  I am hving problems with the installation of Windows XP Professional. I was not able to get any help yet in this forum to reformat my HARD drive in order to reinstall the operating system. What I want to know with this issue, this is what will happen to my PC after the end of the 30 day trial period and I hv not "active"? I guess I'll hv access to my bios but not the operating system. Will be my boot mgr restored b (it has "disappeared" from the bios when I tried to do the installation of the OS)? The operating system will still try to prevent me from doing a reformatting the drive HARD in preventing me from creating diskettes; I need to do a reformat with Seagate Diskwizard or via a command 'format' floppy worldwide BACK?  Also concerning 'activation '; Pc shud be built entirely (with all its components installed) before activation or can some components b added later... I put, t want to add my Creative Labs audio card and printer until after everthing else has updated drivers, etc.. ???  I read several of the MS solutions on "activating" HT, but none seem to answer these questions.   Hi 70yroldnewbie,

  Thanks for posting. If you're using a genuine Windows, you can activate at any time when activation is up. If it cannot activate online, use the telephone option. The reprocutions of activation would not be some windows features will be locked down. You will always be able to boot, reinstall, backup files and other functions.

  Download the product can be done immediately, however if you bought the subscription, you must wait to activate the product until the payment goes through, and the same goes for a perpetual license product once the payment goes through you will receive your serial number to activate the product.

  What you describe seems exactly the behavior that I see if I remove the standard.js file that is part of a set of Captivate 2 file. Are you sure that you have included this file when you FTP'd the schmear to your server? Might be useful to check double for sure.

  However, your computer probably has the latest UEFI instead of the BIOS, and this causes problems for some with start-up and installation.

  If the live system starts and runs, I'd go for it.

  I'll put the admins the trouble to make their usual warning: "of course, Linux is not supported by Toshiba."

  HP sent me (with no extra charge) a set of 2 CDs, both marked
  "For DISTRIBUTION only with a NEW HP or Compaq PC" (underlining)
  and protected by HP (with portions by Microsoft).

  The 2 CD of this set of CD XP Pro DR/OS were:
  Operating system CD
  Application and Driver Recovery DVD

  Since:
  1. the PC was a PC refurbished, rather than another.
  2. the CD set was sent AFTER my purchase, rather than be distributed with it.
      
  I was always a little uneasy on this subject, but had never asked about it before.

  Is it legal to use these CD with my PC HP refurbished?

  The key words here are "HP refurbished factory."

  That's why since you received the media to "HP" its legal. Recovery media is automatically sent to end users like you to a number of PC makers, with HP being one of many.

  There is no problem, when you turn off all the options in the properties of the local area network (LAN).

  You will not be able to connect to the Internet or use the connection to the Local network.
