  You can check with Apple because they created iTunes.  Check the Apple Web site, I found the following FAQ on what you need to do to allow a new device:

  1. Open iTunes
  2. From the Store menu, choose authorize this computer.
  3. When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password, and then click allow.

  Using the Adobe Digital Editions software? If so, I suspect that you meet one of the known activation errors.
