When I compact my folders in Outlook Express, I lost most of my emails in my Inbox.

I was able to recover by restoring my computer.

See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2 and also point 3.  You should immediately back up your messages, as in OE they tend to self-destruct.

Compacted Outlook Express and save some of my emails.  Now, I need access to the following, but can not open them.  How to reopen these emails?

    Hi Redtiger1705,

Lost emails immediately after compact preforming?
If so, Outlook Express creates BAK files before compaction. They are copied there as a precaution, in case something goes wrong with the compaction. The following steps should help those rear:

    1) open Outlook Express and go to tools, Options, maintenance, store folder. Copy the entire path to the storage folder, and then click OK.  Close Outlook Express.

    (2) go to the basket and search for all files with the .bak extension.  Restore the most recent .bak files. That he will put in the OE store folder, but still like a BAK file.

    (3) click on start, run and paste the path that you copied in step 1 in the run box, and then press ENTER.

    4) click Tools, Folder Options. In the Folder Options window, click the view tab.
    (5) less advanced, uncheck the "Hide extensions for known file types".
    (6) you should see the two sent a Sent Items.dbx from the file as well as the Items.bak. Rename the Sent Items.DBX to Sentold.dbx and Rename Items.Bak sent to Sent Items.DBX. When you open OE, your messages sent items must be restored.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance!

  • How can I move all the folders in Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail?

Bought a new computer with Windows Home, how can I move the folders of Outlook Express in Windows XP SP3 in Windows Live Mail? Thanks for your help.

Transfer of data from Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail:

    For Messages:

Copy the * ENTIRE * OE message store folder to a flash drive. (Folders.dbx must be included). Place it on the desktop or another location on the computer using WLMail. Open WLMail and: file | Import | Messages | Microsoft Outlook Express 6, and the point where it was saved.

    Location of OE message store:

In OE: Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

    For addresses:

Open the address book in OE and file | Export | Address book (wab) and save it to the desktop. Copy it to a flash drive. Place it on the desktop or another location on the computer using WLMail.

Open the Contacts list in WLMail, (go |) Contacts in the Menu bar) and the file | Import | Address book (wab) Windows and the point where you saved it.

Note: If you use a CD or a DVD instead of a flash drive, after placing on the new machine you must remove the read-only attribute in the properties before you import.

    For the account settings:

In OE: Tools | Accounts, select the account and export it to the desktop. This will be an .iaf file. Copy it to the new computer and WLMail desktop: tools | Accounts and import the settings from the location you saved the.

  • Why not open Outlook Express the text from the first email in any folder rather than see a list full of all messages in the folder

Alos, some of my folder of shave disappered content and everything.

What should I do to fix

You uncheck the preview pane? Why did you switch to a different identity?

For lost messages, the two most common reasons for what you describe any disruption of the compacting process, (never touch anything until it's finished) or bloated folders. More about that below.

Why OE insists on compacting folders when I close it? :

    About file Corruption:
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/IE/community/columns/filecorruption.mspx

    Recovery methods:

If you use XP/SP2 or SP3, and are fully patched, then you should have a backup of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin (or possibly the message store), copied as bak files.

To restore a folder bak on the message store folder, first find the location of the message store.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, the .dbx files are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in the Solution Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.

Close OE and in Windows Explorer, click on the dbx to the file missing or empty file, then drag it to the desktop. It can be deleted later once you have successfully restored the bak file. Minimize the message store.

Open OE and, if the folder is missing, create a folder with the * exact * same name as the bak file you want to restore but without the .bak. For example: If the file is Saved.bak, the new folder should be named saved. Open the new folder, and then close OE. If the folder is there, but just empty, continue to the next step.

First of all, check if there is a bak file already in the message. If there is, and you have removed the dbx file, go ahead and rename it in dbx.

If it is not already in the message, open the trash and do a right-click on the file bak for the folder in question and click on restore. Open the message store up and replace the .bak by .dbx file extension. Close the message store and open OE. Messages must be in the folder.

If messages are restored successfully, you can go ahead and delete the old dbx file that you moved to the desktop.

If you have not then bak copies of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin:

DBXpress run in extract disc Mode is the best chance to recover messages:
    http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/default.aspx

    And see:
    http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#4

A general warning to help avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They finally are damaged. Create your own folders defined by the user for mail storage and move your mail to them. Empty the deleted items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 300 MB, and also empty as is possible to default folders.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

Outlook Express will not let me delete emails that I receive.

Spend most of your messages out of the Inbox, if you can and move the messages you want to record off deleted items, and sent items. Locate the OE message store and then close OE.

Tools | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the Deleted Items.dbx and Sent Items.dbx files and delete them. New files will be created automatically when you open OE.

Compact all folders as described below.

To avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Information on the maximum size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/?kbid=903095

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. • Outlook express. I can't my emails. Help, please

Hello.  When I click send/receive in outlook express the following pop up appears

    Login - pop.tiscali.co.uk
Please enter your user name and password for the following server
    pop.tiscali.co.UK
My username and password are already there so I click ok.
The same message just guard reappear over and over again when I press ok.
    Could someone help me please

    Hello

Very often, this message is transient and disappears after a short period of time, but you can do the following troubleshooting...

First of all you can log into webmail to see your emails? It's probably your webmail login, but it seems that tiscali was purchased by talktalk http://www.talktalk.co.uk/mail/?check_cookie=1

If you can not get connected to the webmail is that you think that your password is incorrect or there is a failure of e-mail to tiscali/talktalk. Anyway, you have to contact tiscali/talktalk to find out what the password should be or get info on when the problem will be fixed.

If you can get connected to the webmail, then try to enter your password in the pop upward. Also, check your user name to ensure that it is correct as it is quite common to accidentally change the username and/or the password in this case pop up.

Outlook Express keeps coming out of the emails in the Outbox even after sending emails to friendsthen continues to send emails over and over again.

This occurs even after the email was deleated from Outbox. So that the people that I send to obtain email 20 - 30 times instead of only once.

Can someone help me solve this problem? I have Microsoft XP Professional on my computer.  Thank you.

A common cause of this is to have your program configured antivirus to analyze the messages, including outgoing mail.  If you can completely uninstall the AV program, and then reinstall it without the analysis feature mail.  If you can't do that, turn off scanning messages.  You will be just as safe.

Try going to tools | Options in OE and set it as default value for it.  Also in Internet Explorer go to tools | Internet Options | Programs and set as default OE it as well, or click the reset web settings button, if it is present.

  • Empty folders in Outlook Express after doing a system recovery.

    Original title: Outlook Express recovery.

After a crash the system and recovery (via Microsoft technician), I can access is no longer my email from Outlook Express files and operation.  I can see all files in the folders, I've had, but they are empty.

Probably what happened is that the records. dbx file has likely corrupted as a result of the accident. Have you tried leaving Outlook Express when the accident occurred? If so, it was probably at that time that Outlook Express has been folders.dbx compaction. Folders.dbx is the folder that contains your folder structure and parameters.

You can try the option import in Outlook Express and see if he will bring back your mail in Outlook Express. You will need to use Browse to point Outlook Express in the folder of the store where the corrupt identity. Because you say you can see the folders you must check and note the path of the file to use with browse during the import. I would try to import files simple and not folders.dbx and all subfolders. If you use select all records it after a successful import be warned, you end up with duplicates that it is extremely difficult to eliminate.

Corruption of folder in Outlook Express has been a constant source of grief for users for years. Steve Cochran, a MSVP, developed a tool to retrieve messages and this works well in most cases. The original tool was DbXtract and Steve created later DbXpress. I used DbXtract, but not of DbXpress. If your attempts to use the file, import fail I suggest you try one of these tools.

  • All of my folders in Outlook Express 6 disappeared.

    original title: Outlook Express

I use Outlook Express 6 and it is true that I had thousands of saved emails and my Inbox and files were a mess.

    Now my files are gone!

I've had all different subfolders put in place in my Inbox, and they are gone.

I am now only show my Inbox, Outbox, sent, deleted, and write files.

My sent folder has all the messages inside dating back where it should be, but with the exception of the most recent 100 emails, everything else is gone.

    My address book remains intact.

I frequently get a pop-up asking me to compress the files, but I always just cancel and try to clean up some of the messages to free up space and get rid of the pop up.  Now, I've lost a lot of relevant messages...

    Please advise!

    And thank you!

This is what happens when you do not allow OE compact folders.   You can try to check the Recycle Bin for the bak files are backups of dbx files OE before compacting (see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2), but if you always cancelled the prompt to compact, then these backups were never made.  Compaction is necessary to clean the unused space in the files and to prevent corruption as what you have experienced.

You can see that various methods of recovery described in point 4 in the link mentioned above, but its likely that your files corrupt and possibly filled with zeros where the messages were, so I think that the only chance of recovery is the Extract function DBXpress disc (www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/).

I would say it might be good idea to make a backup of what you have left.
