When I start my PC under XP, startup screen never appears.

!. Press the Start button. 2 PC green lights. 3. operating drive (red) lights up. 4. "beep" is heard. 5 keyboard lights are lit. 6 monitor power light begins to blink (in time with the red light indicating the disk activity). 7. no image on the screen!

Also, check using another monitor - same result.

Have tried to use the F8 key immediately after the first beep - just to put the PC in safe mode, hoping it would bring images up - no luck.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, thanks for your answer! But, to answer your questions:

1. no error message - no image on the screen, so I could not see an error message if one appeared.

2. no recent changes have been made, with the exception of the Microsoft security updates.

Can't go to last mode good configuration - don't see getting there.

However, checked the monitor with another computer - same result. I think now that the monitor is at fault and moving it to the shop. Still under warranty (barely).

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll keep them on file if the monitor is not the problem. But, I still don't see how I can make these solutions without a screen to see. I clean terminal video card to make sure they were clean. Thanks again.

  • I have Win7 64 bit ultimate and from time to time when I start PC my card reader drives do not appear in my computer.

I have Win7 64 bit ultimate and from time to time when I start PC my card reader drives do not appear in my computer. Device Manager indicates that they are working correctly. Sometimes my dvd drives disappear. I have to do a system restore to solve this problem. For some reason any Win7 has problems with storage devices. How to stop these dissappearing from my Computer(or not getting a drive letter assigned) storage devices?  It's very frustrating. And, System Restore is not a way to solve this problem, it's just a quick fix. I have three internal hard disks, three hard drives, card reader external drives, USB keys, disks, etc. I need a way to solve this problem when it happens. So far, happened about 9 times in the last six weeks since I installed Win7 64 bit ATU.

There may be an update of the motherboard BIOS to solve the problem.

Otherwise, as your card readers are no doubt attached via USB the usual way to solve this problem would be to uninstall the drives and the USB controllers and devices in the system restore.

You can take it to a repair center and they will return for you. You can also remove the hard drive and connect it to another computer to back up data (recommended for pros).

If you have a high-capacity USB flash drive or external hard drive, you may be able to use the Recovery Manager HP back up files. You must press F11 when the computer is turned on (when you see the HP logo) to enter the Recovery Manager.

There is no guarantee that all or part of your data can be saved from the HARD part is defective drive... Just try to do the first chance you get.

  • Windows 8 shows the other user when I start. How can I disable this?

When I start my computer, I get a screen that says the other user. I have to hit enter where the password should go and then I'll get the back button which will reveal my user account, but the other user account is listed next to it. I don't have an active guest account so I don't know what the other user account and I can't turn it off. I had my computer configured to just start up and go to my Start menu. I'm not sure but I think after an update to windows 8 a few weeks ago he has changed. I took the shot of what it looks like, but I'm not sure how to download on this forum. I looked to see if anyone else has had a similar problem, but I haven't seen any. Anyone know what is happening? Thank you

    Hello

Before reinstalling the operating system, I suggest you update Windows 8. Check out the link to do so:
"How do I restore, refresh or reset your PC.
Read the sections "refresh your PC without affecting your files.
Note: The applications that came with your PC or you installed on Windows Store will be reinstalled, but all the apps you have installed other Web sites and DVD is deleted. Windows puts a list of applications on your desktop after you refresh your PC.

  • When I start the computer, I get a box entitled RUNDLL. Inside of the box, it says: "error loading c:\windows\system32\reranavu.dll." under that, it says "the specified module is not found." ___what is this? How should I do? Thank you.

    Rundll system32

Next time put please the details of your question in the body of the message instead of the subject line.

The reranavu.dll file is malware. Either you have uninstalled the malware program or your antivirus/antispyware program did. In all cases, a reference has been left in the boot file. You can remove the reference by managing your startup.

Because you had a piece of malware, the chances are too high you had others. It would be a good idea to scan. I recommend to download and install MalwareBytes' anti-malware (MBAM) from http://www.malwarebytes.org . The program is free. (There is a paid version, but you don't need to buy it to remove the malware).

Manage startup - be done only when you are sure that the computer is completely free of malware:

(for XP) Start > run > msconfig [Enter]

This will open the System Configuration utility. Look under the Startup tab and find the likely culprit. Uncheck the box next to its name, apply and OK out. You don't need to restart immediately, but next time you do, you will get a dialog box saying that you have used the utility. Just check the box that says in effect, "don't mind to this subject again".

How to stop startup programs unnecessary upward poping when I start my pc

How to stop startup programs unnecessary upward poping when I start my pc

First of all, note that you should be in * all * the programs that start automatically, not only with those who are in the system tray. Not all the programs auto-start manifesting by an icon in the status bar.

On each program, you don't want to automatically start, check its Options to see if she has the choice to not start (make sure that you actually choose to not run, not simply a "don't display the icon" option). Many can easily and better be arrested like that. If this does not work, run MSCONFIG from the start. Run the line and on the Startup tab, uncheck the programs that you do not want to automatically start.

However, if I were you, I wouldn't do this just for the purpose of the minimum number of running programs. Despite what a lot of people tell you, you should be concerned, not with the way * a lot * of these programs you run, but * that *. Some of them can seriously affect the performance, but others have no effect on performance.

Don't stop all programs to run willy-nilly. What you need to do is to determine what each program is that its value is for you and what the performance cost is running all the time. You can try searching the Internet and ask questions about the details here.

Once you have this information, you can make a smart informed decision on what you want to keep and what you want to get rid of.
