VSphere 5.0 agent vm

Thank you all,

What is the use of agent 5.0 vm. What is the best practice configuration.

Thank you

SIV

A virtual agent is a virtual machine that performs a specific function for the virtual infrastructure. An example of a VM agent would be for example a vShield device Endpoint is an antivirus solution. By "tagging" this VM as VM agent ensure that this virtual machine gets power first in the event of a host failure. We do this to ensure that the service is available before all other virtual machines.

It's the current order:

  • Agent of virtual machines
  • Secondary virtual machines of FT
  • Virtual machines configured with a reboot of the top priority,
  • Virtual machines configured with a medium restart priority
  • Restart of Virtual Machines configured with low priority

We would like to know that change is a feature where Symantec BackupExec vSphere?

    Thank you

You are able to find the vSphere Linux host. / Unix agent?

    NO.

If you use Symantec VMware Agent, you will see a specific area.

If you are using VCB + script do you the backup of the area of the local scene... so you only see your VCB proxy.

  • vCenter agent name inconsitency in vRA 7.0.1

    Hey all,.

I've never used the configurationadmin (I've always done manually) before, and it fails for me that it cannot find the endpoint resource.

That's what I install during installation (in the Wizard)

    vra_during_installation.png

This is what failed the configurationadmin configured before it (for me it is OK):

    vra_endpoint.png

and that's what the newspaper complains:

    vra_log.png

Endpoint attached: "r4-xxxx" is not found. Endpoint should not be called 'r4 - xxx ". In the installer, I have configured as the name "vCenter. "r4 - xxx" is the name of a field FULL of my vcenter

If I check it on the computer of the agent itself:

    =====

    C:\Program Files (x 86) \VMware\vCAC\Agents\vCenter> get DynamicOps.Vrm.VRMencrypt.exe VRMAgent.exe.config

    managementEndpointName: r4 - vc01.site2.corpit.tm

    doDeletes: true

    =====

It seems even the agent thinks that his name is vCenter and the FQDN of the vCenter is r4-xxxx

I then deleted the endpoint and created by configadmin credentials. Then the config initial vsphere redemandee. This time, I used the FQDN of vCenter as the name of the agent and the host name. And it worked?

    agent_created.png

She finds the cluster and added as a resource. All successful

    successful.png

That is not supposed to happen I think (the least not based on my past experience)

    kallischlauch

Actually 6, you got a drop-down menu for the type of agent - like vSphere and the agent called the endpoint name...

It was really confusing so in 7 the name has changed to reflect the correct designation...

The name of the agent is now descriptive for example...

    Agent name: SiteA

    Endpoint: SiteA-vCenter

    Agent name: SiteB

    Endpoint: SiteB-vCenter

Makes sense? At least that's how I explain it to myself.

  • Configuration of high availability in vSphere alarms

    Hello

We have three ESXi hosts in a cluster and, recently, one of the hosts that failed (I have connected a matter of pension with VMWare to get assistance to research into why).  The virtual machines on this host automatically migrate to the other two hosts in the cluster, but we did not know that this had happened until we saw some VMS showing high CPU ready using vCOPs.

My boss asked me to alert us if the high availability feature is used as it was the case here.  I looked on Google and the VMWare Web site, but I can't find anything specific but I've only worked with VMWare products for about a month so it could well be that I'm looking for simply not the right thing.

I would be grateful for any help, as I have said that I am very new to VMWare, so I hope I got all the information that is needed, if it's not made me know.

    See you soon,.

  • vSphere HA State stuck in "Election."

    Hello

I'm currently playing with several test environments, and I have the following case:

-1 vCenter 5.0 913577 who has 1 cluster with 2 allowed ESXi 5.0 1117897, HA hosts and powered 3 on virtual machines

Now someone showing what HA, I turned off the host of the slave (power button), all went well, that virtual machines were restarted on the master ESXi host.

After I turned on the slave, moved 1 machine on the slave and 2 remained on the master. Everything was rosy, I tried the same test with the host master (he turned the key off), and the fun starts now:

-I can see in the summary of the slave host: vSphere HA State: election and on the cluster error: could not find vSphere HA master agent. Virtual machines running on the host master are always down.

Should not the slave host resume Captain function (because there is no other host ESXi)? Am I missing something, or?

Please let me know if you need additional information or something.

    Thank you in advance.

And when I configured HA, I've always had the warning that "vSphere HA agent on this host could not reach address isolation: 192.168.1.1.

Maybe it's the reason. If the captain dies, the slave cannot see itself, i.e. without address isolation, no traffic for the election of the other guests. In this case, the slave considers himself isolated and does not become a master. To resolve this problem, configure an IP address as the default gateway (for example address the host VMware Workstation virtual network card you use) or set an existing address of isolation in the advanced settings.

  • Distributed in geo location installation

    Hello

I'm developing a deployment architecture for Distributed vRA together geo-location on WAN where my main location would all vRA management components and distance will have Infrastructure to deploy VMS to.

    I had listed on having

    -Democrats (O & W) with specific skills

    -VRO to run local workflows

-vSphere proxy Agent to have a deployment.

-There may be different forest areas as well.

I don't know whether or not the model Manager is also required at the remote location. any idea!

If someone can tell me the right document to support this deployment, would be most appreciated.

    Thank you

    MG

Here's a blog recently written by one of our consultants, but it talks about multiple instances of piles of vRA. geo-location | VMware Consulting Blog - Articles of VMware

For a single instance, you may still have only about IaaS and vPostgres database active in any service once and also only active managers (... \vCAC\Server\ManagerService.exe), so you can split the node, but you will always have these constraints. You could place another service manager in another location, but it will be in passive mode. Keep your orchestrator DEM and DEM all workers.

vRA is not distributed at the regional level as other CMP areas. Your best bet is to keep the vRA mgmt stack together, and then distribute your agents vSphere beside your vCenter Server Proxy. The reason vSphere directed proxy agents and collect data during the datacollection process when it's over, it's a hand of time out of return to Service Manager to commit to the DB - it also to process applications at the endpoint by using the SDK. If disperse you your agents to proxy of vSphere more away from your end points of vCetner, it has get a latency more caring.

The other component that you could disperse is the vR orchestrators, according to what made the vRO server. You can take advantage of several tenants and set up different vRealize rally by tenant when you use the Services in advance or service plans, but you may also take advantage of the property of the client VMware.VCenterOrchestrator.EndpointName running heel workflows and where you can specify the vRO server to use, but it depends on what are your workflows.

  • Limitations of architecture with replication of VM with physical RDM Mode

What are the Limitations of Architecture with replication of VM connected with physical RDM Mode in vsphere replication. Why VMware does not support this?

I will add some colors to the response of GS. A particular interest with regard to the physical path RDM (pRDM) works, summarize these two chips of the article:

    • Physical mode specifies minimal virtualization SCSI of the mapped device, allowing greater flexibility for SAN management software.
    • VMkernel passes all SCSI commands to the device, with one exception - the REPORT LUNS command is virtualized, so that the VMkernel can isolate the LUN to the virtual machine owner. Otherwise, all the physical characteristics of the underlying hardware are exposed.

There is an integrated in vSphere vSphere (RV) replication agent that has several functions. In particular, she keeps track of the Scriptures to the virtual machine. When a replication cycle occurs, the changed data is replicated to the target location. The VR agent should be able to 'see' These Scriptures to follow. Given that the physical mode all SCSI commands directly to the device, the VR agent is unable to follow these changes for replication.

  • Can't see resource calculate in the vRA, even if the vSphere Agent log shows a cluster

I'm debating on the issue of whether the question should be minimal vRA installation requires anonymous authentication in IIS?  Or am I crazy?  I let you choose how to respond.

This is a new installation of minimal vRA 6.2.1 new identity applice, vRA device and a single server Win2012R2 for all roles of IaaS. Gentle and the pre - req check tool was happy before you install it.

However, when I went to add an endpoint yesterday for the vSphere Agent, I installed, I get the following error in the logs of vRA:

Exception occurred retrieving the work of VRM: request the HTTP is unauthorized with client authentication scheme 'Anonymous '. The server received authentication header was 'NTLM, Negotiate. " Inner exception: the remote server returned an error: (401) unauthorized.

A minimal installation uses anonymous authentication?  The pre - req just had check tool has that disable and use Windows authentication with the suppliers of the following order: NTLM, Negotiate.  Hmmm..., well although perhaps I'll activate anonymous and restart the agent of vSphere and see what happens.  I restart the agent and now I only get an error on the authentication and the following of the vSphereAgent.log seems to say that the endpoint is communication and a cluster of back of the vCenter:

    [03/31/2015 10:22:08] [Debug]: Thread-Id: 10 - Ping sent successfully: [<? xml version = "1.0" encoding = "utf-16"? > < pingReport = "vSphereAgent-XXXXXX" CurrentVersion "6.2.0.0" = Nom_agent agentLocation = "VRAIaaSServer01" WorkitemsProcessed = "0" > < Endpoint externalReferenceId = "F86349A2-B8D7-4E17-9599-CC4F5C9E94B3" / > < nodes > < node = "ClusterName" type name = 'Cluster' identity="XXXXXX.mydomain.com/vCenter 5.5 Test/host/NOMCLUSTER" datacenterExternalReferenceId = "data center-21" isCluster = "True" managementEndpointId = "72195415-bdb6-4f7a-a3ac-92b9c4eca960" / > < / nodes > < AgentTypes > < AgentType name = "Hypervisor" / > < AgentType name = "vSphereHypervisor" / > < / AgentTypes > < / pingReport >]

    [03/31/2015 10:22:08] [Debug]: Thread-Id: 10 - Ping completed report

However, when I navigate to compute resources under endpoint, vRA shows no clumps.

    What happens one? I'm going crazy?   Well, maybe, but actually part of the problem is that calculation of resources are not displayed when you think, until you go to groups - fabric groups and then check the clusters that you would like to use vRA.  Now when you navigate to calculate the select cluster resources will appear.  {shakes head and face Palm}

The lesson is, so don't forget the section group of fabric with the addition or subtraction of compute resources.  In addition, it is perhaps orphan computing resources in the database.  The following KB may help solve this problem.  VMware KB: deletion of an endpoint in vRealize Automation fails with the error: the endpoint is used by comput #...

Hope this helps some that can run into questions adding vCenter endpoint computing resources.

After reinstall Agent for the 15 th time and wait for about 10 minutes of frustration, it works, I n believe in miracles, but here's the evidence, what I've done:

Reinstall the name of different Agent than on complete installation

Recreate the different name endpoint of that on complete installation

Check all the newspapers of the time

Place the account that I use for vCAC as the local administrator in vCenter Server

Reboot identity SSO the vCAC App

reload the credentials and to recreate endpoint config I mena on vCAC as infrastructure admin.

  • Version of VSPHERE HA Agent

    Hello

I'm looking for wich version of vsphere HA agent runs on 4.1 ESX / ESXi 4.1 ESXi 5 years?

If you use vCenter 5 and more, HA (fdm) agent connects to fdm.log who should be under/var/run/log (ESX 5 and more) or/var/log/vmware/fdm (on the former hosts). In the eyes of newspaper for a line that starts "Section for VMware Fault Domain Manager '-which will include the version.

  • Agent Host Navisphere and vSphere 4

We are about to upgrade our Dell blades to vSphere ESX 4, connected to a network SAN CX3 - 40.  This is a sweet version of each host.

Traditionally, we have installed the Navisphere host on each host Agent - quote: "the host Agent is necessary because it records the HBAs with the SPs to which they are connected and integrates information from the side host such as device names and the volume '. '"

To read a few threads in these forums, I see that it is probably more the case for ESX 4:

http://communities.VMware.com/message/1317011 quote "the Navisphere host Agent is not required vSphere 4.0 (also referred to as ESX 4.0).» With these versions of VMware, the native driver multipathing carries out a 'push' entry to the bottom of all the paths at each start. "With this feature, there are no agent registration or manual of the host"

Also an exchange of views in http://communities.vmware.com/thread/150924

So here's my question that I am struggling to find a definitive answer for... If the host agent is not necessary, why one apparently exists which is compatible with ESX 4?  I miss on functionality by installing do not?  Is a much better, or more supported than the other?

Happy for an answer and or a pointer to the source of the right information!

    Thank you, Andrew McKenzie

The host Agent provides the minimum value, and is using the EMC storage Viewer PLugin you would get its value back while not requiring the host agent.
