VSphere 4 is not memory adding physical RAM

I have a server running standard Vshpere 4.  He had 16 GB of RAM and I have added another 8 to 24 GB.  When I fed it to the top, vcenter (and vclient in the server itself) show always 16 GB for the server however, the material status tab it shows 6 slots with 4 GB ea.  So it seems to me the RAM is stored physically but VSphere is not reconizing.  Any suggestions?

Thank you

The server itself recognizes the additional RAM? Servers generally require the correct placement of the RAM modules.

Please check that the RAM is displayed correctly in the BIOS of the server.

    Hi Teresa Barton,.

This behavior is the expected result of some hardware and software factors. Various devices in a typical computer require memory-mapped access. This is known as memory-mapped i/o (MMIO). For the MMIO space is available for 32-bit operating systems, the MMIO space must reside in the first 4 GB of address space.

You can check out the link below that may help you resolve the issue.
System memory shown in the system information dialog box in Windows Vista is less than expected if the 4 GB of RAM is installed
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929605/en-us

Note When the physical RAM that is installed on a computer equals the address space that is supported by the chipset, the total system available to the operating system memory is always less than the physical RAM installed. For example, consider a computer equipped with an Intel 975 X chipset, which takes in charge of 8 GB of address space. If you install 8 GB of RAM, the memory available to the operating system system will be reduced by the requirements of PCI configuration. In this scenario, PCI configuration requirements reduce the memory available to the operating system in an amount that is between about 200 MB and 1 GB approximately. The discount depends on the configuration.

  • adding extra RAM

I have a very simple question about adding physical RAM more to my host servers...

Once the physical RAM is added to my host (HP DL380) servers, do I do within the virtual machine to recognize the newly installed RAM or VM just... know?

    any help is appreciated.

    Blu

ESXi will recognize the ram automatically - the one caveat is to remember if you use the free license that you will be limited to 32 GB of physical ram in the ESXi host.

With the virtual machines if you want to assign more virtual ram to the virtual machine, you must do this for each virtual computer.

  • Shared memory is configured on the disk or physical RAM?

    Version: 11.2

    Platform: RHEL 6

On Linux, we have put the following into /etc/sysctl.conf to set up shared memory.

    # 61 gb shared memory configuration

    kernel.shmmax = 65719476736

Where this 61 GB of memory is allocated? The physical RAM or disk?

Shared memory will be allocated RAM and may be subject to be paged out (written to disk).

However, you should use huge pages, which are not subject to the paging or swapping.  (The value vm.nr_hugepages dans/etc/sysctl.conf.)

In addition, setting kernel.shmmax allocates exactly zero bytes of shared memory.

shmmax is the upper limit of the size of a single shared memory segment.  It is not actually assign * nothing *, though.

He also, does * not * set a limit on the total amount shared memory that can be affected.  That is controlled by shmall.

    Hope that helps,

  • Windows Performance Index (WEI) is not available after adding more RAM and Win7 request reactivation.

I have Win7 Home Premium 32 bit installed on new computer OEM. I added more RAM (DDR3 1333 pair). Windows has asked to be reactivated, I did. Now WEI has no active button, shows no rating at all and says that the machine is not classified. He previously worked. What was the cause? All solutions?

Maybe Norton causes the same question. Have you tried to recalculate WEI after uninstalling Norton?

I heard that vmware has now removed the limit of VRAM in Vsphere 5.1. but I have no idea with the limitation of physical RAM. I'll buy the standard license. but before that I want to know about it. because I have 2 guests with 2 processors each with 80 GB of ram each. then the total CPU is 4 and RAM is 160 GB. Please advise me.

You can put up to 2 TB of RAM in a single ESXi host.

  • Physical RAM

And, Yes, I read the fine manual.  Honest.

What is structures of memory the current Oracle WRT to the 'guidelines' as a percentage of physical RAM for the database server?

For example, if I have a compute node Exadata with 256 GB of RAM, how much this physical RAM can realistically / safely use?

I know in days passes, recommendation of Oracle used 50% of the total RAM, but I'm sure that the operating system does not need to 128 GB of RAM, etc.

I think an approximate indication of 75% must be with Exadata model nodes:

-with 72 GB of RAM - 54 GB of RAM allocated to the database instance SGA / PGAs with 18 GB left.

-with 256 GB of RAM - 192 GB of RAM allocated to the database instance SGA / PGAs with 64 GB of RAM left.

This gives flexibility to the case where the PGAs hungry and take more of PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET, but not to lose all this beautiful, expensive memory.

    Thoughts?

    Mark

    Hi Mark,

I've seen the 80% number thrown around when it comes to allication memory (MOS doc 223730.1 for example), but these guidelines are from when the servers had a lot less memory.  Assuming that you use huge pages (and you should!), you could probably get away with aid still more: on a server of 256 GB, same allocate up to 90% of the leaves more than 25 GB of RAM for the operating system.

  • Satellite L30-105 (PSL33E) Windows Vista does not see the DVD - ram UJ-850 s

    Hello

I have a Satellite L30-105 (PSL33E) with windows Vista. Windows Vista does not recognize the DVD - ram. BIOS recognize DVD-ram. I tried to download the drivers for the DVD-ram, but they are not on the side of Toshiba.

Who can help me to get the right driver or learn more? Problems with the carpet * a DVD-ram uj-850 s ATA device and windows Vista.

    Hello

The CD/DVD drive needs no special drivers!
Vista includes a Microsoft driver that works with all CURIOUS s (CD/DVD drives)

Simply said, the Vista should recognize the drive without any problems.

A few questions; did you get any error messages? What is the status of Device Manager? Do you see yellow exclamation points?

There is an old way to correct a similar drive problem. It worked on XP then try it on Vista OS.
It of necessary to update the registry entry
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    1. click on the start menu.
    2. If it is a Vista machine in the search box type regedit without quotes.
    3. look for the registry key mentioned above.
    4. in the right panel you'll see something along the lines of UpperFilter and UpperFilter you want to click on each key filter and tap on delete. Click Yes when asked to confirm if you want to delete the key.
    5. restart Windows.
6 let me know if it works.

  • Satellite M200 does not start after the RAM 4 GB upgrade

    Hello

I recently updated my RAM just to speed things up a bit as RAM is so cheap these days.
    I have a MEAC M200 T2130 Vista with 1 GB sticks (2 * 512).

The new sticks are 2 * 2 GB Dane - elec DDR2 pc2-5300, when I put the two and restarted the hard drive light came briefly and then it is just options BIOS of Idol, no POST.

I tried to use a single stick of 512 MB with two new sticks and they both work in a 2.5 GB configuration just not together that also this only works when the stick of 512 is in internal housing and not vice versa.

So if someone has had a similar prob or can give me some advice that would be great, I'm not sure if the motherboard can support 4 GB?
    Thank you, Dave.

    Hello

There are two possibilities why your M200 doesn't not start after upgrading RAM.
First the RAM installed may be not compatible or could be faulty or the computer laptop doesn't support 4 GB of RAM.

I put t know what M200 do you have exactly, but you can check the installed chipset and could check on the Intel page if this chipset would support 4 GB of RAM.

He would remove the menu correctly - item but the menu item is not yet added.

to remove the previous menu item you would need a reference to it.

I am trying to add a new user and he says "we're sorry, but something went wrong. This user has not been added to this PC. Code: 0xd0000225

So, to find the cause of my particular problem. For some reason, the Security Packages that use Microsoft Accounts were not registered on my new (well, refurbished) Lenovo laptop.  For the record, it's really, really unexpected, and I bet a re - install shiny media, or a reset on a machine whose image reference is good, will arrange.  Oh, well, this isn't an option for everyone.

Again, I have experienced this on two laptops of Lenovo separated in a month, so there is probably something in common there.  Perhaps that the custom Windows image of Lenovo has been corrupted, it's the AV of the s/w trial resulting perhaps is to detach the regkeys, who knows?

In any case, I have just added 'pku2u' and 'livessp"for Security Packages REG_MULTI_SZ key under the HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsaregistry key.

Immediately, I was able to add Microsoft Accounts. :)

(If you already pku2u and livessp in the list of Security Packages, of course, this isn't your problem and just move on.)  ;)

CAUTION: do not remove * nothing * of the existing list in this key, type very, very carefully.  If really blow you up when you change this key, you can probably clean your PC, because the local security authority (LSA) is at the heart of the system.  There's a reason that Microsoft told you not to monkey with the registry.  You have been warned. ;)

Would be great if Microsoft could provide a Fix - It script that could resolve this problem and eliminate the human factor of type regedit in safe...

In the meantime, if you are comfortable with regedit, this might be something to check if you hit this problem.
