Vostro 230 upgrading to Radeon 5830 - what power?

Hey all,.

I am interested in adding this Radeon HD 5830 for my Dell Vostro 230.

http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16814125317

No idea if this should work?

Can someone help me pick a PSU?  I think it should be to 400W 350W... but which version? 2.2V?

Any suggestions for these options?

http://www.Newegg.com/product/ProductList.aspx?submit=Ene&N=100007657%20600014018&IsNodeId=1&name=351W%20-%20400W

Thanks for the tips!

Most would not get the HD 5830 older.  You will be smarter get the best HD 6850 for the same price.  It offers better performance and consumes less energy.  Just a single 6-pin PCIe against the two necessary connection to the HD 5830.

I would upgrade also at least a 500 Watt power supply.  Always get a good brand unit.  Don't go cheap on food.   Here are two that are reasonable in price.

Here is the 6850 s HD.

  • Upgrade processor or motherboard on Dell Vostro 230 Mini-Tower

I have a Dell Vostro 230 Mini-Tower, and the vehicle currently has Intel Pentium E6500 processor. I would like to move on to something better, because my current processor does not meet the minimum requirements of some games I want to play. I was wondering what processor I could update? I know that the new processor has to adapt to the taking of the motherboard, but I don't know how to find out what socket has my current motherboard, or even what motherboard it is.

I would also like to know, if I upgrade the processor, but instead get a new motherboard, can't I get a motherboard and plug and it will come with a new processor, or he will have to adapt my current processor? Upgrading the motherboard makes much difference to the speed of CPU if I don't actually pass the processor?

I am running Windows SP3 & DirectX 11, with 4 GB of RAM, and I also have an ATI Radeon 5670 HD graphics card and a power of 300W.

  • Vostro 230 RAM - 4 GB max memory upgrade? True? Why?

I am ungrading model of my father-in-law and I go 2x4gb or even 2x8gb, but Dell site says it's 4 GB (2x2gb) max for this machine. Where is the problem? The motherboard does not allow for the 8 GB or 16 GB of RAM? It is the operating system? The BIOS? Any help would be great, because the Dell Chat guy was a numbskull.

    Hi Jeff here

Thanks for the update on ddr3 8 GB = taken in charge in the motherboard in windows 64-bit.

I was looking for this exact information when you posted today.

If anyone is wondering; a lot of the vostro support higher than the maximum ram official series

We have vostro 200 at work that can support 8 gb (officially only 4 GB supported).

    with confirmation of jeff

the vostro 230 s can take 8 gb as well supported (but memory ddr3)... The vostro 200 and 220 used ddr2 memory.

For the towers slim; I can assure you that...

Vostro 200 have 4 memory slots and ddr2 (tested up to 8 GB)

Vostro 220's only 2 memory slots and ddr2 (untested maximum)

Vostro 230's only 2 memory slots and ddr3 (tested up to 8 GB)

  • Vostro 230 and E2210 via the DVI display won't wakeup

    Hello-

Have a lot of new identical Vostro 230 systems with E2210 hung using DVI. They all show a weird problem - when the screen goes into sleep mode for energy savings (the sleep of the screen, not the PC, is disabled), intermittently, they wake up to the top. Systems are on but no video. Only way to recover the video is the hard reset. Several machines, same problem. As a test, used VGA and no problem of Awakening (so far).

Obviously, something is wrong, I suspect with the car when using DVI video. Someone at - it information? Needless to say that we will not get over these until we have a resolution...

    Thank you...

    Braytonak,

You can cancel your installation with your new materials because a technical analyst on Dell support have studied the issue we are having on the Vostro 230 trying to run two monitors with integrated vga Plug and add it into the DVI Jack.

This is an unsupported configuration.  DVI expansion card is a pass-through and not a current graphics card.

The matter has already been brought to INTEL because the problem is with the INTEL driver. Intel has said that they will not be correcting mistakes in any future driver versions.

Currently, there are a number of available workarounds:

    Use VGA only

also upgraded to the 8.15.10.1749 or 8.15.10.1872, some Googling Intel driver ==> it works fine for me on Windows 7 x 64

For Windows XP it also seems to work very well ==> 6.14.10.5090

You can also install a graphics card in addition also will solve. (e.g. Diamond ATI Radeon HD3450 PCI - E 512mg low profile)

  • Want to Phoenix 810-330qe: upgrade, update necessary graphics card power supply?

I'm a Phoenix 810 - 330qe, currently equipped with the stock Nividia GTX 745. I bought a graphics card GTX 970 upgrade for better gameplay and use of possible VR helmet. I have not yet installed, but wonder if my power supply must be upgraded to handle it all. If so, will what power take?

The new card is spec'd to draw 145W and recommend a power of 500W. The 745 GTX is spec'd respectively 55W and 300W. The current stock PSU is rated at 500W, but do not know if that pushes its limit. The only other setting I had installed an SSD alongside that of stock.

    Help suggestions, thank you.

I would upgrade the PSU, considering that you've also added an SSD.

Probably all the parts of your computer, except for (perhaps) the hard drive and CD/DVD drive.

You will need a new motherboard and since then, it is likely that either everything is integrated with your current motherboard (audio, video, network, etc) or did not fit into the new motherboard (different requirements) - you need to replace it.  So your new processor would mean a new motherboard, new video card, the new card network, the new audio card, new memory and it probably all must be powered by a new power supply that probably wouldn't fit in your current computer case.

The hard disk and CD/DVD CAN work in the new system - if the motherboard will accept what hard training as well as the connections for the CD/DVD drive.  You will probably need to format completely or at least perform a repair installation (since it's Windows XP.)

The last thing it depends of course - if Windows XP came pre-installed on the current computer. If so - you will need to purchase a new license for Windows XP (which is difficult, at best) to do your own installation.

Suggestion: Find a (renovated) Off-lease computer for sale from a reputable dealer with Windows 7 Professional or Windows 7 ultimate online and buy it.  That will cost you less, give you a better machine, and you can use the free Windows XP mode to run older programs which will be not (rare) works on Windows 7 directly or using other tricks of compatibility.

My Pavilion dv6 upgraded to windows 10 what happened to my external screen does not

    Hi @Jake08,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A place where you can find solutions for your problems with the help of the community!

I stumbled upon your post on the laptop and wanted to help you! I looked in your question about your HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook and questions with external screen works not properly. You can try this without the connected external monitor.

In Device Manager, click the arrow next to display adapters to expand this category
Right-click on the graph, and then select Update driver software if more than 1 graphic adapter do 1 at a time.
Select search automatically for updated driver software.

The laptop must find and automatically install the updated driver
Once the installation is complete, restart your laptop.

You can try to use the Windows Update Troubleshooter to fix updates that do not come through Windows 10.  Please restart the laptop twice to make sure that all updates are completed!

Please let me know how it goes.

    Thank you.

  • Question of Vostro 230 s

Hello everyone, I have an Inspiron 531 s which is about 5 years old.and it's XP. I simply don't have the money to switch to Win 7 so I'm looking for a good used Dell with 7 is already installed, and I'll just transfer my stuff on to the new computer. I ran acrross a beautiful years of Vostro 230 with 7 installed for less than $100. I know that this computer is designed for small businesses, but I wonder if it would work for home use. All we really do is surf the net and pay bills online. Any ideas on that? Thank you.

The Vostro will go well for your use.

Before buying, you must know a few things.

If any master password, the name of the current owners, address and which type information to save with Dell.

After effects application cuda. But nvidia cuda. But I have the ATI Radeon so what do I do? Please help me.

After Effects do not ask for CUDA. It is simply to say that if you want to speed up the rendering of traced to the (now obsolete) RADIUS, you will need a GPU and CUDA approved. You should definitely avoid to install drivers NVIDIA CUDA on computers with AMD graphics processors!

The ray-traced rendering engine is, as I said, considered obsolete now: http://motionworks.net/after-effects-3d-future/

And AE uses GPU for just about everything: features GPU (CUDA, OpenGL) in After Effects

Have you selected the correct version of Windows on the Vostro 230 page before you download the driver?

  • Tecra A9 - after CPU fan upgrade works constantly at full power

    Hi all

I have 3 Tecra A9 notebook that came with a Core2Duo T7100 clocked at 1.8 Ghz with 2 MB of Cache. Updated every 3 to a T7700 clocked at 2.4 Ghz with 4 MB of Cache. According to Intel, these two processors TDP is 35W. Books don't get really hot and not hot. The CPU FAN starts right full power after the display of the BIOS with the Toshiba Logo screen. Under Bios Version 2.1 on all 3 systems, having the same behavior on all 3 systems. CPU properly recognized under Windows XP, Win7, and Win10. Is it possible to get the adjusted to normal CPU fan? The system isn t is hotter than upgrading the CPU, just for some reason any BIOS has now decided the fan must operate at full power. I even traded one of the CPU Fans with that of a Tecra A10 notebook but had the same effect as with the original fan. Having no idea what I could do. I hope for your help!

    Best regards

I think that needs calibration to be performed to configure the table of fan speed.
Toshiba Service Center to do this.

Question: I will lose all functions of e/s (VGA, USB ports, ethernet port, input audio & outputs) on the graphics card integrated if I update to an EVGA GT619?

Regarding the power supply: what are the specifications for a better diet which is virtually "plug-and - go" compatible with the Office of CQ5624P? " (between 400W to 500W).

I'm not a great player, I'm looking for a way to use a 50 "flat screen and my pc monitor at base of household use, movies and low end games... Help appreciated... Thank you.

    Hello again FLknights,

I can't make a recommendation, but I can give you some information. First of all, the graphics card you are looking at is a PCI Express 2.0 x 16, and who can worry because you do not have a PCI Express 2.0 x 16 slot on your Board. If you are concerned don't be there is no difference that he connects on your Board, so it should work fine.

Looking at the two UCP will work and both leave you with room for growth if you decide to go this route. You certainly need to change the power supply though as the 250 watt installed is not sufficient for the needs of new cards 300watts.

In addition, the graphics card supports the operating system of Windows XP to Windows 8. For me, it would mean that you should also make sure that when you go to turn off the chart embedded in the BIOS you also enable Legacy Support or material according to what you see.

I hope this helps. Thanks again for your post on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • ThinkPad X 230 Upgrade RAM help

    Hey Hi,

I plan to upgrade my Thinkpad X230s memory up to 8 GB. I have a few questions, it would be a great help if anyone can help me.

    (1) is it better to use the configuration 2x4gb or 1x8GB? What are the benefits? (Configuration of Thinkpad X 230 support dual channel does?)

    (2) CPU - Z shows my current RAM is running at 1.5 V. I put two 4 GB RAM running at 1.35v? (Thinkpad X 230 supports type DDR3L memory?)

    (3) what happens if I use two RAM with different CASES of latency?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello, neerajmishra

    1. with two modules are installed, 2 x 4 GB, for example, CPU works in mode dual channel. This means better performance

    2. officially, according to the x 230 specifications, laptop supports 1.5 volt type memory. Supported CPU in the x 230, 1.35 and 1.5 v. module types X 230 actually works with two types of memory. In addition, it is able to work with 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) installed. Main desired - do not mix different types memory, use the modules of 1.5 or 1.35 for the moment.

3 requirement is the same as above - do not mix different memory types

  • Pavilion Elite HPE 450 t: replacement ati radeon 5570 what info I have to shop with

Hi, my ATI Radeon HD 5570 has pretty much gone for good.  I want to to replace it with something equal or superior performance... but I don't know what I'm looking for when it comes to choosing the size, power and others.   I'm running the 64-bit Intel i7 system and get really confused looking at the descriptions of the video cards on different sites.  Can someone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Eddie,.

The AMD Radeon 5570 has been very good graphics card in his time.  Your old PC need a graphic card HP legacy which could mean the purchase of a used graphics card.

The 6850 AMD or NVIDIA TI 550 would be a good choice for a replacement.

Do a little measuring inside so that you know how much room is available for a replacement of the graphics card.  Find out what the return policy is before you buy.
