  • Programs not listed in "programs and features".

Sir, I have a dell laptop inspiron 1545... all of a sudden the programs that I installed on my win 7 32 bits do not appear in the "Programs and features" window... only 3-4 programs are visible... but infact I installed 5 GB of various programs... What is the problem Sir? pls know me... This happened after I ran the Dell Support Center which was digitization of the material at that time here.

    Hello

    • Are what program you referring?
    • What have been the recent changes until the problem occurred?

This can also occur if the installation files are broken or missing for the program which may be reason for the program does not appear in uninstall a program from the list.

I suggest that you run the program to install the program again and check if you get an option to uninstall the program and try to uninstall the program.
If it still does not uninstall the program, and then try to reinstall the program and uninstall afterwards.

    Hi Mr. Minister,

Your question is still there while in Safe Mode? If so, you try to run a SFC scan for troubleshooting the corrupted system files on your PC.

To perform a scan of the SFC, follow the steps on the following link: How to use the tool File Checker system to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or Windows 7

Your computer may also be infected and needs to be cleaned in order to work properly. I suggest that you try the steps listed in the related post below with your question:

    http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/InternetExplorer/thread/f26f7291-d646-4870-864e-a31976df0011

You can also try a clean boot troubleshooting method to see if it helps you solve your problem.

    I hope this helps.
  • Not all installed programs appear in "programs and features".

A few days ago, I installed GTA IV with all components like Rockstar Social Club, Games for Windows and things related as update for .net 3.5 SP1 and so on. Since then, whenever I open the "programs and features" dialog box (I dunno if it's the correct name because I use a German, Vista Ultimate SP1...) the dialog box shows some of the installed programs and the scanning process remains active all the time. In the Task Manager, the explorer.exe shows a 99% CPU usage, and that's all. Even after a few hours, it's the same thing. Is this a known issue? Y at - it advice or ideas (other then reinstall Vista ;)?

    Marcus

    Hello again Marcus!

I was wondering a few things...

You never said if your system meets the minimum requirements for installation of GTA IV...

    Namely:

    • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 Ghz, AMD Athlon X 2 64 2.4 Ghz
    • Memory: 1.5 GB
    • Space free hard drive: 16 GB
    • Video card: 256 MB NVidia 7900 / 256 MB ATI X 1900
    • DirectX 9-compatible stereo sound card
    • Keyboard
    • Mouse

If your system does not meet the minimum requirements, alone could cause 99% CPU usage and problems to run the game.

In addition, I never asked before, but I wanted to know if you were trying to uninstall GTA IV when you are looking for in "programs and features"?

If you're still having problems, I suggest to uninstall GTA. If you don't see it in programs and features, you can download the following Microsoft utility and use it to uninstall GTA.

    Windows Install CleanUp Utility: http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/290301

This will have to be run in XP compatibility mode in Vista

To run a program in compatibility mode:

    1. Right click on the shortcut for the item.
    2. Click on Properties
    3. Click on the compatibility tab.
    4. Check the run this program in compatibility mode for , and then select the version of Windows, the program has been designed for the list. If you don't know what the program is designed for, try Windows XP (Service Pack 2).
    5. Click OK

After uninstalling GTA, see if you have the same problems of use of CPU...

All the built-in programs that are part of the Vista operating system will NOT be displayed in programs and features. To simplify the reason, Windows Media Player 11 is part of the operating system and cannot be uninstalled. So there is not need to be listed in programs and features, whose main goal is to uninstall or repair any installed programs. Another example is Windows Defender.

    For your information:

In Windows 7, Windows Media Player 12 is also part of the operating system and it cannot be uninstalled and it will not reveal in programs and features either.

And Yes, all programs can be accessible and visible directory C: windows. I restarted my laptop but it does not help. Please help me solve this problem. Thank you

    Hi Ayesha,

Thank you for the update on the issue.

If the problem persists in this case, you can check the question in the new user profile and see if problem persists or not. Try to create the new profile of the user as administrator and check the status of your question in the new user profile.

If you create the new user account, nothing will be lost, is that the thing that it would be in the other account that you are currently using. However create new user account is a diagnostic stage, if everything works well in the new user account, we can easily move the files and programs for the new user account.

So, for now please try to create the new user account as an administrator from the link provided below. Make sure that you follow the steps mentioned under create a Local account and get back to us with the State, we will be happy to help you.

  • Programs and features: frequency of use of program

I remember in Windows XP, the programs and features Control Panel had a feature that let the user know how many times a program has been used ("seldom", "occasionally" or "frequently") in order to help the user to decide which programs to remove. However, it does not appear to be such a feature in the programs and features Control Panel in Windows 7. Is this true? And if not, how to validate such a device?

No, it was deleted because it was inadequate.  A few details about how it calculates information used last is here: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/oldnewthing/archive/2004/07/09/178342.aspx

This little special (last used) was more difficult to determine reliably.

    Help, please...

This could be due to the setting that you have for navigation in the files/folders in Windows Explorer and probably at some point in the past, you have chosen the option "in the future, do not show me this dialog box.
