Western Digital hard drive

I have a Western Digital hard drive. 500 GB capacity. The other day I went to plug it in, and my computer said I had to format the drive in order to to use. I would like to know if there is a way to get access to the content on my drive without formatting, and therefore lose all my data. Maybe there is some software that I can get to fix this problem.

Hello

1. what version of windows are you using?
2 have you tried to connect the hard drive to another computer?

Test the Hard drive on another computer, if it works, try to save the data and then format the hard disk.

Try to do a Chkdsk Scan. The scan will look bad system files and will attempt to fix them, if possible.

(a) click the Start button.
(b) type cmd in search results.
(c) click the cmd file and select "Run as Administrator".
(d) in the CMD window, type chkdsk /f /r and press the Enter key.

Note: Chkdsk /f /r enables chkdsk check the volume for errors bad sectors on the physical disk and file system. Chkdsk /f /r schedules itself to run at the next system reboot, by adding an entry in the BootExecute value.

If the above steps fail, you may need to contact the manufacturer for assistance:

I need to replace the internal hard disk for this old model of PC.  It came with a hard drive from 750 GB 7200 RPM SATA 3 Gb/s (Seagate).  What drive Western Digital hard (750 GB or 1 TB) is compatible with this computer?

The limitation of SATA is more like a heading of speed that allows the bus. (6 Gb/s) SATAIII allows real world speeds of up to 600 MB/s while SATAII (3 Gbps) allows speeds of up to Bot 300 Mbps connections. allowing speeds of over the current maximum capacity of any mechanical hard drive. Best performing discs can go up to 200 MB/s, so it wouldn't really matter if you use SATAII or SATAIII. You should be fine using either for the WD Black and you shouldn't see any difference in transfer speeds.

I connected an external hard drive Western Digital, and I do not see that it is recognized in all USB ports.  I checked Device Manager and nothing shows here either.

Western Digital website says this is a result of a damaged or outdated driver, but I could not find the driver.

How to find the right driver to properly discover the hard drive.

An old XP machine should recognize the drive, it doesn't require specific drivers. Be sure that you're using a good cable. Early symptom of a defective cable include inrmitent detenction of the reader. Or the hard drive is faulty, try to open the case and look for loose connections.

  • My imac does not recognize my new western digital hard drive internal that I just installed.

I created a bootable usb key with yosemite on this and I am trying to format the new HDD, but all options are grey and doesn't let me do anything. It is also said he has 0 KB and the hard drive is 2 TB. Ran a few commands on the terminal, I found online, and it said me that I have a usb key where I yosemite. Any ideas?

Using disk utility you need to divide the hard drive by using the GUID partition scheme, and then Mac OS Extended journaled. If the disc is not recognized at all, you've probably done something wrong, have a bad SATA cable or a new defective hard disk.

  • Western digital external drive not recognized in windows 7

    Hello

I bought a new external hard drive (elements Western digital 1 TB) and my laptop is also new (windows 7).

When I connect my external hard drive, its getting detected in the bottom right of the machine by displaying a small icon. considering that, the external hard drive is not displayed in my computer.

In disk management, his appears as Disk1, on right click on it, getting only "convert the dynamic disk' and 'Properties' are enabled.

In disk management, in the list of volumes, 5 empty volumes are also there. Right click on these only "Delete Volume" is enabled. "Change drive letter and paths" is disabled.

Please help me solve this problem.

    Thank you.

    Yo!

A bit of a ball in the twilight. I'm wondering is someone else had this unit, tried to change the way it has been implemented and "messed up." I would take this one back and get another - especially if you got it in one of the "big box" stores If you're inclined to try to fix it, be aware that this may affect your ability ot return it for Exchange or credit. Depends the seller policies.

Right mouse click have the drive in the list to see the options. If they are correctly set, it may be possible to simply assign a drive letter to each volume of 'empty' If this configuration is OK with you.

Otherwise, the fix would involve will use the facilities of disc to remove the present volumes, and then creating one or more. Make sure that you choose to format the logical disks as and assign it a drive letter. See the Windows Help system.

  • HP Pavilion ho23-056 23, touch: copy full hard on an external hard drive as a return to the top

I am currently running windows 8.1 x 64 bit, and I think the copy of my entire hard drive (consisting of readers of C & D using a total of 929.2 GB of space.  And wanting to get an external Western Digital hard drive with 1.5 TB of space.  I was led to believe that windows 8.1 has a utility called Image Back Up utility (located in the control panel).  I have also led to believe that this can be done completely by using a little bit of whole hard disk copy (programs, files, drivers, applications, utilities, etc.), but I can't well enough information on this operation. And there are still questions, like how can you transfer a copy to an external hard drive on the PC if it should crash completely? (I do have a set of five drive recovery that I did when I bought my PC, but still want an additional source of a backup system.)  I can not find the procedures for copying the copy from the disk external hard on the PC crashed and are best and safest ther programs out there to use instead of windows system Image backup utility?  I would like to add that I am a bit of an intermediate user, using a PC since windows 95. but there are obviously issues that I need to research before trying something that complicated and advanced.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

A description of the System Image backup can be found here.  If you want to C and D, I suggest a clone program. Seagate and WD have a wizard disk free program. With the cloning process, you use an external enclosure to the clone.  When disaster strikes, swap you the drives and continue. Personally, I make clones of my primary office every 30 to 45 days.

  • Satellite L300-144 - how to replace the HARD drive?

    Hello!

I have a problem: my laptop is Satellite L300-144, but I don't even know my hard drive model.

Anyone know anything on this subject? And how replcae it? I mean where the hard drive is placed?
And another question: is it available in BestBuy for example?

    THX

    Hello

As Akuma said on the underside of the laptop, you will find a HARD drive cover is fixed by 2 screws I think. If you remove these screws, you can see the HARD drive and remove/Exchange it.

Satellite L300 supports SATA 2.5 hard drives, and you can buy the HARD drive of every computer store where you want to.
I have good experiences with Seagate and Western Digital hard drives but of course, you can buy a disk from a different manufacture. ;)

  • Re: Tecra A9 - 11M - replace the HARD drive with a larger

I have a Tecra A9 - 11 M with Windows XP Professional installed. I would like to replace the hard drive with a larger drive and install Windows 7 Professional.

Any suggestions on recommended records say 500 MB?

Difficulties to install Windows 7 on this model?

    Hey,.

    > Any suggestions on recommended records say 500 MB?
I assume you mean 500 GB and not 500MB, right? ;)

Well, the Tecra A9 already supports SATA interface and there is no limit of capacity on SATA interface, so you can install a 500 GB HARD drive or more (750 GB, etc.). Just make sure that it s 2.5 SATA HDD.

You can choose each brand of HARD drive because each model will not work. You can buy a Toshiba HDD, Western Digital HARD drive or another. No problem ;)

    You are welcome.

I need to apologize.  I went to the Samsung website, only to find that they no longer have more HDD 1 TB.  Therefore, I had to find another brand that has been at a reasonable price.  Normally, I buy WD HDD and Samsung SSD.  This is a Western Digital HARD drive , which should be good.  Also, here's the installation guide which includes a FREE copy of the Software from Acronis True Image WD Addition.  I is one of the better programs cloning.  My combined search of better performance and reliability with the right price.  The one in the link, this is what I found.

The procedure I described in my last post should work with Acronis.

  • Satellite A200-1QK - need new HARD drive for upgrade

I was planning on upgrading my A200-1QK (320 GB of HARD drive).

I was looking for a HARD drive with more space and possibly with more speed, I work with the composition and recording of the audio mixing software and libraries tend to consume a lot of space (I know that an Office would be the best option and I have one, but sometimes I need a more portable solution). I even thought connecting the BONES a SATAII external 1 TB HARD drive but I don't know if it's possible.

Well, but the question here is:
What are the technical proprieties that I should look for in a HARD drive so it works on my laptop?
Y at - it no avaible 7200 RPM for laptops? I'm looking for some 500 GB or larger.

    Thanks in advance =)

    Hello

Theoretically, you can buy a HARD drive with 7200 RPM, but it produces more heat and need a little more power as a 5400 RPM model. So it of your choice what you buy. ;)
You can buy each portable 2.5 HARD drive with SATA or SATA2 connector. If you are looking for a small tray on online shops, you should find enough hard drives of 500 GB at 7200 RPM.

I have good experiences with Hitachi and Western Digital hard drives.

  • failure of hard disk drive necessary to reinstall WinXP Home on replacement HARD drive

I have an of Western Digital HARD drive with my system of operating XP Home 32-bit installed on my primary C: drive.

I have run the Diagnostics tool online to WD for the reader who found intractable errors on the disc, which indicates an imminent drive failure and an email their technical support confirms the disk needs to be replaced SOON before she completely fails.

I copied all personal off the drive failed on another drive good files and am now ready to remove the failed drive and install a new replacement main primary HDD and then reinstall my XP Home on it - so - until I started to do this thinking, I would ask for tips in anticipation of a smooth, re - install on the new drive.

I got a 25 character key and proof of 8-character license key. There is a Microsoft sticker on the back of the pc (that I do not see to read right now, but its there).

So, I remove the old drive and fit the replacement drive and this format and then install my XP Home - can we see a particular problem with activation?

    concerning

Depending on whether you have a recovery CD suitable for activation key for your sticker or not, there are three possible courses of action. Each activation of the path should not be a problem unless this procedure has been done several times or your 25-character key fell into the wrong hands.

If you have a recovery CD

Make the re-installation, follow the control points in my first post in this thread...

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/windows_xp-windows_update/why-is-SP3-trying-to-destroy-my-system/0facddce-3aff-4DC4-a69c-c860474d24f2?page=1

.. .so how to get XP to date.

If your recovery media is a service pack before SP3, there is more information on how to get to SP3 in my first post in this thread...

If you do not have a recovery CD

I hope that your original drive will have a recovery partition or the means to create a recovery CD. If you can create recovery media do now. In the contrary case and the original disc has a recovery partition make a clone of the original hard disk sector by sector to your new car now. If the clone is successful, i.e., that there are no unreadable sectors, is perhaps the best way to proceed in any case, especially if your PC is in good health other than the imminent failure of your HARD drive. If the clone does not work out, you can always fall back on the new installation. The advantage of a clone is that there is no re-setup software to (updates Windows or Office to give just two examples) and didn't need to be restored. I paid for the partitioning/cloning software and have no experience of all freebies out there to make recommendations, perhaps 10crackers can help with this.

If you have managed to create a recovery media, you can use it instead of cloning.

If you clone successfully you can just use it as is, or use the built-in recovery partition that you just cloned to do a clean install.

If you don't have a recovery media and cannot create an and is unable to successfully clone

You will have to contact the manufacturer of your PC to see if they can provide recovery media.
