Want Windows 10, but afraid to 8.1

I have not yet upgraded to win 8 to 8.1 for several reasons, the #1 being the horror stories I've read about 8.1 completely spoil popular machines and then they can't go back to 8. My 8 win is preinstalled on my computer, so I'm not eager to lose eventually and have a computer does not entirely in a bad upgrade, as I read happened to some people. I do not know how to save my pre-installed version 8 so I don't lose.

I thought MS said that for those who had problems with 8.1 and had to downgrade, they still might not win 10, but now all I see is that if you don't have a 8.1, you get 10.

I work online, and I can't really afford for my computer to be down for days because my 8.1 update went over the side. For those of you who are familiar enough with this upgrade, can you make me feel better about it? Is there somewhere in-depth guidance on how I have to prepare my machine to 8.1?

Thanks for any help/encouragement you can give me.

Hello

We would like to believe that all the information posted on Windows 8.1 is true, but in many cases, it is not.

My pc is a Windows 8.  I upgraded to 8.1 Windows when it was offered.  If I reset the pc it would go back to Windows 8.  I then update Windows 8.1.

Go to search > type Recovery

You should see the option to create a recovery media.  I suggest that you create the necessary disksshould they needed to recover Windows 8.  If you do not want to create the media yourself, contact the division of Service customer of the manufacturer of your computer and order the disks at minimal cost.  (approximately $20 USD)

I had no problem to update the unit and did the reset for testing purposes.

The pc now uses the Windows 10 10159 preview build.  I find the browser Windows 10 to be indigestible.  By that, I mean once that he "carriages upward" with constant use, it becomes easier.  E-mail at & T; constant refreshes, but I see the same behavior with Outlook.com on Windows 8.1.

Perform a PC Refresh before upgrade you to Windows 8.1

Uninstall the antivirus software that comes pre-installed on the system (Norton, McAfee, etc.) using these free removal tools

http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/protect/wiki/MSE-protect_start/list-of-anti-malware-product-removal-tools/2bcb53f7-7ab4-4EF9-ab3a-6aebfa322f75

Press the Windows key + R to open the run

Type WSreset.exe

Press Ok

Run Windows Update > will check for the updates and install all important and optional updates

Then you should see Windows store open revealing Windows update 8.1

Download/install the update

Jump before Windows 10:

Before update you to 10 Windows, use the compatibility option by clicking the Windows flag in the bottom right of the taskbar

Click on the three lines on the top left

Click on the control of your PC

Method 2.

You can temporarily disable the security software and check if this helps the update install.

I have tried to avoid the update of Windows 10 and was doing a good job, until one day I came back to my computer to find the middle of the update of Windows 10. I panicked, somehow managed to cancel and thought that I had won it.

Fast forward a week or two and my computer tells me to restart after the update. It's somewhat normal, I usually told to wait and he does. Not this time. He returns five minutes later telling me that it will restart in 14 minutes if I want to or not. I can't avoid it. It restarts. I have to go to work. I just find that it is just rebooted again later. I have to go back, I hear from my mother that she has restarted several times while I was away. I came home and closing it down properly and went to bed.

Today, it's the same thing, it force restarts every 20 minutes. I look for things on the internet and eventually check the updates. There are tons of failed attempts at upgrading to Windows 10 (which, remember, I never authorized to do so). I have 10 minutes before it goes to the next round. I'm next to me. I know not enough about computers to speak with her directly and make the troubleshooting thing I found on the internet that involves the registry and to be honest, I don't REALLY want to not Windows 10, so I don't want any solution that leaves as the result.

What can I do? It's time for me to just suck it up and buy a Mac? I am upset to forced into what I am quite certain I will never buy another Microsoft product again (and this is after growing up on Microsoft and he preferring Apple). I feel so betrayed and powerless. I don't want it to end on a bad note Aussie. Is there something I can do?

    Hello

You cannot install Defender in Vista; It is already part of the Vista operating system.

    Read about Defender:

If you use Norton, AVG, Avira, Microsoft Security Essentials, McAfee, etc. the default action is for Windows Defender must be disabled, that these AntiVirus programs have their own Antispyware Applications.

    There is nothing to worry.

Using both programs at the same time can cause system conflicts, etc.

If you are using one of the above AntiVirus programs, this Information from David O - Support Engineer shows you how to manually enable Windows Defender (disregard information from uninstalling; not possible in Vista):

My PC running the 32-bit version or 64-bit Windows?

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/find-out-32-or-64-bit

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-7

Windows 7 64 bit comes in handy when you need to deal with at least 4 GB of RAM or more. Windows 7 32 bit can use up to 3.2 GB of RAM. Because the address space of memory is much larger for 64-bit Windows, this means that you need two times more memory than the 32-bit Windows to accomplish some of the same task, but you are able to do much more, you can have more apps open, do things like run a virus scan in the background it will affect the performance of your system. 64-bit Windows 7 is safer too, malicious code cannot easily infiltrate it, drivers are more reliable because they must be signed before it can work with 64 bit Windows 7.

Regarding compatibility, you need device drivers 64-bit hardware devices, you may have. In addition, there is no 16-bit subsystem in Windows 7 64-bit, which means, your applications must be 32-bit only, not 16-bit Installer or programs uninstaller.

    The upgrade of Windows Vista

When important changes to your computer, for example an upgrade, it is always recommended that you back up your system before installing a new version of Windows. In your case, you can upgrade to Windows 7 depending on the edition and the architecture of Windows Vista, you have installed. If you are running a 32-bit version of Vista and upgrade to a 64-bit (Windows 7 edition) version, you'll have a pure make install, it is the opposite case.

If you are using Windows Vista Home Basic or Premium consumer editions, you can only upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate. In addition, you can make downgrades, which means, if you are running Windows Vista Ultimate Edition now, you cannot downgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium. You perform logical upgrades:

Windows Vista Home Basic > Windows 7 Home Basic, Premium or Ultimate

Windows Vista Edition Home Premium > Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate

Windows Vista Business > Windows 7 Professional, enterprise or ultimate edition

Windows Vista Business > Windows 7 Enterprise

Windows Vista Ultimate > Windows 7 Ultimate.

    The upgrade to Windows XP?

Please read these instructions carefully and completely before you begin installing Windows 7: there are important steps that you must follow to upgrade your PC from Windows XP to Windows 7 in order to preserve your files and settings.

Before you begin, you'll need to backup all your data to an external storage device, and you will need all the installation discs for the programs that you want to keep. Please make sure that you have an external hard drive (see details below).

More detailed instructions are available at windows.microsoft.com/upgrade-windows-xp. Here are the basic steps.

    1. start Windows Upgrade Advisor (windows.microsoft.com/upgradeadvisor) to see if there are known issues that may affect the installation and the question of whether you should install the version of 32 or 64 bit Windows 7.

2 back up your files and settings on an external hard drive using Windows Easy Transfer (windows.microsoft.com/windows-easy-transfer). If you do not have an external hard drive, you will not be able to use Windows Easy Transfer. Alternatively, you can copy the files you want to keep on a USB stick, CD or DVD.

    3. you will need to manually reinstall your programs, such as Microsoft Office, after I installed Windows 7. Gather the installation for your programs and all partner/license product key discs. You may be able to download programs from the Internet. For example, Windows Live Messenger can be installed from the download.live.com/messenger.

    4. Insert the Windows 7 DVD in your PC. When asked "which type of installation you want. Click on "Custom (advanced)."

    5. when Windows 7 is installed, use Windows Easy Transfer to restore your files and settings.

If you are not comfortable Windows 7 installation, check with a local retail or the services of the PC company store to see if they offer upgrade services.
