  The first thing to check is your theme controls. Go to the control panel and select personalization. When this window opens, go down and select wallpaper. When this window opens go to the lower left corner and make sure that the background that position of the image is set to 'bridge '.   Sorry to hear that you are having problems with black lines on your scans or copies.  I had this problem myself on my 8600 very clean and I was able to get it to be resolved. The question arises in fact from two locations and with a little luck, we can get this problem solved for you. First thing to look at is under the hood of the scanner. Lift the cover on the left of the large scanner glass and scanner, you will see a small strip of glass. Take a glass clear cleaner and a lint cloth and clean the small glass placed as well as the large glass. On the underside of the lid, you will see a white plastic strip. Please clean it as well. IF you have already done these steps please proceed to the next step.

  The printer power cable must be connected to a wall outlet and NOT a power strip/Bar. HP printers have built in surge protector and if you have it plugged into a strip/Bar, the printer will NOT get all the power needed for the proper functioning and it will cause problems with scans or copies, and it might even generate false error messages on the printer screen.

  Please try these steps and if they work, fantastic. But if they are not, please do not hesitate to write me again.

  At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

  When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
