VSphere 4.1 / Cluster Split Vsphere 5.0

Hello

We upgrade to vSphere 5 However there is one critical application that is not supported on vSphere 5.  That's why I was asked to investigate the possibility of running a cluster HA/DRS with vSphere 4.1 and vSphere hosts 5.

I realize that this configuration is not ideal, but we don't have enough resources to afford dedidcating a crowd of vSphere 4.1 to perform this unique virtual machine.

1. first off, correct me if I'm wrong, but vSphere 4.1 cannot run VMs with hardware VM Version 8?

2. next, then virtual machines that are running on vSphere hosts 5 and are running the latest version of the VMtools vMotioned on hosts vSphere 4.1?

3 are there other concerns, that you can think of running with some hosts on vSphere 4.1 and some on vSphere 5 for long periods of time?

Thank you.

1 - OK

2 - No, don't update the tools to version 5.0 if you host esx 4.1 hae

3 - 4.1 and 5 mix pretty easily if you're updating of tools, and you are not using hardware version 8, you have already mentioned above.

  • Move cluster configured with replication SRM and Vsphere

    All,

We go 2 groups in the near future to achieve a geographical distance between the 2 sites.

A cluster is equipped with VMware 5.0 replication SRM and vSphere and the other cluster running VMware 5.5 and SRM in combination with replication of vSphere.

What is the best way to move these clusters, I must stop the replication or interrupt the replication process and are these action to perform on SRM or we need to perform any action on the virtual machine itself?

I read that a stop is setting the State to not configured including destroy all files in the target directory.

Does anyone have an experience by physically moving a cluster managed by SRM (and replication of vSphere)

    Hello user of VMware

I have a very strange problem with my vmware ha cluster and nfs.

vSphere is installed on two servers HP ProLiant DL380 Gen8

vCenter runs on a HP ProLiant DL160 G6.

NFS and iSCSI is already running on a HP ProLiant DL180 G8

In my data center, I have configured a cluster HA and DRS, on two cluster nodes that are mounted the iscsi and nfs data banks.

If I create or move a virtual machine for the data nfs virtual machine storage will be unprotected, but if I move the iscsi data store the virtual machine, the virtual machine will be protected.

The virtual machine could not be vSphere protected HA and HA cannot attempt to restart after a power failure.

I found many users with these problems and I tried the following:

-Disable and enable the HA option

-Delete cluster nodes, cluster of delete, create the cluster add nodes again.

-Remove the old VirtualCenter and installed a new windows with the latest version of vCenter Server

But nothing helps, does anyone have an idea?

    Hello

Need help to replicate Microsoft cluster at 2 knots.  I know that vSphere replication is compatible with virtual RDM so will change to virtual RDM physica, but the controller SCSI ROW of nodes have buses sharing (Physics) is enabled. How to reproduce these groupings with SCSI bus sharing enabled, since vsphere replication does not support sharing of bus

Thanks, waiting for some thoughts/work around

vSphere replication doesn't support MSCS, see: KB VMware: vSphere Replication FAQ

Is VSphere replication supported MSCS clusters?

vSphere replication does not work with virtual disks open mode "multi-writer". Virtual machines MSCS cluster are configured with virtual disks open mode "multi-writer", so vSphere replication will not work with MSCS configuration.

  • Environment of horizon 6.1 with Vsphere 6 cluster, Dungeon of Win7 64 desktop computers to crash/restart

I manage about 7 different environments from view of the Horizon for customers, others on prem and some in our hosted environment.  I had no problem (recently) with any of them and some of them exist on this same environment Vsphere, and another is on the same version of the view of the Horizon.  The only noticeable difference is I think environmental issues are on version 7 of material and the environment of the problem is 11.  The problems are spend on all servers in the cluster, and the cluster includes other view environments, using the same storage array in certain circumstances to work.

So, the problem is that these Win 7 64 desktop computers are crashing or restart, and I can't understand log exactly which.  I don't see "WinBSOD" in the newspaper.  Users report the problem after walking away for a few minutes, and they come back to a black screen, move their mouse to try to wake up and usually lose the connection.  It seems that maybe there is a problem with video, but I can't really know what or why.  They have all 35 MB of video memory, and most of the users are running 1920 x 1080 or lower on a single monitor, so this should be more than enough.

A journal of one of the machines having the issue is attached.  Someone at - it a preview?  able to point me in the right direction?  I generally understand such things on my own, but this one has me pretty puzzled.

  • QueryResultNotFoundException was lifted when a workflow is called in vsphere client web and select a cluster

    Hello

I use vsphere vCenter 6.0 and 6.0 Orchestrator vRealize. I save the vRO the vCenter in web client vRealize Orchestrator plugin.

VRO 6.0 here is a "Add host to cluster" workflow under vCenter-> Host-> check management. I have add this workflow in the web client, so that I can call him when I right-click on a cluster.

I run this workflow and select a cluster in the first stage, and click Next. An error like this:

com VMware.o11n.Sdk.QueryService.QueryResultNotFoundException: could not find the object of type 'VC:ClusterComputeResource' with the id 'WIN-VCENTER6.MYDOMAIN.COM/domain-c28 '.

I tried a few other env but get the same error. I also tried 5.5 and 5.5 vCO vCenter, and it worked fine.

Does anyone know if this is a bug or if I can avoid this error by configuring my env? Thanks in advance.

    Kind regards

    Vicky

    Hi Vicky,

When you have configured the server vCenter by vRO (using 'Add a vCenter server instance' the workflow), how did you address vCenter server - as an IP (for example. 10.20.23.34) or as a fully qualified hostname (eg. WIN-VCENTER6. MYDOMAIN.COM)? Please make sure that it was the last; If you have added your vCenters vRO using IP addresses or short host names, there might be a few problems, so you need to de-register the vRO vCenter and add them again.

  • Can this load balance and HA cluster with vsphere?

    Hello community!

Really new on this type of subject, so forgive me if IAM iam do or say something wrong. I'm here to try to understand better this amazing tool so I apreciate your time and knowlodge!
Im trying to create a failover and balancing cluster with Vsphere, the goal is try to install an MSSQL DB server where the customer can access more quickly and do not have downtime when a node is down.

I read a lot but still I can't have a full understand abt, so if anyone tries to explain something, please be patient and explain with precision.

All doing wrong if you really work at home as a LABORATORY, and I can do it, hurt trying to use it to get a job because I don't have and I really need one soon!
Here is my diagram is possible?

    Diagrama Cluster HA-DRS.jpg

Well ill to explain it, I have clients that will send a work for my DB load process, which will affect on MSSQL Server installed on the 12 TB logical drive created from the union of all methods virtual storage. Each virtual storage is just a virtual disk created on a virtual machine that is hosted on the physical server (node).

So I have 4 physical server which have 1 VM each with 3 TB of virtual disk, the goal is the customer can send the process of workload on 4 nodes to have a quicker response, and if a single node fails for any reason, the other node can operate withow problem.

physical server Medley: don't know yet if I have to use one or install VMWARE directly.

Sagna VM: Windows Server 2008 (don't know if necessary or if I can just install SQL Server directly)

MSSQL Server VM: 2008 Enterprise (still don't know if I have to use this one)

Well I can't think right now on the other details, but if you tell me ill be happy to write it.

Sorry if my writing or semantics is false but English is not my first language.

Really thanks to get to this point and share your knowlodge!

    Best regards, josh of Argentina!

Josh, please correct me if I'm wrong, you have 4 knots of MS - SQL, and you need to read/write at the same time in a shared database of 12 to.

If this is the case check the following documents:

  • Microsoft Cluster in vSphere using RDM disks

Gentlemen, I have doubts that sounds simple, but it is better to ask than to the hurt things.

Here, in the company where I started work two weeks ago. We have two servers of files Windows Server 2012, both are part of Microsoft Cluster Services, these two servers are virtualized on VMware ESXi 5.5, each on a host, here we use vCenter HA and DRS.

Well, these file servers 03 RDM disks connected to the fibre channel, storage only disks are online only on node 1, node 2 drives are present in the computer Manager, but marked offline.

To my knowledge, my experience of simple Microsoft cluster, the disks must be online on all nodes for disaster recovery is quick, for example through cluster in Windows Server 2008 R2 and Hyper-V Server R2 of 2012 using iSCSI storage and always leave the disks online on all nodes.

My question is: is there a reason why a node drives remain online and the other node is taken offline? Because of RDM technology?

I can then do disks on node 2 as well as online without risk?

I'm an environment that left another analyst configured, had never made Windows Server 2012 in virtualized VMware vSphere servers cluster using RDM disks, so made the questions, so instead of simply in clicking on node 2 of disks and makes them online it is better to ask before

    Thank you!

Ivanildo, is the normal Windows Server Failover Clustering behavior, since it is an active/passive cluster architecture, where a single node read/write a disk at a time, and is not a problem due to the use of RDMS in vSphere environment.

The bellow image show two discs a WSFC, where 6 disk Offline on that particular node and the 7 disc is online:

And, do TRY not to put the disks as offline being online on another node through disk management, this task must be performed by using the Failover Cluster Management console.

  • Can't see resource calculate in the vRA, even if the vSphere Agent log shows a cluster

I'm debating on the issue of whether the question should be minimal vRA installation requires anonymous authentication in IIS?  Or am I crazy?  I let you choose how to respond.

This is a new installation of minimal vRA 6.2.1 new identity applice, vRA device and a single server Win2012R2 for all roles of IaaS. Gentle and the pre - req check tool was happy before you install it.

However, when I went to add an endpoint yesterday for the vSphere Agent, I installed, I get the following error in the logs of vRA:

Exception occurred retrieving the work of VRM: request the HTTP is unauthorized with client authentication scheme 'Anonymous '. The server received authentication header was 'NTLM, Negotiate. " Inner exception: the remote server returned an error: (401) unauthorized.

A minimal installation uses anonymous authentication?  The pre - req just had check tool has that disable and use Windows authentication with the suppliers of the following order: NTLM, Negotiate.  Hmmm..., well although perhaps I'll activate anonymous and restart the agent of vSphere and see what happens.  I restart the agent and now I only get an error on the authentication and the following of the vSphereAgent.log seems to say that the endpoint is communication and a cluster of back of the vCenter:

    [03/31/2015 10:22:08] [Debug]: Thread-Id: 10 - Ping sent successfully: [<? xml version = "1.0" encoding = "utf-16"? > < pingReport = "vSphereAgent-XXXXXX" CurrentVersion "6.2.0.0" = Nom_agent agentLocation = "VRAIaaSServer01" WorkitemsProcessed = "0" > < Endpoint externalReferenceId = "F86349A2-B8D7-4E17-9599-CC4F5C9E94B3" / > < nodes > < node = "ClusterName" type name = 'Cluster' identity="XXXXXX.mydomain.com/vCenter 5.5 Test/host/NOMCLUSTER" datacenterExternalReferenceId = "data center-21" isCluster = "True" managementEndpointId = "72195415-bdb6-4f7a-a3ac-92b9c4eca960" / > < / nodes > < AgentTypes > < AgentType name = "Hypervisor" / > < AgentType name = "vSphereHypervisor" / > < / AgentTypes > < / pingReport >]

    [03/31/2015 10:22:08] [Debug]: Thread-Id: 10 - Ping completed report

However, when I navigate to compute resources under endpoint, vRA shows no clumps.

    What happens one? I'm going crazy?   Well, maybe, but actually part of the problem is that calculation of resources are not displayed when you think, until you go to groups - fabric groups and then check the clusters that you would like to use vRA.  Now when you navigate to calculate the select cluster resources will appear.  {shakes head and face Palm}

The lesson is, so don't forget the section group of fabric with the addition or subtraction of compute resources.  In addition, it is perhaps orphan computing resources in the database.  The following KB may help solve this problem.  VMware KB: deletion of an endpoint in vRealize Automation fails with the error: the endpoint is used by comput #...

Hope this helps some that can run into questions adding vCenter endpoint computing resources.

    Hey Sean,

OK on one of my IIS servers

At the level of the server host level anonymous authentication is the SSO is enabled

Move forward in websites - Site by default - Windows authentication is the only thing allowed

For the repository - anonymous and authentication Windows are enabled

for the vcac - forms authentication is the only permit

  • vSphere 5.0 and 5.5 ESXi cluster

    Hello

We intend to improve vsphere 5.0 and 5.5 in 2015.  We are truly in a process of buying new servers and I would like to know if I can get the two 5.0 and 5.5 to ESXi ESXi in the same cluster.  If it is possible I vMotion virtual machines in 5.0 for servers 5.5 ESXi ESXi servers and get the ESXi 5.0 on the cluster.

    Thank you.

Yes, you will first get vCenter to 5.5 and you cannot upgrade the hardware virtual past version 9 until all hosts have been upgraded.  In addition, you cannot move data warehouses to VMFS5 until all hosts have been upgraded.

    I hope this helps...

  • vSphere API: get cannot correct Cluster performance statistics

Is it the right place to ask specific questions on vSphere for extraction of Performance API? If this isn't the case, please let me know where I should post instead.

    Overview

I do something wrong, because at least the value of mem.consumed.AVERAGE is different from what shows the GUI vSphere, that bothers me.

In addition, the list of statistics available (from vimPort.queryAvailablePerfMetric ()) for a ClusterComputeResource resourcePool is smaller that what (I think) the documentation [1] says it should be.

What I am doing wrong? I hope that these two problems are related...

    I use the SDK 5.5 against a 5.1 vCenter.

    Details: mem.consumed Clusters

Here, I have access to a ClusterComputeResource resourcePool, and get the statistic of mem.consumed, assuming it's the same metric as the statistical 'consumed' GUI for a cluster. But the API values are lower than the values in the GUI. I don't understand why. Do you have?

Maybe related, our vCenter facility also has some stand-alone ESX hosts. They also have a resourcePool (under a "plain" ComputeResource). The HostSystem both the ComputeResource resourcePool have "consumed" statistic, but also here the ResourcePool "consumed" is that lower to of HostSystem metric consumption.

Metric of usagemhz of the bunch is excactly the same GUI, so at least a part of what I do seems to be just.

How can I get the values for "consumed" statistic a cluster that shows the GUI?

    Details: Measures available for clusters

My own code gives the same results as com.vmware.performance.PrintCounters of SDK/vsphere-ws/java/JAXWS/samples/com/vmware/performance/PrintCounters.java in the file SDK.zip:

    $ JAVA_HOME = / usr/lib/jvm/java-6-Sun/jre. run.sh com.vmware.performance.PrintCounters - url https://Gaius/SDK -basic-connection - username "xxxx" - password "yyy" - entitytype ResourcePool - entityname resources - filename /tmp/resource.xml

    $ grep called InfoNom-key /tmp/resource.xml

    > key called InfoNom < usagemhz < / called InfoNom-key >

    > key called InfoNom < vmmemctl < / called InfoNom-key >

    > key called InfoNom < consumed < / called InfoNom-key >

    > key called InfoNom < generals < / called InfoNom-key >

    > key called InfoNom < cpuentitlement < / called InfoNom-key >

    > key called InfoNom < mementitlement < / called InfoNom-key >

But where is mem.totalmb? or cpu.totalmhz? Looking at the GUI to Performance vSphere / advanced / table Options... / CPU / last day, totalmhz statistics is here, and I can see values for it in the GUI. But why not on the API?

When you look at the documentation for vSphere for memory counter PerformanceManager (5.1 [1], 5.5 [2]), I do not understand what it means that the entity column is empty. This means that it should or should not be available for a ResourcePool?

    Links

    1. 5.1 memory counters
    2. 5.5 meter memory

I discovered what was going on. I asked resourcePool of ClusterComputeResource and ClusterComputeResource not directly. Once I asked the ClusterComputeResource directly, I had access to all statistics, as I expected and it had the values that I expected.

  • Creating a Cluster of Linux RHEL on vSphere 5

    Hello

Is it possible to linux RHEL VMs on ESXi V5 hosts vSphere cluster?

I have a few RDMs I can add 1 VM, but they are not visible to add them to the other virtual computer.  These ROW are the shared storage using two virtual machines in an active/passive cluster with RHEL.

Windows clusters seem to work out of the box there is some advanced configuration settings, I need to add first?

    Thank you

    Hello

The reason is that, by default, storage filters are enabled (see storage filters - yellow brick for more information).

To allow VMS access a raw disk, even through the RDM, you must disable the ROW filter. To do this, refer to VMware KB: LUN mechanism creating filtering RDM .

    I hope this helps.

I don't know that just 'VM Cluster' is that.

Please help me to explain different from 'VM Cluster' and 'Cluster host.

Cluster VM are features such as MSCS (MS Cluster) or Oracle RAC. You can see examples on the following doc:

  • View and vSphere #Host 5.1 by cluster

Read the guide to Architecture 5.1 view I noticed it says host up to 8 per cluster HA 32 if replica are on NFS.

I could have sworn I read somewhere that with 5.1 and 5.1 vSphere view, you could have 32 host in a cluster using linked clones that reside on VMFS, but I can't seem to find the article that declares the fact.

Can we please configrm or refuse if this is true.

AFAIK the limit was lifted only for the clones running on NFS.    There is always the limit of 8 host based VMFS related clones.
