What Antivirus/Antimalware/Antispyware choose?

Hi all

Recently, a pop-up Mac guard or something like that appears when loading on a streaming site. It was not possible to close the window without clicking 'OK', which allows the software to do a scan on my Mac. Normally, I think that nothing had been installed on my Macbook but I can't be sure of himself... So, I wanted to know if I had to install an antivirus/antispyware/antimalware pack to carry out an analysis on both my Macbook and my safe use? And who?

Have a good evening,

Thank you

François

It's a scam. Nothing has been downloaded or installed on your Mac.

  • What antivirus software you choose?

I used to have McAfee.  I found that it is too big for my computer.  I have limited memory and an older machine.  I replaced by the defender and noted some problems briefly as when MS Security Essentials is out, I moved to that (I shouldn't have left all the charges, right?).  I find that when I connect, Essentials is a very slow installation, even to the point the Security Center will give a non-protected view.  If I leave it alone for 5 minutes, Essentials will finally start himself.  As defender, some malware will slip through and I have to run another anti-malware to catch and remove it.  I love that these software MS options are free and do not seem to need much of the computer to run.  Despite the slow loading, I think it's ok so far.  I'm not a catch all, I have several other manual anti-malware programs, give me a good arsenal.

But I'm looking for advice on self-protection, I've heard of several other free versions like Avast and AVG and K...,... and I'm curious.  How do they stack up?  What is the best. Better than Defender, or Avast Essentials?  What about the others?  Can everyone give you a kind of report of the consumer of the software, particularly free software out there?  Even if it's not free, I would like to hear it.

X since the announcement, I have read a lot of the other reviews.  I want to see if there is out there that might want to give a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,... side, but I like Dr. Strangelove's response:

Better is a relative term.  No product on the market today don't protect you from everything.
The answer you will get here is that you must use Security Essentials.
Security Essentials has received a rating of "advanced +":
    http://www.AV-Comparatives.org/images/stories/test/ondret/avc_report24.PDF
My opinion is this: with an OS fully updated, Security Essentials, Windows Firewall on and IE8 SmartScreen filter on, you will have a well protected platform.
But the MDC also said that one drawback to the use of Essentials in XP is that Defender could be uninstalled.  I wonder if he could say why there is a drawback and how it rates two?

Come a way since I posted this.  Your article is good, as is the other.  I'm a believer that to eradicate the malware, a program may not be 100% clean. view.  I have used several different anti-virus software on manual mode and do not keep their loading.  Believe in a file temporary dumping; something should be devoted to what are do not want to give more 'smart' time to morph.  Car: MSSE and back it up with Malicious Software Removal Tool, and if ever a drop, run security scanner.  Free, MSSE is unbeatable.  Thank you.

  • What antivirus and malware is most suitable for XP?

OK, I was able to get both of my computers to the top and working again. I always try to understand, what combination of anti-Virus and Malware is most suitable for XP. I have the family and professional edition. Service Pack 2. Thank you

Regardless of which version of Windows you are running, for a
antivirus, I recommend eSet NOD32, if you're ready
to pay for it. If you want a free anti-virus, I recommend one (are not
run several) of the following three:

    Avira AntiVir
    Avast
    Microsoft Security Essentials

You have also the anti-spyware software. I recommend that you download and
(both freeware) to install MalwareBytes AntiMalware and
    SuperAntiSpyware.

Microsoft security essentials is antivirus and antispyware product. no need for a separate anti-spyware software.

Microsoft security essentials is the best option.

  • Satellite L650 - what OS should I choose?

I just bought a spirit L650 h 4 GB of ram, with the installation I'm confused about what OS should I choose 32-bit or 64-bit? What is the difference - all that I want to do is get the new machine operational. Thank you

    Hi roblora,

I recommend you to choose the 64 bit version of Windows 7, because it supports the full 4 GB of RAM and all 32-bit operating systems support only up to 3 GB of RAM.

So, if you n t have some older applications, they require 32-bit, choose the 64-bit version and be happy with it! :)

  • Why am I suddenly get several attack pop ups Windows wanting to buy me their stuff of antivirus/antimalware explore?

I went to pick up a drug on my Google browser and received several alerts to attack Windows. I ran my own Avast and Malwarebytes programs and got rid of some bugs. But now I get Antivirus XP alerts that tell me I'm being attacked. I can't get down them, they reappear. I restarted my security system, and they say that everything is fine. Finally, I checked the Windows security and they simply does not have security, I have to buy it and it is connected to the Windows Explorer and I don't use that, I use FoxFire. In addition, I HAVE my own security programs. But no matter how many times I hit the X button or say NO I don't want the protection of the pop ups continue and the small icons in the menu bar lower will not disappear. How can I get rid of this? I know there were things going on between Windows and Google and Facebook and other things. What is screwing up my computer?

These fake antivirus programs can be difficult to remove... There are security experts forums that can guide you, but if you want to try self help, here is a guide on a reputable site: How to remove XP Security Tool 2010, XP Pro Defender and Vista Security Tool 2010 (uninstall Guide).

Here is another that seems to work for people: Remove XP Antispyware 2012, XP Internet Security 2012 (uninstall Guide).

Perhaps the only drivers will run.

  • I am currently running windows essentials security and avast antivirus and antispyware protection security - is enough? I need Mcafee or Norton or are they the same thing?

What is the best protection virus out there - see my present programs

You should not run two antivirus programs. Microsoft Security Essentials versus Avast Security and uninstall what you don't want. With a good antivirus and the built-in Windows Firewall on XP I wish I had the free version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware installed. Update/run it manually once a week or more. You don't need anything else except a smart user.

  • No matter what color/mode I choose, "Color of the value" box is gray

I just bought Photoshop elements 13 for PC. I had earlier versions of photoshop elements and used without problem. The question that I have is that no matter what color I choose after clicking on 'Color of foreground to the value', watch a shade of gray and also painted in this shade of gray. Not only that on the brush, but another feature that allows me to choose a color. The image on that I work a png and has especially a transparent background. I tried to also use a jpeg and encountered the same problem. Is it just a little box somewhere that verifies that I don't see?

I did not PSEv13, but suggest that you open the Expert tab in the editor and go to the Image menu.

If this is not available, suggest that you repost and I hope that someone else will come to guide you along.

  • What antivirus protection works with firefox 9.0.1?

Webroot, which I have, but is expiring, worked with the last few updates to Firefox.

I need to get a new program and do not know which is compatible with Firefox version 9.0.1

Please let me know as soon as POSSIBLE

    Thank you Dona Leiper

The addon helps you get shortened some features like the virtual keyboard, the reputation of the Web site (the site is trusted content source or phising) etc., but protection doesnot depend on addon since most of the antivirus scan level of traffic independently, so they block it before to attack your pc, so if the component web is activate and your antivirus thenall say Green is good. You are protected. anyway most of the popular antivirus are compatble with little popular Firefox.a
