adapt my current processor? Upgrading the motherboard makes much difference to the speed of CPU if I don't actually pass the processor?

I am running Windows SP3 & DirectX 11, with 4 GB of RAM, and I also have an ATI Radeon 5670 HD graphics card and a power of 300W.

I have to get a new power supply if I upgraded the motherboard or processor?

  • HP 21-2014: HP 21-2014 in a computer, Ram memory upgrade question

Hello, I have a HP 21 2014 all in one computer. He now has 4 GB Ram memory and an AMD processor. I was wondering how it would be possible to increase the Ram up to 8 GB. Is there a certain number of model or brand of Ram do I need to buy? I looked a few things on Frys Electronics, but obviously I'm naïve. I really want to upgrade memory because I have some games which really lag on this computer, even if it is new, and I know it takes more may work properly. I wanted to see if someone can point me in the right direction. Price is not really a problem, I just want to know what would be a better job for this specfic HP model. Thank you!

Yes, you can upgrade to 16 GB:

    Thanks for the tips!

Most would not get the HD 5830 older.  You will be smarter get the best HD 6850 for the same price.  It offers better performance and consumes less energy.  Just a single 6-pin PCIe against the two necessary connection to the HD 5830.

I would upgrade also at least a 500 Watt power supply.  Always get a good brand unit.  Don't go cheap on food.   Here are two that are reasonable in price.

Here is the 6850 s HD.

Recently saved this PC of my friend tries to throw it. Everything is fine with the PC. It works perfectly and there is no material visible failure wihtin the PC either. He just bought a new and had no need for this one.

Before turn me this into a House mutli-purpose server, I decided to upgrade the RAM.

So I did some research and found this page: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01883661

DDR3 240-pin DIMM 1333 MHz non - ECC, Max 4 GB per DIMM slot, Total Max 16 GB module.

I went and bought RAM Corsair. Link to the product: http://www.corsair.com/en-us/cmv4gx3m1a1333c9

I decided to get 2x4gb and upgrade later if I felt the need.

I was happy to install in the PC. one in DIMM 1 slot and the other in the DIMM 2 slot.

    BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!

I thought that maybe the slots are wrong, maybe they have to odd numbers then numbers.

So I changed the RAM of DIMM 2 DIMM 3.

    Once again, the annoying ringtone.

I even tried leaving just the 4 GB DIMM 1 and tried to start the PC, but nothing helped.

I tried a lot of different combinations with the end result is 5 annoying beeps.

After that I thought that maybe, just maybe, an update of the BIOS can change things.

So I installed Windows 7 (I can't stand Windows. Arch Linux FTW) and performing a BIOS update.

I then installed the new RAM again. Yes... frickin 5 beeps AGAIN.

I am extremely disappointed at this point. I spent already $ 70 on a computer with free access.

I read the forums here, but I couldn't find a thread with a solution for me.

Is there anyone on this forum who could lend me a helping hand?

Any information would be gladly appreciated.

  • Pavilion model: 17-f114dx: memory upgrade

My new laptop with 6 GB of RAM, I would like to upgrade, but some say documentation 6 GB is the maximum.
Tell me crucial it will load 16 GB. Why can I only the memory?

    Hello

First you see not laptop with 6 GB of RAM max, can be a few percent elsewhere but not non-normal life. In any case, your machine supports 16 GB of RAM as mentioned in the following book:

    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c04427554.PDF

You cannot replace yourself, this will void the warranty (you can do what you want when it's out of warranty). You must 'authorized service parts provider' add RAM to you as indicated page #69 the manual above. If it is out of warranty, you can buy some Crucial RAM and replace yourself using the information on page #104.

    Kind regards.

  • Satellite 1800-814 memory upgrade

I have a Satellite 1800 814 with 256 MB of RAM and have been looking for an upgrade of memory for a while. I used a critical technology for an upgrade of my old Packard Bell 6500 multimedia PC, but they could not help with my Satellite laptop.

I have now found an upgrade to 512 MB at Offtek, who seems to have a good range of Toshiba of refoulement (2 x 256 MB modules). See the site:-

    http://www.offtek.co.UK/

Their site States that the max memory for the 1800-814 is 512 MB.
Anyone has any experience of Offtek updates before I shell out £131,16 Please? If I can count on the accuracy of their information and the reliability of their product?

    Kind regards

    Hello

Looks like Offtek memory is right. And yes it's true 512 MB is the maximum that can use a Satellite 1800. But if your laptop is already 256 MB, you only need a 256 MB module.
