What SSD in Vostro V131?

Hello

just ordered a Vostro V131 via the Dutch website of Dell. Data sheet: i5-2530, 4 gig of RAM, 128 GB SSD. My question: what type/brand of SSD is used? Cannot find anything on the Dell site. My guess is that it is a Samsung PM810. Can anyone confirm that?

Cheers!

Hello

just my Vostro reveived. To my satisfaction, it contains the Samsung PM830 - 6gbps SSD Samsung launched a few months ago. I'm a happy camper!

  • error message when you try to install win 7 on vostro v131

    Hello

I bought and installed an SSD in my Dell Vostro v131 and when I tried to install windows 7 using a USB key, I get the following message and cannot continue with the installation.

A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing.  If you have a driver disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.  Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can remove this step

I created the bootable usb key by following these instructions:

    1. in Windows Vista or Windows 7, open a command prompt and run the following commands one by one:

    (a) Diskpart

    (b) the list disk

You can identify your USB by its size. For example, there is disk 1.

    (c) select disk 1

    Select your USB drive.

    (d) clean

    Erase it.

    (e) create primary partition

    (f) select partition 1

    (g) active

Mark this partition as a boot partition active. This will allow this bootable USB key.

    (h) format fs = ntfs quick

    2. after formatting the Flash DRIVE, copy all the files in the DVD on USB drive

I copied the contents of the DVD of the OS that came with the v131 when I bought it.

    Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1

I installed Win 7 on my desktop the same procedure and I have never seen this message before...

Anyone can shed some light on this problem?

    Thanks in advance!

I saw a post elsewhere that this problem is due to the use of the USB 3.0 port during installation of operating system with a flash drive.

I plugged the USB in the por USB 2.0 and that solved the problem.

    Hope this helps your problem!

The 8 MB bug was fixed last summer with an update of the firmware. However, it would be cheaper and you get a faster player if you just ordered a 7mm M4 Crucial and installed yourself. You can get this drive for about $210 shipped on Amazon. Simply create the recovery DVD discs set before installing the SSD drive and use it to restore the stock OS once the SSD is installed. I would also order the UltraBay HDD adapter so that you can put the stock HARD drive in the UltraBay slot. This is useful to keep weekly backups of the SSD on using the software of rescue & recovery came with the laptop.

  • Problem installing WIN 7 64 bit on a Vostro V131 with SSD

    Hello everyone,

I just got my new Vostro V 131 with i5 2430 M, 4 GB RAM, HD3000 graphics and standard 500 GB HARD drive!

I already had a new OCZ Vertex 3 120 GB SSD and wanted to change it against the bed on the HARD drive.

I put a boot Win 7 64 bit with SP1 on a USB key and started the system. I am able to choose my language setting and then click the button "Start installation". And this is the mess: Setup starts, then then tells me I need to install other drivers. I can't choose anything else but a reader where these drivers. So I downloaded the SATA (AHCI) support drivers for my controller from DELL. They are recodnized by the system as drivers and checked, but I just go back to the window that says Add. the drivers are needed. The SSD is recognized in BIOS and SATA set to AHCI. I was able to format and part with the victory included tools/recovery Partition.

OK, I checked for allmost everything, which could cause such problems. SSD firmeware is updated, set BIOS to update (as mentioned, SSDS is shown correctly). I put the SSD drive on an external HARD drive enclosure, and it has been shown in Windows as a normal USB storage device.

Everything I checked was correct, the SSD is identified and shown correct instead of the Win7 installation menu.

I am at the end of my ideas and hope that one of you can help out me!

    Thank you so far...

I discovered what caused all this trouble ;-)

It was the USB port used! I don't know why, but the USB 3 port starts the installation and then want additional drivers! I swapped the USB 2 port and everything worked fine. ;-)

But thanks for the answer! Also, I don't have a DVD player ;-) If this would not have worked.

  • Portégé R600-102: what SSD for upgrade?

    Hello everyone.

I want to upgrade my SSD the real 128 GB to a bigger: what are the specifications for the new SSD to work? Should what interface have? What physical dimensions?

    Any help will be appreciated.

    TIA,
    Flavio.

    Hello

I guess that the SSD upgrade is the same as the upgrade of the HARD drive.
The laptop support SATA controller, you will need a SATA SSD.
The old drive SSD is 9.5 mm in height the new SSD drive should support the same height.

Given that the SATA controller is not limited to any size, it should be possible to use the SSD drives more of 128 GB but there is still a matter of BIOS support.

Unfortunately, it s unclear to me if the BIOS would support more large SSD drives, but generally this should be supported.

  • Satellite C850-1E7 - what SSD can I use for the upgrade?

    Hi all

I am looking for one SSD hard drive.
Problem is the documentation does not specify whether the system is Sata 3 GB or 6 GB.
I understand that if I buy a 6 GB SSD and the system supports only 3 GB, there is work, but I would rather try to localize "cheaper" 3 Gb SSD if the system supports up to that speed.

Look under the hood, the current HARD drive is a SATA 3 Gb.
    Any of you know?

    Satellite C850-1E7 (serial: YC325575R)

    Thanks for any help.
    See you soon
    Chris

    Hello

You could easily find what SATA controller not Satellite C850-1E7 support.
Different hardware diagnostic tools she will provide you with details.
I recommend you to install and test software like Sisoft SANDRA or Everest Home Edition.
Both will provide the device properties built in Notepad.

But I think that the device supports the SATA II (300Mbit/s) controller.

    > I understand that if I buy a 6 GB SSD and the system supports only 3 GB work remains
Yes, it's okay because the SATA controller is compatible to the bottom

    Hello

I have a R400-103 and you want to replace the current drive with a drive at about 80 to 120 GB solid state.
I've already asked about it in this forum, but I'm still not sure what I need (interface, dimensions and so).

Currently, there is a [MK8007GAH | http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Path=StorageSolutions/1.8-inchHardDiskDrives/MK8007GAH] current hard drive. How SSD can be a good replacement for this?

I think the interface type is Ultra ATA/100 (ZIF, ATA Micro), but I don't know if it's the only thing that's importang

If anyone can help me with additional information about what to look for and maybe a few models that are a good substitute, it would be very useful.

    Thanks for any help.

    Kind regards

    Hello

AFAIK the protégé R400 when equipped with the 80 GB 1.8 IDE HDD (PATA, enhanced IDE ATA-6).
The HARD drive had a height of 8mm.

If you want to upgrade the R400 with a SSD then you should use an SSD that is supported by the IDE and SSD should be 1.8

But I didn't find out about the Toshiba page on compatibility SSD so you'll have to test it on your own hand

Unfortunately C4D Lite does not come with CS6. CS6 options include Boris FX, Zaxworks 3D element and a few others. If you make a life with AE then one of these plugins will allow you to save more than their cost in a few projects. • HP 6541ev what ssd

I have a hp 6541ev and I want to put an ssd. Can what type of ssd I install? 2 SATA or sata 3?

The laptop was with widows Vista preinstalled, but I did with nlite and Windows Xp sp3 with sata cd and I now have windows xp. Can I install the same way the windows xp with the disk ssd?

Ok. SSD SATA1 or SATA2 disks will be the choice for compatibility. He wouldn't have a lot of sense to put in a SD SATA3 when your data transfer disk bandwidth is not capable of more than 1.5 MB/s (actual transfer bandwidth is more in the neighorhood of 300 to 500 MB/s)

The choice will be a question of the use of your budget and ddesired. If you want just the blistering speed, not storage space for dual boot config, then a 60 to 64 GB SSD should be enough.

  • What SSD for XPS 435 MT?

Going to install a second hard drive in my XPS Studio, looking for suggestions:

Apart from adding memory and replacing the card system in a Dell laptop, got lucky with the assistance of excellent books on this site, I don't have much experience on the hardware side.

There are a plethora of SSD drives.  Is it my imagination, or are they all 2.5 "?  Do I need a conversion Kit?  What about a data & power cable?  How about a given car new?

What type of SSD drive would recommend?   Wish it were big enough to use as a disk system/primary.

    Thanks in advance,

    daemoncycler

It is not simple to install an SSD in the 435MT. There are a few 'Catch 22' problems in this regard. Support TRIM is absolutely vital with an SSD. Without it the SSD will eventually become slow or slower than a normal HARD drive. So that the FILLING of the function, the SSD must use an AHCI driver. It will also enable the NCQ, giving you all the speed that your SSD is capable of more SATA 2.0, which is a 3 Gbps max. Another advantage is that it makes your SATA and eSATA ports connectable capable hot, but not necessarily hot capable. (The difference is pluggable hot medium you can add a disk, but not remove it, it is hot you can add or remove a disk with the system running.)

Unfortunately, the Intel X 58 + ICH10 chipset on the mobo to the XPS 435MT isn't complete. Reference Dell limit the abilities of the chipset. While the onboard Intel SATA controllers can support the AHCI, they run in the default IDE mode. The BIOS is also limited at the very least, more like paralyzed, in fact. In the BIOS, under Advanced Chipset Features > SATA Mode, there is only a choice between IDE or IDE RAID being the default value. However, by selecting the mode SATA RAID, AHCI is enabled on all four SATA ports and eSATA. Of course, if you enable RAID after that your operating system is installed, all on your SSD or HARD drive will be lost and you will need to reinstall new OS. Thus, enable RAID in the BIOS of the 435MT before installing the OS on your new SSD.

The problem next you will likely encounter is a failure of your operating system installation. This is described in the available MS 2466753 Knowledge Base Article here:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/2466753

It is a known problem with Windows 7 and Windows 8. Know well on Vista. There are solutions involving the modification of the system registry by creating keys, subkeys and values, as well as workarounds for workarounds depending on what controller uses your SSD. Assuming that at some point you get your system up and running from your SSD, there is another problem that arises when you insert a blank disc in your burner. Your system will probably freeze or crash entirely. It's because of your optical drives also in AHCI drivers when they should use UDMA/IDE. When you select RAID for the SATA Mode in the BIOS, all SATA ports switch to AHCI. Thus, before using your or optical drives, check in the Device Manager to see if you can change the driver for the SATA optical drive controller in the operating system to UDMA/IDE.

  • What SSD for early 2009 imac?

    Hello

I have a question to choose the good ssd for my imac 7y/o (9.1) since early 2009.

I found a few good SSD as the samsung 840 BX100 or critical, but I've also read several times that a ssd sata3 will use sata1 when installed on a sata2.

And that is why it is better to install a sata2 ssd.

IS that still the case today? Given that these messages are coming from 2013.

Or is that I can put in an ssd sata3 and it will run on sata2?

    Kind regards

    Ivo

SATA III drives that use the Sandforce controller will come back to SATA I speed if installed on a computer that uses the Nvidia MCP79 SATA controller. Samsung does not Sandforce. My Macbook in early 2009 with a Samsung 840 (pre Evo, not Pro) negotiates the SSD SATA II speed, connected to the MCP79.  OWC also still sells SATA II disks, I have one in my late 2009 iMac. I chose this drive, even if it was more expensive because OWC insisted that my model should have the Nvidia controller but in reality it has controller Intel 5 series. I didn't take my iMac except more than once.

    Confused? Yes I know...
