VSA and 10 GigE NICs

In reviewing the VSA documentation, there is mention of the four 1GigE NIC - and our servers have only a 10 GigE dual port network adapter.  It will be a problem with VSA?  If so, is there a fix expected anytime soon?  Thank you.

Hello

1GigE four network adapters must provide redundancy network (Nic) and as much as I know this requirement will not change in the near future, support however 10 GigE network card is planned for a future release.

With VSA 1.0, you can try to configure the network required for VSA manually with an uplink each vSwitch0 and vSwitch1 (see http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-17393)

change %ProgramFiles%\VMware\Infrastructure\tomcat\webapps\VSAManager\WEB-INF\classes\dev.properties

Network.config = false

Restart the "VMware VirtualCenter Management Webservices'

Start the installation of cluster VSA.

I have not tried myself so not quite sure if this really works and does not recommend this for production environment.

  • VSA and what happens if Vcenter falls down?

Hi, im specing a vmware project and we will use VSA and wanted to get the opinion of peoples

Option 2 is to go with a two host or a three node host.

In the node option 2 host, I would need a third vCenter server and act as the tiebreaker in a failure scenario

With the option of node 3 host I was running on one of the three hosts vcenter

IM leaning more towards option two node because of the storage.

Ive price on some Dell servers, and I am planning purchase servers that can have up to 8 disks in them, and im going to use all 8 disks with Raid 5.  If in the end im planning to have Abu 3.6 TB of space used on each server.  I intend maxing out the storage, so I won't be able to extend the storage later.

Since VSA reflects things, guests 2 or 3 guests have not give me more space.  So in the end, no matter what option I'm going with evil have almost 3.6 TB of usable space after VSA things mirrors

I plan buy 2 processors in each server with 64 GB of memory for each server.  I think I ran out of storage before having more cpu and memory, so im thinking the option three node would be wasefull

If lead hosts 2 will probably be about $10,000 each, in order to get a third one which would not really be used seems exaggerated

So I can just spend $3,000 and get a vCenter Server

But what happens if the Vcenter server has a hardware failure.

I know in Vshpere the computers physical hosts have all failover so HA will work again and so on so im not worried about that

But if Vcenter is down, which will have harmful effects on the VSA of things part?

    Thank you

    Mike

Nothing happens to the ASB if vCenter down - she keeps using data.  You will not be able to manage the ASB, but you will lose access to the data.

  • Redundancy - blade through an ANC and 10 GB Nic

    Hello

We are about to introduce new blades with a single ANC (two ports) and 10 GB NIC Dell in our environment.

The ANC will be used for the intellectual property and FCoE. Now, there is an internal discussion on the redundancy that this is just a NON per blade. I see this as a single point of failure. I think we should at least use the 10 GB NIC to separate a part of traffic (for example, management or vmotion).

I'm curious, how do you see it or how did you design this for your environment?

    Thank you

We run two dual ANC port, for a total of four connections converged 10 g. Each ANC has a connection to each switch fabric upstream.

Each link is used for FCoE and also makes all the VLANS (MGMT, vMotion, NFS, invited). We run multicard vmotion and that each link is used for VMotion traffic.

We tag traffic with COS values on the n1kv and let the fabric UCS penetration queuing to ensure each traffic class a part of the link, but not to limit it to only the part if the other types of traffic are not all of their allocation consumes.

With only a single ANC won't FCoE storage redundancy, even if you can use your other 10G to create network redundancy.

  • Configuration guide for ESXi 5 (Vmnetwork, management and vMotion) with NIC 2 network

    Hello

I have 4 NIC in Server Blade 7 (ESXI 5), would like to dedecate 2 NIC for (Vmnetwork, management and vMotion) & NIC (iSCSI traffic) 2 with equallogic SAN.

I equallogic guide to configure ESXI with it, but how do I configure (Vmnetwork, management and vMotion) with NIC 2, my priority is excellent speed for my virtual machine, and then nothing else.

Then just go for classic switch.

The configuration is a lot depend on existing infra, the trunk, the physical switch for redundant network & balance, 100 or network 1GbE, no.. virtual machines and etc. If there is a new configuration, I suggest you trunk 2 x available vmnic (the vm network) to balance the load and better performance.

  • Do IMAQdx and NI GigE Vision 2.0 material support?

    Hello

From my brief research, GigE Vision 2.0 has features very nice that I'm at the end which are not supported by previous GigE Vision 1.x standards:

    • Compression on the side of the camera

    • Timestamp and sync IEEE 1588 (PTP)

OR those taking? If not, are there any plans to add support in the near future?

    Thank you!

    Hi again,

    Thanks for the extra frame.

Assuming that your only using the camera is saving JPEG images on the disk, and you are concerned about the performance of the acquisition system, I think that an IP camera might be a better choice. These cameras acquire images compressed, so you can very well save the direct-to-disk with no extra charge. This will save time and bandwidth of the network processor. The bandwidth would be nice because you could probably just run 6 cameras in a gigabit switch and connect to a port on the PXI chassis instead of several 8234 ports. This is possible because not only if bandwidth is reduced, but the IP cameras can use TCP and sharing bandwidth much more enjoyable that can cameras GigE vision. To save the raw images on the disk, you can use the IMAQdx VI "Get Image Data", which is a JPEG file that you can save directly to an IP camera.

Regarding the time stamp data, depends on the accuracy required. Since you recorded all the time after that image returned, is quite imprecise because it is not really correlate with the acquisition time. You might get a more exact time in two ways: record IMAQdx a CPU timestamp on receipt of driver that you can use (useful if the CPU is synchronized to GPS/NTP or similar) or you can use a timestamp saved in the image itself in the form of metadata (GigE Vision and IP cameras can do that). I think the Basler IP cameras can use NTP and testify to the time stamp for metadata EXIF JPEG images that you can extract. This mechanism is of course much more precise because it eliminates the delay/jitter of transmission at the time. If you have a few requirements of precision (microsec, milliseconds, seconds?), it would probably give a better idea of what your options are.

I suggest you take a look at the range of cameras from Basler IP. You can not control the parameters of the image directly in the IMAQdx driver (you must use their web interface, or write additional HTTP code), but once you have the configured device it will keep these settings.

    http://www.baslerweb.com/en/products/network-cameras/IP-fixed-box-cameras

It is likely that the cameras will be more expensive that some cheaper GigE Vision cameras can be, but I suspect that you could save enough on other system costs will in this way to make up for it. In my opinion, doing compression JPEG on-the-fly with 350 + MB/sec of camera raw data could be difficult, unless you had a tough multi-core system.

  • Windows 7 and 8 gig Clip

I've upgraded to Windows 7 a few weeks ago. Well, today when I plug my 8gig clip itinstalled a new driver and then is no longer works with Rhapsody to go. I check for a reason, and he said: I am running Windows 6.1, and it does not support Sansa Clip. My 4 GB works fine. Any thoughts? I have been using Sansa and Rhapsody together since January with no problems. Now Rhapsody do not recognize. I tried to remove the clip and then it reauthorize but he won't so now it's just a clip of unauthorized concert, not supported poor baby 8! Any thoughts?

I searched for firmware updates and found nothing.

I fixed it! I just looked on the 4 GB and 8 GB to see if something was different, and I saw the concert, 4 was in mode "auto detect" then the 8 gig was in MSC. I switched the 8 GB to "automatic detection" and everything works again! bI must have accidentally powered or something. Praise the Lord, I did not buy another Sansa... yet!

The only changes we made were to have portfast, bpduguard and bpdufilter enabled on all ports to connect to the NetXtremes.

Does anyone know of an imbalance between NetXtreme BCM 5720 and the latest cisco IOS s2t54-adventerprisek9-mz. Spa. 152 - 1.SY1a.bin that could cause this?

Or the cards do not work with this configuration and something as the portfast must be disabled or something else activated?

So far no news of my Cisco TAC I have open.

    Hi Eric,.

The 'reliability' don't lie not.  If the cables are not defective, then it would read as "255/255.  To support my theory, counters have been erased "6d20h" and entry errors are incrementing.

What line card is installed on this slot machine?  We could try to perform a TDR on this port:

    1 command: test the interface cable tdr ;

    2. wait for 61 seconds;

3 command: sh interface cable tdr ; and

    4. after exit # 3.

  • 9 - ESXi 5.1 workstation reviews and 10 GbE NIC

OK, I have a beefy machine running Windows Server 2012 VMW Workstation 9. The machine has a dual 1 GB NIC and dual port 10GBe NIC

All the features of the CPU are enabled in the i7 CPU 3820, so everything is running 64-bit stuff.

I have 2 machines virtual esxi connected to the card of 1 GB automatically filled. The virtual NETWORK card is "el1000" are in a Cluster, 2 nodes of course vCenter.

Each esxi is connected to a target iSCSI with a 200 GB LUN.

In each of the 2 VM esxi, I have 1 Windows 2008 R2 VM, one in each VM esxi. The two Windows 2008 R2 VM are on the iSCSI LUN.

The Windows 2008 R2 VM 2 is connected to the each host esxi, the 1 GB vswitch vswitch.

Launch t Windows 2008 R2 VM fine. Performance is as expected because they are only connected iSCSI LUNS to the 1 GB card.

While the configuration works as expected.

Since it worked, I decided, we will use 10GBe NIC so I disassembled all the iSCSI LUN and removed the adpter iSCSI iSCSI target in both machines virtual esxi. I'm to a 'Raw' build if you want.

Because I don't have a DAC SFP connection + 10GBe switch, I put a looping SFP + and everything was now pings to 10GBe port.

Since my objective was the LUN to a 1 GB NIC/subnet, I redirected the LUN target to the subnet in the subnet/10GBe NIC.

Everything was to pings to the 10GBe. Great huh?

Next, I added a new vmnic6 in workstation 9 in "Virtual Network Editor" and "Bridged" vmnic6 to the 10GBe NIC, then I added a NETWORK card as a 'vmxnet3"to each VM esxi, then configured a vswitch in each VM esxi. No problem. I see a "FULL 10000" synch/connection. Cool.

Then I configured the iSCSI initiators in each VM esxi to connect to the 200 GB iSCSI LUN. The update occurs and the two machines virtual esxi see the LUN and it goes up.

At this point, all connections are there and the iSCSI is connected to 10 Gbps.

So I import the virtual machine residing in the iSCSI LUN, one in each VM esxi. They import very well.

So I turn on one of the Windows 2008 R2 VM that is hosted on the first esxi host and... GROUP!

    I have attached the screenshot.

    PSOD.jpg

Can we do anything out it?... lol

I can repeat it each time.

I'm laughing because I'm probably using WS incorrectly or something.

However, I have flash the 10GBE optical is QLogic/HP lates BIOS.

    Thank you

Do not use the for the VM ESXi vmxnet3 adapter.  The pilot of ESXi 5.1 for vmxnet3 as a 'physical' NETWORK card has some problems.  Use rather e1000.

Note that you can always use vmxnet3 for any nested VMs, with no problems.

  • VSA and PowerChute Network Shutdown

    Hello

Our environment currently has 2 a vCenter server and ESXi hosts. The vCenter server has all our virtual machines production, which should be able to stop using PCNS with no problems. VSA has been installed and configured for 2 ESXi hosts.

To stop the ASB, could we get into the cluster and attributes specific to the provider in maintenance mode, correct? Yes, in the case of a power outage (like this weekend), is there a way for maintenance mode be entered automatically and for VSA attributes be stopped?

Has anyone tried this configuration successfully?

    Thank you.

I don't know about the need for a shutdown script.

The SBA is designed to be synchrous and not lose data when the device is lost, as long as the system RAID ESXi is set up correctly: the RAID controller works with a saved pile of the cache, and writeback cache is disabled in the disks.

  • VSA and VSADs not mounted Manager time-out

I have some problem in my VSA environment. The first problem is that I can't access the Manager of VSA vSphere client. When I click on the tab is present me with a message "loading" red the a 'loading takes longer than expected, if the cluster is on a network reconfiguration mode disconnect and reconnect' and then eventually times out saying "the VSA Cluster is unavailable connection timed out: connect.

This brings me to my second question, which is the VSADs (two-node cluster) upward as inactive (not mounted) in vCenter. I can't ping the IP mount. However, I can ping the vCenter and two VSA management IP, as well as the IP Address of cluster service. However the management of the cluster (172.16.32.20) and NFS IP are not available.

I lost power to my lab and things have not stopped correctly. Since I put under tension, it was unavailable. I've included the VSA Manager log.

It seems to me the IP SAS is not. However, I do not know why?

Any ideas would be great there are machines that I really want to revisit those NFS mounts.

    Hi Owen,.

From the description you posted, it seems that either your cluster in maintenance mode or that there is something wrong with the backend network prevents the adjoining VSA VMs between them.

You can check if the VSA VMS are in maintenance mode by using WSCli and getSvaServerInfo running. To do:

Open a console session (command prompt) on the server where the VSA Manager is installed.

Navigate to the directory that contains the file WSCLI.jar (C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\VSA Manager\tools\).

    Run: java-jar WSCLI.jar getSvaServerInfo

Check the two VMS VSA. If they are both in maintenance mode, you can get them to come out of maintenance mode by running:

    java-jar WSCLI.jar exitMaintenanceMode

Check the VMs got out of maintenance mode by running getSvaServerInfo again. With the two VM VSA out of maintenance mode, the address IP of Cluster should appear. Check if the cluster itself is in maintenance mode by running:

    java-jar WSCLI.jar getStorageCluster

If the cluster is in maintenance mode, you can either take the cluster out of maintenance mode by running:

    java-jar WSCLI.jar exitStorageClusterMaintenanceMode

Or, at this point, the VSA Manager must be able to connect to the Cluster and you can take the cluster out of maintenance via the user interface mode. Once this is done, your NFS shares must be online.

In case the system VMs VSA are not in maintenance mode, there is probably a problem preventing the VSA VMs to communicate. Indeed, even if the VSA VMS are in maintenance mode, if there is a network problem, you won't be able to remove them from the maintenance mode. So, if the steps above fail, first step should probably be to check networking (necessity of VMs to communicate on networks of front and background).

  • VSA and VCenter fails

If I have a two cluster nodes VSA, how a VCenter failure affects the cluster and the virtual machines running on the cluster?

Moreover, given that we rotated the VSA cluster, we found it very resilient fault... tried to take down the network, host etc etc and it always retrieves se... excellent product.

The VSA cluster operates cross VC / Manager of VSA.  VC / VSA Manager are only required to monitor and change the configuration.  The cluster performs failover and recover by itself.

I'm glad you like the ASB.  Thank you.

  • EMC Celerra VSA and SRA 4.0.22 - discoverLuns fails

    Hello

When configuring for a SRM lab environment, I encountered an error when the command that is part of the Configuration of the Manager of the range "discoverLuns".

Two Celerra work very well. They are configured for replication. The ESXi can see the Celerra iSCSI LUNS.

Array Manager Software (SRA) is installed.

Two SRM servers are configured and that they can see each other. (Connection established).

If I want to configure "Picture frames", I click on Add and the wizard like to know some details. After you click on 'Connect' MRS detects the Celerra. After you select the Celerra and clicked OK, SRM trying to find LUN being replicated on the table. This is the step that fails with the error message: error while executing command 'discoverLuns '.

Also, it seems that only the Celerra ID from the remote Celerra (recovery site) is missing. In my case the remote ID of table must be 'BB005056AD73620000-server_2' instead of '-server_2.

Unfortunately I can't change the Code of the Java byte (the SRA is written in Java, the 'command.pl' Perl is used to start the java program with entry XML).

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you!

    Hello

    Your problem has been solved?

I have installation just my SRM laboratory, using the same version of the SRA.

Initially, I had the same problem but only because I changed my name default data mover "server_2" to "vsa01-server_2.

The problem disappeared after changing the name to server_2.

I searched EMC powerlink and found that a problem with the old version SRA about interconect name cannot contain "_".

Your newspaper, the interconnect name is 'dr_to_pr '.

You might want to try to change it to "dr to pr'.»

  • I don't have an error code. I play Aion with windows 7, it starts and runs really nice on max settings. The problem is that the computer shut down just when he wants to without error or explanation please help.

Is there a way to know why your pc stops the poeople HP say this is a problem of windows 7 and can not help.

It could be that the computer is running a little on the hot side and the thermal protection has kicked. One of the down sides to get a pre-generated computer who is yo have no control over the thermal limits. Try to blow out the dust accumulated inside the computer, just him ensure that the computer is turned off and unplugged before you open the side of your computer. You might need a couple of compressed air or one of these mini vacuum computer systems that can act as a fan as well. I hope this helps.

  • Enable and disable the NIC with the Standard users

    Hi guys.

We set up a phone book ad within our Organization. Additional client systems (Windows 7 and Windows 8) to the field. Domain users are accessing the system with the permission of standard users. I don't want to give administrator permissions. But the user should be able to disable and enable the network adapter without giving administrator permissions. Please suggest.

Thanks in advance for the help.

It is not possible.  Only an administrator is allowed to modify the configuration of systemic, such as activation or deactivation of the hardware components of the system.
