VT is enabled on Tecra A10-112

I am considering buying a Tecra A10-112 and I need to know if the VT instructions are enabled. It's a question mark or break for me because I want it to load 64-bit virtualization. I don't think it's as simple that if the processor supports, the BIOS must support it as well.

I had problems before with a purchase of an Acer to find out that they had, apparently, voluntarily disabled the VT instructions and provided no way to turn them on and no way to upgrade the BIOS to allow their use.

I use vmware on a Linux host, if that helps anyone to answer, but I don't think it'll make a difference.

Thanks for your time

Got an answer to my own question, so I'm just posting in case anyone else is interested.

I just spoke to a very helpful guy called Andy, on the line to support UK. He said that Yes, it supports 64-bit virtualization. It was also very confident I could find Toshiba equipment superior to what I had owned previously. I hope it is correct.

  • Tecra A10-112 - cannot use 8 GB of RAM

    Hello

I'm trying to upgrade the memory on my TECRA A10 - 112 PTSB1E (Windows 7 and Server 2008), when I upgrade to 6 GB ram (1 x 4 GB + 1 x 2 GB), there is no problem what so ever (52 MB hardware reserved + 5700 MB useful) Windows.

But when I go to 8 GB of RAM (2 x 4 GB) I get material dedicated to the memory of 4297MB and 3129MB of memory used (under windows) and I can not find how to reduce it to 6 GB levels. The bios sees 8GB, windows detects the 8 GB and the fact CPUID. I tried to update my BIOS on Toshiba support site, but I get "Computer not supported" message when I run the update file, I downloaded at Toshiba.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hello

It would be interesting to know which modules of memory you use exactly. You use the noname or high quality, e. g. Kingston modules?

Maybe the modules are not fully compatible, so you should test the other modules.

Also, what program/tool tells you this information on reserved hardware memory? If the BIOS and Windows recognize 8 GB, everything should be ok.

Looks like you n t know that Toshiba offers different laptops in the different countries and each can series supports of different specification.
So maybe this A10-112 is not distributed in the United Kingdom, but in other countries. I don't know that other A10 with similar specs can be purchased in the United Kingdom.

Sorry I m not owner of the A10, but one of my friends bought this laptop and he asked me for the configuration.
So I know that it is a laptop really good for the market with new features

  • Tecra A10-112 views

    Hi all

I want to start by saying that I am an installer Toshiba phone systems. As this part of the corp, I am well impressed with their products and services. Nothing is big or inconvenient for them to process. As I was installing their systems I thought Id get a portable Tosh as well, it would do well for the customers and they have a good rep in the company...

So, I bought a Tosh Tecra A10 112. It arrived today and to be honest, it was not cheap. I had only read a study on this subject yesterday after I bought it and it has not been too positive. But I want to make my own choices. I took it out of the box and to be honest, I was not blown away by the generation or the feeling. He had looked old and not much astonishment. That said, that he is not been bought for looks. So after hours of travel on some programs and files that I have to say it works well. His young, I love the Tosh software and overall, I'm impressed.

The only part that really disappointed me was the screen. I thought it was a real brite and compared to my Toshiba laptop screen not expensive with a version of bright true terrible Tosh looks: (.) Nobody knows why they chose this screen? It seems that it is one of the few in the range of tosh that does not have this? If I like the thinking no, I am a little let down. Its only 2 things, but the look and the lcd screen... Anyone who has an opinion on this? Like I told her for installation systems and configuration of systems high definition CCTV is not to impress the ladies, but I would have a bit more for the price range of 1000 +...

    Eoghan
    Merger of networks

    Hello Eoghan

This laptop model is known to me and I want to just give some comments about it. Generally Tecra series belongs to the business notebook series. This series has also different Tecra products as a series, M-series or S-series. The difference is probably available Interfaces, RAM and HARD drive.

In my opinion the a series is the lowest in this group. What laptop a company must offer the user? She has to offer:

    -very good and stable construction
-flexibility in the use of different operating systems (Windows XP Home, Vista edition)
    -data protection
-accessories and options as the second battery with a higher capacity HARD drive and so on.

All that you ve to go with your Tecra. I understand what you mean with wow effect, but for commercial purposes the most important factor is reliability and not design. I think Toshiba A10 Design makes a notebook with classic look and it can be taken anywhere. For me, Toshiba has done very good job.

WOW effect is specific for Portege series and also for the portable multimedia Qosmio.

So I think that you have laptop bargains with a classic but attractive look.
TrueBrite display is very interesting point. I noticed Toshiba didn't offer this form for several different Tecras. To be honest it is unclear to me that any Tecra is offered with TrueBrite screen.

In the end, I wish you good luck and a lot of fun with your new toy. ;)

    Good bye

  • Tecra A10-112 - Windows Experience Index 3.4?

The WEI score is 3.4 with all default settings. The details are the following:

    Processor: 5.4
    Memory: 5.1
    Graphics (office performance): 3.4
    Games graphics: 3.6
    Hard drive: 5.2

I know that the integrated graphics card isn't help the score in any way. Toshiba A300D-15 b with AMD CPU 2.1 scores 4.8 which has a graphics card dedicated.

Do not play games, but the disappointing thing is that the performance of office are less than the score of the game.

Now the question is do I seriously take WEI or the integrated graphics (Intel GMA 4500MHD) is quite good for the time being and for Windows 7?

Please take into account the fact that A10 - 112 has a resolution of 1680 x 1050 and I think to the graphics card integrated is no match for this resolution in particular with Vista, what you think?

    Hello

To be honest I think nothing of it. The Windows experience index is ok, but in my opinion it s not really significant.

    But some values are interesting;
As much as I know graphics performance score Office represents s graphic performance of the system using the Windows Aero Desktop feature. As you've experienced the Aero needs a lot of graphical resources and in my opinion, this value is lower.

But generally the Mobile Intel GMA 4500MHD isn't bad.
Graphics memory (performance) can increase the upgrade of the main RAM.
Thus, for example Vista 32 bit OS:

    RAM 1 GB - dedicated video memory = 64 MB - system memory shared = 158MB - TOTAL graphic memory available = 286MB
    2 GB RAM - dedicated video memory = 128 MB - = 702MB - TOTAL graphic memory available = 830MB shared system memory
RAM 3 GB - dedicated video memory = 128 MB - = 1214 MB - TOTAL graphic memory available = 1342 MB shared system memory
4 GB RAM - dedicated video memory = 128 MB - = 1214 MB - TOTAL graphic memory available = 1342 MB shared system memory

    Vista 64-bit OS:
    RAM 1 GB - dedicated video memory = 64 MB - system memory shared = 158MB - TOTAL graphic memory available = 286MB
    2 GB RAM - dedicated video memory = 128 MB - = 702MB - TOTAL graphic memory available = 830MB shared system memory
RAM 3 GB - dedicated video memory = 128 MB - = 1214 MB - TOTAL graphic memory available = 1342 MB shared system memory
4 GB RAM - dedicated video memory = 128 MB - = 1631 MB - TOTAL graphic memory available = 1759 MB shared system memory

  • Tecra A10 - 112 - the lid seems to be loose

After the earlier disappointment with the keyboard, I turned on the computer to perform more tests.

When I open and close the cover the cover of the screen seems to be loose.
Do you have the same impression too? It certainly doesn't feel like any other laptop I've used in the past.

    Hi dude

Found your topic. and all I can tell you is that if you think that it is a hardware problem, then you should contact Toshiba service partner allowed in your country (as already suggested in another thread).

In my view, the screen should t be loose and therefore control of the laptop is recommended.

    Hello

Is it possible to reset the BIOS on a Tecra A10-112 password?

Of course, there's way, but this kind of info is top secret and certainly not to be posted on the public forum.
This is characteristic of very important security and cannot be discussed here.

Contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and they can remove for you.

  • Tecra A10 with Intel WiFi 5100 running Vista 32 bit fails to connect WiFi

    Hello

a whole new Tecra A10 with buildin Intel 5100 WiFi fails to connect to the Wlan router, using the pre-installled Vista Business 32-bit. Vista has always said: wrong password.

Yes, Wifi hardware is enabled, of course. And Tecra WiFi OK MAC is stored in the config of the router. Also the WiFi settings were correct (wpa2-psk aes), corresponding to the Wlan router. Password WPA2 is 13 characters. Connect all the other machines with a Wlan successfully turns a working Wlan configuration and use of the correct password.

I installed the latest driver on the Toshiba site - without success. I also installed the version of the driver from the Intel site will, too--without success. Doesn't matter what tool I used to connect, Vista itself, or the specific tool of Toshiba (Radar), choice to get an encrypted Wlan connection.

WPA2 and WPA or WEP can be used. I can't get a Wlan connection when encryption is totally * disabled *! Currently, I use a * clear * Wlan to use this Tecra A10 in the network. Real gross and no solution for more than a few days.

All other devices in the same network can connect the router Wlan with WPA2-PSK and WEP, no problem. Only the A10 / WiFi 5100 fails.

Searching the Web I found really many reports all issue of WiFi with a WiFi 5100 devices, so it seems to be a generic material or / and driver issue.

How can I correct this Wifi 5100 connect problem and use encryption WPA2-psk on Tecra A10 and WiFi 5100 with Vista? If this is not possible, I have to return this laptop and get another model with a working Wifi / Wlan Hardware.

    Thank you.
    -Thomas

    Hello Thomas

Have you tried to connect your laptop to another router by friends or elsewhere?
It is really strange that you can use any of the WIFI ciphers available.
Have you tried to reboot your router?

I have Satellite A300-1LI with the same card, WLAN, preinstalled with Toshiba recovery WXP image and I use it sometimes linked to the WLAN with WEP encryption.
Have you tried to contact Toshiba or your local dealer for advice?

  • Tecra A10 does'nt recognize 2nd HARD drive in the Bay of the STRANGE

    Hello

My TECRA A10 - 1 HG PTSB1E does'nt recognize my second HDD that has taken the place of the cd-rom.
I use a SATA caddy and the boot of the A10 with a CD-rom error!
is it not possible to use a shopping cart with a TECRA A10?
    Does anyone have a solution?

Thank you for your experience of return.
    Best regards

    Hello

I guess that the Tecra A10 does not support these updates.
The 2nd SATA controller does not seem to support the additional HDD instead of ODD.

But I've read a few things to get such2nd as recognized HARD drive.
You must start the laptop without the HARD drive caddy in ODD Bay.
After that the Windows system has started, you can plug/connect the HARD drive caddy and system PnP service should recognize the new device.

I think this isn't the best solution, but it seems like it s the only way to get this HDD caddy recognized in the Bay of the STRANGE

  • Tecra A10 - order of Installation of XP, other updates to Windows and JRE

    Hello

Sorry to post a new thread, but the old "[Tecra A10 - installation for XP order |]" http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=45611] "being closed and my question is about the same subject."

I got hold of a Tecra A10 PTSB0A-002001 so I would install XP SP3 top the order of installing additional drivers from Toshiba is very useful. Thanks Ivan25 for this information.

Toshiba has also include a Java Runtime Environment 2 package which I intend to replace it with a JSE 7. I would like to know in what order it should be installed?

In addition, after installing XP SP3 there are still hundreds of Windows updates to apply these updates to Windows must be installed directly after installation of XP SP3 or drivers Toshiba?

Thanks in advance for your help

    See you soon
    Eric

Java Runtime Environment 2 package can be installed after the installation of all the current drivers and substantial tools Java Runtime Environment isn t, if it to install other drivers and tools and so it s not very important when the package would be installed.

You must install all updates of Win XP after installing Toshiba drivers and utilities.
During the installation of the update, the laptop must be restarted several times and the whole process could take a while

However, from my point of few, Win XP isn't the best choice now since Microsoft only provides no support for this system now

  • Tecra A10 - 12Z BIOS 1.6 wanted to move to 3, but 'not supported' - W7H32

There are many problems with this Tecra A10.

As Windows Xp is disabled, I tried Windows 7, which is too awkward, so I wanted to try the eSATA operating systems. Although I could install Lubuntu on eSATA it would not start (no hard drive inside most) to eSATA, but booted from USB.

Read in the forum and put the Windows 7 Home 32 disk inside again and downloaded the BIOS update only to get a response "not supported".

The A10 has a Windows Vista professional sticker slot, is the only OS where this Tecra can get BIOS updated?

We have no records of Windows Vista.

Installation of Windows 2000 or XP, it's really a lot of time, even for 9 x.

The last beta demoCD with eComStation, todays OS/2Warp, works fine on the Tecra, it has Windows integrated 3.11, is that not? Windows 3.11 on a SD card installation must be as fast and as possible. If there are drivers available?

ReactOS (freeWindowsXP) is usually able to boot, but it is still in the alpha stage!

As for flat BACK? There are the LiveCD with BACK.

You can also find Vista LiveCD socalled VistaPE CDs on the net, but their origin is unknown.

What is the best option? Is there only one option?

    Hello

    > Although I could install Lubuntu on eSATA it would not start (no hard drive inside most) to eSATA, but booted from USB
I guess that the BIOS does not support booting eSATA port but just the USB port.
But it's just an idea... that should be checked once more in the BIOS settings.
Maybe a BIOS update would also help.

    > Read in the forum and put the Windows 7 Home 32 disk inside again and downloaded the BIOS update only to get a response "not supported".

BIOS update may be run from under Windows system only. But the BIOS update also requires some software additional Toshiba which depends on the system.

In the case of Windows 7 or Vista, the value of added Toshiba package must be installed. In the case of Win XP, you must install the package of common Modules.

To be honest I don t understand what you want to do
Tecra A10 is a great unit. I have the successor called Tecra A11. I use Win 7 and its really awesome OS. Much better than the beginning of Win XP

  • Tecra A10 - left key of the mouse on the touchpad is "locked".

    Dear forum
Left click Mouse touchpad is a little distorted. I had a peek inside the palmrest, and there is a white plastic stand thing that broke. It seems to happen this way with a large number of these particular models. Please do you know is there a repair or the thing below available to replace the broken white plastic and if necessary

    How much does it cost?
All the other tecra a10 users have the same problem with this model.
    Ian

You should get in contact with the provider of service authorized in your country in order to fix hardware problems.
Broken parts must be replaced. Result s and in the case where the guarantee is valid, should be set the laptop for free. Otherwise, you will need to pay for the repair of laptop

    Dear forum
    The above says everything really.

I see the two look identical, but one is smaller. These two models are different in other ways please.
    Ian

Of course, the two laptops are different.
There are different models Tecra A10 and there are different units Tecra M10.

    For example:
    Tecra * A10-13 b * supports Intel GM45 chipset and an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26 GHz CPU.

    Tecra * A10 - 1 2 * supports an Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 2.80 Ghz CPU Intel GM45 chipset

    Hello

You won't find that everything disassemble manuals on the pages of Toshiba.
You can find manuals the user only for models of simple laptops that are provided for ordinary users.

I guess you will need to search on the internet for some details how to disassemble the Tecra A10.
Use google and search + Tecra A10 irisvista +.
Then you should get a few hits on Tecra A10 disassembly
