Contact your computer for using manufacturer - almost certainly, this means that the drive has failed.

  • Z - index in the Finder error dialog

My computer restarted overnight after what turned out to be a problem of failure of Wake sleep. After the computer restarts and the connection, I was confronted a small box (shown).

My question concerns whether the app is owner of this dialog box, and where he lives in the command Cmd + Tab (its z-index, lack of better term). I think that it belongs to the inventor. However, Cmd + "(Cycle through Windows in the Finder command) you may not get the dialog box (or report (also presented) error window that appears if you press the button report... ).

If you lose the dialog behind another window, the only way you find it again is to press F9, then select it. And selecting does not bring the Finder to the front (you stay in any app you were in when you press F9).

If you miss the dialog box, you will never see it again, especially if you have lots of windows open.

Not a bug, but just a LOST island as weird window in OS X.

I am not sure what is owner of the window, but I suspect it's to SystemUIServer which controls the right side of the menu bar and a few other things.

I saw the same problem for other reasons, and the only way to get to the window is with Mission control that you noted.

  • Is there an advantage to having a backup disk image of Macintosh HD (for MacBook Pro) to ease/speed of recovery after a disk failure rather than using Time Machine to recover?

I'm trying to understand the best way to prepare for the recovery of a failure in the drive for a MacBook Pro.

I do not understand the nuances of the time Machine - I know from personal experience that it is a recovery tool great when your existing drive is intact and you're just trying to restore a file.  But what happens if the drive has a hardware failure and needs to be replaced?

Is there an advantage to take periodic images of Macintosh HD for quick recovery (and then using the incremental backups Time Machine to catch up to the current position).  Or Time Machine may facilitate a recovery in case of failure of the disc just as easily/quickly that will give it to have a separate image backup?

Thanks in advance for your help.

YES!.  If you have a clone boot disk, you can either connect it to a MBP or Exchange it with the internal HDD failed and be back in business quickly.  Time machine, as good as is, can take several hours to restore your system, depending on the amount of data.

For cloning, I recommend Carbon Copy Cloner.  It is not free, but it's worth the price:

    https://Bombich.com/

I use it in conjunction with Time Machine.  (two backups are better than one)

  • Continuous P20W to stop satellite touchpad

First post, really disappointed with the Satellite P20W. Barry is mediocre compared to advertising and the resolution means that some applications are blurred.

Anyway, my biggest annoyance and my concern is that the touchpad intermittently stops working no reason what so ever. another user posted the same failure on the US forums by mistake so never found a resolution. He had tried all the drivers and updated bios etc and even returned the first device in the PC world.

I would like to than this to be sorted and keep the laptop, but at this rate I rather just return it and get a brand like ASUS or HP.

Anyone had this problem and found a solution? Have to start touching the screen is not an acceptable solution.

    Thank you!

I updated the BIOS from 1,2 to 1,5 and for 5 minutes, so far, the mouse has not frozen. Potentially a solution but time will tell. I will update the forum if something changes. I also realize it is the Satellite RADIUS P20W therefore may be in the wrong category. If an admin can move it, it would be great.

  • I HAVE FF 3.6.21 FACT FF4 INSTALLER ON IT AND all THE IMPORT SETTINGS, BOOKMARKS, ETC. AND I WILL RETURN to 3.6.21 IF I don't LIKE 4 CAN

I HAVE FF 3.6.21 is FF4 a brand new installation or does install over the existing installation. It doesn't matter not settings, Favorites, passwords stored, etc., or what I need to add to all of this. Finally, if I don't like FF4 can I easily return to FF3

Firefox 4 is no longer available. If the upgrade, the only version that you can / must go is Firefox version 6.0.1. Firefox 7.0 is scheduled to be released on 27/09/2011 (date is subject to change). After Firefox 4.0, the previous version is "abandoned" as long as the updates of security and stability are concerned and each update replaces the previous version.

Firefox 6 installation will preserve your prerequisites, passwords, bookmarks etc. Can / should make a backup of your personal information for safety; What happens if you have a hard drive failure?

To test the new version 6.0.1 and exit your current Firefox 3.6.21 intact, you can install Firefox Portable. Firefox Portable is not produced by Mozilla (but it is based on the versions of Firefox released) and only is not supported on this site - has its own support forum (see below). Firefox Portable installs in a separate folder on your hard drive and keeps his profile (personal information) separate so that it does not interfere with your current installation of Firefox or privacy settings (Favorites, passwords, etc.). You can also install Firefox Portable on a USB/thumb/pin/jump drive.

  • Tecra A10 - S3501 Power blinks, fan runs full speed.

    Welcome all,

I have a clients Tecra in the shop, and after having received a good description of what was going on at the tme of failure, I still can't understand it. She was watching a flash video when it froze. On reboot, it will not init the LCD, it seems at least partially POST, the CD spins, and all LCD screens blink as usual. Still no init LCD and the power light flashes green, without cause, is not a binary led post code. The fan runs at full speed directly and remained there for the duration. I counted 20 a second flashing with the fan at full speed, before you turn off the power. Any ideas? Customer has no guarantee, so would be good remedy for her. :-) Thank you and have a nice day.

    Hi @nrasupporter ,

Thank you for visiting the Forums HP's Support and welcome. It's a great site for information and questions. I looked in your question about your HP Pavilion Notebook 17 - f122ds and label identification failure MAL3H3-78C7L8-MFPV7F-60U303. This error is failure of Quick Test on drive 1. What this means is that your hard drive has failed.

I recommend the first thing you can do is to back up all your personal files etc as soon as you can.

The laptop suffered a Jolt any? I was wondering if maybe reinstalling the HARD disk would be useful.

Here is a link to check to see if you are in warranty. Page 35 of your manual shows you part numbers. It's the section I would use 778192-005 1 TB hard drive 5400 RPM, available for Windows 8.1 9.5 mm. Page 95 shows you how to remove the HARD drive.

Do not hesitate tocontact us if you need assistance.

    Thank you.

  • Replace HARD drive under warranty?

This request is on your laptop L655 - 17H.

I think my hard drive might start to fail, so I wonder if Toshiba it will replace, even if it is currently in a State of 'working '. I recently have slow downs and several boots failed, but this issue seems to have stabilized itself for now (the hard drive seems to have reconfigured the bad sectors). From my experience, once sector remapping starts to happen, things tend to come down quite quickly from there. Here are the S.M.A.R.T. data off the drive.

Given that the threshold for sectors reassigned on this player is 36 (until he comes in and mark it as a failed disk) and 13 of them have been used in such a life short (less than 300 hours), I think the HARD drive in this book can be considered to be defective.

Would Toshiba share my view and replace the drive under warranty, or what I should expect some sort of catastrophic failure before going through the motions?

As a side note, Toshiba does not seem to be recognizing the serial number of this laptop, which is strange.

Thanks a lot for any input,

    Gareth

What you read here on this forum are of different opinions, but what you need is the real answer, and you can get it from Toshiba service only guys.
They can check your HARD drive and replace it if necessary.

Make a call, explain the situation and hear what they think of this.

What you need to do every day is the backup of data.

  • Issue while the Satellite A100-383 turn off

Everytime I try to turn off my A100-383 of the screen goes black but the blue light on the left side and the small blue led and blue battery light stay lit.

As I do not know if the computer is finally off or still work I based on the the Start button / stop and turn off it. The small blue led and blue battery light stays on

What I do then takes the battery pack to stop lighting and when I restart the laptop I always get the message to advise him of the system that the computer was not properly extinguished.

What can I do? Is this a failure of this model?

    Fernando

    Hello Fernando

It is not easy to say what the problem is here. This behavior has noting to do with the portable model but rather with the configuration of the operating system. I can't imagine that from day one and I think that some process blocks regularly switching OFF.

I can say with certainty that with OS installation, something like this will not happen. What you can do is check all running processes and try to pass some of them manually and then try turning off the laptop. Test a little and also try to delete some applications if any of them may be responsible for this.

Perhaps you need to change the format of rendering the project to ProRes 4444 format, but I have no way of knowing without giving you that more information of what you're trying and that is a failure.

  • Satellite A210 - 1 4 - possible signs of a hard drive failure

    Hello

I use a Toshiba Satellite A210 - 1 4 and think that the hard drive may be showing signs of failure.

    _The symptoms are: _

    * While the Windows 7 boot frequently stops at 'Starting Windows' screen (before the Windows logo appeared) and all HARD drive activity stops meaning a hard reset is necessary to bring him back.

    * When I unplug the power cord on Windows 7, the computer freezes usually with nothing happens and stop any HARD drive activity, once again a hard reset is required to bring back to life.

What are these early signs of HARD drive failure or is there something else wrong?

    Hey Buddy,

For me it doesn t look like the HARD drive malfunction if Windows 7 stops when starting or freezes when you unplug the AC adapter

Have you already tried to reinstall the operating system? It could be the software problem.

If you still want to check your drive HARD uses a disk HARD Drive Fitness Test as a diagnostic tool. It s freeware so you can find it if you search on Google.
