  Something I struggle with that is to know which download to my RPi.

  I keep reading that I have to use the hard version of floating point.  That being said, here are the 8 Java SE embedded only version I see with HardFP: ARMv7 Linux - VFP, ABI HardFP, little Endian1

  On my IPD, here is the output of "uname - a".

  Will be the HardFP version on the download page on my PII?   , It seems to be arm6.

  If you have the answer or even refer me to a good site that explains the differences, I would be very grateful.  If this isn't the case, I'll just keep pulling my hair out!  :-)

  I paste a modified version of the conversation and information here for other wandering souls!

  METHOD 1 - Download & deploy, options for compact profiles

  Most of the distributions of Raspberry Pi have been hard float for awhile...  To check, look for the following file:

  / lib/ARM-Linux-gnueabihf

  If it exists, you run hard float.

  Once you have your feet on a generation of hard float, take the latest Java 8 from here:

  http://www.Oracle.com/technetwork/Java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.html

  Catch the first titled 'jdk-8-linux-arm-vfp-hflt.tar. . gz"

  To make the work of compact profile to learn how SE incorporated is used (and compact profiles work) go to the downloads on this page: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/embedded/downloads/java-embedded-java-se-download-359230.html

  and start with this one: ejdk-8-fcs-b132-linux-arm-vfp-hflt-03_mar_2014.tar.gz (ARMv7 Linux - VFP, HardFP ABI, little endian)

  then use jrecreate to reduce it.

  METHOD 2 - use apt - get on the Raspberry Pi, complete "embedded" version of the JDK

  From the Linux command line > sudo apt - get update & sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-jdk

• I have version 3.6.23 on a desktip PC. When I "check for updates", I get a message that there are no updates available. What version should I do and how do I get it?

  If you want Firefox 7, go to http://www.mozilla.org/firefox to get the installation program.

  Normally, the major updates go without a hitch, but just in case, I recommend to backup your Firefox settings to cover you in the rare case that something is not going. See your backup information. (You can copy your profile folder Firefox together somewhere outside the Mozilla folder).

  Download page for Toshiba from your laptop is supported for Vista 32 bit. There you can find all the drivers, tools and utilities designed for Vista.
  There are also the Instructions facilities document. Use it to order good facilities.

  So what you need to do is to get the facilities of Microsoft Vista DVD.

  There is no website to check.

  This Turorial tells you what to do; Simply type the product key.
  All versions of vista are on the good MS Vista DVD.
  The product key determines what is installed.

  Type your product key in the installation.

  	Once more, it's time for the product key and activation talk. Unlike XP and previous offers of Windows that stopped dead if you do not have a product key, it is no longer the case with Vista. You are not required to enter a key at this stage, although there are a few caveats set out on the potential of data loss if you choose not to enter the key. There is also a checkbox to select or not Vista will be automatically activated.
  	If you have chosen not to enter the product key in the previous step, this screen will appear asking you to confirm that you do not want to enter the key. The same warning of potential data loss is present and an additional warning was added that you may need to purchase another edition of Vista if you continue without entering the key. Press [Yes] to return to the screen where the key can be entered. Select [No] will take you to the screen below.
  	Refusing to enter the product key in the previous step brings you here where you need to select the edition of Windows that you purchased. The warning says clearly that if you select a version, you do not have a key, you must either purchase this version or reinstall Vista and select the appropriate version. This screen is a two-step process; Select the appropriate version and certifying then you have selected the version of Vista by using the checkbox. Once these two items are completed, the [next] button is activated.

  have you used a recovery HP or Microsoft Vista DVD disc?

  You may not use any you find which disk to reinstall vista

  Contact HP and ask them what version of vista comes with this model computer

  If you used a microsoft dvd vista to reinstall vista your computer product key you entered during the installation must have installed the correct version of vista

  Contact HP and ask them to send you in vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

  Take a look at my answer, complete instructions.

  Basically speaking, Dell officially supports Windows 2000 and Windows XP on Dell Latitude D610 (and other models of Dx10).

  However it can really run Windows Vista and 7 at least, as long as you max out the RAM (2 GB, 2 x 1 GB, can be purchased at a great price in eBay) and install the drivers, in particular graphics drivers, look in Device Manager and see what drivers are needed manually.

  If you're lucky to have a D610 with ATi graphics card then you can even run Windows 8 and 10 with all drivers available, and I can tell you that it won't be slow dog not unlike a lot of people say, I don't have something similar (a HP Compaq nx8220) in common use. Keep as lean as possible (not bloatwares, anti-virus etc.) system, and it will serve you well.
