Weird! U350 + Win7 - shows less (2.84 GB) of memory can be used with 4 GB with 3 GB?

Hello

I have an Ideapad U350, which came with Windows 7 32-bit and 3 GB of memory.

Just wanted to extend the RAM so I installed a new 2 GB instead of 1 GB of RAM. Previously, Windows 7 displays "3 installed and 2.87 GB usable" but now it shows "4 GB installed and 2.84 GB usable".

Now, I know that Windows 7 32 bit usually won't show anything under 4 GB if 4 GB is installed, but I was really surprised to see that when I got the 2x2gb memory installed, Windows 7 has shown 2.84 GB!

In other words, Windows 7 32-bit shows less memory can be used when the memory of 4 GB (2x2gb) is installed, only when the / 3GB (2 GB + 1 GB) memory is installed...

I'm a little puzzled about this. Just to be clear, as I said above, I * KNOW * that with Win7 32 bit, it does not show all of the 4 GB, but I expected something like 3 + can be used with the 4 GB GB, not<>

Can is anyone here explain why this is happening?

Thank you

Dragos
