• Cannot connect Vsphere host

  Hi all

  Until now, I was able to connect to the vsphere host, but some do not know how his disconnected, am able to ping the host vsphere 4.0, but when I try to connect client vsphere it gives me error attached.

• vCentre Server 2.5 cannot connect to the VSphere host

  vCentre Server 2.5 with VMware 3.5 host work well, but it cannot connect to VSphere host.

  On step 4: ready to perform, there is an error message:

  vCenter Server 2.5 is not compatible with vSphere 4.x host. I think that VMware announced document compatibility matrix (between hypervisor host ESX and vCenter Server or other components). Please see below URL:

  The solution to this problem is to separate the system server ESXi from the vCenter Server system. To disassociate the host, follow these steps:
  1. using the vSphere Client, connect directly to the host ESXi 5.0 system.
  2. in the left panel (inventory), click host.
  3. in the right panel, click summary. In the section named management hosts at the bottom right, click Ungroup host to vCenter Server.
  Note: You need not put the host in Maintenance Mode.
  4. Once you get the virtual machine or the vCenter server comes back after having completed, add the host on the vCenter server.

  But on my 6.0 ESXi host I did not have this option "host separate vcenter Server." (See attached file)

  I can see separate host to vCenter server on my ESXi host.

  But why would separate you host?

  If your vCenter is dead, you can deploy new vCenter and add ESXi host at new vCenter.

• vSphere host update utility & Internet without computer

  Stuck in a bit of a puzzle here, is there a way to get the updates installed through the utility 'vSphere host update' for ESXi without an Internet connection?  Heck, I'll settle for any method that does not require vCenter.  Before I use to download updates on a USB key and use the Infrastructure Client v2.5 (for ESXi 3.5)... which no longer be an option in the "vSphere host update utility.  Comments welcome.

  Have you tried vihostupdate.pl the vCLI.  The example here is ESXi 3.5 but he's going to pretty much the same for 4.0 http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/esx_3i_rcli/vihostupdate.php.

• vSphere Host Update Utility & ESXi 4.0 Upgrade

  I'm trying to upgrade a system ESXi 3.5 to ESXi 4.0.  I use the guide at:

  When I lauch the vSphere Host Update Utility 4.0, I have a popup that informed me it must download the patches to enable the fix on a functional level.  Problem is the patches are not download or install.  Did someone knows a way I can manually download the patch and install it?  Here is what says the update utility:

  vSphere Host Update Utility to download the patches from the VMware fix repository to enable the functionality of patch.  You still want to connect to the VMware patch repository?

  For the upgrade process, you need the full ZIP file for ESXi 4.0.

  Patching is the next step, but the fist you need to do the upgrade step.

  Hello!

  I get this weird message "Patch this version of the host is not supported by vSphere Host Update Utility" which connection to an ESX4 host (ESX 4.0.0 build 164009) - also see attached screenshot...

  Am I missing something or is this a mistake? Shouldn't be able to patch my ESX4 host with this utility?

• vSwitch not allowing a host connection

  I have a basic configuration of 2 VMhosts

  4 vSwitches

  4 physical networks all mutually exclusive

  vSwitch0 connects 4 NICs per host to a pile of Cisco 3750

  vSwitch1 connects 4 network cards for iSCSI storage area network connected to the Dell Powerconnect stack

  vSwitch2 connects 2 NICs for the vMotion Gigabit switch

  vSwitch3 is a single network adapter that is connected to a single Cisco switch to shared resources with other Cisco switches on corporate network separate

  Everything seems fine, except that only 1 hosts may never have vSwitch3 connected with an active link.

  If I connect the two hosts vSwitch3 vmnic6 (physically) to the Cisco switch is that both, they go down, or we stay down until the two are unplugged and then plugged the premiera remains active.

  For me, I guess it looks like in there are some protocols spanning-tree loop rear blocking ongoing, but this could not be the case if the vSwitch never sends and BPDU?

  I do not understand why vSwitch0 can have 4 network cards on the two hosts connected to a stack of 3750 and work very well, but only one NIC on vSwitch3 to a single Cisco switch allows only one link on one host to be active at a given time?

  The 3750 battery has spanning tree portfast enabled on all ports, and I have admin access to that stack.

  I do not have administrative access to the single Cisco switch on the network of the company so I can't check the config, but would turn config be the problem here?

  The ports are configured for 100 MB on the switches.

  I managed to get in touch with the architect of the network and he indicated that the port security has been enabled on all ports.

  STIs are possible einen individual vSphere Host mit Standardlizenz zu betreiben (non free ESXi)? Wir haben drei-die vSphere hosts, vCenter Server Internet sind in einem. Der hat nur die license Foundation however, kann also nur drei maximum hosts beherbergen. We have nun ein paar Replikationen mit Veeam auf einen vierten Server paper, und ich würde ungern eine neue vSphere license und eine neue vCenter Server license beantragen... da ja scheinbar as support von Veeam ESXi VMware free hat die Kosten möglichst gering halten möchte ich untersagt.

  JA, eine license kann auch einem host direkt zugeordnet weden (see "Licensing a stand-alone ESXi host" in KB VMware: license 5.x and vCenter Server 5.x ESXi) Übrigens schaltet schon eine "Essentials" Version (bis as zu 3 hosts mit max I 2 CPUs) die von z.B. Backupprogrammen block API frei und ein "Kit Essentials" ist als eine license Standard hostel allemal.

• Host connection failure: VMs, warehouses of data inaccessible (in gray)

  Hello everyone,

  I have 1 ESXi host 5.1 throwing alarm: host connection failure. Al a SNMP trap for the entity has been sent.

  I have 10 servers ESXi 5.1 all the amanged by 1 5.1 VCenter server.

  8 ESXi servers belong to a cluster HA and 2 are not in a cluster.

  The issue I'm facing is with 1 ESXi host that is outside the cluster.

  The virtual machines on that host are powered OFF. I am not able to turn on. I am not able to Vmotion them. However, if I remove them from the inventory and add them to the inventory on a different host running, VM works very well.

  Shared on this host data warehouses show Greyed out as well except the local data store (VMFS). I have 1 VM on the local disk of this host and I can power ON the property. But all other virtual machines are the shared data store (NFS - Netapp) and I can not turn on this particular host 1.

  Same data warehouses (NFS - Netapp) are shared with the other 9 (Clustered and nonclustered hosts) ESXi hosts and data store is fine and detected by all hosts.

  I tried to reboot the host several times but without success.

  Can someone please share their expert advise on how to fix this?

• Network host connectivity problem

  Hi all
  I have a bit of a strange an ESXi 5 U1 host connectivity problem. The host has a network card in the 10.0.0.0/24 subnet, and from there it can ping both devices but cannot ping to two other devices. To explain a little better:
  There are two hosts with identical hardware (HP ProLiant DL380 G6) both built with the same picture of ESXi 5 U1 from HP.
  There is an IP address on the switch (Cisco 3750 gigabit) management.
  There are two servers running Openfiler, which I'll use for ISCSI data banks.
  All these devices are in the same VLAN in the 10.0.0.0/24 subnet. host 1 is identical to the 2 host configuration (bar IP address and host name, etc.). Host can ping all devices on the subnet 1 and maybe ping by all devices on the seubnet. 2, the one with the issue of the host can ping and ping the Cisco FoxyCode and host 1, but cannot ping or ping by one of the two boxes openfiler.
  Research on the openfiler boxes I see missing entries in the arp (marked as incomplete) table. Host 2 he entered complete arp for the openfiler boxes. A trace of the wireshark package shows the openfilers sending arp requests but no response from host 2. The Cisco and host 1 to get the answers.
  I have patched the critical fixes host 2 until the last critical and no, applied the latest versions of firmware HP etc. Swapped, cables, tried different switch ports and even different NICs on host 2, all to nothing does not. The Cisco ports configured all identically from host 1. The openfiler boxes are set up with interfaces servile and the Cisco switch ports are etherchannelled for these. There is no etherchannel or link aggregation etc for guests, straight connection to the front in the VLAN.
  Interestingly, all devices also has an interface in the 192.168.2.0/sous-reseau 24 for management and all devices can see all other devices here absolutely fine.
  If anyone has any ideas on where to go from here please let me know, I'm going crazy trying to understand this one!

  I wonder if the Etherchannels in Openfiler servers might not work. Depending on how the switch load balances executives, this could cause a host to work and the other is not.
