What antivirus software you choose?

I used to have McAfee.  I found that it is too big for my computer.  I have limited memory and an older machine.  I replaced by the defender and noted some problems briefly as when MS Security Essentials is out, I moved to that (I shouldn't have left all the charges, right?).  I find that when I connect, Essentials is a very slow installation, even to the point the Security Center will give a non-protected view.  If I leave it alone for 5 minutes, Essentials will finally start himself.  As defender, some malware will slip through and I have to run another anti-malware to catch and remove it.  I love that these software MS options are free and do not seem to need much of the computer to run.  Despite the slow loading, I think it's ok so far.  I'm not a catch all, I have several other manual anti-malware programs, give me a good arsenal.

But I'm looking for advice on self-protection, I've heard of several other free versions like Avast and AVG and K...,... and I'm curious.  How do they stack up?  What is the best. Better than Defender, or Avast Essentials?  What about the others?  Can everyone give you a kind of report of the consumer of the software, particularly free software out there?  Even if it's not free, I would like to hear it.

X since the announcement, I have read a lot of the other reviews.  I want to see if there is out there that might want to give a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,... side, but I like Dr. Strangelove's response:

Better is a relative term.  No product on the market today don't protect you from everything.
The answer you will get here is that you must use Security Essentials.
Security Essentials has received a rating of "advanced +":
http://www.AV-Comparatives.org/images/stories/test/ondret/avc_report24.PDF
My opinion is this: with an OS fully updated, Security Essentials, Windows Firewall on and IE8 SmartScreen filter on, you will have a well protected platform.
But the MDC also said that one drawback to the use of Essentials in XP is that Defender could be uninstalled.  I wonder if he could say why there is a drawback and how it rates two?

Come a way since I posted this.  Your article is good, as is the other.  I'm a believer that to eradicate the malware, a program may not be 100% clean. view.  I have used several different anti-virus software on manual mode and do not keep their loading.  Believe in a file temporary dumping; something should be devoted to what are do not want to give more 'smart' time to morph.  Car: MSSE and back it up with Malicious Software Removal Tool, and if ever a drop, run security scanner.  Free, MSSE is unbeatable.  Thank you.

  • What Antivirus/Antimalware/Antispyware choose?

    Hi all

Recently, a pop-up Mac guard or something like that appears when loading on a streaming site. So, I wanted to know if I had to install an antivirus/antispyware/antimalware pack to carry out an analysis on both my Macbook and my safe use? And who?

  • Need to find the right Antivirus software

    Hi team,

I have a confusion on what Antivirus software to decide as there seems to be many providers of AV on the Internet. My basic use of the pc would be mainly multimedia (movies and games) and navigation. It is why would you suggest me a VA that is also inexpensive and effective in action. In addition, I had set to zero on Norton and Avast. History says that Norton consumes a lot of system resources that makes the slow system performance. Please specify on the same.

    Hello

Here's what I use and recommend: (these are all free and very effective versions.)

Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with all I have
launched on them. Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx have also proven to be very
reliable and compatible. Use MSE or Avast and Prevx, Prevx 3 but not all.

Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except leaving Standard, Web, and
    Operation of the network.

    Prevx - Home - free

    Windows Firewall

Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)

    Protected IE - mode

IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)

I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(It may temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom
    right of IE)

Two versions of Avast are available 5.x and 4.8 x

Avast - home - free - 5.x stop shields you do not use (except files, Web, network, &)
Shields of behavior) - double click on the icon in the Notification area - real time Orange - click on the
Shield that you want to stop - STOP. To stop the Orange icon to show an error indicator-
Click on the Orange icon - top right - settings - click on the status bar - uncheck shields you
    disabled - click OK

Avast 4.8 x - home - free - stop shields, you don't need except leaving Standard, Web,.
and the network running. (Double-click the blue icon - look OK. - upper left - Shields details
    Finish those you don't use).

Or use Microsoft Security Essentials - free
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast

Prevx - home - free small, fast, exceptional protection CLOUD, working with other security
programs. It is a single scanner, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something come back here
or use Google to see how to remove.

    PCmag - Prevx - Editor's choice

Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever think malware and that
would be unusual with Avast and occasional Prevx running with the exception of a low level cookie
(not much), to UPDATE and then run it as a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they
never find anything of note that I started to use this configuration.

For an anti-virus program, I recommend eSet NOD32, if you're ready
to pay for it. If you want a free anti-virus, I recommend one (are not
run several) of the following three:

    Avira AntiVir
    Avast
    Microsoft Security Essentials

You also need anti-spyware software. I recommend that you download and
    install MalwareBytes AntiMalware (freeware).

  • Sometimes, like now, my antivirus software fails to start when I turn on my computer. What should I do?

Windows security alerts. The small red sign in the lower right corner of my monitor tells me that my computer is not protected against viruses. The only way to make it work again is to restart my computer, but this time even that did not work. Windows Security Center does not help because he advises me just to get an anti virus that works, which is what I thought I had.

    Hi JohnMadner,

    ·         What security software do you use?

    ·         What is the exact error message?

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

  • No longer connect to the internet after you uninstall antivirus software

    Hello

Please forgive me if there is a simple solution to this problem. I have already undertaken some research and various attempts to correct them accordingly in vain.

    System: Windows 7 64-bit

Problem - no more have the internet connection after you uninstall antivirus software

the story so far: yesterday I uninstalled VIPRE Internet Security 2014 as suggested on their guys to support online so I could upgrade to the latest version (2015).

After uninstalling and restarting, small notification of connection there was an error in this regard. When you look at the map, it linked the wireless modem, but there was a red cross between it and the symbol of the world of the internet.

I tried another public network and tried to use my phone as a hotspot and still the same result.

    System Restore does not work.

    I defragged and cleaned up.

I downloaded a program called Vipre rescue to find the virus.

I tried with windows on and outside firewall.

I installed a full copy of 2015 AVG (free) and still no luck.

I tried a flush.bat file (easily on another where I read that someone had the same problem).

Any help would be most welcome!

Thanks for getting back to me.

I dropped last week and held a store of the local computer. I just returned it today. Guys said they had 'fun' with her. Which means it took a lot of time for them to trouble. Apparently there had been some severe or ciritcal crashes who think could have been partly to blame.

  • What material you choose for a new server

    Hello everyone.

I intend to set up a new server at home, mainly for use with ESXi 4, but perhaps also use it (with a different, without the use of ESXi HARD disk) as video occasional treatment / game machine.

My main concern at the moment is the part of the equation ESXi. The plan is to have no more than 10 virtual machines running simultaneously (a mixture of servers windows and linux workstations, windows) for development and testing. I'm not under a Bank, so it is not crucial for the system until 24 x 7, but I need a fast and reliable system to work with (as inexpensive as possible though). I searched around for the material, but I must say that I am a bit confused. I am open to proposals from scratch, but here's what I've found so far and the questions I have.

    1. a single i5 or i7 processor will be enough? How many virtual machines an i7 CPU can manage without the feeling that you are using a 1st generation Pentium? I don't know of virtual machines running large databases and development tools (Visual Studio mainly). It would be best to use a double connector MB Xeon or it's too? My choice would be something between i7 - 930 and dual Xeon 5520 or 5620. Also, I would be able to cover future needs (i.e. it would be nice to not throw the entire system 5 years from now, for having been too slow).

    2. I think using a dedicated raid controller (specifically Adaptec RAID 5805) but with SATA disks (4x1TB in RAID50) or maybe 6x1TB in RAID60. It would be a good solution (in speed)? Should I start looking for solutions SAS?

As you can imagine, the cost of all these components is a little high then if I have to make this move, I want to be as sure as possible that I have I don't get too small for my needs, but also that I have I don't get too. As I said before, I'm open to any suggestion.

Thanks for any comment on this case.

Relative to the CPU, it depends on your loads of comments.  But with SATA RAID, the bottleneck is much more likely to be there IMO.

FWIW, two quad-core Nehalem servers are sometimes "nominal" to 30 virtual machines, but without knowing the charge is pure speculation.

If you are looking to deploy 1 vCPU customer, a unique quad will most likely very well.  Using vSMP translates into more physical cores (or at least hyperthreading) being necessary to avoid CPU scheduling delays.

Re disc - Yes each LUN has a maximum size of (2 TB - 512 bytes).  You can create a very large data warehouses using extensions (or simply use several data warehouses), but the underlying storage MUST be able to present the LUN meets the criteria of 2 TB.  While most of the RAID controllers will provide more than one set of RAID-5 LUN, a lot will not be permitted RAID-10 to split, where my comment.  Of course, you should check the documentation for any controller you choose on this point, but it's something to know.

  • How can I avoid firefox reset my browser preferences when my antivirus software scans my computer

Starting on 19/02/2013 every time that my antivirus software scans my computer (per day), various Firefox browser preferences are being reset. (It seems that Firefox can be reset to the default value.) My home page is reset to mozilla etc...

I have reset Firefox, un-installed and re-installed Firefox to no avail.
Each time the computer is scanned my browser preferences are lost.

    The following information system:
    Windows 7 pro 64-bit
    AVG antivirus 2013 current build.

    Firefox v19.

I don't remember anyone to another report that AVG has done this. In fact, it would be useful to know exactly what did AVG. Your home page is stored in a file named prefs.js in your personal settings Firefox (your Firefox profile folder). It deletes this file? Replacement of a 'clean' copy it right? He characterizes the read-only file so that your changes are not saved between sessions?

Could you make a backup copy of your profile folder if you have around comparison after running the analysis? You will need to store on a USB key and it is not be analyzed, too.

To access this folder, you can use

Help > troubleshooting information > "view file" button.

Navigate from one level to Ctrl + drag the folder to the destination of the copy.
